It was outstanding and the first live music we have heard in 2021! We had never been there before and came in from NJ especially for this show, but they will be on our radar going forward...

It's run by excellent people and one my favorite venues in the city. Swing through on a Friday and definitely check their schedule for upcoming events. The Roots and Ruckus nights are a favorite as a bluegrass musician. The connected school is well-known in the community of musicians here, and for good reason. I have many friends that teach here and I can't speak highly enough of that quality instruction you will get if you decide to take a class. Jalopy is super solid with their instructor curation and you can find everything from large group classes to one on one private instruction. They also sell stringed instruments and supplies if you're so inclined!

Terrific music, an amazing, attractive and talented cast, along with a riveting script and story!…read moreWhat more could one ask for? My big sis got me and Rus tickets to see this play for Christmas. Rus and I were a bit jaded after seeing Lysistrata, but Stick Fly changed our minds about Broadway again. This was truly an emotional and attention grabbing performance. Usually when I go to see a live play/musical there are 15 minute sessions in which I zone out because the show has become too boring or over-the-top for my attention...This didn't happen to me once during Stick Fly. It's going to grab your attention from beginning to end. Loved the entire cast and it was great to see Mekhi Phifer on Broadway! Added bonus: Lala Anthony (Carmelo Anthony's wife--Go Knicks!) was there to do an interview with the cast and Alicia Keys after the show. Rosario Dawson and Jesse Martin also studded the audience. Stars, Knicks and VJ's agree...STICK FLY IS AWESOME and will make you fall in love with Broadway!

AMAZING!!!!!! I don't think that is the word that can truly describe this funny, captivating play…read more The cast definitely brings the characters to life and have you thinking about some of your family craziness, the stereotypes you have, and wonder what other secrets are lurking. They act their butts off!! They probably couldn't do that w/o a well written play to begin with...Lydia R. Diamond is in the right business!! Condola Rashad, & Ruben Santiago-Hudson characters were my favs in the play. The story line pulls you in and keeps you wanting to know whats going to happen. Yes, Alicia Keys is on of the producers...however if she wasn't it would still be a GREAT play that all people of ALL COLORS should see. We all got a family, they all have secrets and messed up attitudes about any and everything...it's just nice to forget about your own family drama and watch it unfold elsewhere.

Unable to compare the two, I thought Kayla was spectacular.  Supporting actors were great too, especially Skye Dakota Turner, who played young Anna-Mae (Tina as a child). Talk about a powerful voice and a bright future ahead of her, wow!   Compared to the movie "What's Love Got To Do With It" starring Angela Bassett, this rendition dove a little deeper with stories of her mother and mentions of two sons in their early days. But, it didn't cover too much on her life with Ike and didn't even touch on her story after her retirement, including her citizenship in Switzerland which would've been interesting.    An odd thing I noticed is that Tina's character was the only one that "sang" every word she uttered (rather than in a speaking voice when not performing a musical number).  Other than that, every scene was enjoyable, especially the opening and closing ones, plus I got to hear all of my favorite songs of hers.  Set design was simple with nothing spectacular, but the vocals and music simply overshadowed it.   TIP: Duration is about 3 hours including a 10 minute intermission.   OVERALL: Tina definitely has a spot in my top three of favorite productions.  My number one is still Jersey Boys.

Spectacular production. Some scenes made us cry, some uplifted us to dance and rejoice. The ending was phenomenal--such a blast of positive energy and emotions. Audience started dancing, that's how contagious the vibe was. We were all singing along and dancing to the timeless songs that were performed, almost concert style. With a Twenty minute intermission, the whole experience lasted a bit less than two hours. You're welcome to step outside for a "'mask break" during intermission. Won a digital Broadway lottery, so we didn't get to pick our seats. Orchestra right, Row L seats 10 & 12 were spectacular--got so lucky! Highly encourage entering the lottery.
