The Montclair Egg Shop is one of those places that has become a family tradition for us. This is usually where my siblings and I take our mom for her birthday or Mother's Day because it's one of her favorite breakfast spots. The restaurant has such a cozy, homey feeling that makes it perfect for a relaxed family breakfast. The food is always good, the atmosphere is welcoming, and it just feels like one of those neighborhood places that has been part of the community forever. One of my favorite things is coming when the farmers market is outside. After breakfast, we can walk around Montclair, browse the market, and make a whole morning out of it. What a pleasant surprise! I've seen this place for years and never tried it, I just didn't want to be disappointed again by another place that serves mediocre breakfast. However!!! Their food is freaking fantastic. I ordered the corn beef and hash which came with two toasted eggs and a side of sourdough toast. Their coffee is also top-notch and I'm crazy picky about coffee. I could only eat half of my meal, but I was happy to take the rest home for breakfast tomorrow. Staff was super nice and friendly. I got seated right away although it did get busy and there was a line right after I got there on a Friday around 10:30 AM. Can't wait to come back and try their other items. Very cute location, there's a parking garage around the corner so that is incredibly convenient . There's not of places to walk to nearby as well. The restaurant itself is so well decorated and even has a fireplace. It's only downstairs the upstairs seems to be all storage. The outside was also set up cutely but it was pretty windy. The staff was all super lovely, even though it was crazy busy and there were a bunch of people waiting that staff was amazing and got us in and out of there in no time. The food even came super quick. The food itself was a bit of a let down but I'm not giving up! I got the chilaquiles with scrambled eggs. The chilaquiles themselves were pretty soggy and not much flavor. There was a light tomato flavor but not enough to make it amazing. They did have a lot of extra condiments which I appreciated but cholula could only save them so much. Even the eggs they were pretty tasteless I had to load them up with pepper. I've eaten at Montclair Egg Shop many many times and the food and service are consistently GREAT!!!

Overall rating: Meh Food: Just okay. First, don't expect a hearty plate of food. My husband and I both agreed it looked like they were rationing portions. My eggs Benedict was a sad little plate with very little hollandaise, the smallest, flattest english muffins that I've ever seen! And my side of potatoes were not only bland, but I could count on one hand, how many they gave me. My husband joked that it looked like we ordered from the kid's menu. We did order an extra plate of french toast (because they don't serve pancakes on the weekends...what the heck?) The french toast tasted good and came with 3 slices. We also ordered 2 coffees which were great. Hot, strong and refilled often! Nice touch. Service was good. Warm, friendly, attentive and lots of smiling faces. Ambiance: not bad. Place was very busy, very loud but staff was working hard to keep everything moving smoothly. They did a good job. My biggest complaints: *Food portions (not enough food for what you pay.) *Flavor of food: could be better. I have a feeling the flavor of the food suffered because the restaurant was "that" busy. *No pancakes available on the weekends. You are a breakfast/brunch establishment. A local breakfast location with very nice decore, ample seating, attentive service and fast order to table. I suggest making a reservation rather than do the San Fran-wait outdoors. This place runs like a well oiled machine. From the time we came in and sat down I noticed 6 tables clear. We didn't spend any more then 40 min at the place. The food was unseasoned and cooked well, crunchy bacon and lightly toasted bread. Based purely on price I rate a 3.4 wears there was nothing that stood out and apart feom other places like this. Lovely ambiance and nicely decorated and clean. Servers were very nice and we attended with a 2 yo, everyone was very nice and baby got a coloring egg page and crayons. We wanted a sweet coffee and they offered to add brown sugar to our latte and it was yummy. Chilaquiles weren't as flavorful as we expected. Eggs Benedict bread and crab cake were on the sweeter side so not a favorite for me but the potatoes were very yummy. Would definitely go back but order a different Benedict. Came here on a whim with my bestie who lives in Oakland. We actually walked here from her house. The restaurant was in a cozy shopping area of Montclair. Lots of busy patriots all in the area, shopping and lining up to be seating for their fave restaurant. There is only all street parking so good luck. We waited about 30 plus min. It's easier and faster wait with only two people. The restaurant itself is small and not many large tables for groups. We both ordered their crab Benedict. It was pretty good. Decent price. Didn't get to try other things but wouldn't mind coming back to try other dishes. This is only open for brunch hours only. Service was very friendly and attentive. This place is always packed, I suggest you put your name on the waitlist before you leave the house to time it just right. Parking can be difficult as well. I've been here multiple times as I like the food and the ambiance. They do seem to have a limited menu but then again with a name like "egg shop" I believe they are within the niche. We came in on a fairly busy Saturday afternoon. Usually when we show up earlier there's a line, so this time we tried coming a bit later. Good news: no wait. Bad news: we were seated at a table right next to the bathroom. Unfortunately, there's only one unisex restroom, and the steady line of people waiting kind of took away from the vibe. Honestly, that's the only thing keeping this from being a five-star experience. That said, our waitress was absolutely fantastic. Super attentive and kept my iced tea topped off the entire meal without me having to ask. My friend ordered the Juneau Eggs Benedict and loved it, and my omelette was just as delicious. Yesterday was one of those days that cooking didn't seem like a good idea. We stumbled into this place while browsing through Yelp, and apparently you can add yourself to the waitlist from the app! So by the time we arrived we didn't have to wait too long. If you do that I recommend you look at the menu before you are seated it makes an efficient experience. So I had the huevos rancheros, those were good, my Mrs had the scrambled eggs with potatoes those were also cool. She did say that one bread slice in halves wasn't enough bread, I say that for the price point I don't mind, the tab total was a good number. Place is decorated with trains and poems, a bit retro as well. I definitely recommend 5/5 read more

Arrived at 9:15 Sunday morning and there were three parties ahead of us on the waitlist. We were seated within 5 mins. It has been a while since we have been back. The place is still bustling with great energy and service is still friendly. Food: gentle reminder that they don't salt their foods anticipating various needs. So remember to salt/pepper to taste as not to be surprised by the food's blandness. Best dish is their challah French toast. It's so good that my 12 yo stops talking just to chow down. I've been to this place twice and always got the pesto crepe. The first time, the filling was a bit more generous. The taste was okay, but it wasn't exactly mind-blowing. Came by on a Sunday afternoon and found street parking right in front. There's a kiosk at the host stand to sign up for the waitlist, but the employee seated me immediately at a cozy little table right next to the fireplace, cuz I didn't have a group with me to require waiting. I admired the restaurant interior with simple decor and exposed brick walls. Ordered the "create your own" scramble (mushroom, green onion, pork sausage, cheddar), with grilled tomato and toast. It was a small dish, the egg scramble light on the toppings, and a single tiny slice of sourdough. But everything was tasty, especially the grilled tomato that came on the side. They forgot my diet soda, and I finished my meal before I could ask for it a second time. But it was fine, I got it taken off the bill. I was visiting from out of state and came here for a family meal, but it was a disaster from start to finish. The service was poor right away. My coffee was served with an empty creamer, and by the time the waitress returned with more, the coffee was already cold. We had ordered a potato pancake meal, an order of French toast, and a side of bacon. We were sharing the potato pancake meal from the main plate, and we had pulled the French toast and bacon from their plates to put them on that main plate as well. About a third of the way through, I noticed a hair on that main plate. When I told the waitress, her response was baffling. She said she could take the potato pancake off since it was "mostly consumed," but she seemed confused when I asked about the rest of the food on the plate. She actually asked if I was going to eat the rest. I told her I had no interest in eating a meal that was on a plate with hair, and she just offered to make another potato pancake, which was ridiculous. I eventually asked for a manager, Elizabeth, who spent the time explaining how she "comped" the bill instead of apologizing for the hygiene issue. They really expected us to keep eating food off a plate with hair on it and still charged us for half of the French toast. We also ordered a club sandwich for my great niece, and she told us after we left that the crust was so hard it was like eating croutons. The management was rude and they were not concerned at all with us returning. Between the hair in the food, the cold coffee, and the lack of professional service, I would strongly recommend skipping this cafe. read more

OMG So glad I listened to my fellow Yelpers and tried this spot. I brought my team for breakfast and it was perfect. We were a party of 8 and it was just the place! Parking wasn't bad, they seated us right away and let's not forget how freakin adorable the inside is! I loved everything about the ambiance and I'll definitely be going back! The staff were all really great and I love an open kitchen. There were several food option for the diversity of the group I was with and everyone loved their food. I wish I could five 5 stars, but one of my staff has read reviews about finding hair in their food and that moment of dread happened. She was almost done with her meal, but it definitely ruined her appetite. We all felt bad but she didn't send it back because evening up to that point was so great.
