I was out at Bear mountain with my friends, and they wanted to go to Cold Spring to check out the antique shops. I've never been over there before, but noticed an awesome sign outside of the Pub that made me laugh, and mentioned I was hungry, so thankfully were were able to go in. We went in and had a seat, and weren't sure if we should order from the bar or at the table, so my friend Rachel went to the bar to ask. The waitress was very friendly and said she would help us. We all got burgers, and the waitress noticed mine didn't have the tomato jam on it (without me even realizing), so without missing a beat she went back to have it put on. Talk about attentive! I don't know what some of the other reviewers are talking about, or maybe I had a different cook but the burger was one of the tastiest, juiciest ones that I have ever had. Beautiful bar, yummy food, not a long wait for it, either and friendly service to boot. If I lived closer I would definitely go here often. read more

Came here after a hike and I couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. The burgers were great, and Doug was the BEST! We asked where we could find some pie and he went across the street and personally got us a slice of apple pie from another place that was just about closed! He even heated it up for us! Wandering down Main Street in Cold Spring looking for a place to eat. We stepped into Doug's and knew as soon as we walked in we made a good call. This place is old school. Dark woodwork. Tin ceiling. A great Bourbon selection and College BBall on the TV. I had the Fun Guy burger. Burger with Swiss and mushrooms (see what they did there?) and a Black and Tan. The food was great. We sat at the bar to eat. The bartender was cool and and was more than accommodating. He kept checking to see if we needed anything which was impressive because he was a one man show. Bartender and server. Never had to wait for a drink. If you want some good comfort food in Cold Spring, go to Doug's. read more

However this trip we were asked to move from our seats at the bar so a patron (who we already asked if they were sitting there!!) could have a seat. The bartender asked us to leave. We stopped in for a late lunch and had some of the largest and best burgers ever. They offer a variety of burgers. I had the bleu, swine and tears and my husband had the funny guy. Don't go if you are not from the town because they do not seem to like out of town people. You might get away if it's not on the weekend when they do not assume you are city folks, otherwise they will rudely reject you at the entrance and say they are full. read more

Been hiking? Come here after. I first heard about this place on my second hike in cold spring. The trail guide offering water at the trail head recommended it to my friend and I. After my fourth hike, I finally came. Boy is it worth it! Great spot for beers, loads of big juicy burgers, and close to the station if you are heading back to NYC. Doug is hilarious and friendly. I would prefer a burger without an English muffin, but the fries were perfect and more than made up for it. Plus, it was a huge helping. It's a lot more than "pretty good." 5 stars. read more

Bartender was really cool. The owner Doug is a hypocritical buffoon. After a long hike at the local mountain I was a bit enthusiastic in my story telling with my date while enjoying some cool ones when we were literally yelled at from across the room by the apparent owner that there was no cursing in the bar in the presence of a child. Yes, there was a 6 or 7 yr old girl in the back of the bar with her parents. I said I thought I was in a bar not a child care center. I apologized and continued my conversation. From that point on we were stared at by the owner as he chatted with others as though we were outsiders in the deep south somewhere. Some other locals were there and clearly cursed...no comments. He then goes outside the bar and stares in at us from the outside fiddling with a toothpick in his mouth before leaving. Sad. We skipped a meal. If he politely came over to us and asked us not to curse I would have happily obliged. If you want manners, then you should act accordingly yourself. read more

This is a very interesting place. Their burgers use English muffins instead of the typical buns which is quite a novelty. I enjoyed the captain Jack burger which has tomato jam (savory and sweet at the same time) paired off with a 1911 cider. Pretty good indeed! read more

Went and did the BreakneckRidge hike and needed some calories stat, so we asked what the best burger in town was and we were blessed in being led to this place. The service is so amazing and very friendly. The food is amazing and fresh! Even the bell peppers in the salad and feta cheese was so delicious and fresh. The beer selection is also very unique. The server had amazing recommendations based on what beer we normally liked. Lastly, don't forget to give their daily trivia question a try! Staff was very warm and welcoming. Unfortunately I was disappointed with my order. I had the shrimp tacos & it only came with 2 small tacos for $12!! If the tacos were amazing I would not complain but there was a complete lack of flavor. The place was packed so I'm assuming the other items on the menu are good. Stopped here with friends and found the owner to be really friendly, keeping us updated about the wait for a table. My order wasn't right when it arrived, and then came back completely missing the bun. Not a huge deal but weird. Doug's lives up to its name--not the BEST, but pretty good! They have good beers on tap (including a bunch of local ones), and the burgers are pretty good. I had the Captain Jack, which was basically a bacon cheeseburger but with pepper jack cheese. I didn't really taste the pepper jack, but overall it was a solid burger. What used to be a gross, dive bar is now a warm, friendly pub with cold draft and tasty pub fare. Gone are the grody, flea bitten bikers and tank topped women who all look worse for wear. We did have to wait way, way too long for our food, but it seemed like a 2-man run show so I don't blame them for it. I ordered a veggie burger, which was one of the best I've ever had and chock filled with delicious ingredients. My sweet potato fries were divine also. Come for the craft beer, stay for the company. If you are rolling through town, Doug's is the place you want to go to. The old saloon style bar has such an amazing charm and 1890s decor. Our bartender, Star was such a delight to talk to and had a lot of insider tips for what to do in the area and how to get around. It was so nice to sit and chat with other travelers in a fun, laid back environment. The pool table is a huge plus, too. I don't normally leave reviews but after coming here I felt inclined to. I was in NY for work so wanted to take a weekend to explore somewhere new for a change. As soon as I entered the older man (presuming Doug) makes a loud quip to the waiting staff, and much of the pub, about me being a 'little girl' (i'm 30) and having no friends as I am there alone?! Kind of offensive and embarrasing to your customers but I try and tell myself maybe its just his weird humour... I sit down for a few minutes when a family of four enter (I'm sitting on a table for 4) so he asks me to move to the back of the pub. Sure that makes sense, except this new place is a table for 6 and next to a window and its freezing cold. After I complained about the temperature they did turn the heating on, but I am left feeling completely baffled as to why I've been moved when it isn't a question of space, and why this man felt so inclined to treat me like a moron from the offset? Doesn't really matter what the food (nothing special) is like when you recieve that kind of treatment.. I have to wonder if I had been a guy would I have invited this kind of behaviour, since guys have been able to inhabit public spaces alone without drawing any negative attention since the beginning of time.. We went for a hike in the area, and wanted to stop for a beer and burger afterwards . We were warmly welcomed as we entered this cozy space. The burgers were fresh, cooked to perfection, and incredibly juicy. Our server, who was also tending bar,managed to multi-task quite effectively, he was attentive, friendly and competent. The owner,Doug, also introduced himself, and was was warm and welcoming. The beer selection was decent, although I'd love to see a Belgian beer on the menu. We came down here after a long day of a 19 mi. hike, exhausted and rather dirty from all the dirt. When we walked in, the owner seemed like he was used to getting hikers and had a very welcoming smile. We ordered the veggie burgers which came with fries. They were amazing!!
