My experience was exactly like the experience of Nutty O. from Campbell. I was scheduled for a six-month checkup and cleaning. I was there no longer than ten minutes. Dr. Vu moved the annoying device that supposedly removes plaque. He did nothing with a manual tool. The assistant came in after and "polished and flossed". All of that taking less than ten minutes. Never once did anyone look at my chart, I probably don't have one. I had to ask about x-rays. He said they only do them once a year, but upon leaving the assistant said I could have the x-rays done that day. That took maybe five minutes, and then the doctor came in, literally glanced at the x-rays, and said I was good to go. It was a joke. Do NOT give this dentist another thought. He is very unprofessional and should not be practicing dentistry. read more

Awful!! They refused to perform a cleaning (new patient) without charging us $200 for a panoramic set of x-rays. They refused to accept the x-rays covered under the plan, saying that this was only a six-month set and they require the $200 version. They were quite obnoxious about it. read more

Went in for a Saturday appointment at 10am and I was back home by 11:15am. I was greeted by both Melissa and Bianca when I entered the building. Melissa was happy, friendly, made me feel valued as a customer by promptly assisting me. She took x-rays, started my cleaning, the dentist then filled a few areas on my teeth that I had been brushing too hard. The office had a feel good demeanor about it. It's nice to be a customer in a business that is pleasant to be in. I can tell that everyone there enjoys working with each other and knowing that health professionals like their jobs made for a great experience. I'm a cash paying customer and I was charged a lot less than what I would pay for dental insurance policy. read more

I am a retired person using AARP DeltaCare USA dental insurance. I selected this clinic, John VU DDS as my primary dentist. Went to him for replacement of 6 worn out crowns and received a 30 minutes tirade of why he will not do this work for me, that my insurance rates are too low and that he has to clear certain income per day to maintain his life style and that the rumored government Dental Plan to come, will fail because dentists like him will not participate so that they can maintain the income level they desire. While I appreciate his concerns, his refusal to do the work for an insurance rate HE HAS PREVIOUSLY AGREED TO with the insurance company is completely unacceptable and portrays lack of business skills and poor interaction with patients. He may be an excellent dentist, but I will never find out if he really is since he refused to do the needed work. I recommend you find a better place for your dental work. read more

He has over and over proven himself with me by only recommending needed procedures and then doing a great job. The office staff are friendly and helpful. I just came back from this office and this is my second review online in my entire life! I would have given them zero stars if possible. Going there was a huge waste of time. After the x-ray with their old equipment, the doctor came to see me and without even looking at my teeth said he is not qualified to do crowns, filling, repair, and basically anything! I have gone to see the doctor here multiple times for my teeth cleaning in the past 6-7 years and they have treated me like family since the day one. Not only does he help keep my teeth clean, but with the help of his amazing staff, they helped keep my teeth pearly white!! Not to mention he was the only doctor that was able to find a tooth that had not grown out yet and referred to me to an awesome orthodontist. I was in need of a dentist that also was an oral surgeon so I looked on YELP and saw that Dr. Vu had good reviews and was across the street from my medical doctor so I made the appointment. The office was new and I could see that the help was sparse and not very knowledgeable but thought I would check out the dentist. The extractions went OK but the other work I had done was sub par and the spacing of the crown was poor and still attracts food. My wife needed some crowns right after I went and she had several crowns. On doing the first two crown she started having pain in this both teeth. She went to see him and he said wait two week and gave her pain meds. Even after this she was still in pain and found out he had not killed the nerve in the tooth. She went back and he DRILLED through the new both new crowns and did the root canals that should have been done at the start! After one year we had moved out of state and she went to a new local dentist to get her teeth cleaned. On doing that both crowns came off. The dentist was shocked and had to rework the teeth and fill the holes in the crowns. This was a terrible and expensive process to have to go through in the space of one year! Now three years later another crown that he did just broke in half! This guy is a butcher and should not be a practicing dentist. My recommendation is to stay away!!!! read more

I purchased a $35 Groupon for cleaning, x-ray and dental exam. Without even seeing into my mouth, he warned me saying that the cleaning included just x-ray and polishing. For a better cleaning I had to add more money, like a car cleaning. If you want a cleaner car, you need to pay more, he said. He also warned me that the coupon was not valid for periodontal disease. He didn't even look into my mouth! After finally seeing into my mouth he confirmed his prediction. I needed a deep cleaning. I could do the deep cleaning directly there (he started advertising himself, offering me a discount) and he also referred a friend as specialist. The assistant gave me a proposed treatment plan also for removing the wisdom teeth. At the end, he said that I could ask Groupon the refund because of the periodontal disease. This is a great dental place and has an excellent dentist. I've been visiting Dr. Vu since he first opened his office in Milpitas, CA. The office is always clean and comfortable. Dr. Vu is really nice and easy to work with. He is candid and honestly practicing Dentistry. His advices on my teeth were right on and only did what were necessary on my teeth. There are some bad dentists out there who are only out to make a profit and advises you falsely or accidentally, but not DR. Vu. That's why, I've been his patient for years! read more

I am super scared of dentists...sometimes it's like taking your car to the shop. I'm always afraid they are going to tell me to get this or that and it ends up costing me a ton when all I wanted an oil change. I've always gone to dentists and they try to charge me for random things and I'm not even sure if I need it. Dr Vu however was great. He just told me what I needed and fixed what I needed. I had some small cavities and other dentists wanted to fill them but he said they were fine to just observe. I was happy about that! Who wants to get the drill if they don't have to! When I first walked into his office, I thought his office was lovely, comfortable, organized, and well-kept. My visits with Dr. Vu have all been pleasant. He was nice and very down-to-earth during our conversations. He didn't judge if I had not had a cleaning in a while either since this economy has been rough sometimes. He always gave options for treatments and gave good consultations. He's also really good and careful with his hands during treatments. Extremely unimpressed with this dental office, I will not be back. The power was out when I showed up which seemed like a completely normal occurrence since none of the staff seemed concerned. Very unprofessional staff talking loudly about losing a patient's chart, missing dental supplies, dirty equipment, and where they all went out to get drunk last night. DURING the cleaning with all the equipment in my mouth the power went out again! Again no apologies or surprise from the staff, that's just what you should expect I guess. read more

The worst. I went here because my last dentist stopped accepting my lousy insurance. I have never had a quicker, more substandard exam and cleaning in my life. Ignore the other good ratings this guy has. It seems if you are not a big ticket patient you get the minimum care you can be given so some insurance can be billed. How bad was it? Read the letter I sent to my insurance company below... I would like to go on record as saying John Vu, DDS at 1399 Winchester Blvd #120, San Jose CA should be never be allowed to see DeltaCare patients. My prior dentist (in fact my last two dentists) have stopped accepting DeltaCare so I moved to Dr Vu's office. I have never had a worse job done. The exam and cleaning did not even come close to the standard that any prior dentist in my 38 years has ever set. If there is a minimum standard for what is necessary for an exam and cleaning Dr. Vu does not meet it. He looks in my mouth, quickly runs an electric cleaning tool around the perimeter of my teeth and leaves. Not once does he even consider scraping plaque from my teeth. Never does he mention or seem to notice the mouth full of fillings I have. Forget the idea that he would mention I grind my teeth and have signs of wearing. Every other dentist manages to notice it quite obviously and always is talking abut night guards. I doubt he even looked at the stack of x-rays he took. The only thing he wanted to look at and mentioned was my insurance and what it is covering. From listening to my dentists over the years I have learned about the status of my teeth and know what to expect at a minimum from an exam and cleaning. This was literally the quickest and most careless cleaning ever. It seems Dr. Vu's only concern was what can he bill my insurance for and doing just enough to try and justify billing it. Shoot some x-rays and get done as quickly as possible, that seems to be the approach to dental care for new patients. My lack of interest in any additional cosmetic work made me otherwise worthless. Certainly not of enough value to warrant a thorough exam and cleaning. It leaves me thinking Dr. Vu is just preying on uneducated patients who have enough insurance or lack of knowledge that he can push more expensive cosmetic procedures. All dentists perform these and it is understandably a valuable part of their practice but good dentists never short change basic dental care to focus only on more profitable patients and procedures. Dr. Vu's dental assistant is just as bad if not worse. She was responsible for performing a polishing and then flossing. It seems she is afraid of putting her hands in patient's mouth for more than a second at a time. The polishing was haphazard at best, and that is being generous with my description. As for the flossing, why does she even bother? She pushes the floss so it breaks through between the teeth and immediately pulls it back out. If it is possible for floss to not touch the side of your teeth, she found a way to make it happen. I wanted to take the floss from her and show her that good dental care requires you use the floss to try and remove plaque and food particles from the sides of the teeth and around the gums. Absolutely incompetent is the word to describe her. Overall this office is a joke. DeltaCare patients are receiving substandard care and DeltaCare is being taken for a financial ride by this, and I use the word very loosely, dentist. Do yourselves and patients a favor and drop this dentist. My mouth feels dirtier from having been in their office and having them touch me. I just called and made an appointment with my old dentist that I will have to pay full out of pocket retail pricing for but it is worth it to have a competent job done. read more

Winchester Dental Place advertises that are accepting new patients, in my initial call I was told by the receptionist, that I needed to be a patient on their roaster before they could schedule an appointment. I called Delta Dental and requested that I be added to the Winchester Dental roaster. When I called Winchester Dental 30 minutes later I was told the receptionist who handles this insurance was on vacation and I would have to call back unless I wanted to be a cash patient. I questioned this response, I was then told he was not accepting new patients. After this phone call I learned it was Dr. Vu who I was speaking to, he was openly distainful and rude. It was clear this was due to my insurance, in my initail call with the receptionist she had advised me that it was best if I had another type of insurance or paid cash. Very unprofessional to treat people with hostility and complete lack of basic courtesy. Beware of calling for an appointment, during the initial call they asked many questions, including where I worked ,( I am a retired district manager) she was very put off when I told her I did not work, as my husban works. I was very impressed with Dr. Vu's denistry when doing research on the web about his practice. I especially loved their long hours and all of the extra offers that he awarded his patients, such as the lifetime of free teeth whitening and free electric toothbrush to new patients. When I called to become a new patient, I was informed that I would have to wait to the beginning of the next month for my first visit, because I have an HMO insurance plan. My name was not on their "list" for that month, so after calling to my insurance and giving them the name of Dr. Vu's dentistry, my insurance informed me that my name would be on their list for the following month. When talking to the receptionist at Dr. Vu's dentistry, I was telling her how excited I was about being a new patient there and that their hours are perfect for my hectic schedule. She let me know that they are happy to have me as a new patient. A couple weeks passed and I called back to finally make my appointment for the beginning of the next month. The receptionist asked me what type of insurance I had and after telling her I had an HMO insurance plan, she informed me that people with my type of insurance are only seen on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm. This completely defeated the purpose of me switching dentists. I told her I would love to have been informed of that when I initially called to talk to them about potentially having Dr. Vu as my new dentist and when they assured me that they did indeed accept my insurance there. I asked her was their a reason for the time frame they allot for HMO patients, and she answered that it is because the Dentist that handles HMO patients is only there between those hours. I was shocked, so I said wait, you're telling me that Dr. Vu isn't even going to be the dentist that will be working on me? And she said yes, that is correct. I was asked her are any of the other amenities that you guys offer denied to HMO patients, like the lifetime teeth whitening and free electric toothbush? And she again told me, yes, that is correct. I was dumbfounded by this point. I feel like they have been completely dishonest and continue to show false advertisement, and not sure if this is going too far, but I feel like it's a bit of discrimination. If at least you are not going to let everyone know on your website that all of the things that you offer are not awarded to all of your patients, at least inform us when we call asking about becoming a new patient., especially if I am letting you know what type of insurance that I have up front. This is ridiculous, now I have to shop around for a new dentist again. I am sure Dr. Vu might be a good dentist, but his dentistry as a whole is horrible. read more

Very quick, professional, attentive and honest service. This is the second dentist I've seen since moving back to the bay area. my previous dentist (Dr. Andrew Fong) diagnosed me with 5 cavities and showed me the black stains spots on my teeth. the exam was done using an oral camera, no xray. (it was a groupon deal) i take good care of my teeth and was slightly suspicious that i had 5 cavities. So i decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Vu. The rest of my family goes here. I paid for the xray, cleaning. The diagnosis was that i needed my wisdom tooth extracted (no surprise) and that I had no cavities. I asked about the dark spots on my teeth. Dr. Vu explained those were just stains that could be scratched out and were not cavities. Cavities are soft and when he pressed the dental pick on the tooth, it was hard. He scratched out those stains with a dental pick in less than 5 seconds. I asked Dr. Vu about my previous diagnosis of 5 cavities from a different dentist. Dr. Vu said that different dentists have different opinions and that some are more aggressive in their treatment but that I definitely did not have any cavities. I am not sure if Dr. Andrew Fong was trying to scam me or if it was overly aggressive preventative treatment. Either way, Dr. Vu's diagnosis included a panoramic xray that PROVED I had no cavities. Overall, I am very happy to find a dentist who practices with integrity and has my well being in mind. I will be recommending Dr. Vu to my friends. read more

Dr. Vu and the staff here are awesome and affordable. Before coming here I hadn't been to the dentist in over 10 years mainly because nothing was wrong with my teeth and I also don't like going to the doctors. The staff here definitely changed my mind though. They are all super laid back, joke around with each other and overall seem to really enjoy what they do. Melissa and Bianca at the front desk make you feel right at home as soon as you step into the office. Oh and they hooked me up with a free whitening for being a new patient! Absolutely the best BEST dentist I have ever gone to! Very flexible scheduling, I couldn't make it to my fist appointment and I had no problem re-scheduling. Open Saturdays so it's super convenient. Dr. Was amazing. I "had" 2 cavities according to my past dentist. And Dr confirmed that was not true. I've been in search for a dentist for quite awhile now. Dr. Vu was referred to me by a friend and he is one of the best. The staff is amazingly friendly and the office is extremely tidy. He is so kind and so easy to deal with.
