So here I am looking for a Massage therapy program. Perfect ! found one that accepts Financial aid and is only about 4 hours long. The sign up process is easy go to an orientation pay $250 to register and then either make an appointment for financial aid or to make payment plans. This is the only school that I found that will take your $250 and not pay you back with financial aid. Ok, so I sign up everyone including the teachers Mr.Monte was extremely nice and helpful. I wait for a call from financial aid, saying I was accepted. Took about 3 days after I paid $250 at orientation to receive a call. Which is fine but the financial aid office was so rude all of them are so inconsiderate and just mean. They were very harsh with words and treated me as if I was a child. It was really upsetting. There's no need to be so cruel. Had I been a younger person trying to start off my educational training with them. It would have totally put me off. But I'm a 35 year old adult. Whom had a very lucrative business before Covid and have an autistic toddler, so I need the freedom of having a more flexible yet balanced career. Which is why I chose massage therapy. So financial aid office is horrible! But I start class and it was so stressful. There were people in there who wouldn't let the teacher speak (totally understandable it's not the teachers fault ) but he was almost borderline racist and sexist among favoritism which is more than obvious. For example I would walk into class. And he would start a conversation with us all but would be ok, If some people would stroll in there talking on there phone loudly too and be on the phone throughout his whole speech or even when we were studying. He wouldn't say anything to them. I get mingling, I love meeting new people but they didn't understand rules or weren't considerate of others not there fault because it was obvious there were raised that way. It was Mr.Monte who should have reinforced his boundaries in class and sympathized with all and realize all of us were adults trying to learn. He also had people coming in 2 hours late or 30 mins or 1 hour everyday... and I as an adult have grown quite a bit so if I ever was to be late I would call. He then would say I had to stay after class. But if you didn't call at all and just showed up late he wouldn't say anything. My friend was an ex addict I met her in this class she got away with coming in everyday late an hour late. And nothing was said. Look I understand everyone has issues and problems. I didn't want to say anything at the time but I was breastfeeding it was hard for my baby to leave me so if I had to call and say I'll be 15 mins late he would say to me "maybe you shouldn't start school until you stop breastfeeding" I honestly couldn't believe it. I had about 3 conversations with him and all ended with if you breastfeed or have a toddler don't start school until they are old enough. What kind of Bull* is that ? I'm a petty calm person and really try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I lost my mom a few years ago my brother as well, I've been homeless and broke but also made more than $80,000 a year in my life time. I was a teenage mom myself and my aim was to help Latinos and black families in my areas with a better understanding of how to raise their children to succeed and have support one thing I know I didn't have as a child. So when I'm being treated unfairly it's like a super low blow. I'm Born here in America but my dad is from Mexico and my mom from Oklahoma native America. I can pass off as white I guess and have been told I don't look Latina. I speak a Certain way because my first language was Spanish and the teachers in the 90s hated that. I've tried really hard in life to be kind and not judge. This place is really a horrible place. I asked Mr.Monte when we will Learn anatomy,? He said we do that on our own. Lol what ? So anyone who graduated from here won't know any of the bones. I had to leave because I didn't want to be that kind of massage therapist. They way they get away with that is because there is no massage therapist exam at the moment there use to be. So now you can pass as long as your teacher believes you have the knowledge. The financial aid people are just mean, unprofessional and unpleasant. And the school isn't worth it. But if this is all you can get because it's cheap. Make sure you learn and read yourself. Upon completion of the program students will have knowledge of infection control standards, exposure and developing dental radiographs, dental instrumentation, four-handed dentistry, chair side dental assisting, and operating dental practice management software. Quite honestly, this is extremely long over due. But I'd like to simply say that Downey's Massage Therapy Program is truly a gem in LA. Monte really embodies his craft and you can see he truly loves what he does. He has many stories, tons of knowledge to share. Take advantage if you are interested in a massage therapy program. Frankly, it's one of the most inexpensive massage programs I found. And many more were welling to travel longer distances than I did. The main reason to choose this program isn't because it's economical, but rather for the knowledgeable educator Monte, who is great at presenting and teaching the material. He is extremely approachable when you have questions. Most importantly, he has lots of experience in the field. Keep in mind, at the end of the day, it's what you put into it. I had met such a wonderful team of teachers,coordinador,counselor and director of this facility,like Mr.Dane our coordinador such a great dude very supportive and open,he would help you out as much as he cans if you ask for help of course,Ms Sawada for math that was patient,persistent and had empathy toward my situation,Ms. Holt for Rla great teacher,and Mr. Ofner that dude never fail to amaze me,he was always supportive and open to work things out,and on the testing division we have Gary another super cool dude always throwing good vibes and on a relaxed mood,Mrs. Minerva the lady at front desk in computer lab,also great human been always willing to help gave extra supplies to study,the principal was always willing to help always open to work things out.
