Okay, I admit it, I'm terrified of dentists. In fact, I only went to a dentist after a decade of avoiding them when I cracked my tooth and was in so much pain I was forced to do so. A quick check of the local dentists and I found Dr. Maxson, who promised a 'calm' experience, and, boy, did he deliver! Fast forward 14 years and I'm still an avid patient of Dr. Maxson, even more so now during Covid19. My last checkup, this week, I saw that--in addition to his usual thorough and careful service--he's working hard to ensure that patient safety is No 1. He's the dentist for our entire family and began as my son's first dentist when he was just a child! You can't find a better dentist and I wholeheartedly recommend him. read more

Was going to Dr Maxson's office for about 3 years... it was 3 years too long! Pros: - Front desk staff is really nice and flexible in scheduling you in - The dental assistant that does impressions and assist with procedure is top notch - Has all the equipment for any dental procedure you might need. Cons: - Their hygienist come and go super quick! Dr Maxson had me on a 3month schedule and there was a new hygienist almost every time. A bit of a red flag if you ask me (Side note: Not sure why i was on a 3mo vs 6mo schedule.. when I asked him, he said I got very defensive and told me I had gingivitis and didn't explain any further.. puzzling cause if that's the case why didn't he tell me how we can address it aside from coming in more frequently!). - I had never left a visit without having the hygienist or doctor recommending some kind of dental procedure even if i was only due for a basic cleaning. Often times, i had to push back on if its really necessary and he had always said its necessary, so I would just postpone it until he recommends the next procedure. - As a result of all the procedures, I end up paying a lot out of pocket and heavy on the insurance. They have a sign in the office stating that they will try to max out your insurance.... I guess that's why they do it??? Overall: Dr Maxson seems to have all the right equipment for any dental procedure and he seems very intend on using them. So if you do decide to go here, do some research on his recommendations before committing to them.. or just go another dentist for a second opinion! read more

Dr. Maxson. He saved my teeth! I moved CA from Japan in 2008. I saw his review from some Japanese article and they said he is really good dentist. I am lucky to find him. He fixed my teeth that Japanese dentist couldn't fix. Also I had lots of places need to fix.So he saved my teeth! He is always kind, honest and explain a lot to take care about my teeth. Went for a few years. Office is clean, staff were polite, the good doctor is polite and professional. What I did not like: *Way overpriced dental treatment plans *Everytime I went someone tried to "suggest sell" me something ("We're have a special on tooth whitening this month.") ("There's a new gum treatment product out that you'd be a great candidate for!") All of these treatments were expensive. *There lacked that personal component where I felt I was cared about as their patient (You know, the "Take care, see you in 6 months" or whatever) Just did not feel right! read more

Not happy at all...long story short. I had to wait to have a root canal done because the office wanted to take the friday off. I was given Tylenol and Advil for pain. Obviously that did nothing. The root canal caused nerve damage to my chin. The Dr cut up my mouth pretty had...in four places. I've never had a dentist do this. The dr made excuses. The office canceled my appointment for my final crown. They said I didn't confirm to the reminders. I only received a phone message saying they reserve appointments to people who confirm and who have prepaid so they were canceling my appointment. I had already prepaid and didnt receive a text or email reminder. I never previously signed anything saying I needed to confirm. I took the day off of work for this. They wasted my time and didn't apologize for the misunderstanding. The doc said my final crown had a crack in it but he was going to glue it in anyway. The color was totally off and he put a huge cut into my cheek. I looked at the crown once I got to my car. It wasn't a crack. 1/4th of the crown broke off. I talked to the dentist and he said this sometimes happens. I'm done with this practicr and am seeing a new dentist in two days. Then I'll fight with my insurance company. There's no way he should get paid for such awful work. I'm not a person who complains but I want to share this experience so others don't have to be mistreated. read more

One of the worst expirience of my life! I went with my kids there.... Doctor didn't bother to come to talk to me after he saw my kids. I've been told that "he is now busy with other patient". Rest of the stuff is even worse. The hygienist cut my daughter's gum and the didn't tell me about this accident! My daughter told me about it only at home. They couldn't submit insuarance claim correctly, so insurance reject it and I have to correct all this mess myself. read more

I love the work Dr. Maxson did! My four front crowns are natural looking. I trust his judgement on the work I need. Lionel at the front desk is very personable and helpful. Lori the dental hygienist is wonderful. The four stars is because I have Mondays off and am unable to schedule cleanings on that day. read more

Bad bad bad! Worse dentist ever... I went there to get an extra opinion on some condition I had... Quick piece of adviceDon't judge his competency by the number of "diplomas", "degrees" and other "certificates of completion" are plastered all over the walls of his practice... His opinion was: "we could remove some teeth to fix the problem" Seriously, what the hell kind of advice is that!? Others competent dentists and *REAL* TMJ specialists actually gave us good advice and opinion on how to fix the problem... and that didn't involve mutilation with unnecessary teeth removal... I still can't believe he actually suggested that... and that it was the only suggestion... come on... They also had the nerve to charge my insurance company for what was supposed to be a free consultation! That's what they told us over the phone! I'm never going back there... and whenever someone tells me they are going to the dentist, I make sure they stay clear of this one! Soooo bad... read more

It's so nice to have a Dentist/ Orthodontist/ Oral Surgeon all in one he's done my fillings, braces, and wisdom teeth removal!! Personally, I have greatly enjoyed Dr. Maxson's office. I have been going to his practice for years, and really feel that his staff are very professional and well versed in customer service. They have handled all of my insurance approvals, billing and disputes; also the office manager provides me updates on how to best maximize my insurance while undergoing my treatment plan. The doctor is nothing but nice and has always expressed genuine interest into my life. His assistants and Hygienist are very thorough and attentive to my comfort. I found his practice on the web as it was the only one in the area which provides sedation dentistry. I received a free consultation in which he described how I could also utilize his sedation service while completing my treatment plan. I can not complain and would definitely recommend other people to use Dr. Maxson's. read more

I had a root canal and crown done by this dentist in 2005. Last year I had an infection in it and had to get it fixed by another dentist. I have 3 root canals and the other two have been over 12 years and never had a problem. While Dr. Maxson was working on my tooth in 2005, I had an infection in the tooth, which caused half of my face to swell. His attitude seems to be impatient too. read more

NEW LOCATION since last reviewer posted. Dr. Maxson is now located in San Jose, CA. Dr. Maxson installed 2 crowns. They were too short, and I was advised that if I would purchase veneers at the cost of $1500.00 each, that the short crowns would NOT be a problem. Dr. Maxson refused to adjust the poor bite issue after installing the 2 crowns and left me in pain with a headache developing from the poor bite. I was initially provided an appointment to adjust the bite, then refused the proper service after I was asked about my satisfaction with the crowns. I was honest (I brought impressions of my teeth as proof). Dr. Maxson has X-rays and photos of the teeth before he "fixed" them. We also took photos which I told him we had, there was no excuse for installing crowns that were shorter than the natural teeth, and now they look awful. All to sell $3,000+ in unnecessary cosmetics? Appalling!!! I paid my bill up front, in good faith, and he acted in bad faith by leaving me in pain refusing to fix the bite problem after I told him the truth. His office pushes hard sell tactics and does NOT let up. If you choose to not pay for cosmetics that do nothing to enhance the health of your teeth, you may be very disappointed. I am now forced to seek help elsewhere because I do not trust this dentist to do what is right, now or ever. read more

Came here about 10 years ago for x-rays and consultation. I'm not fond of dentists so I was a little nervous. I didn't like the dentists comment to the hygienist thanking her for taking my x-rays as he knows it couldn't have been easy. That put me of going back! I went to Dr. Maxson after I had cracked a tooth in half. I'm so scared of dentists that I hadn't seen one for years--like a decade! In one year, he got my teeth back in good shape, cavities filled, metal fillings removed, crowns, periodental care, and even some cosmetic fixes. He does sleep dentistry on me, and it makes everything really tolerable. I'm still afraid of dental procedures, but Dr. Maxson makes the experience a LOT less anxious. He is wonderful, the staff is fantastic, and I really appreciate the care they give to me and to my family. He's our regular dentist and we're not changing! read more

I had a horrible experience with this dentist. He couldnt locate my veins and poked me five times before he could find one. For a dentist with that many years of experience! I had my tooth extracted and he was not at all clear with the charges. When I got the statement from my insurance it was pretty shocking. Too pricy. His staff is not trained at all. He had to give too many instructions to them which made me quite nervous. read more

Dr. Maxson is great and his stuff are very nice to patients. My previous dentist told me one of my teeth need to be removed, but Dr. Maxson told me I will treat your teeth like my teeth, I will not remove them if it's not necessary, he saved my teeth, sedation really helped me to calm down and the job is well done. I am deeply disappointed with the Dr. and his staff. I came here after finding out about sedation dentistry. I went to my initial appointment which consisted of a cleaning xrays & a quote for dental implants. I was here for over 2 hours & was even early for my appointment. They are a hard selling type of business. They had me watch videos of all sorts of treatments while I waited to see the dentist which was a waste of my time. When I asked what my overall cost would be as I wanted to use my flex plan for the coming year which is a max of $2500 for the entire year he immediately said the total out of pocket would be $2500. I asked for a quote with the total breakdown & he sent me an email with minimal explanation with a total cost for the entire procedure. I got a second quote & this dentist was the better price so I made the appointment & discussed payment options 2 weeks before the date of the procedure. The day before the procedure I received a call stating that my credit was declined & I told Lionel that I already discussed with him that my was credit was not in good shape & that I did not request to pay on credit & that we agreed that I would pay $625 cash & the balance with my flex plan when it went into effect. He then tells me about an additional $ 2500 that was not quoted to me that I would have to pay. When I stressed that I did not have the funding for this & tried discussing other alternatives to.the procedure he suggested having a bone graph done for $900 even though I wouldn't need it. That's when I had to cancel my appointment that was scheduled 2 weeks in advance & even requested time off of work all for nothing. Now I'm out getting my work done on my teeth that I so desperately need & time off of work for no reason at all. They had no resolution to this issue other than me paying extra money to them which I did not financially plan for. My initial visit to them was 3 months ago so I tried to.plan in advance due to my busy work schedule. read more

Horrible doctor and manager. If I could give him no stars, I would. I went there when Dr. Maxson first bought practice since I'd been seeing Dr. Maeno prior to that. I needed a crown worked on n the back of my mouth. He kept assigning newly hired dentists to work on it, even though it was a very challenging job - they literally tore up the gums and tissues at the back of my mouth and the crown was never done right. It had to be redone about 3 times. They kept saying, "We'll treat you well" which translated to "We will pile on the pain medication so you won't feel the terrible job we are doing to your mouth until the medication wears off and you are out of our office". Unfortunately, since I"d started with them, I kept going back and the entire process dragged out for months! The crown fell out about a year later. They reluctantly fixed it again, but I ended up going to a better dentist two years later to have it redone. I've seen a lot of doctors and dentists over the years and this was by far my worst experience ever. Total waste of money and WORST DENTAL EXPERIENCE EVER. read more

Worst dentist ever!!! My husband's bridgework turned into ( I kid you not ) $14,000 worth of dental work!!!! When we asked for the cost of the absolute essential work to be done, they sent the same copy with the aforementioned amount and the itemized bill was so purposefully jargon-ridden that we could not even tell which section was just the bridgework. You see the word bridge never appeared on the treatment plan. Moreover, he suggested that my husband extract a tooth, get a skin graft, and an implant to better secure the bridge. Even though we emphasized our limited budget. On my treatment plan the dentist added two crowns to replace my perfectly good old ones (for purely cosmetic reasons). These crowns are in the back and show a little silver at the top but other than that are still perfect. Did I say this dentist is a rip-off artist? Also, during my sedation dental he cut my put so much pressure on my lip that I now have a permanent scar. He told my husband that I bit my lip, but it obviously wasn't a bit mark. read more
