Breaking Café Coffee roastery, Café, and bakery located in Downtown Belfast that shares a storefront w/ CG Bikes. The Good: *Bought a bag of their medium roast Tanzania Peaberry coffee, and it was really good. *Great location along the Belfast Harbor *Scones passed the approval of Carissa's dad. The Meh: *Parking can be very tricky here at the Ha'bor. The Ugly: *We went back to get her dad more scones and were met with the rudest employee. All we did was ask if they had any scones, and we were met with a nasty scowl and a rude, condescending response of, "If it's not in the case, then we're out." Well excuse the fuck out of us. Clearly, you don't like business, and we're more than happy to oblige. Conclusion: One bad apple spoils the bunch. read more

Incredible barista, baker, and checkout experience. They hit the mark in every area. You will not be disappointed. Got the sour and chive scone and blueberry muffin. They were so good we went back and got two more scones. The maple spice syrup is delicious and perfect for fall. Got it in a cappuccino and my boyfriend got a cortado. Both great. Aesthetic. Coffee was great. However, Bit of an attitude from the girl being the counter because I brought my dog in. Despite it being a service dog. She never asked. She just assumed and told me "no dogs allowed" then told me to leave and she would bring coffee out. Honey cake was delish. First time trying that. Apparently, it is a thing here. read more

During a rainy roadtrip, my husband and I needed a quick pick-me-up; thankfully, we found this adorable coffee shop/bike shop in a small town off the highway. The coffee was mediocre at best. All we ordered was a latte and an iced coffee. The iced coffee was acidic and the espresso was weak and ruined the latte. The atmosphere was very nice though and seems like a nice spot to hang out. Service was fine, nothing to write home about. Didn't feel particularly welcoming though which is odd especially in a town where I'm sure this business relies on tourism. read more

I'm not sure why everyone likes this place so much. The treats are ok, but not worth the price. The coffee is also ok. I understand that a latte is a steamed milk coffee, but there should still be the flavor of coffee in it. I've had three lattes from here and it was the same result each time, so I know it wasn't a fluke. I'll try other things in the future and if my opinion changes, I'll update this review. read more

Please notice this plea from a local. Dear owner. We all love Downshift, it's one of my favorite hangouts and home for a lot of us, but please, MY BROTHER IN CHRIST. PLEASE. Learn. How. To. Pull. A. Shot. Please! Get some advice from any one of your friendly staff who are more than capable of providing a cup of coffee or a latte that isn't MOTOR OIL. Every single time you, the owner, make drinks, I should just turn around and leave, because the results are just comically over caffeinated. How do you not understand that your tolerance is way out of touch? Not every patron wants to immediately have to leave and spend the rest of the afternoon on the toilet. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ask one of your staff to show you how to make a coffee that isn't a ridiculous amount of caffeine. You have a problem. Please get help or leave the barista work to your wonderful staff. Otherwise, 5 stars as always. read more

Coffeeshop connected to bike shop?! My dream come true! Super chill little spot, great latte and London fog (i asked for off menu). I did pop back in after a few sips to ask for more vanilla syrup which they gladly offered, am grateful they started light bc I tend to prefer less sweet. I walked by this for about a year thinking it was a bike shop...While at the same time vocally lamenting belfasts lack of a coffee spot. That's on me. I finally stopped in here and had an excellent mocha. It is clean and well lit, with friendly baristas and a good vibe. My bad for not stopping in sooner. If you do bike, there's bike stuff in the back I presume. read more

Downshift felt fresh and new. What I really liked was the vibe being seemingly part bike shop, part coffee, part fun. I enjoyed one of the tempting cookies with maple and it was just soft enough and the maple flavor was about right. The shop was not opened inside but take out was available, however, it looked like the owners had done a nice job creating an inviting space. read more

Shelley here, I was so excited to try this shop as I am an out of towner (not a Mainer) but upon arrival I was met with the most abysmal woman! She was wearing a pink shirt upon our arrival, and unfortunately they had closed shop. We walked through the wide open door at 3:18, and they closed at 3:00. The woman said the bike shop was open and we could check it out, but that is where her short term hospitality to us ended. We decided to leave and see if there were other shops nearby, and I decided to ask her if she knew of any nearby. She rolled her eyes at me and her eyes widened as if I'd asked her to pay me 1000 dollars, and said curtly 'no, the co op has coffee'. This I tried to take well, but Shelley here tries to be kind to all and that wasn't kind or becoming of someone in customer service. I was left with many questions and unseemly emotions. What is the co op? Did I offend her with my question? Am I truly being difficult right now? She must've had a long day as it was the end of what must have been a very difficult shift. However, we then asked her where this rumored co op must be, and then she paused. There was a shudder in her and she paused wiping the dish she was washing. Her eyes became as wide as could be, and she makes an odd motion and rolls here eyes AGAIN! She points out the open door and says "there". Picture a teenage girl disgusted with you for breathing- that is the experience we encountered. I was quite appalled. Tears welled in my eyes as I walked out with my family silently defeated. If this is how the city of Belfast treats their guests, regardless of downshift coffee's clearly abysmal customer service, then I can not recommend this charming looking town. This woman is an affront to nature. Please hire more compassionate and customer service oriented workers. If she simply had a hard day, please consider helping her find counseling for her truly boggling attitude. I really wish I could've tried this coffee. read more

This should be a must go-to coffee shop if you're ever passing through Belfast. Had the pleasure of stumbling upon this place and trying their latte, espresso, iced chai, and chocolate chip cookie - everything was excellent. Didn't catch the name of the owner, but he used to bake professionally and it shows. The cookie had a delicate crisp texture on the edges with a softer, yet still firm center. They roast their own beans, and use double ristretto shots which give a sweeter, creamier taste. And the oat milk used for the iced chai is made from scratch. They just opened this May, so only offer take-out at the moment, but it's definitely worth making a pit spot in Belfast just for this place! Definitely coming back again. read more

Best coffee I've found yet in the coastal Maine area. Roasted themselves and a perfect iced americano and a fresh, tasty scone that beats anything around. We sat outside on Belfast Bay at a table and waited for our number to be called. The view from the back deck is spectacular. I had a single 1 1/2 pound lobster and clam chowder. I am gluten-free. I asked about the chowder and they said it was gluten-free so I had some. The chowder was OK. Not thick at all (hence GF) with way more potatoes than clams. The clam chowder was good, but I wouldn't get it again. It's just not my style. The single lobster was excellent. The lobster was sweet and there was plenty of it. When you pick it up at the counter, they ask if you want the lobster cut for you. I appreciate that. Especially with the hard shell. It makes it much easier to crack open. My kids had the lobster roll. There was plenty of lobster and they enjoyed them very much. I recommend Young's Lobster Pound. Lobster was excellent. The view was spectacular. My only suggestion would be to have someone outside wiping down the tables or have spray and paper towels available so patrons can wipe down the tables and seats before use. The tables can get sticky with all the butter and lobster juice.

We got vanilla lattes ($6.75 + 90¢ for vanilla) which had 0 vanilla flavor. I got a quiche ($8.50 for a measly slice!! A crime!!). Quiche of the day was broccoli, cheddar, and onion. It was the literal worst quiche of my entire life. My husband got the yogurt + granola + honey ($7.95 + $1 for banana), which was fine, because it's pretty hard to mess up a parfait. $32 total (!!) for the worst breakfast ever. The rating is ridiculously inflated for this place. Wish we never had gone. Overinflated reviews, overinflated prices, underwhelming coffee and food.
