Nestled back behind the front road businesses is a super garden center. I was able to find everything I was looking for .. trees and flower. I even found what I swear were the last dwarf Meyer lemon trees. The staff was helpful and nice. The prices were very competitive. read more

They have a good selection of plants and nice prices. You can pay for plants and they will hold them for your gardener to pick them up. However, I won't shop there. Simply put the owner is very full of himself, and takes business questions personally. Rather than accept his own coupon, he would rather not do business with you at all and tell you to your face to never come back. i guess he must be busy to turn away customers like that. It was not a small order, being well over $1000 in flowers and trees. The hired help is variable in knowledge and ability. They list their hours as being open until 6:00, but they shut down the cash register at 5:30 and basically chase you out after that. Not welcoming or friendly at all. If you have to have plants, and are willing to put up with people who basically don't care about you as a customer and are more interested in doing things their way, with their pride, and with their (self) hurt feelings than they are with providing you with good customer service, then I guess you could go there. I won't. Not after the way I was treated. I wouldn't want anyone I know or like to go there either. Sometimes it is not about the price, it is the principle. They seem to want to stand on their principle that it is OK to treat their customer with less respect than the dirt they sell, then chase you and your money away when you challenge them on their actions. So I will stand on my principle: I deserve respect as a customer just as they do as a vendor. If they do not want to be honest and respectful, they do not deserve my business, and I would suggest they do not deserve yours. read more

This place is a ripoff. STAY AWAY. Take your business to a couple of blocks farther to Rainbow Gardens nursery, or better yet to somewhere that is not privately owned by a nasty jerk. The staff to include the owner are useless and very rude. Helping customers is a chore for them. I went there at 5:40, so it was 20 minutes from closing, and the old man was already closing the register and was not interested in helping me, just in a hurry to close. He lost over $200 of my business. STAY AWAY and go to the other area nurseries. read more

I visit here frequently as my second go-to nursery, and I always find that the selection varies, which is part of the charm. I've discovered some truly unique, well-established hybrid begonias, a great range of succulents, and ready-to-go bonsais. They also boast one of the largest selections of Texas native plants, from Turk's Cap to Rock Roses, which can be hard to find at the busier nurseries where plants get scooped up quickly. In addition to plants, they offer a nice selection of glazed pots in various sizes, as well as wind chimes and bird feeders. The only downside is the parking situation--it's a bit tight, and getting out can be tricky. To avoid the hassle, I usually use the car wash entrance/exit when leaving. read more

First off The Garden Center has some great people working there, my wife and I went looking for plants for the yard and the employees were not only very helpful but also knowledgeable. We would inquire about certain plants and trees and they would inquire on what we were wanting and where we would be planting them at. Wayne and Faith helped us and helped us make some great choices of both plants and trees. We have bought approximately 10 trees ranging from Loquat, blood orange, 2 avocado trees, red grapefruit and an apple tree also got us a pomegranate tree. Picked up some shade trees like a pistache, maple and a sycamore. We also had them delivered and planted for us by The Garden Center. They take time to explain how to care for the plants and trees, providing you with a care sheet on how to keep them alive and healthy (which is important as I can have a rock die on me, don't have a green thumb). Great value and a great selection. I wholeheartedly recommend The Garden Center. I've been to other places to buy plants and trees but I think I've found my preferred place now. The others will sell you some plants and send you in your way, but here at The Garden Center they invest back into you to insure that you get the best service possible. read more

Second time visiting now and both have been pretty good experiences. Came the first time to find a fig tree for a birthday gift for my grandmotherwho's always wanted one. The selections I found at big box retailers and online were not great. Upon arrival I found a good selection of different fig trees, all labeled at a great price. Someone came by to help me make the right decision for what I was looking for. The tree is still very much alive and we're hoping to see fruit this season. There were a few fruit buds already on there when I bought it, but it was also close to winter time so it was getting to go dormant soon. Got some great advice on what was needed to take care of it when paying. This led me to want to come back for my mother-in-law's mother's day gift today. I found a variety of roses in my price range that I wanted to spend. 2 yellow rose bushes that seemed to be healthy and budding for $29.99/ea. When I went to the register the price came up about $20+ more than I expected. Luckily I caught it because it was a mistake and she realized it took and was able to correct the price, so maybe just double check if something seems off. Everything is pretty well laid out and labeled. While I probably could have gotten what I was looking for today a little cheaper at a place like home Depot or Walmart, I'd rather the money spent go to a local establishment with quality plants. Told my hubby I wanted a blackberry and raspberry bush for mother's day... I suggested he come here :) read more

My wife and I wanted to get some winter vegetables for our garden and decided to swing by The Garden Center. It's a very large nursery and is very nice. We walked through a bit before checking out what veggies they had for sale. We were a little surprised that there was a pretty small selection, however the employees let us know that they would get in new shipments of veggies on Wednesday. We decided to go ahead and grab some broccoli and Brussels sprouts. The plants look very healthy and we'll definitely head back in a few days to check out the new arrivals! read more

I was going to give the garden center a 5 star until I walked up to the register... Let me tell you the story. I am a rookie gardener. I have about 20 plants on my balcony including a key lime tree. I have been wanting a fig tree for quite some time and finally decided to get one. I got a 20% off coupon from the garden center so I decided to check them out. Upon arrival, I was surprised how big the nursery is and how pretty the plants are. It looks like a small botanical garden with fountains, decors, seatings, etc. I spent quite some time just to look at the lovely flowers and trees. Several staff approached me offering help so I felt very welcomed. The price tag at the garden center is much higher than lowes and home depot. But they were having a tree sale for 30% off all trees. I could get a fig tree at lowes for $20 but with the 30% sale I could get a fig tree at the garden center for the same price. The fig tree here is healthier and already has fruits on it. I finally asked one of the guys to help me pick a fig tree. He was very patient and helpful. He helped me pick a very health tree, carried the tree for me and offered me lots of gardening tips. Since I couldn't combine the sale with my coupon I decided to pick a jasmine to get the 20% off. I told the guy i would be OK to be on my own. He then left for lunch. After i finally picked the jasime, I walked up to the register to pay. I asked the white girl at the register if she could help carry the tree. She reluctantly walked to look at the tree then said to me "It is not heavy. Just carry it yourself!" Wow, i was speechless b/c that was not the kind of customer service I was expecting. I mean i supported your business but you wouldn't even carry the plants for me?! At that moment, I almost walked out the door. But I really wanted the plants I picked out so I decided to pay then left. The interaction with the white girl at the register left a bad taste in my mouth the entire time I was driving home despite all the positive impressions I had previously. After this experience, I will probably never return to this business again. I know I should support small business more instead of shopping at the big box store. But at lowes I have one year warrantee for trees and perennials. I can get plants for a much cheaper price. AND the staff at lowes NEVER asked me to carry plants by myself!! Oh lowes, how I miss you. Several weeks ago, I bought 2 crepe myrtles from The Garden Center specifically because the tag said they were drought tolerant. After about a week, I noticed the shrubs were not doing well and tried to increase the watering to every other day to see if they would come back. Today, I took them back to the store and was told they needed to be watered twice a day which is not drought tolerant. I was never given any instructions or notice about this and defeats the purpose of why I bought them. I was also told very rudely that they don't refund dead plants. Yet when I brought the shrub in to the store, they tried to charge me for them again so obviously they have no issues trying to sell dead plants. Will NEVER use this place again! I was here last week and waited at the register for over 10 minutes and nobody ever came. I looked around the place and couldn't find anybody. Two other customers behind me eventually walked off leaving their merchandise where they stood. I came by this morning to again try and purchase what I wanted. I was first at the register with plants in hand. The lady at the register was on the phone (I know she saw me) and she turned around and walked off and went into the office! I have recently gotten into the hobby of gardening. I have a very large yard that I am planning to zero scape and cut back on the grass areas. So I recently purchased many plants and products and have researched on what to do and what not to do. I have purchased about $500 on plants and materials and plan to do so in the upcoming years because I have found that this is something that I enjoy. But I will never do business with the Garden Center from this point on. I purchased about five jasmine plants a pomegranate tree some honey suckle and a handful of perennials. I needed to return two of the Jasmine plants because I could not find a place to plant them. I did not have a receipt so they would not return them. I said I would take store credit, but they still told me no. I have photos of the plants to show that they are still in good condition. Let me ask you this Mr Harrell, is it better to exchange two $8 plants to keep a customer who is likely to spend $500 a year on plants and products. Or is it better to tell him no and lose his business all together? In the past, a dialogue would ensue to discuss needs such as "Do you have something in mind?" and we would go from there. Not this time. If you read my comments, he was condescending from the start & I explained how his dialogue was snarky.It was a dialogue btw or a condescending lecture. It wasn't a sentence or two. He didn't even say, "well, do you have something in mind? Are you looking more toward foliage or cactus?". Instead he goes off on me. And the added point about the acres is lecturing me... not explaining to me what is out there because really, I have two small pots for my porch (which I told him). You really think I am going to find something for my porch in the back section where the huge trees are? Or where the huge cacti are? Please! You all are too organized for that. So stating the # of acres was irrelevant to the porch clay pots I have. That was part of him being snarky. It is all good when you defend employees but his attitude was inexcusable. And my back pain was only to explain why I didn't stay there to address his behavior. Any other day, I would have gladly pointed out his behavior and asked for someone else to help. read more

Came in on a Tues afternoon 2:30-ish, and walked into a completely empty nursery, well, unless you count the 6 employees potting plants and looking at the computer. In the 1/2 hour my husband and I milled around, not one employee acknowledged us, much less asked if we needed help. We were looking for spaghum moss for some Staghorn ferns, as well as some mulch. They were having a 40% off anything that had roots, and I was tempted! We hunted down one woman staring at the computer and she tried to pawn us off on someone else (walked away from me--without excusing herself--and went to another employee and pointed to me). She returned to her screen as I tried to hunt down what I'd come for. No one else came up to us, so my husband went back to her and said, my wife needs help". She walked over to me and gave extremely vague responses, ending with "well, maybe you should go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels to get what you need". I walked over to the bagged mulch, told my husband we needed 5 bags, he paid for them & we left, never to return to this poorly managed, poorly serviced garden center. And no "sale" is ever greater than being treated with utmost rudeness. read more

Shady. Bought a tree including delivery and installation. The specimen that arrived had a severely bent trunk, but I didn't worry since The Garden Center offered a 1 yr warranty on trees it installs. The guy didn't dig a sufficiently deep hole and 3 months later the tree fell over. I replanted and staked it properly. 2 months later the deformed trunk split so badly the tree wouldn't recover. Called the office and asked if they could send someone out to examine, but was told not necessary and I would be contacted when a replacement was in stock. Called again a month later and same story. Called a month after that and was told they decided NOT to replace the tree afterall, but the reasoning was hazy. No kidding. After some wrangling, I finally got a refund to my credit card, but the story gets worse. Stopped in the other day to buy some shrubs I couldn't find anywhere else. The manager asked if I was the customer who had the tree trouble last year and I said yes. Then I was told to leave the store because I had been blacklisted. Wow. Simply wow. Shop anywhere else and certainly don't believe any promises from this place. read more

Spend 182.80 mainly on wildling geraniums. Lawson, manager on duty refused a requested discount on an ivy that was apparently neglected. I'd be embarrassed to sell it at regular price...lots of yellowed dried leaves. Unfortunately, the last one there and I had already processed the other plants or I would've walked away. read more

I've purchased many beautiful plants and two trees here over the last 5 years and am finally getting around to writing a review. The Garden Center, while not as big as Rainbow Gardens, offers a great in-store experience. Their suggestions have always been helpful, and I'm quite pleased with the selection of plants and trees. Plus, it's so conveniently located. The three stars I'm awarding them in this review are for 1) staff knowledge and helpfulness 2) general ambiance 3) the adorably yet perpetually angry cat that roams the premises. However, after coming on Yelp and reading the snarky, judgmental replies of the owner to the patrons who unfortunately didn't have a good experience, I can confidently say I will never shop here again. Such a shame - I really liked this place before I realized the owner was so unkind. read more

Today they had an awesome live band, puppy photos, food, a farmer's market, a rose seminar & of course plenty of beautiful greenery. After two visits, I can say that there is nothing special here. It's a garden center. Prices seem pretty high. Staff are friendly and somewhat helpful. We were looking for a specific product, of which they had only 1 in stock. The cashier was unsure if they could order the product and told us the manager would call us in a few days. That call never came. When I called the manager, she quickly researched the product and informed me that should could not order said product. We found a similar product at a competing shop whose owner was more than happy to order what we wanted, at a lower price. I'd much prefer to patronize local businesses, but in this case I am unable to do so. Glad to see that other reviewers had a better experience. read more

Have purchased 4 trees at different times.. they grow then die, all 4 have died. Hmm

I recently purchased 5 sage bushes from here, upon checking my mail a few days later I noticed that I received a coupon for 20% off that I didn't get a chance to use. I called the next morning to see if they would be willing to credit me for the coupon since I had just purchased everything and I still had my receipt. The girl I spoke to originally told me yes, just come by and they would credit me back for the coupon, but when we discussed it further another employee came up and told her no that a lot of people have called and the general manager has already told them no. I asked her to leave a note for him to call me back so I could speak with him about it, but I received no call back. I thought my bad experience was a one off but judging by his rude responses on here I know mine wasn't a coincidence. Customer service is free, and it is blatantly obvious that he does not care about customer service, only his wallet. I will never be shopping here again, and will be telling everyone I know about the terrible service and lack of accountability that I received. read more

I was at the Garden Center yesterday.The experience was very bad,We have been loyal customers for many years and it is very sad to see how far this business has declined since the previous owners left.Gone is the vast knowledge they possessed and more important the friendly customer service.A complete change is now exhibited by the current staff.The girl that works the front area is not very friendly and seems to have a limited ability to answer any questions.The older gentleman also was not very friendly and was unable to answer many product questions. Our experiences have been the complete opposite as to what we experience when we visit Rainbow Gardens.Their staff is extremely knowledgeable and more important very customer service oriented.What a difference .I will make sure that our friends know of our experiences at The Garden Center and recommend that when they have any Garden needs that they visit Rainbows Gardens.I don't usually write bad reviews but I feel compelled to in this case.I would rate my visits as a O if I could. I have been visiting this garden center for about 4 years. After building a house, I have a multi year plan to build the landscaping up slowly. I have purchased a lot of trees (1 died shortly after) and many plants from them but recently had a very souring experience. I was planning to buy root stimulator and fertilizer, so I made a quick pit stop there. Another customer stopped me in the parking lot, she was frustrated and said they closed the doors on her. It was only 5:50 so I assumed they closed all but one door, I walked all the way around and sure enough it was all closed. Then a young girl comes over and says they closed early today. Seemed strange but okay, I walked back to the car, load the kiddos in and then get on my phone to see if Rainbow Gardens is open. A guy comes up to my car start motioning for me to leave, I roll my window down and he says "we re closed ! " So I asked him why they closed early, and he said we close at 6. To which I responded it's 6:02 right now and I have been here for 15 minutes. (Bear in mind another employee already told me they closed early. ) then he screams: the registers and everything shut down at 6. Good night ! Obviously I continued to drive away knowing it was my last time ever going there again. A personal emergency, power being out or even business being slow would all have been poor but acceptable reasons to close, but to straight up lie about the time and turn 2 customers away in the last 20 minutes of the work day is ridiculous. I want to support small local businesses and I am usually willing to pay a little more to do it, but this place lost at least 2 customers today. read more

I see all the comments about the The Garden Center my experience was actually good. 8 years ago my husband and I bought 4 oak trees and paid them to have them planted, they are actually doing very well; big. We will be visiting them this week looking for two more oak trees for our son's new home. I sure hope they are still helpful and courteous as they were then, maybe now they are new managers? read more
