One of my favorite stops in Belfast. I only eat donuts at The Only Donut. Their potato donuts are a little bit heavier than those in the midwest but they are so delicious. also the variety of flavors is amazing. This trip I discovered the "sea smoke" flavor and swear that it was hands down the best tasting donut I've ever had. You might call ahead and order as my last morning there I went in for more of that flavor and someone had bought them out shortly before I got in. Simply amazing donuts! read more

Happened to drive by on my search to find downtown Belfast and treats for my community--wow! So glad I stopped! Was 1:40 pm on a Saturday, luckily they were still open and 17 donuts were left. Some plain, some cinnamon sugar, a few marbled chocolate and vanilla. Absolutely delicious! Great texture, not too sweet , just the right size. We gobbled them up. Next time I'm up Down East, I'll definitely be stopping by again, hopefully earlier in the day to try more kinds. If you like donuts, include Only in your travel plans. I had a craving for brioche. I had a craving for a donut . It was suggested that I try The Only Doughnut. I did. I couldn't get up the icy steps with my cane, so I sent my wife to get me a doughnut. Honestly, it was okay, but didn't really taste like brioche and it just felt like a perfunctory donut. It didn't really taste of German Chocolate either, which I ordered, but it was huge and rather light. Perhaps it was a off day, as I really didn't have a knock your socks off experience. I really like this local donut shop in Belfast churning out traditional cake-style donuts made with potato. If it invites comparison with the Holy Donut in Portland in both donut style and name, that appears to be somewhat intentional, but the similarities really end there. They manage to carve out their own niche with their own unique flavors, and the donuts taste completely different. My favorite is the sea smoke, which has a smoked salt on top which contrasts very nicely with the sweet glaze. I also like their mixed chocolate-vanilla donut, which is perfect for indecisive people like me. None of the other donuts stand out quite so much, but they are generally solid, reliable donuts. Are they the best donuts in New England? No, but they do a good job and satisfy that deep donut craving in a pinch. read more

Gluten free donuts!! I am spoiled by Southern Maine's Holy Donuts. I have driven by the Only Donut several times and decided to try it. The regular donuts are so visually pleasing, a perfect variety to entice you. I found a couple gluten free which I appreciated having a choice. I bought the chocolate with a smoky glaze (?) it was very good. I would say a solid 8 out of 10. The Holy Donut has a chocolate sea-salt that curls my toes but this donut at the Only Donut deserves credit. Maybe potato flour is the secret ingredient of their competition? Service was great, ambiance is walk in walk out with some limited outside seating. I would recommend grabbing your donuts and coffee and heading to the awesome city parks in Belfast. read more

Drove from Bangor to try out some of Maine's potato doughnuts! Really cute store! Large parking lot for parking. They limit the amount of customers inside to 3 and require customers to wear masks. Employees are wearing masks too! They have a large variety of potato doughnuts both chocolate and vanilla with other toppings. This is hands down the best doughnut shop in Maine. It may not look like much when you first walk in, but trust me-just beyond that counter and the smiling doughnut dealer is the most exquisite pastry you've ever had. They have two types-brioche and traditional. I love both. You must try a cinnamon sugar brioche, Boston creme, and fluffernutter. The staff is as sweet as the doughnuts and super helpful. Flavors change daily, and hours just shortened in the off season, which as a local, breaks my heart. read more

This is the ONLY place to go for donuts on the entire eastern seaboard. First of all it has the nicest staff behind the counter, and these days charm counts for a lot. And the DONUTS! The brioche donuts are light and fluffy, the blueberry especially so. The chocolate sea smoke tastes amazing. We brought home a dozen for the whole family and then we cut them up so that everyone could get a little taste of each. The Boston Cream was the best I've ever had. It was a donut we purchased in the afternoon which made it even more amazing. The texture of the donut was great. Moist and tender. The chocolate frosting was delicious and wasn't too sweet. The cream filling was also fantastic. We also tried the gluten-free blueberry/lemon and buttermilk chocolate. They were ok and nothing to write home about, but it was nice to have gluten-free options. I actually thought that the buttermilk chocolate was going to have icing on it but it didn't, so that was disappointing. read more

By far some of the best donuts i've ever had! I went around 9 am and they had at least 20 different donuts, and that's not even including gluten free donuts options. We got a half dozen--it was painstaking to try to narrow it down from such a variety of interesting types. I really enjoyed all of them, but my three favorites had to be Sea Smoke, Chocolate Ganache and Earl Gray. Staff was so friendly and happy to give suggestions. There are those who settle for Dunkin'. I am one of those, so I'm easily wowed by a good doughnut shop. I think this is an exception, though. I mean, I've had other donuts, not just Krispy Kreme and Donut Plant. But these donuts made me feel like I've been missing out on something most of my life. Made me wish we went to more donut shops in our New England road trip, like maybe they make then different up here?. The cake donuts are real cake donuts, a tad on the greasy side but a filling chew. The apple fritters are sticks, but tasty sticks! The buttermilk brioche is in a class of its own. Delivers on both texture and flavor. This is definitely a reason to go back to Belfast. read more
