    Raspberry peach galette
    Kyle C.

Wow.... I still think about the raspberry and peach galette when they were at the ferry building and can still taste it. I was visiting from New Jersey and grew up in Brooklyn so I know pastries... like the back of my hand. These were real deal galettes and they were wrapped in a soft yet crispy perfectly cooked dough. I tell EVERYONE who visits San Fransisco to visit this place, their is a couple gems on that list that I will not forget. The Dough is perfect to take on the go and doesn't fall apart in your hand but is still FILLED with raspberry and peach . Every bite was bursting with flavor and didn't lack or have dry spots of just dough. Nothing worse than biting into a pastry and getting all bread! I can't wait to come back to the Bay Area and bite into another one of these bad boys! A must try if you are at the ferry building !!

Our first order was crab for Christmas Eve and it came packed with claw shaped crackers and a wonderful recipe idea for left overs: CRAB CAKES! Our second order was the fresh catch of the week : Petrale Sole. Beautiful fillets cleaned and ready, also came loaded with four amazing recipes to try from. I ended up making Sole Meuniere and it was delicious. Can't wait for more deliveries and to try local fish in my area. These guys are the BEST.

With Fresh Catch, it's (often) local fisher-people that they receive the goods from. I've also had clam and mussels from Washington and Soft Shell Shrimp from Louisiana (which was flash frozen on the boat it was picked up). I love (1) helping the local seafood community, (2) the gorgeous freshness of the seafood (my first order was Tomales Bay oysters that we ate on the half shell with champagne, it was a beautiful Wednesday...), (3) the ease in which I get my order (Hub Point 15 minutes from the house for the win!), (4) being able to choose half orders and full orders, (5) the fact that this is non-subscription, so I get to choose whether I want to participate every week. I'll mention that they do have home deliveries as an option as well! I think this is a wonderful way to support our locals and eat healthy! Also - a great way to try new seafood out!

But now that I'm trying to get a little more plant-based, I have a little more motivation these days, plus I have this neat canvas bag I got for free from the Halal Guys at 53rd and 6th in Manhattan. So now I can carry produce and compete with all those elderly Chinese women with their flimsy pink bags. Oh yes, that last Chinese eggplant is MINE, old lady! I actually come here for the produce I never see at Safeway or even Whole Foods like Romanesco zucchini. Y'know, the big gray-green ones with the prominent ribbing and nutty taste. No inappropriate jokes please. I also come here to get at least a couple of bunches of Chinese long beans and those silky-firm white peaches. I have to say I have no problem filling up my Halal Guys bag with fresh goodies because the vendors here always have quality produce (see my photo gallery). It's worth coming just for the free samples but expect to get an elbow in the face from the more aggressive cheapskates. Nothing is ever free, is it? The market fits snugly into the ground floor of the Crocker Galleria every Thursday from 11AM to 3PM (plus Tuesdays during the summer). Come early if you want your pick of the freshest produce, but get your stinking hands off my Romanesco zucchini. That's mine!

The lawn is always green and beautiful, perfect for letting my fur baby run around and play (or potty) and you will always see people enjoying the space, stretched out reading or talking with friends or just soaking up the peace. One of my favorite things about Union square is the art. The giant hearts are iconic in San Francisco and they're always being repainted and reimagined by different artists, so no matter how many times you come here, you will always see something new. I've seen so many versions over the years but I still stop to look at them every time I'm here because there is always something new. The hearts the statues, the occasional pop-up installations or performances, the square always feels alive. There is also always something going on. On my last visit here there were ping pong tables set up everywhere with people playing. I saw juggling classes being offered and arts programs for kids with people gathered around having a good time. There was a reading area and books brought in on carts. They even still had up there holiday backdrop that looks like it was put there just for people to use for the perfect insta shot. There are plenty of tables and benches scattered around so it's easy to grab a seat and stay a while. Even if you're just passing through and you need to rest your dogs for a few minutes, this is the perfect spot. I spent more than a few afternoons here people watching or enjoying a snack from the little stand nearby. It's really a great place to spend some time and a must do if you are in San Francisco. On the weekends you will find people trying to usher you onto bus tours or maybe sell you souvenirs, but you might also witness an event or see straight performers so you never really know what you're going to get. This is a place for visitors and locals wiith nice surroundings where you can really get a feel for and just to take in the city.
