I showed up to my 11:30 am appointment, and the lady at the front desk said it was actually scheduled for 10:30 am; she also said it was confirmed by me. I was so confused. I told her no, I didn't confirm it; I had gotten so busy and sidetracked that I had forgotten. And she said well it shows that you confirmed it on my computer. By then I was even more confused.  Appointment at 10:30 a.m.? Confirmed? I literally thought I was losing my mind.  Standing there in disbelief, I luckily found the voice message from their office stating my appointment was scheduled for 11:30 a.m.!!  I played it out load on my speakerphone so she could hear it.  Then she said, "Oh yeah, that's my voice on your voice message; but it must have been moved to 10:30 am because you didn't confirm it."  I told her I've never had a company do that to me before. She said yeah because we get really busy with a lot of walk-ins. Again I'm confused, I'm here at 11:20 a.m. and I had scheduled my appointment for 11:30 am. So I asked, "Well, can I be considered a walk-in now?" She said no Dr. Berschler is booked for this whole week; you'll need to reschedule.  Who does that to people? Am I literally just a number to their office? Is that how they treat new patients?... Obviously! I would have easily confirmed the appointment if I would have received a message via text or email. However, I had to call the office back; and I just got so busy and sidetracked that forgot. First of all, if you are going to move my appointment without telling me, why not move it to a time that's after 11:30 a.m., not before 11:30 a.m., so that when I show up early for the time I had scheduled I'm not told my appointment has already passed. And why not call me and let me know that you moved my appointment? Better yet when the office is calling to confirm the appointment, why don't they add in the message that the appointment will be cancelled if there is no call back.  Also if you validate parking, it would be nice to let patients know ahead of time so they know where to park! I paid the parking meter for an hour and a half, but I was only there for 10 minutes. Is the unprofessionalism just in Arizona or does this kind of stuff happen in every state nowadays???!!! In addition, while you're sitting in the lobby you can see all the patients that are in the back getting their teeth looked at.  The guy just past the reception wall getting his teeth flossed... kind of gross. No privacy at all for the patient's; it's just one big room back there. read more

I met with Audra and the doctor. It was a really fun energetic space. Everyone there seemed genuinely happy to be working there and were extremely polite and helpful. The team here aren't going to have you doing extra unnecessary treatments which rack up your bill. I can't believe its taken me this long to find such an amazing dental team in Phoenix. Audra was amazing. Amazing service and extremely reasonable pricing. I left paying a $0 copay. This is my favorite dentist ever. My fear and avoidance of the dentist has been building for years. However, I simply couldn't put it off any longer. With trepidation I scheduled an appointment at Downtown Dental and promptly received an email back with available times. I went in not knowing what to expect. Not only had the staff already found my insurance information they made a point to call me by the name I go by rather than my formal name and that put me at ease. I sat down with Heather, the hygienist and she was so warm and friendly that I instantly felt fine confessing to her my fear of the dentist. She allayed my concerns and told me not to worry. There was no guilt trip for not flossing or drinking too much soda, which is always annoying. Then the scary part... the dental work. It was uncomfortable and I hated it, but soon it was over, it wasn't that bad and I felt a thousand times better. Dr. Berschler came over and examined me and pointed out a few cavities we needed to take care of. Then the even scarier part (or so I anticipated)...the price! But I was pleasantly pleased and relieved that the total cost after insurance was literally thousands less than I'd been quoted by a dentist a year ago to take care of my problems. In fact the total cost is very reasonable; this isn't a dentist looking to take advantage of you. I couldn't have been more pleased and delighted at the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone in the office. The convenient downtown location only makes it better. I will never go to another dentist again and I'm actually looking forward to my next appointment. I can't recommend this office enough. read more

This is by far the best Dentist office I have ever been too! I live and work downtown and I always pass by the office on my way to work. One day I ate a piece of candy that broke a crown I have off. I don't have dental insurance so I was freaking out! I called one place and they quoted me $1000 to fix it and I was like no way! My boss said I should stop in this office because he had heard good things about them. When I stopped in Robin was SOOOOOO nice!!! She said they could just glue it back on (which I hadn't thought of DUH!!!) for significantly less money. When I came in for my appointment Dr. Berscheler was very professional and nice. I have a lot of anxiety with dental work and I was relieved to find that he actually realizes that there is a person attached to the tooth he is working on! He is so gentle I swear it was the most painless dental appointment I have ever had both financially and physically. Please do yourself a favor and book an appointment with them ASAP!!!! read more

Get to your appointment on time because they are ready to go by the time you arrive, a great plus. The dental hygienist was super nice and really informative throughout my cleaning. The location is super convenient if you live/work near downtown. It think their prices were fair and they won't try to get you to buy extras that are unnecessary. I've found my dental niche and I'm sticking to it! The decor of the place is very contemporary and pleasing, which gives the place a nice atmosphere once you enter. I never thought I would be so excited about a dental office! I found this place through yelp, and I am so glad I did. The office staff were pleasant, and the place looked modern, not sterile like most dental offices. I have been avoiding going to the dentist for about 2 years because of several bad experiences, including pain and the fear of upselling. Like other people have mentioned, they have modern equipment, including digital X-rays. I have always loathed getting X-rays because of the extreme discomfort, but there was no pain here! The dental hygienist, Angel, was thorough and did a great job cleaning my teeth! She also said a regular cleaning would be fine; I have been told I need "deep cleaning" in the past. The dentist, Dr. Berschler, looked over my teeth at the end, and said "looks fine...I just recommend keeping up the regular cleanings every 6 months". Wow!! I have been a patient for a couple years now. I LOVE my hygienist and she is honestly the only reason I go here. Unfortunately, I will have to find another hygienist because I am so unhappy with the dentist. In my opinion, his work is sloppy. I had a filling done and I felt like he didn't take care to remove only the cavity and simply "dug" a hole in my tooth and slapped a filling over it, which hasn't even lasted a year. The biggest reason I have decided to stop going there is because on my last visit, when it was time for the exam by the dentist, he laid me back and I closed my eyes as I always do, only to feel his breath in my mouth as he proceeded to do his exam. He did not put on a mask and I believe he got me sick. I was in shock honestly and did not know what to say to him or to the other staff members in his office. I was disgusted and eventually angered because I caught a cold after that visit. I will not be going back. read more

Dr. Berschler and his hygienists are great and very professional. They listen to my concerns and answered all my questions and were very polite and professional. The only reason I cannot give them 5 out of 5 is their scheduling is a mess and one of the front office ladies is rude and comes off very condescending. I called to verify an appointment and was told I had one and that it had even been confirmed (I confirmed it via text with a question to ensure it was correct and got no response) but I tried to explain that I just been there a few months ago. I informed her that the last time I was there for a checkup there had been a scheduling error so I added the new appointment to my personal calendar and I didn't see it in there for the day I was confirmed on. Once she looked into my file she noticed that I had been there in July and that I wasn't scheduled until January. No apologies just a 'Oh'. Pretty sorry customer service on her part. read more

Very thorough and do great work whether you're there for a cleaning or something more extensive! Added bonus if you work downtown, you can just walk over to the office! Just had my teeth cleaned and checked here. I would highly recommend this dental office--the hygienist was the best I have ever had! The space was clean and comfortable, the dentist and hygienist were on time, and the office could not have been more convenient for people working downtown. I wasn't looking forward to going to the dentist about a year ago when I scheduled my first visit with Downtown Dental, as I was looking at a fair amount of work, and I figured it wasn't going to be pleasant. However, Dr Berschler and the staff at Downtown Dental have completely turned around my impression of the dental industry. You show up on time, they greet you by name with a smile, and you're seen almost immediately - no kidding, I've been there 4 times now and the wait is always less than a few minutes. They validate parking, have an excellent accounting engine, do fantastic work, and most of the paperwork and confirmations are done online. Dr Ben is an excellent Dentist one of the best I've gone to; he talks to you without pressure and tells you straight up what your issues are for your oral health. He has a great personality and his staff are wonderful. The decor in the office is wonderful too. I've been going since he opened and was one of the first patients. I won't go anywhere else and the trip downtown is worth it to me. All my sign up was electronic and very fast, he takes my insurance and even if I didn't have any I'd still go there. so, first time ever visiting Downtown Phoenix Dental, the staff were friendly and the enviroment was good, had anappointment with Dr. BEN BERSCHLER, the visit was to fill 2 cavities and it seemed to go well until later that day, I had a piece of gum and still had the pain in the same location, so made an appointment with a previous dentist I've seen before, Dr. Dallas Steele, and sure enought the CAVITY was still there, so he explained that whomever did the filling did not fill it appropriate, he only filled the sides and did not clean the cavity out he just covered it up. So I truly do not recommend seeing Dr. Ben Berschler, it was a waste of money, since I now have to have it redone and his mistakes fixed. read more

Dr. Ben is totally condescending and belittling once he feels he can not profit immensely off of you. Either you do it his way or you go to another Dr. and pay for all the work you need re-done out of your own pocket, as insurance does not cover it a second time in the same year... find another Dr. who is more professional, save yourself the trouble, and hopefully you are not in pain like I was, and refused medication, as well as not just one, but two missed infections (from his cost efficient digital x-rays)... read more

After reading all of the reviews and even having a friend refer me, I was really looking forward to making DPD my new dentist, especially since they are less than 2 miles form my home. Sadly my experience was not the same as others. When I called to schedule I explained that I would be a new patient and asked if they needed any previous records, I was told they just needed me to complete the new patient forms. I also asked for a quote on the price for a cleaning, as I do not have dental insurance, and was told they could not give me one over the phone. When I arrived at my appointment, I was immediately quoted $189.00 for an exam, x-rays and a cleaning. I shared that I had x-rays taken in November at my former dentist. When asked if I'd had them sent I explained that I was not asked to when i scheduled, even after enquiring about the need for any of my previous records. I asked if I could have them sent and forgo additional x-rays at this time and if the quote of $189.00 could be reduced due to not having x-rays. I was then given the quote of $159.00. When asked if they could do any better, the woman at the front desk said she'd need to check in back. When she returned she said that $189.00 was the best they could do. When I asked her about the previous quote of $159.00 she said that $189.00 was the discounted rate, even without x-rays. I am glad that others have had good experiences with DPD and I hope they continue to. For me I will continue looking for my new dentist. read more

This office would not see me as a patient when I requested a cleaning without X-rays. I recently moved to Phoenix and went here as a new patient (after already having spoken to someone on the phone about receiving a cleaning without X-rays). When the receptionist told me I would be charged for a cleaning, exam, and X-ray, I told her I would not like the X-ray. She said it was necessary so I requested X-rays from my previous dentist but the receptionist then said they were from too long ago even though they were within 6 months (as she initially stated they would need to be) and my previous dental receptionist said they should be accepted for a year (the X-rays were from November and the current month is May). Concerned about being exposed to too many X-rays, I told the receptionist I still did not want X-rays done but concerned about my teeth, I still wanted a cleaning. The receptionist said I could reschedule for X-rays but I could not have a teeth cleaning without them. I am shocked that a dental office would act as though they care more about finding a way to charge me for something that I did not need than my dental health and loose a patient over it. The receptionist was blunt and rude and interacted with me in front of another patient rather than dealing with each of us individually. I started to get the impression that she became judgmental towards me when I said I did not have dental insurance and assumed I was avoiding X-rays to avoid cost and that she had no sensitivity to patients that fear overexposure to radiation. read more

It has been some time since I saw a dentist last and of course I had some trepidation going back to the dentist. The last hygienist I saw in Mesa tried to sell me items that I didn't need and tell me the only toothbrushes I could use were the ones they provided. However, the staff here are great! I am always made to feel comfortable and they explain everything. They don't try to push anything on you if you don't need it. They remember your name and are personable and friendly. If you are looking for a great dental office in the valley, this one is tough to beat. Lori is amazing and so patient. Dr. Berschler and Dr. Zachs are knowledgeable and friendly. They also allow you to fill out the necessary paperwork online! All medical practices should do this. Because this is downtown Phoenix, they do validate parking for you if you need to park in the building garage. I love this place and will go on a regular basis! read more
