For my first visit, I had a pretty good experience. Service was decent. Space is big with a little bit of a theme to it. And even if I didn't love all the beers, I do appreciate the beers all being very distinct and flavor forward. That's one of the most important jobs of a craft brewery is to brew distinct beers that are recognizable- Elk Mountain does that. Unsurprisingly, my favorite was their seasonal Imperial Cherry Stout- smooth with just the right cherry flavor. However, at 8% I wasn't able to have more than one since I also did a full flight of all their beers. Of their flagship beers, I enjoyed the stout the most. My drinking companion enjoyed their pale ale and stout the best. They were out of the brown which made me sad. Their amber was ok but unmemorable. The kolsch was pretty good, if a touch too sweet. And the IPA and wheat are never my thing, but both were tolerable. Their dampfbeir was super sweet, way more than most weiss beers I've experienced before. And their mojito firkin was awful and awesome, all at the same time. The first tastes we had were very lime-y, super acidic, but the last tastes we had, all we could taste was the mint. We kept coming back to it, undecided if we hated it or love it-- I'm still not sure. I would definitely come here again, and as it's one of a couple breweries equidistant between me and a friend, I'm sure this won't be the last time I'm here. read more

Being micro brew fans, when we saw a sign that said microbrewery right in our own town we had to investigate. What a cool idea... Only serve beer... no food. I was worried the concept wouldn't make it but now you can drop by even on a week night and the place is hoppin. You are allowed to bring in food or to order food to be delivered. It's very western rustic decor includes lots of cedar wood and picnic tables and benchs along with a long bar. They have 8-10 different varieties on any give day and our favorite thing to do is to share a full sampler and then decide our favorites from there. There is also a pool table and a big bin full of board games you are welcome to play. So it's even got a very family friendly atmosphere and they have brewed rootbeer for the kiddo's and non-drinkers in your party as well. It's worth the drive out to check this place out. read more

Not a bad little brewery. I passed on getting a tshirt because obviously it has a picture of an elk on it. Coming from Wyoming I have had my fill for the rest of my lifetime of seeing elk, deer, wolves, eagles and bears printed on tshirts. Despite that I enjoyed the Hefeweisen, the IPA and the porters aren't bad either. As some other reviewers have mentioned it isn't as strong overall to Denver's downtown breweries but it isn't bad either. The gentlemen the work here though show their love for beer and that is genuine and sincere. One guy went so far as to have big tattoo on his arm with hops on it. You also have to probably get on the E470 toll way as well and since toll roads are quite rare here in Colorado and not a necessity I avoid it as much as I can but it doesn't seem you have much choice in the matter if you go to Parker. An added plus was that a lady came in from a nearby Indian restaurant and gave us free samples! read more

Never been here before. Walked in with my wife, sat down at a table. Not that busy, nice atmosphere. After about 5 minutes of looking at the chalk board menu over the bar we decide what beer we want. After another 5 minutes of starring at the beers we again confirm what beers we want. After another 5 minutes I got tired of sitting there without being asked what beers we want, or even being acknowledged, so we left. Sorry, some people may have more patience and normally I would also, but in this case I wasn't in the mood to play a dumb customer. How this place has stayed in business I'm not sure. The brews are quite tasty but, I've lived in Parker for 13 years now and this place has been in business for 2 years, I drive down this street about 4 times a week to go play hockey and I haven't seen this place before! It is off the beaten path, I mean WAY OFF the beaten path and suffers from very small street signage. They don't waste any time on food. You are allowed to bring your own or even get deliveries. While someone suggested Hickory House I feel as though I have to mention my favorite BBQ in town and that's Big Jim's http://www.yelp.com/biz/big-jims-barbeque-parker. This isn't a downtown brewery, this is Parker. While I'm delighted to have a brewery in town, it's not a lot to look at. They sell growlers and on Tuesdays you can refill them for $7! Came to Colorado to visit family. Downhill brewing popped up as a family friends brewery. However, Downhill happens to be one of the stops for a brewery hopping bus. The group that came off of the bus gathered for a picture but, in the process people began climbing onto our table to pose for a pic and one girl almost fell onto my 9 year old sister (twice). Bring your own food and sip on some solid brews @ Elk Mountain. The tasting room is roomy and there is a nice patio out back for the warmer days. They have a pool table, TVs, wifi and games that you can play. If you are hungry, they have free popcorn to snack on and they sell a few other snack items - nuts, pretzels, etc. If you are really hungry, grab some takeout or order delivery! Besides their regular lineup of beers, they have had some really interesting brews - really liked the carmel vanilla porter (winter seasonal) and the chili beer (firkin). They have root beer for the kiddos or the DD. Discounted growler fills every Tuesday. The bartenders are friendly and the prices are right! We found ourselves a little further south than normal and I suddenly remembered that I've had this place bookmarked for a minute, so we decided to make the trip. We came in during a football game, the place wasn't terribly crowded but it was very loud with the fans. We grabbed a table and were greeted immediately. (I'm hoping I remember correctly I think her name was Emily..) She was real friendly and real fast. We tried a flight, including the Ute, the Puma, the Stout and the Red Head IPA. I liked them all, the stout had a really great robust flavor and the Red Head was a clean and easy drinking one. They were out of the amber and alas, the brown which I was excited about. I start with my standard: If you can make a living out of selling beer, then you are awesome. And I am envious of your success. The beer itself was okay, but nothing stood out as overly impressive nor did I want to take home a growler. There was only one server/bartender. There was a Broncos game on and most people there were present to watch. This pub struck me as a locals joint focused on the locals. I did not care for the kids in there, but if I had kids and wanted a beer, well, I'd be in the same spot. Maybe make Elk Mountain a first stop on a brewery exploration day. read more

We just moved to town at the end of January and quickly started the Colorado State beer tour. The problem is that we came to Elk Mountain first and fell in love and we have no reason to go elsewhere now. Following are the 10 best reasons to go to Elk Mountian: 1) The owner Tom is totally laid back and cool. He is not an egomaniac just because he brews delightful beer. He makes everybody feel like part of the family. 2) The only place where you can get a beer tour and get all your questions answered and they will tell you everything and anything you want to know about their beer. They are patient and love that you are interested in what they do. 3) They have exceptionally good brews. There is not a beer on their menu that I would turn my nose up at. 4) They have an IPA that isn't over the top bitter. They are not trying to "outhop" the competition. I am not a fan of most IPA's, but theirs has a delightful smell and is smooth on the tongue. 5) The patrons are all a lot of fun to talk to and meet. Everybody is there for the same purpose. To relax, kick back, and drink a cold brew. 6) Where else can you eat your favorite restaurant food and drink good beer at the same time? Even if you are in the mood for some nasty McDonald's quarter pounders, at least you can wash it down with a great pale ale or brown. 7) Jenga fest, dominoes, checkers. When was the last time you sat down at a table with perfect strangers and shared a game, laughter and beer and had a memorable night? 8) Wednesday Firken nights where you get to try the experimental batches, which brought about the likes of the wildly delicious Vanilla Carmel Porter that is like heaven in a glass. 9) Great prices and friendly wait staff. 10) Growler Tuesdays. If you have not been here, do so immediately. You will not be sorry. In fairness, I should offer some negatives so here goes....the beer goes down so smooth that you might be sorry the next morning when you realize that perhaps you should have stopped after the third beer or so. They don't have a Belgium which I would love. There are no dart boards which is a downer for me because I don't play pool but love darts. Tom is working on a solution to this problem at the request of several patrons. It is not swanky, it is not a restaurant. It has the ambiance of a hunting lodge. If that is a problem for you, it is not a place for you. OR give it a try and you might be pleasantly surprised at how at home you feel. The Firkin this week was 'Red Hot Amber' which is an Amber Ale aged in Red Hot candies. While the concept sounded great, the beer was just 'meh', but the new Seasonal Belgian Wit was aswsome! And, this weeks food truck, "East Coast Joe's", was one of the best! I had a Lobster Grilled Cheese with Bacon...yea, that's right I said Lobster Grilled Cheese! This is a great place to visit. Wife and I went out with some friends and had an amazing time on their back patio. The beer selection is great and they have something for everyone, including a couple wine selections from the winery next door. The pizza was just how we liked it too...thin, crispy, and delicious. Great selection of beers (dark, light, fruity, hoppy) you name it they have it. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Only downside (hence the 3 stars) is that they have no food services on site. They rely on food trucks which can be awesome but at times (due to crowd size) can be super slow. No food means less beers to sample for me. Really wish they could add some light apps (soft pretzels, chips and guacamole, cheese plate, etc) to their bar. read more

This place is WONDERFUL. Cool atmosphere, great beer etc. However, it's communicating a lot to the town by choosing not to accommodate families with high chairs. We would absolutely be at drinking and eating here regularly if kids were welcome. The location is situated next to gymnastics, swimming school, money bizness, kids shoes & clothing. Parents would be FLOCKING there if it was more kid friendly. The owners can't be morons about this, which leads be to conclude they intentionally do not have high chairs or boosters. Our Hometown Brewery. Owners Doug and Jake have made Downhill a brewery with a ferociously loyal following. The beers are varied and brewed with love, dedication and precision. There's a beer for every palate. The pizzas are New York style and, when paired with your favorite beer, makes a delicious meal. As important as the beer and pizza is, it's the atmosphere and staff that make Downhill special. The "Cheers"-like, ambiance is extremely friendly and welcoming. After your first visit, you're a lifetime member of the "Connoisseurs of Downhill Club" (CDC, no, not that CDC, but what Downhill has to offer can cure what ails ya). The staff is amazing! They are all very knowledgeable about beer and are happy to provide recommendations.
