I was meeting a friend for breakfast and looking for somewhere to go in the area. After utilizing the Yelp search tool to be my personal guide to the restaurants Powder Springs, I decided to head over to Hiram to try out Big Doug's. After seeing the pictures of everyone else's food I had to go. Big Doug's was super easy to find and the parking was easily accessible (even after I missed the first turn in). Once parked, we headed inside and were met with a smiling car who welcomed us into Big Doug's, confirmed our party size (2), and immediately took us to our booth. First off... kudos on the stellar service. I'm talking top tier welcome, pleasant greetings, and a warm closing. The young lady was AMAZING! As I headed to my booth I was captivated by the size of Big Doug's as this place is hugeeeeeeee. However, though it is huge, there is a warm, cozy atmosphere that reminds you of a mom and pop diner in a small town Hallmark film. LoL Once seated, we were greeted by Haven and Haven made sure to continue with the stellar service that stayed at the door. I loveeeeeeeee Haven. She was so pleasant. Very warm, attentive to the needs of the table, and had a bubbly personality that was ideal for a Saturday morning interaction. Haven is the waitress you read about in reviews but never get to meet in real life... Well, I did. Ha!!!!!! The menu fits the vibe and provides a variety of home cooked classics. Me being me, I decided on French Toast and Hot Links with a Sweet Tea... Let's talk food... French Toast: Warm, crispy edges, chewy center, perfectly made, amazing flavor profile. I ordered one but now I know to order four next time because it was amazing. I'll use all my carbs for the day on these. Hot Links: I told Haven to tell the cook that I needed them dark like me and they understood the assignment. My hot links were crunchy on each side but meaty and juicy in the middle. Oh yes, these links were done right. Sweet Tea: Listen... Two Words: More Please!!! It was so good I needed a cup to go... trust... if you know me (or my reviews) you know I don't play about my sweet tea. Big Doug's sweet tea can be put in a bottle and sold at the front, because I need four of these as well. All in all, my experience at Big Doug's was amazing. Reminds me of the family style home cooking we would get at truck stop restaurants. Just regular meals with meat and sides. Nothing was much seasoned and I love seasonings. The salad isn't considered a side so you pay extra. Fried chicken was tasty but only lukewarm. Cornbread was a huge disappointment and even butter couldn't save it. Strawberry cobbler was more strawberry and tasted like it was on the warmer just a wee bit long. Maybe ice cream would have helped..... Their iced tea was top notch and the server was very nice. Wow! What a great restaurant. If I lived near it, I'd be going at least once a week. It's hard to find good, fresh, home style food. Everything was delicious. The baby Lima beans and green beans were full of flavor, and the fried squash was really good. Steamed cabbage was perfectly cooked. Topped off with a big biscuit, it was an amazing meal! Southern favorites served with southern hospitality! Today was our first visit to Big Doug's. Service was excellent, even during the busy lunch rush. Our server was lovely, attentive and sweet. My boyfriend had the 2 meat and three sides. He liked the chicken and the mac n cheese but wondered if the potatoes were instant rather than homemade and wished they had come with some kind of gravy. My burger was great. The bacon was especially crispy and good. Yum! Sometimes southern food establishments serve super greasy food. I did not feel like the food at Doug's was too greasy at all. The restaurant itself was cutely decorated. We even noticed the bathrooms were particularly well appointed. All in all, despite not being a super huge fan of southern cuisine, I would eat here again. This was our first time visiting Doug's Place and it will definitely NOT be our last!!! What a charming restaurant! The staff is extremely proficient and super nice. They told us our wait time would be about 20 minutes (on a Sunday around noon), but they sat us in about 5 minutes. They are quick to turn tables. I ordered the pancakes with eggs. My husband had the meat and 3. We both enjoyed our meals and can't wait to go back and try more. read more

Upon arrival, I was greeted by smiles and welcoming gestures. This is always great . Who wants to feel uncomfortable? I'm only giving 4 stars for now because I read that it's a breakfast and brunch spot . It is indeed that , but I didn't realize it's not served at the same time. I arrived on a Saturday around 10am . The menu looked great , but I'm not a huge traditional breakfast fan. I don't eat red meat , grits or scrambled eggs . Therefore , my assessment of breakfast wouldn't be fair . I'll definitely return for brunch . Since I was there , I ordered a small piece of country fried chicken and (1) pancake with orange juice . The waitress offered water also because there's no refills on orange juice . I'm glad I ordered only one pancake because it covered the plate . The pancake had a very good taste and it wasn't too salty or doughy. Usually online my edges crispy but I didn't ask . It was still a good pancake. There were a lot of customers but we weren't cramped in the space . The place looked very nice , clean and the ambiance was fitting for the restaurant. The waitress was very polite, personable and friendly. She informed me on when brunch is served and that I should return . I definitely feel like I should give this place another chance by trying the food on the brunch menu. read more

It is a beautiful Saturday morning and would not miss my morning breakfast at Big Doug's . It was worth the wait to be seated and see everyone hard at work. I know they work hard and always on their feet to take care of you the customer and make your visit and meal a pleasant one and to do this day in and day out. And my favorite server Chloe But all of the servers and the staff are the heartbeat of the restaurant because they make it come together and alive. If you're planning on ordering a meat and 3, it is one of the best places around in Hiram. But I ordered hush puppies and they tasted very old like they were cooked at lunchtime. My wife got the baby back rib, which is really not the correct description ( in my opinion) and they were not good at all. They were extremely tough and chewy really uneditable. I would just recommend some other dish besides the rib. But the service is always top-notch, and the restaurant was always very clean and family friendly. read more

My husband and I ate at Big Doug's about two weeks ago. The greeter was warm and friendly. The ambiance was unique and inviting. We were seated promptly and given menus. My husband chose country fried steak, sweet potato casserole, and cream corn. I ordered the fried chicken, turnips, and macaroni and cheese. He ordered sweet tea, and we both chose cornbread. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his lunch. I tasted his sweet potato casserole, and it was perfect! I didn't enjoy all of my meal. Since my review on Google appeared as if it was taken down, I'll share it again on this platform. Hey y'all, former Big Dougs employee here, I'm really not one to try and cause issues, and I've actually tried to stay silent about all of this. I moved on, got a better job, and was just happy to put it behind me. However after my Google review appears to have been removed and after someone in a management position publicly said that "nothing was bad about my last job except my attitude," I feel like it's only fair to finally share my experience. Especially with new job listings being posted. I feel as if people deserve to know what they're signing up for. When I first started there, I worked hard. I covered shifts, stayed late, did everything asked of me, and genuinely cared about the place, frankly stayed that way up until the end. Over time, things changed. Communication became almost nonexistent. My boss at the time was fired simply for saying there was no communication. To me, that said a lot. There was a day I had just come back from the bathroom and went into the server station to return the paper towel key. The front-of-house manager came in angry, told me to get out and clean tables, and then put her hands on me and pushed me out. That's not something any employee should experience. Nothing was ever done about it. Another time, I calmly stood up for myself when something was handled in a disrespectful way. I wasn't rude, just direct and I was told to apologize shortly thereafter. Being older shouldn't give anyone the right to talk down to people with no consequences. I also once asked for help in our group chat on a chaotic shift, and instead of addressing the situation, the owner called me and my boss at the time into the office the next day and said, "If you don't like how we do things, find a new job." That's the kind of leadership employees had to deal with. They constantly watched and listened through the cameras. Not for safety, but to pick apart workers and micromanage. A lot of people were afraid to speak up because of how things were handled. I've also been called lazy, but which I feel as if that was unprofessional as well. The appropriate way to address that would be to have a one on one conversation about performance. I however, didn't think of myself as lazy; I worked 5 days a week, stayed over when it was needed, worked doubles due to no shows, on top of being enrolled with online school. And then there was the day an employee got into a car accident and couldn't make it in. Instead of expressing concern or understanding, our owner responded in the group chat saying "Guys, do y'all know what Uber is? You're telling us you don't have a ride half the people in the kitchen call Uber every day because they don't have a ride but they come to work." While there is a chance this was not directed at the individual who got into the accident, it was sent immediately after he had stated the accident had occurred. That was incredibly unprofessional. Teenagers don't always have money, or the ability to Uber alone. When you hire minors, that's a risk you knowingly take. When I told the kid after he apologized that he didn't need to apologize, my message was deleted and I was promptly removed from the group chat. At that point, I knew it was time for me to fully walk away. And I did. It If it were just one person causing issues or complaining, I'd understand, that happens anywhere. But when it's your a majority of your team clearly unhappy, as a leader, your job is to listen, to step in, and to fix the problem. I truly wish everyone involved the best I just want the truth out there, especially after being told that "my attitude" was the only problem. That wasn't the case. Not even close. read more

Got a chance to visit Big Doug's Place for breakfast this week in Hiram, Georgia for a sneak preview and all I can say is wow. Place is absolute beautiful on the inside with tons of history in pics inside and also antiques. Also gotta say love the back room that pays tribute to our nations armed forces. Awesome stuff. (Took lots of pics but will wait to post at a later date once more people get the chance to see the place for themselves) Breakfast was good stuff. I've eaten here several times and the food is fairly decent. However, today I came here to get breakfast. I waited over 30 minutes for a table, which is not unexpected on a Sunday morning, so I wasn't too upset about that. However, once seated, my waitress informed me that it would be at least another 30 minutes if I wanted to order breakfast because it was "cooked to order" but that I wouldn't have to wait if I wanted to order lunch. Keep in mind this was shortly after 11 AM. The food is not that good to wait that long. I can go to Waffle House and get breakfast that's "cooked to order" in about 10 minutes without the wait. This seems like a fundamental flaw in their system. So I left with an empty belly. Also let me add the waiting area was full of parties, waiting anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes, yet there were empty tables all over the restaurant. Best Biscuits in Paulding! We are also fans of BigUns Biscuits, but if you can't make it out there, this location will offer you the same biscuits & more menu items. I would recommend taking anyone who wants "country" or southern cuisine. Its nice to also get both lunch and/or breakfast items. The catch is parking. The place was absolutely packed. It was a 25 minute wait however it was definitely worth it. I would show a picture of our plates, but we were so hungry. Everything has been wiped up clean. I have a western omelette. delicious with the butter biscuit and grits on the side and because it was Sunday I just had to get myself a cinnamon roll! It was delicious. My husband had the country fried steak, pinto beans, fried okra, which by the way was not greasy whatsoever, which was excellent! And lastly, the sweet potato soufflé which was a dessert onto itself. This place is alright. We finally went after a few months of it being open. There was a wait so we sat outside for about 20/30 minutes. The server was nice. You can tell there are a bunch of younger kids as servers. The food was ok as well. I honestly thought the food would be better which is disappointing. We love to support local, but I feel like I might as well just drive to Cracker Barrel for a southern cooked meal :-( overall, definitely give this place a try! You'll love it or hate it!
