    Salad time.
    Chad P.

2 Oct 2025 2:30 ish PM 3.1 stars. Been wanting a Cobb salad. I love those things. Wife and I decided to take a 21 mile drive to a spot we think specializes in salads. Tender Greens. As expected, finding parking is a beotch in Berkeley. Metered parking a block and a half away was found. A dollar for each 16 minutes if I remember correctly. I'm a boomer that doesn't like restaurants that have loud noise, disorganization, unruly todlers or uncleanliness. I expect to be treated as if I was invited over to have lunch with a mature friend. The cashier where you order and pay at the same time is counterintuitively at the back of the place. Customers walk in the front door and need to ask a cook at the front who tells you to head down towards the back door to place an order. Management: An "ORDER" sign with an arrow easily visible at entrance pointing to the cashier might fix this. That sign you currently have 11' high towards the back is easily missed. The staff at Tender Greens seemed professional. Maybe aside for the employees that wear their uniform hats backwards. The restaurant was kept clean and the tables bussed. Pleasant tunes like from The Foo Fighters and Hall and Oats had me bopping my head. If this was a tap room I could have spent hours here. I got my Cobb (and took my Yelp pictures) and my wife had a grilled salmon plate. I'll focus on the Cobb salad. I've been enjoying these salads for years. They come with a portion of blue cheese, a portion of dressing, a portion of chicken yada yada all arranged next to but not in each other. You get the salad plate and enjoy the look of the individual items, and then you mix or not at will. It's fun. Want to skip the avocado? Do it. Share a clean tomato? Share away. Skimp on the dressing or don't use it at all? You're in charge. Go for it! At Tender Greens, their salad comes tossed for you without your asking.. Sauce is on everything. If you are hoping to eat a bit of blue cheese or anything by itself, that is not happening. Most salad items are disguised in sauce\dressing to the point that you have to put food bits in your mouth and suck off the dressing before you chew to figure out what you have. Also you have no idea with this tossing how much of each salad componate you paid for. I haven't seen a tossing on a Cobb like this (until today) for fifty years and I hope never to see it for fifty more. Side note on this salad. Those bacon bites ( too large to call bits) are delicious. Just like my Father's home made bacon, though you could chip a tooth on these.. So the $16.95 salad tasts fine and I'm 3\4 through and getting full and Damned if i don't find a four inch brown hair on my plate. I'm bald and my wife's hair is overly highlighted blond so its not ours. This has never happened to me before to my knowledge. Unless I've unwittingly eaten someone else's hair. The filthy thing must have been hidden under the salad as it didn't show in the pics taken upon salad arrival. I was so disappointed and sick down in the pit of my stomach that I didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture. You know or can imagine the feeling of filth touching your food right? Management. This food debacle can be easily fixed. Most of your male employees have facial hair and nobody wears hair nets. 1) Hair nets for all. 2) Facial masks for whiskers. Use it (mask) or lose it (shave). I received a second salad with an apology for the first. The second salad had visibly more blue cheese and avocado. That was nice. Management. Portion control? I might come back for the second salad but not the first. So it's unlikely we will be back.

I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed it. I typically get a Grilled Steak plate, which comes with two choices of sides and a garlic bread. It's always good, nothing special and you could probably make it at home but it's a solid meal. It's definitely quite expensive for the amount of food you get. There's lots of seating inside and they have an outdoor area as well. You order at a counter and they'll bring you your food. Typically service is fast and employees have always been kind and approachable. You have to find street parking somewhere which can be difficult, as expected. Would come again for a quick and convenient meal.

I received a giftcard for Tender Greens, so I ordered ahead for pickup on two different occasions. The first time, I also asked about a limited edition deal for a free housemade drink, so I was able to try the Greens as part of that. Happier Vegan bowl: 3/5 The red sauce was spicy, and the falafel patties are plain on their own and could've used some seasoning. I wish they put more falafel but I liked the farro and hummus I thought it was just okay overall, it didn't feel like to me like I got a lot for the price. It's listed as containing baked falafel, farro salad, hummus, pasta pearls, heirloom cherry tomatoes, baby lettuces, harissa sauce, sherry vinaigrette. The Greens: 3/5 It definitely tasted like health food, i.e. leafy green vegetables. Would have been nice if they could have tweaked it in some way to make it tastier while still being nutritious. Longevity bowl with maitake mushroom: 5/5 I'm not a fan of arugula, but I was pleasantly surprised that while there was indeed a decent amount of arugula, it didn't taste bad, and although I was skeptical when first seeing the cauliflower because it was charred black on one side and mostly still green on the other, it actually tasted yummy and crunchy without being unpleasantly bitter. I also really like the lentils, and I particularly loved the mushrooms which are firm, juicy and savory. The dressing paired well with it too. Olive oil cake: 3/5 It was alright, sweeter than I expected. Kind of reminds me of a donut. I was really hoping it would be more savory and heavy on the olive flavor.

The smaller cookie is maybe 60-65% the size of the larger cookie.

Tender Greens in Berkeley serves tasty food and has friendly staff. I don't love the part of town it's in, but they have a nice space. What I don't like about Tender Green is their less than honest/accurate advertising. I recently bought a six-pack of cookies - under "family meals" on the menu. I ordered through the app and was expecting two cookie varieties: the chocolate chunk and salted caramel cookies that can also be purchased individually. I would have been pleasantly surprised if there had been a third flavor during the holiday season. Instead, all six cookies were chocolate chunk. Even stranger was that the cookie sizes were completely inconsistent. I took photos to highlight the distinction. During a visit earlier in the year, I ordered a special seasonal dish: the Japanese Chicken Curry. While it was certainly tasty, I was disappointed that the advertised photos featured a healthy amount of chicken -- large chunks throughout -- while the actual dish contained very little chicken -- just a few small bites. I was expecting a hearty dish with plenty of protein, but that was not what was served. Between the chicken and the cookies, I have felt misled and no longer trust Tender Greens. I won't run back there.

Food was piping hot, online ordering was attentive (requested specific directions: medium rare), & Sara was especially helpful when I contacted Tender Greens. My lunch was delivered on time by DoorDash. Yummy!!

Everything tasted super fresh and delicious! I got the Happier Vegan bowl. My only thing is I wish there was more falafel or something to dip into the hummus or sauces as i had a lot of hummus and sauce leftover after eating the bowl. I ended up dipping some pretzels I had into the hummus to finish it. If anything it felt like a light lunch to me as I was still hungry after, idk how the non-vegan bowls are but the flavors are on point, customer service was friendly and the entire place was very clean and modern looking. Delicious but just not very filling in my opinion! It also did take around 12 minutes for my order to be ready to go so if you're trying to be in and out it may take a bit!

Love this place! We got salads, and they were so fresh, had premium ingredients, and a higher quality gourmet salad. The Cobb had delicious salt & pepper chicken, it's well seasoned and slightly crispy. They give ripe avocados, eggs, bacon, and tomato. The restaurant is sparkling clean, professional staff and comfortable seating area.

Wth is this charcoal I just got in my grilled steak plate? This is not even edible, I wish I was exaggerating.

They recently closed down the Tender Greens near my city, so I was happy to have lunch at this location in Berkeley while visiting family in the area. Metered street parking is limited, but the restaurant is large and spacious both inside and in their outdoor patio out back. Service was sufficient, with more workers than guests at the restaurant around noon time on a Tuesday, so hardly a wait for anything. The grilled salmon plate with romaine hearts and roasted potatoes lived up to the standards of other locations I've been to... tasty quality ingredients to fill my hunger. Everything was satisfying in both of our dishes, and the hibiscus tea was just right, fruity but not too sweet.

Wow so many negative reviews. All I can say is show me a place with an excellent seating plan, friendly service, and delicious healthy food and I will be sold. So happy they are back open :) Wins Dairy free tomato soup. Rich and flavorful. Not too acidic. Sweet fresh tomato goodness. Fried chicken. Yum. Crisp and flavorful. Vegetable sides - a nice mix of gourds and veggies grilled with flavor. Not over cooked. Win wins The grilled salmon is so juicy and tender. What did they do? Delicious Seating - lovely outdoor space and modern cafeteria style seating indoors. Great staff. Super friendly. Wish list Would love a plate option where you could choose 2 meats. I always get fomo for the fried chicken and steak. Will pay!

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Wood Tavern met the criteria for a relatively nice American restaurant in North Oakland. We visited for lunch and wanted to make this special for our mom, so we were perhaps a bit overdressed in business casual, but this is Oakland after all. On an ordinary Thursday, there were multiple groups waiting outside for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM. That in itself should tell you how popular this place is. My wife and I dined at sister restaurant Southie next door a few years ago and really enjoyed it (I also rated it five stars on Yelp), so I was confident Wood Tavern would not disappoint. I initially booked our reservation using OpenTable to link it to my account and get 100 points. Since the max party size for Wood Tavern on OpenTable is four, I had to call to get it changed to eight. Due to the large party size, the restaurant also required me to give them my credit card info and be subject to a $25 per person no-show fee. Upon arrival, our tables were ready for us in the back corner near the open kitchen. The restaurant is true to its name with a shared bar and dining room space that evoke the feel of a wood tavern. As for what to order, I recommend all of the dishes we got. It really just depends on what you like and/or what you're in the mood for. Everyone loved the food. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, the pastrami was one of the best I've had anywhere, my mom raved about the seafood stew, my brother-in-law gobbled up all of the casarecce, and the burger was outstanding. Service was polite and speedy. Our server Sophia C was awesome. We split one of the salads and the stew, so they came out plated and served in half portions which was nice of the kitchen staff to do.

The sauce it was paired with was the wow factor and we even asked for more. The bulgogi on both the bulgogi bowl and bulgogi scramble was tender and had a tasty marinade. I would had wished the bulgogi scramble didn't have as much red onion. I was surprised with the sweet potato tots option and that didn't disappoint. The spicy pork sandwich was elevated and balanced out with the kimchi slaw and cucumber combo. We finished with the Crunch French toast and it was perfection! Fluffy inside but a crunchy outside. The hostess was welcoming, and the staff who brought out our food were friendly. Unfortunately, our server provided a very different experience. When we asked for appetizer recommendations, he simply repeated the menu items without offering any suggestions. Throughout the meal, he never checked on our table, even though we noticed him checking on the surrounding tables several times. At one point, the patio umbrella unexpectedly fell near our table. Instead of first asking if everyone was okay, his only response was, "Do you mind if I close the umbrella?" That was disappointing and made us feel overlooked. The only time his attitude became noticeably friendlier was when he brought the check. We happened to be the only Asian table that afternoon. While I can't say for certain why our experience felt different, the contrast in service left us feeling unwelcome. I hope every customer receives the same level of care and attention.

Most recently I finally was able to give them a try. So glad we did! We came around lunch time and sat at a booth. There were other worker bees grabbing a quick lunch. The service was quick, efficient and friendly, and we ordered the French onion soup to start, and split the fried chicken sandwich and Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. I also saw a patron ordering the quinoa kale salad with fried chicken, and yes, that's the vibe! Pricing is fair for the quality and quantity, and street parking available (although the restaurant is located at the bottom of Solano where it tends to be a bit more busy). Women-owned biz, and they also were on Check Please! Bay Area.

The menu is diverse, creative, and consistently excellent. Every dish arrives with the care and attention of a kitchen that truly respects its craft. The flavors are bold, memorable, and never disappoint. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is attentive, welcoming, and professional. In an industry where consistency is rare, Tipsy Yeti continues to exceed expectations. Some meals satisfy hunger. The best meals leave an impression. Tipsy Yeti does the latter.

My absolute favorite things are always the soups, desserts, and candied Meyer lemon peel. Menus change daily for the downstairs restaurant and are posted in advance on the website, so that you can adjust your reservations once the menus are posted if you have any objections. Definitely make reservations a month out as soon as they're available for downstairs, but they can switch you to the upstairs café if you don't like what's being served in the downstairs restaurant that day. We took advantage of this option because one of our party does not eat fish or lamb. The café upstairs is more casual and items can be ordered à la carte from the seasonal menu. I enjoyed my Sonoma duck breast and carrot soup, but the winner was the cardamom mousse. I highly recommend any dish that features fresh produce, especially the bowl of fresh fruit for dessert.

Growing…read moreup in Berkeley, most people are well aware of the infamous restaurant that focuses on farm-to-table dishes and sustainable ingredients. When friends or classmates would tell me they dined here, I was like, " Wow, so boujee. Fast forward to today, and I had the opportunity to go for my Mom's birthday! My family made reservations, which are hard to come by. They need to be made well in advance. We arrived before our 8:30pm reservation and, unfortunately, weren't seated until after 9:00pm. Once inside the dining area, it was lively and loud, intimate, and somewhat more formal compared to their upstairs cafe. Service from all staff was kind; the host occasionally stopped by; our food was delivered, and we were checked on throughout. It was also lovely to peek inside the open-air kitchen. If you dine in their dining area, it's prix-fixe. On my Mom's birthday, they had a salad, pasta, steak, and ice cream. The salad was good--I don't eat mushrooms, but found it tasty and a bit over-dressed. My favorite was the pasta, a little spice. Warm from the noodles but cold from the cheese--the shrimp was nicely cooked. For our entrée, we had a rib-eye. I don't eat steak, but for this occasion I did--it was good, but because I rarely eat beef, I couldn't compare it to other rib-eyes I'd had. The vegetables were good and quite fresh. I gave the ice cream to my family since I don't have dairy, but the fruit was great! Overall I enjoyed more dishes than others. The bread and drinks were also good. I'd be curious to come back for a different prix-fixe. Chez Panisse is a must visit once restaurant in my opinion--whether you're local to the area or live in the Bay Area. Alice Waters is famous and has won a multitude of awards for a reason. I'm happy to have finally dined here and celebrated my Mom's birthday. The restaurant is off Shattuck Ave. with street parking around.
