The staff is very nice and checks on you consistently throughout your meal. The food is spectacular. Service and atmosphere brought it all home. 5 stars "We have to bring our friends". So we did on a Saturday night 5-6pm prime time. 2 orders of chicken fingers, fish & chips, and i had the fried shrimp. All fried dont judge. The plates arrived. All fried item were the same color. Dark dirty brown. I looked at other tables. Porkchops and appitizers all same color only comes down to old dirty oil. Shame on you Eats. I question the staff. Didn't anyone think the food was NOT golden like last week? Appetizers, fish, shrimp, chicken, chops... different cooking times, one color. The slaw... served warm. One bite and I came to the conclusion someone didnt finish the recipe. Last step- add flavor. "We have Potential!" Should be your motto. Why? Underneath the dark brown crust was a perfect shrimp, chicken finger, and fish. The shrimp was moist with a pop. Bad oil night? Good place, especially given the area. For downtown Dallas, GA, it's an up-class Americana place: the menu is burgers, fries, salads, sandwiches, tacos, etc. The food is well done. They have numerous gluten-free options, and they're careful and particular about not mixing gluten-free and gluten foods. Grateful for their particular care. Portion size is fairly large; we ate there for a late lunch, and I didn't eat the rest of the day. I recommend the Frisco burger; it was delicious, good-sized. Sweet potato fries were great, too. Service is gracious and kind; our server was very on top of keeping our drinks filled, answering questions, and doing it all with a kind attitude. Atmosphere is cool, overall. The building itself clearly used to be some kind of workshop or garage or something, and they've kept enough of that old style and mixed it with a hefty overhaul featuring light, wood, and black trim. The dining room is one big box room lined with booths on one side, a bar on the other, and tables in between. Can be a bit loud, but normal for a restaurant. We went at 2 in the afternoon, and it was still half full, so I imagine you'll expect to wait if you come at peak times. Sign of something good going on here, right? Kids get a menu with a maze and a drawing their can color; they get a three-pack of crayons. Nice touch. Bathrooms are two single-seaters for the whole restaurant, so you might need to wait a moment if you have to go. I didn't see any baby-changing stations, but there is room on the bathroom counter. Prices are a bit high but fair. With a non-alcoholic drink, you're looking at about $20/person before tip. It was the two of us and a child, and our bill was $55 plus tip. All in all a good deal, especially for Downtown Dallas, which could use some upscaling. Worth supporting this business if you like good food, want to help local Dallas, and just generally want an enjoyable time. I wasn't blown away, but I was impressed and pleased. My wife ordered a burger that came out cooked well on a fantastic butter bun. She changed up the side from fries to fresh fruit and found there was an upcharge that was not mentioned to us. We tried Downtown Cafe for the first time for a weekend lunch and enjoyed ourselves. We ordered a patty melt w/ fries, salmon BLT w/ side salad, and banana pudding for dessert. All of it was great, cooked properly, and nicely presented. Our server was very nice and efficient. The place was clean and the vibe was relaxed. My only complaint, and I know that it's a difficult one to control, was the flies; they were a real problem at our table and I saw lots of other people swatting them at their table. Tonight was our first time at Downtown Eats. It will not be our last. First impression walking up, the building is well kept with its own parking (a bonus being close to downtown Dallas). Inside there is a good size bar area and plenty of seating. The decor is sparse, but clean. The host was nice and we were sat immediately. Our waitress came right over to get our drinks, great service from her as well. My husband ordered the downtown burger with American cheese and bacon and fries. I ordered the mozzarella chicken sandwich with fries. My husband's burger was delicious with crispy bacon and cooked how he likes it. The fries were wonderful with the perfect seasoning and a good crunch on them. The star of the show, though, was my chicken! The fried chicken was seasoned perfectly, super crunchy, and still juicy. Add provolone and mozz sticks and I was in heaven. My husband stated "this is the best chicken sandwich I have ever had". As a born and raised southerner that is your best stamp of approval! I've eaten here three times and each experience has been good. The atmosphere is casual (maybe a bit loud due to the size and arrangement of the restaurant) and the food is delicious. Every restaurant employee I've interacted with has been friendly and eager to serve. Dallas was ready for a restaurant that had something other than the same tired franchised American or fried bar food. Downtown Eats is hometown enough not to scare away those less adventurous patrons but interesting enough to attract foodies like myself. My favorite has been the Greuben Sandwich - a play on the classic Reuben with fried grouper instead of the traditional corned beef. The sweet potato fries make a perfect side and somehow the Diet Coke with grenadine tastes better here than anywhere else. I believe 65% of their December late lunch business comes directly from Dallas's world renowned course- White Oak park. After beating Wesley and Dustin Hardy on the links we were treated to a delicious meal of perfectly made Smash Burgers and Hush Puppies coated in "DE"'s unique sauce. The food was 10/10!! Nice little eatery near Downtown Dallas. The menu is unique for the area, which is a welcomed commodity. The service feels small-town which is unlike the name. The most Downtown feature is the sticker price. Since restaurants come & go in the area it may be necessary.
