Strong Recommendation for Phil and Downsizing Solutions It's so important to hire someone who truly knows what they're doing when handling an estate sale. Unfortunately, my recent sellers chose a company on their own, and in my opinion, they were greatly taken advantage of. The experience reminded me just how exceptional Phil and his team at Downsizing Solutions are. Phil is, without question, one of the best estate sale professionals I've ever worked with. To give some perspective, the company my sellers used spent only three days going through the home, while Phil typically dedicates two to three weeks to carefully sort, organize, and price everything so each item is displayed and visible. This particular home was filled with high-end items, many brand new and countless tools and collectibles stored in every room and closet. The other company didn't set up enough display tables, leaving many valuable items unseen and underpriced. In contrast, Phil and his team use every available space, even setting up tables in the backyard if needed, ensuring that everything is visible and well-presented. Phil consistently draws large crowds, often with hundreds of people lined up before the sale even opens, and his sales generate strong returns for sellers. He also goes above and beyond after the sale, working closely with clients to organize donations and provide documentation for tax write-offs. It's difficult to see clients taken advantage of, especially when they simply didn't know the difference in quality and professionalism among estate sale companies. I did recommend Phil, but they chose someone who was personally connected to the deceased. It was a hard lesson learned, and I want to make sure others don't have the same experience. Had a terrible experience with Phil from Downsizing Solutions LA at one of his sales recently. He says his sales are organized - far from it and there's a serious lack of communication between team members. His team all seemed to be unhappy. I would be too if I worked for a short-tempered and crooked boss like him. If you're a good judge of character, just take one look at him and you can tell he's not a good guy. Watch out for being overcharged! He'll take the opportunity any chance he can. I witnessed him overcharging another customer, and then it happened to us immediately after. When the other customer brought it to his attention, he forcefully and rudely handed her the money back while borderline cursing at her. Unbelievable. We're the only reason why you're even in business, buddy! When we brought to his attention about us being overcharged, we got nothing but attitude and rudeness. We were finally able to recover the money he shorted us, only after having to threaten to report him. Avoid this company. There are dozens and dozens of other estate sale companies to support. Message to Phil: You should consider being a politician instead...better fit for you. read more

The sale was good, got some items. But the man running the show was extremely rude. Not only to guests- yelling at everyone to wait, go, move etc., but he was also so unkind to the ladies working the sale with him. I feel compelled to respond to the false and inflammatory claims made by the owner in his reply. First, I was a paying customer who expected professionalism and accuracy during a transaction. Instead, I was treated rudely when I raised a legitimate concern about being overcharged. The description provided in the owner's reply is not only grossly exaggerated--it is untrue. At no point did I "intentionally confuse" anyone or act in bad faith. I have no association with anyone named Omar Taha beyond standing in line like any other customer that day. The accusation of "extortion" is not only absurd, it's defamatory. If this business believes that respectful criticism is an attack, that says more about their approach to customer service than it does about the customers themselves. Rather than taking responsibility for poor conduct or fixing issues, the owner has chosen to discredit and insult a customer who spoke up. I was at both days of a recent estate sale and it was a great experience for my first ES. I also had a chance to talk to the company owner about how Downsizing Solutions LA operates and I would happily recommend this company to avid estate sale shoppers and property owners that need to sell their belongings for any reason. From how he uses his appraiser eye, 20 plus years of experience, and invests in pricing research to find the fairest, most reasonable price he can where everyone can walk home happy to the consideration for his client and their property, I honestly felt bad being a budget shopper on discount day. I attended the sale in Glendale today. I've been to a bunch of Estate sales so long lines aren't surprising. I'd dropped by the day before and was box #38. The 30 minute wait to enter was reasonable. It's understandable that everyone can't get in all at once. The prices were not great and they were not horrible but within reason. Nicole upstairs was very polite. Then the checkout line waiting began. It was an hour at best and far longer when I left. I saw several people put things back and leave. There is 1 person writing down each item and taking payment. The payment! While it was specified that a cash app was accepted, there were neither codes printed out or even just the phone number written down. Each non cash customer had to ask for the number and enter it, hoping you got in typed in correctly the first go or there was kick back. The person was much as described in other reviews. He was angry about the electronic payments even though he'd decided to accept them. He spoke harshly to both his staff and customers alike. I can get past the wait times. It happens and however a person chooses to run thier business is thier own free choice. What I can't abide is watching someone be so angry and so rude to people who have done nothing to provoke. Heed the plethora of reviews here that have a common theme and expect to experience or witness these things for yourself. read more

Based on the owners reply in every poor review, he takes no responsibility. Expect that if you still go to one of their sales thinking your experience will be any different. Phil is a loud mouth and knows nothing about customer engagement or service. It's a wonder anyone signs a contract to let this guy represent your loved ones possessions, let alone setting foot in their home and leaving behind bar energy. His claim that every item is priced...BS. I've never been to any estate sale where every item is priced. Yet if something isn't priced he accuse random customers of removing them or not seeing them. It's NEVER his fault and he will NEVER apologize for ANYTHING. I would give them zero stars if I could. The guy running the place was extremely rude and irritable from start to finish. He was openly cussing at patrons and employees and dropping f-bombs. He yelled at one customer to "put their f-ing mask on" and others to "get out of the f-ing line" and to another woman "I'm not doing f-ing business with you!" after she politely refused to buy an item because of the price he quoted. I spent time getting down and dirty digging unpriced items out of bins and closets, and when he quoted these items at prices that left little for profit margin, he became upset after I politely declined some of the items. I did the work finding these items that he didn't do his due diligence on pricing and then gets upset with me? I've been doing this for awhile and have come across some characters but never come across anyone on this level. After this exchange I said outright to him how rude he was been and could stand to be a little more respectful. He responds "that's right! I am a jerk!" Wow. Do yourself a favor and don't bother going to his estate sales or doing business with this company. read more

When discussing how to pay he talked down to her and demeaned the crap out of her. She was shocked and left. So did all the other customers within ear shot. I went to an estate sale located in Cypress in September held by this company. This estate sale had plenty to offer...there was a long line but worth the wait. There were a lot of people in line that re-sell clothes/items for their business. I shop to see what goodies I can find for my daughter or home. I was intrigued by the internet ad for estate sale by DOWNSIZING SOLUTIONS LA which was being held in a condo, located in a residential neighborhood just west of Century City . I found the sale with the help of my GPS but the signs on the street said NO PARKING. Parking was only legal for residents with a permit. I drove around the neighborhood and these signs were on every street. Parking restrictions and suggestions were never mentioned in his ad, something other estate sale companies always do. I called the number on the ad for DOWNSIZING SOLUTIONS LA and spoke to a very rude man. The first thing he said was "I just told you to park on Beverly Glen." I don't know who he was referring to, but obviously someone else had the same problem. He said nobody else had complained. Beverly Glen, is about four blocks away via a steep hill. I drove down to Beverly Glen but there were no empty spaces. I gave up and left which is his company and client's loss. I was shocked at this man's rudeness. If I was his client, I would have been very upset that he treated customers this way and scared away sales. read more

The vinyl records purchased were fairly priced, condition was conservatively appraised & better than expected upon pickup. This company is well organized company. Phil is friendly, reasonable, and very knowledgeable.

Maybe this company is great for their clients -- I have no idea -- but I was shocked at how I saw their customers treated today. For some reason, only one guy (Phil I guess?) was in charge at the checkout all day, dictating items and pre-marked prices one by one to a nice young employee whose only job appeared to be to write this info in a notebook. Then the guy took the payments himself, instead of trusting his employees to do it. This led to a MASSIVE line to check out all day long (in addition to at least an hour wait to get in halfway into the sale). Mismanagement aside, what was so shocking to me today was hearing the check out guy being borderline verbally abusive to his customers and employees, over the smallest things. And these customers were not trying to haggle or argue. They had patiently waited in this man's self-created line, and just wanted to buy their items and get on with their day. I could elaborate, but other reviewers have already covered it. Based on the toxic combo of ineptitude and nastiness, I will not be shopping any more Downsizing Solutions LA sales in my weekly estate sale excursions. read more

They overcharge for everything! Resellers won't do well buying from them. At a current sale of theirs I went too, the man taking the money ( I think he's the owner) for the sales was very rude and that added to the unpleasant experience. There are many other estate type sellers that are much better to deal with and I recommend you use them instead.. Here is the reply that came from the seller. it's probably all made up to save face. The fact they have stayed in business as long as they have is the actual joke! I was just being honest with what I observed. Prices are over the top and seller was rude over and over again . I love going to estate sales run by Downsizing Solutions. Now, in LA, you will find a lot of 'liquidation' companies out there few know their stuff like these guys. Most recently, I went to a house in Torrance where they had hundreds of vintage tin toys, some still in boxes. They were priced fairly, I probably got a deal on a few. Vintage and mid-century furniture, cookware, first-edition books and such. I talked to the owner at the last sale, Phil, and he said he's been doing these sales for more than 10 years, all over the LA area--from the harbor to the Valley and some other off-the-beaten-path locales. He had some pretty wild stories too about the some of the more interesting finds in some of their more recent sales. You can run into some odd personalities at these things, but considering myself a bit of a weekend estate sale warrior, I find that they are professional and knowledgeable, but also fun. Everything is priced reasonably for serious buyers (like my husband) and everyone else looking to find something unique or from a different era (like me). If I ever have need to run an estate sale from my own home, these are definitely the guys I'm calling. read more

We purchase from dozens of estate sales on the westside each year and never dealt with Phil, till today. We walked in the last hour of his sale and could not believe this guys hostility. I don't write bad reviews unless what happens is completely unacceptable. This will be my first and last time ever dealing with this guy. He threw the unpriced items at his employee and treated me like a piece of human garbage. Rude to my wife, rude to his staff and rude to his customers. Loud, obnoxious, abusive, disrespectful and hostile. It was insane. He can respond as to how every negative review is wrong, but it is HIS behavior that is abhorrent. And no, I didn't haggle, nor was I demanding whatsoever. All I tried to do was hand him $140. I never met this awful man till today, so he has no reason to believe I'm difficult. They all know us; Tall Rob, Amy from Handled, Lloyd Gordon, Diana from Pacific Estates, Barbara Dawson, Gene From Westside, Monica from Vintique, AES etc. We are kind and reasonable people who do this for pleasure and we don't need this ridiculous abuse. Now here comes his typical response where he tries to discredit everything said about him, but the many reviews speak for themselves. He will tell you how much money he makes and how everyone lines up to see his sales. Well, that's not the issue here. The fact of the matter is he acts like an insane person and his behavior is terrifying. No Phil, we are not wrong here, we are your customers and are polite, pleasant and willing to purchase. We are not trolls and we have nothing personal against you and your company. But running these sales is your damn job! You need to figure out a way not abuse your customers and make a hostile work environment for your employees. Whatever you do, don't allow this person into your home and do not attend his sales. I was shocked at how horribly rude and despicable the man who was running the sale was. The man I am speaking of, Phil, the owner. The first time I noticed him was when he stormed through the hallway, screaming, "Who the FUCK is watching this room?!" He then began berating an employee in front of everyone, reducing her to tears, which was very unprofessional, to say the least...and very humiliating for the young lady. We then watched as he answered each and every customer that approached him, with sarcasm and downright disgust. He acted offended every time someone asked him how much an unmarked item cost and he was beyond rude anytime someone decided not to get anything. He talked down to elderly people, ridiculed people who didn't speak the language well, rolled his eyes and told us, "Welcome to my world", after he dealt with a very pleasant older couple by yelling at them and pounding their items with another item he held in his hand, nearly breaking it. As for myself, he demanded I put everything on the table, got mad when I put EVERYTHING on the table, glared at me and rolled his eyes when I told him I didn't want something after he told me the price, screamed at an unseen employee to "COME GET THIS AND PUT IT BACK", and stared talking so rudely that we were inclined to tell him to "be nice". At which point he threw his hands up and said "BYE, GET OUT". He lost a sale worth over $300 with me and I will certainly never attend any of his sales again. His behavior was inexcusable. Everyone was walking out of there shaking there heads and talking about what an "asshole" that guy was. His employees simply agreed and said he treats all of them like this routinely. Shame on him. At the end of the day, I feel sorry for the the family who hired them. They likely will make a lot less than they should with their downsizing sale because I cannot imagine we were the only ones who chose not to do business with this man. read more

Worst Estate Sale Co ever!!! Came out to their sale in the Rain today. My fault for not reading they required face masks, not sure why, but Ok. Asked if they have them for their customers since I didnt have one and they are the ones requiring them. They do, but for a fee. Are you kidding me!!!! This should have been a great sale-the owner had nice stuff and took good care of it. Unfortunately, we were literally followed into every room, and closely watched while we looked at (not even touched) things. The prices were very high--about two thirds of retail. I would prefer to buy new, in that case. The owner was, as usual, losing his temper with someone-this time a would- be buyer. She chose not to buy, of course. There are a few estate sales I absolutely love to go to because of the people who run it. Phil at downsizing solutions tries very hard to sell absolutely everything in the house that he can and yet he is still very fair and honest with the customers. His staff is constantly re-organizing and condensing everything in the house to make it easier to shop and sell all of your loved ones belongings. I found Phil and Downsizing Solutions when Covid first started. At this time, the sales were made online via Facebook. I really like his Estate Sales as he has fantastic vintage finds at fair prices. Once he started to go back in person, I came out to support him. I always felt Phil made sure that everyone felt safe with the Covid restrictions, was respected equally and offered fair prices. So this is a review as someone who hired Phil to liquidate and estate for a client of mine. I'm a realtor in Los Angeles with 18 years of experience. I come across situations where an estate must be liquidated about once per year and as a result I have worked with other liquidation companies in Los Angeles. There are many options out there but I can assure you that you will be hard pressed to find someone who will maximize your sales value in the shortest time possible. Phil works very efficiently and gets the job done. The estate I was dealing with had a very eclectic mix of items.
