Pros: pretty sure they can do anything you need. And it's a great central location. Cons : every time I go in there, either they ignore me completely or if they do say something at some point, they'll say it'll be a few minutes but it always drags on and on - I usually just end up leaving. Just let us know how long it'll be... for real. That's cool. At least we can plan to wait, come back for the keys, or come at a different time. read more

Called the downtown office asked about getting my car key cut.... was told "we don't do that car" and then the call went dead. Called back because I had a follow up question. Call was answered and then disconnected. Tried again, answered, disconnected. I thought about the voice on the first call.... kinda rude, curt, short and then "click". So I called one last time. Answered, almost got out a greeting then it hung up again.... Four calls, Four abrupt hang ups. Coinsidence??? IDK. Just putting this out there for others to know. read more

Unbelievable feat of picking the lock on my antique pre 1860 Japanese Tansu lockbox when it was mailed to me with the key accidentally locked inside(!) Was referred to this old school locksmith when another locksmith felt like helping me out with a broken combination lock on an exterior gate was too much trouble for him. Downtown Locksmith was fantastic. They clearly know their stuff and know how to go with the flow. After talking with me on the phone they sent someone out to take a look at the lock, didn't get bent out of shape when I wasn't around to discuss the job with them, just talked to my son and left me an estimate. My son comments the technician was "super knowledgeable." They responded promptly when I contacted them by email to schedule the job, came when they said they would, and installed a brand new lock that works perfectly. We couldn't be more delighted. Great Locksmith, I had trouble rekeying a lock cylinder at Ace hardware and they failed miserably. The key was getting stuck in the cylinder and wasn't easy to turn to unlock. I took my cylinders to Downtown Locksmith and they have the cylinders working like new! I appreciate the quality of workmanship. I will be back next time I have a rekeying job. I've been in to this shop about 4 times for various minor needs, all things that could be done on-site and that did not require a house call, but I can vouch that on every occasion service was courteous, competent, and fast, and I was never made to feel rushed. They have also been patient and generous in sharing their knowledge when I had a number of questions that involved locks and security but that offered no business prospects for them. Just this morning one of the staff worked up a quite a sweat removing an incredibly tough cable bike lock which required use of power tools in addition to some strenuous manual effort, and would not accept a penny of payment. On yet another more recent visit, they could have easily sold me a new car key with auto-lock transponder -thing - but went to fairly extensive effort to salvage mine, replace the battery with the one I had brought with me, and would not accept payment as I had supplied the battery, telling me "Just keep us in mind for future occasions." . If and when I have more extensive locksmith needs, I will go back to Downtown Locksmith on the east side of 7th Ave, just south of Roosevelt. I also like that they have been in business a long time in Phoenix and that they have a storefront location as opposed to the wandering mobile smithies of no fixed location or reputation. read more

Incredibly helpful, professional service here! I just moved to Phoenix. During the move, keys to my file cabinet got locked in the file cabinet. Sadly, not the first time I've done that. Anyway, i called them on a friday and asked if they could help. I went down there with the lock number but that didn't narrow it down so there were a few options. Andrew made me two keys but only charged me for one ($11.50) and told me that if they didn't work, to bring the cabinet down there and they'd figure it out. Well, neither key worked. So today I brought the cabinet down there. Andrew spend about twenty minutes working on, eventually figured it out, and went inside to get a new key. He opened the cabinet, handed me the key, and told me to have a nice day. I asked about payment and he said there was no additional charge. Friendly, professional service gets 5 stars. I don't often need a locksmith, but when I do this is who i will call. read more

I have one key! Maybe that doesn't excite you but I have 6 doors and 11 keys . I know the math doesn't add up. But Gary came over and re-keyed all my locks to one key. Much easier and less confusing. He repaired the lock to our back door that I was only able to open from the inside. Did I mention that he made me a key for my car that was less expensive than the dealers? I live in a 3rd. generation, 1928 Historic home and with all credit due to Downtown locksmith I was able to keep and repair the orgiinal lock AND door, not replace.. which 2 other locksmith requested. With a fraction of the price, all characteristics were still in place! Phewww! I set the appt. the evening before, they were at my front door the time scheduled, lock was immediately fixed and the locksmith was very courteous to fix minor things he noticed wrong with my door jam as well. Solid, local, and trustworthy business. Came here a long time ago to get some duplicate keys made. At the time, I lived in a 90 year old historic apartment in Encanto-Palmcroft and the door had the original locks. Trying to find a key blank at any of the normal spots (Home Depot, etc) was impossible which is how I ended up here. They cut a couple keys for me but when I got home, they didn't work. Stopped back in and they knew why I had come back even before I could explain. The key cutting machine was not calibrated/reset for my keys so the cuts were just about a millimeter or so deeper than they should have been. They realized that right after I left, apologized, and made new working keys for me. Super friendly, knowledgeable, took ownership of the issue and resolved. Thanks! read more

This is the place to go for key copies. I would assume the rest of their services are great too. I needed 2 keys copied, and they were friendlier, faster, more accurate, and cheaper than Home Depot. Coping 2 keys is not a huge money maker for them, I was treated as their most valued customer. I will go no where else. read more
