As good as my review was three years ago, this one is even higher. I had a really tough electrical outage and wiring issue to solve but Mike's trouble shooter, Nate was up to the task. I would highly recommend this company, because they clearly stand behind their work. About 5 years ago Michael Dove's company did some extensive work for my husband and me that included installing recessed lighting in our kitchen, installing 3 bathroom light fixtures, removing track lighting in our bedroom and replacing it with recessed lighting, and installing a large bedroom ceiling fan. We were very pleased with their job. However, several weeks ago, one of the 2 bathroom light fixtures spontaneously fell out of the wall and onto the mirror. Since the fixture was hanging by its cord, we needed to have it repaired as soon as possible. That's why we hired a handyman who repaired it at a reasonable price. Although unable to locate the invoice, I recently phoned the company and explained the situation. Mr. Dove sensing an obligation to stand behind his work, reimbursed us for the repair despite the fact that he was not obligated to do so. read more

They did a bad drywall texture after they installed the ceiling can lamps. The texture doesn't match at all and it's obvious. Dove should not have told me he could do the drywall repairs if he couldn't do it properly. I should have contracted with a drywall contractor for that part of the job, and now it looks like I will have to in order to get a proper match. Also, Dove doesn't return phone calls, multiple calls. So when a business can't even return phone calls, what good are they and how viable are they as a business??? read more

This is a fantastic company. They came referred from a friend and man do we feel fortunate. I spoke to Michael about revamping our horrible kitchen lights. We had a small budget due to some non-optional home improvements we had to make. I gave him a $ amount and asked if he could pull a rabbit out of his hat. He said he could, and he did. We are in the process of giving our home a face lift in preparation for sale. The kitchen, of course, is a focal point. And it can be very costly to bring it up to current standards. One of our concerns was the original 30 year old lighting. We took advantage of a special LED conversion that Michael was offering and we're glad we did. We added the over the sink light conversion as well. Nate was punctual in arriving on time, was meticulous in his work, and finished up without a hitch. Several years ago a friend had Mike's team install recessed lighting in her kitchen. They did such a wonderful job she gave me their flier, which is how she found them - just a simple flier attached by rubber band to her front door. The work was exceptional. The price right. I attached the flier to my fridge for future reference. Almost 5 years passed. I bought a new fridge. Took Mike's flier off the old fridge and gave him a call. Within a few weeks he'd assessed my lighting needs, and his crew was at my house installing new light fixtures. The work is neat (they cordon off the area with plastic screening), fast (kitchen & dining room in one day), and replace florescent casing with crown molding. Beautiful work. Be warned: Mike's team does not putty nail holes or paint. Easy enough to accomplish by calling a painter. We had awful florescent lighting in the kitchen. YUCK! The area always looked dark. The food appeared gray. I hated cooking in my kitchen until Mike's Kitchen Lighting transformed my kitchen into a cook's paradise. YEAH! read more

Let there be light and perfection... I'm truly wowed by Michael J. Dove's Team and their ability to transform our ordinary kitchen into a well lit haven. In only a half a days work. It's surreal it's unheard of but it's true, and It happened today in our home! My family and I are so delighted with their work and how quick efficient and cost effective they were, not to mention polite, kind and professional too. Our kitchen suffered from the standard fluorescent lighting attached to a recessed ceiling. Our kitchen, which we also use as a dining room, is now glamorized! We had a new ceiling fan installed over our dining table. As for the other half of our kitchen, we now have five new circular light fixtures that were installed. Four of the five were put on display higher than the rest and framework was applied around them showcasing the lit area thus giving the new lights a classy and elegant look. A completely new on and off switch was installed along with a dimmer so we can control the lighting for any occasion. To top it off our lights are guaranteed to last 30 years which is unbelievable. Nate installed the kitchen light package with a hugger ceiling fan I purchased from Home Depot, and added two more additional LED lights in my kitchen. He also replaced the light over my sink with an LED light, which he connected to the two LED lights that were added. Very quick response, extremely professional. I was able to schedule a kitchen light upgrade within a few days of calling. The men were very kind and professional and it took just about five hours. They accidentally removed some finishing off my cabinets (they had taped off the area) and when I mentioned this to Michael, he responded immediately and sent me a credit (not enough to cover the cost of re-staining, but it was a very kind gesture -- without asking.) Just a note that they did not take credit cards, only check or cash, which I wasn't expecting or told in advance. I had a whim to redo my 1980s kitchen. After getting some very spendy estimates for new cabinets and counter tops (think over $20,000) I decided to do a mini face lift instead. I get those booklets mailed to me and an ad caught my eye, "Do you have ugly kitchen lighting?" Why yes I do, the fluorescent light box was just not eye-pleasing. I made an appointment for Michael Dove to come give me an estimate. He arrived promptly when scheduled and I told him I just was not ready to spend the big bucks on my kitchen. To get rid of the light box on the ceiling, it would be around $650. I showed him my drop cabinets hanging from the ceiling and asked if he could remove the cabinets too. No problem! He gave me a quote for $1,130. to remove the cabinets too. Two days later workers show up and remove the light box and drop cabinets. The new recessed lighting with four can lights look great, it really opens up the kitchen. The new 'tray' ceiling is framed by crown molding (no extra charge) that makes the ceiling look updated. The workers re-textured the ceiling where they took out the cabinets and added three can lights. The workers were very professional, they draped the work area in plastic and didn't leave a big mess. I couldn't believe they got the job done in under four hours! New lighting really does make a tired kitchen perk up!! The kitchen looks so much better I think I'll wait a couple more years to do the expensive remodel. read more

Just had our old fluorescent kitchen lights updated with recessed canned lighting and crown molding. It was a super simple process on our end (just had to clean off the kitchen counters) and so was making the appointment. I texted measurements to Michael and they were out less than a week later. Nate arrived on time and completely transformed my kitchen lighting from the ugly 1978 fluorescent tube metal frame box into a beautiful 6 LED recessed lights enclosed area framed with crown molding! He not only renovated the ceiling and installed the lights and crown molding but he also painted the entire ceiling area and installed a new dimmer switch for controlled lighting. This was the first step in a total kitchen remodel and I couldn't be more pleased with the the new lighting - it's perfect. We just had our ugly fluorescent lighting upgraded by Mike and his crew. And when I say upgrade I mean UPGRADE. They did their usual trim out the box and replace with recessed lighting; but what a DIFFERENCE. I feel like I have a new kitchen. I had no idea that such a small and quick change would make such a substantial difference. The crew of two came in, worked neatly and quickly. The job was done in one day! Everything was covered and taped off, no lingering dust etc anywhere...from the vehicle parked in our driveway to the walk way outside to the interior of the home. They took care to take off their shoes before entering our home. The molding they put up is gorgeous. It turned our kitchen from 1970's drab to 2013 elegance. I am very picky about lighting. With the new technology they use, the lights only draws 60 watts but is a wonderful warm bright light. 60 watts is less than what we were using before the install. We had ours put on a dimmer switch for just another $20. You buy the dimmer switch. We recommend the Pass Seymour brand at Lowes that can handle all types of light...incandescent halogen, led, etc... Regarding the prior comment about the nail holes (they do not paint). They use a new product/primer that covered our nail holes. And with just with the primer it looks great. We can't say enough about the quality of the work and the staff at Michael Dove! read more

This company does so much more than kitchen lights! Ceiling fans, dimmers, replacing out old vanity fixtures! I used Michael J. Dove about three years ago when we replaced our old fluorescent lights in the kitchen with canned lights. Very professional and the team did a great job! When we moved back to CA from HI this year, I called MJD because I wanted to have the house more energy efficient. I had MJD's team install 13 new LED lights in the house and they installed three new energy efficient ceiling fans (I provided the fans and remotes) and dimmers. The fan installation went very, very well considering my ceilings are about 16ft high and sloped. MJDs team installed our lights and fans and did all of the necessary patchwork so I didn't have to hire a drywall guy. The project area was kept very clean and the noise was minimal.
