There were so many good options to choose from. The shop is small but decked out in pink decor with their cakes on the wall. This definitely looks like a spot that you would get your cakes from. I got the caramel apple cookie and strawberry cupcake. The cupcake is pretty big. They even garnish it with a real strawberry on top. The frosting was more on the solid side but had a smooth texture. Pairing well with the cake. Then I had the caramel apple cookie. It was really sweet with apple filling inside. I was surprised how they had the apple filling inside. The caramel on top was sticky holding the cookie together. I talked with the owner and she is a sweet lady. If you're in the area definitely check out this cake shop.

I remember like it was yesterday, going to the bakery in Canarsie with my grandfather Sunday morning to buy local bread and Italian baked goods. All of the men wore hats, it was something that always stuck with me. This holiday season, I always want to have the same Italian Baked goods in my home. A struffoli ring is a must, every year I buy a extra ring for my high school buddy/barber. This Christmas season, I decided to swing by Circo's Pastry Shop and go a little wild! I see the beautiful storefront and park across the street. Walking inside is managed chaos. I can see various baskets ready to be picked up. It seems like my idea, everyone else has as well. I see the owners son from the videos on the phone taking orders and I'm assuming his mom behind the counter. I ask if its ok to take two struffoli baskets but I spy with my little eye Sfogliatelle. I order a few cannoli as well as a Large Sfogliatelle to go. I jump in my jeep and I'm so excited to bring everything home. Except that Sfogliatelle was calling me. I'm on the Long Island Expressway and I ripped that box open like a fiend! OMG, that Sfogliatelle was soooo good! It was very fresh and I was covered with flaky layers. Firstly, it was very pricey, I know because it was my hubby and I who paid the bill as a gift for the soon to be mommy. To be honest I wouldn't have been upset about the price had the experience not turned out to be unprofessional and chaotic. Starting from the top of the list, my Sister in Law did order a detailed and aesthetically pleasing 2 tier cake. The flavor was supposed to be Tres Leches. It might as well have been zero leches because it was so dry and very disappointing. This was not the worst though. Besides the high price tag and poor quality of taste, the bakery uses HAZARDOUS MATERIALS to achieve the look of their cakes. What do I mean? Well raise your hand if you think putting STYROFOAM dipped in chocolate on an EDIBLE CAKE is smart and safe. I can understand using Styrofoam as a display example but it says a lot about a business when they are limited in their ability to design and create a cake using material that should NEVER be used. AND if they were going to use such, make sure the customer knows not to eat and remove before serving. Well long story made short- it was not told to us that there was an inedible objects on/in the cake other than the stems inside which were noted to be removed on the back of the receipt. So the cake was served to guest and the Styrofoam coated in chocolate to appear like cake pops was consumed by a kid! Who got ill, throwing up afterwards but luckily with a quick trip to urgent care was properly treated and nothing severe came about in the aftermath. WELL I was fuming about this and called the bakery to speak with the manager after that weekend. The manager Julissa made it very difficult to work through a solution. She asked me to come in person to speak about it mind you the bakery is 1 hour away from me. I told her that was out the question because I am not taking off to come into person to have a conversation that can be handled by phone. What would seeing me in person have done to resolve the matter? She then asked me to send an email so she had the complaint in writing which I did. It took almost a week for her to get back to me after I reached out to follow up only for her to notify me that they weren't responsible for the situation and the best they can do is offer me $100 store credit. Can you believe that? No, then how about this. When I told her that was not acceptable and I felt like she can reimburse me half of the order at least, they responded by sending me a screenshot of how Styrofoam is not toxic. Worst part, their screenshot was off a website from MISSOURI. It was obvious that they had to second guess the material they used only once they were faced with a very dangerous scenario that came about with the consumption of their food. Instead of taking accountability and displaying their sincere apologies by offering at least what was requested, they felt sending me their ridiculous google research was sufficient to validate how they weren't wrong. Moral of the story- not everything you see is as glamorous as it looks. Be careful if placing an order with this establishment if you care about your loved ones and/or looking to do business with a professional establishment. You won't get that here. A steep price of $6.50 total so it was a splurge and I would really need to crave one again next time. The outdoor indoor seating is adorable.
