I began attending Downtown Desert Yoga when they were located at their old studio. I loved it, with the exception of the nasty bathroom, this studio was great. As of late the new studio has gone downhill fast. The studio itself is small, strangely set up and does not get anywhere near hot enough. The draft can be felt from the floor and the high ceilings aren't helping. When I attend hot yoga I expect it to be hot not lukewarm. The place is filthy. How hard can be to Swifter mop the floor between classes or at least wipe up the sweat with some disinfectant before the next class comes in? I wish someone would take the time to clean up a little between classes. It's pretty hard to keep your drishti when you have your hand in a puddle of someone else's sweat. The one restroom is disgusting, worse than a bar restroom. I attend classes at this studio frequently, almost daily, and the restroom has been out of toilet paper for two days. A couple months ago vomit was sprayed on the toilet seat and it was at least a week before it was cleaned up. The one shower is located in the restroom so you can imagine the problems this can create. There are two changing rooms, which is just not enough for the amount of people that attend a class. In the winter the outside temperature is warmer than the temperature of this restroom. The mats that are available for rent are falling apart and smell like feet. I had to borrow a mat once and I went home feeling like I could've contracted a staph infection for that dirty mat. The cost of a membership to Downtown Desert Yoga is definitely overpriced but unfortunately there are no other options in Las Cruces for hot yoga. If you're able to take a class given by either Jane, Holly, Monet, Jacklyn or Diedra then you're in for a great class. Just remember to use the restroom before you get there or bring your own toilet paper and toilet seat covers also some hand sanitizer and maybe some disinfectant wipes for good measure and for your own safety bring your own mat. read more

I started doing yoga at DDY about a year ago with the intention of practicing for a few weeks in order to help correct some of my posture imbalances, in addition to rehabbing some injuries I had from other sports. Within a few classes I was hooked on yoga, not only due to the benefits from practice, but by the enthusiasm and attitude of the instructors that manifests in the environment and atmosphere of DDY. I began to see the physical benefits of doing hot yoga very quickly, and my lower back pain, posture problems and other injuries have all improved dramatically since starting. In addition to the physical benefits, I always feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and content at the end of a class, and judging by the smiles I see when Im leaving, most other students feel the same way. The instructors at DDY are great, each one knew and greeted me by name when I checked in fairly quickly after starting. They all know the various poses extremely well, and are able to offer lots of insight into the goal of each pose to help you get the most out of your practice. Additionally, they regularly give students individualized tips or corrections to improve their practice. Each instructor has their own style, but with all of them there is an attitude of support and encouragement regardless of whether you are more experienced and pushing yourself to your limit, new and taking things slowly or somewhere in between. Another reviewer commented on the new facilities, and I do agree there was a point when the hot yoga classes weren't getting hot enough. This was in the middle of the winter, and I commented on it to an instructor, and the problem has been fixed for a couple of months now. Regarding the facilities and bathroom being dirty, I rarely use the bathroom while there, but the times I have it has always been very clean. Overall I highly recommend DDY to anyone who already practices yoga, or is looking to start new. read more

Let me preference this with first saying I have only been doing yoga for just under a year and have only been to a few other studios in Santa Fe and Las Vegas. Downtown Desert Yoga has been an awesome place to learn! It is a very warm hearted, relaxed, clean studio with calm knowable instructors. Having been a surfer in San Francisco I have found DDY to provide me the community to practice with, much like my surfing buddies. People chill and talk before and after class with very little judgment and with an easy flow. I started with a pretty beat up body from an endo on my motorcycle and my 55 years of fun, but all of the instructors have allowed me to work at my own pace with lots of positive support and just the right amount of motivation. If you are passing through Las Cruces and you just feel the need for some yoga this is the place to come. If you live in Las Cruces and are looking for that special studio give it try. read more

I originally came across DDY through a simple Google search after my trainer suggested yoga as a way to work on my mobility and as a way to improve orthopedic issues I've had for a few years. My (lack of) flexibility has always been an inside joke between friends and me, so I never considered myself a "yoga" candidate but I am so happy that I started regularly attending classes here. I can honestly say that the classes have helped me out more than years of chiropractor visits. The instructors have been incredibly patient and friendly and will help you modify poses to fit your skill level. The classes are challenging without being intimidating and there's a fairly diverse group of clientele. If you're even remotely on the fence as to whether to try it out, it's worthwhile to stop in the studio for a few classes. read more

I visited this studio a couple times during my visit to Las Cruces. I normally attend hot yoga classes in Albuquerque. The instructor was friendly and did a fine job of guiding the class through the one hour session. My issue was with the cleanliness of this studio. During one of the poses I looked down at my foot and there was a dead fly stuck to my toe. I later placed my hand in a pool of someone's else's sweat and I wasn't the only one. Early in the class i overheard someone say, "Ew, I just stepped in sweat." I guess by Las Cruces standards this place is great but I've practiced in many other studios and I'd have to say this was the worst. read more

Since the time I attended my first class I have felt so welcome at this studio. When I first started, yoga was fairly new for me but all the instructors were patient and walked me through each pose when needed. I have now been attending classes for more than a year! My favorite classes are the Yin and Restorative classes. The classes are held in a cozy building with hardwood floors and in some classes you are given wonderful essential oils! read more

I've been meaning to get in shape for forever but I hate the traditional work out model. After being a gymnast for years, yoga ended up being the perfect way for me to get back in shape. Downtown Desert Yoga has many classes to fit your specific needs. The staff is welcoming. I absolutely love the meditation and Yin yoga class on Sunday mornings. The lunchtime community classes work great if you're trying to squeeze in a workout during lunch. You have to try a Hot 26 class! read more
