I think I just discovered my favorite restaraunt of all time in Berkeley. Though the exterior of the restaraunt is unassuming, and the building itself is quite small with limited seating, the interior is still very clean and neat, and the workers are very nice. I placed an online order for the C Chicken Momos and the Garlic Cheese Naan, which were both phenomenal. The naan was some of the best I've ever had. It was so fluffy, thick, and pillowy soft, and was not overly charred/thin or too crispy like other naan. Just pure doughy goodness. There was also a perfect amount of cheese filling--enough that you got the subtle kick of milky acidity, but not too overpowering. The naan itself was also not too greasy, and the garlic flavor was very aromatic. You could also taste a hint of the slight tartness from (I'm assuming) the yogurt used to make the naan. The "C" Chicken Momos came with eight large pieces, which is definitely enough to fill you up. The sauce tasted like a classic sweet-and-sour sauce with a very mild and pleasant spice. Also, because the dumplings were fried, they were crispy despite being covered in sauce, but still had a bit of the nice chew you would get from a steamed momo skin. The fillings themselves were also super flavorful: you get a herbal and fresh taste from the ginger, which balanced the tanginess of the sauce so the meal did not feel too heavy, and the subtle nuttiness and pepperiness of cumin in each bite. The dumplings also had some warm broth in them, which is perfect for a cold day. The prices are fair too. You can often find small discounts on Snackpass or delivery apps like GrubHub. Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back. Totally recommend! read more

I made it very clear when I was vegetarian when ordering. I asked multiple times if the dish was vegetarian, even when it was brought out, and every time I was reassured that it was. I ate one Momo before questioning again, and they admitted it contained chicken... Got the jhol veg momo on a cold, rainy day. Served piping hot with a mild level of spice for the medium spice I requested, but tasty nonetheless. The broth/sauce was nutty and sour and absolutely DELICIOUS. The dumplings were al dente and the veggie filling was seasoned and cooked well, not too mushy or too crunchy. I don't think I've had anything quite like it in terms of flavor. It's a small shop that only sits 7-8 people, and it was relatively empty when I entered. 4 of us went there early for dinner before event at Zellerbach. It couldn't have been a closer location. The woman running the counter and service was very welcoming, helping to put tables together (there was another "large" party and few tables). We ordered dishes not all at the same time, so we could enjoy each as it arrived hot. Steamed vegetable momos were really delicious, with plenty of dipping sauce. There was a bit of a mix up and we ended up with both aloo paratha and roti. Both tasted delicious, and very different from each other. My dining companions had the kadai chicken and liked the sauce. It takes a while for each dish to be served, as this is clearly not a fast food place. The restaurant appears like a small hole-in-the-wall but the food is great and well prepared, served on nice china plates. By the time we left the place was full. We plan to return. read more

I got chicken tikka masala from them but the chicken meat tasted fermented (i.e. rotten). I had taken takeout so I couldn't complain directly, but I would like to get refunded for this. Went here after watching a performance at Zellerbach Hall. The lady at the counter promptly seated us, gave us our menu, and took our order quite promptly. The food came out freshly cooked and was very delicious. This place is clearly a very friendly and solid quality place to eat at. Needed something hot on a cold day as I headed to the Cal Women's Basketball game and these momos were perfect! They are steamed to order, the guy working was super nice in accommodating my request to do a half order of veggie and a half order of chicken and the food is very reasonably priced. Ordering at the counter to food being ready took about 10 minutes and that was with nobody in line so plan accordingly. The Momo's were stuffed with filling and flavor. I asked for the medium spicy sauce which added to the already bursting flavors. This is my favorite restaurant in Berkeley hands down. Everything I have ordered tastes authentic and homemade. The spices and flavors are absolutely delicious. The staff are friendly too. This is one of those sort of hole in the wall places to me because it isn't fancy, but damn is the food good. I also love that the vibe is laid back and casual. I went here with two of my friends for dinner. It's a small shop with stools by the window to sit and eat. When I went, it was pretty empty, so it may be a nice spot to enjoy a meal with a very small group. We ordered on SnackPass, and I got the Jhol Chicken Momo. It honestly was pretty filling! I thought the dumplings would be small, but it definitely satisfied me. It was very warm, and I got medium spiciness which was completely tolerable. The jhol was the flavor core in this dish. Some of the best momos I've had in a while, and I love momos. Literally got it again the next night because I was raving about it, and the group decided to go, and I enjoyed it again! Small hole-in-the-wall along the edge of Berkeley's campus. There is a row of bar seating at the window, but we decided to eat outside at some picnic tables on campus across the street since we had a dog with us. I get the jhol chicken momos - soooo good. I like that dough is thick, and filling is flavorful with spices. The sauce/jhol kicked my butt though (I can usually only handle like mild spiciness), but I liked it better than the sauce that came with the steamed chicken momo my husband got. I also ordered the aloo gobi the first time in order to get some vegetables that day. I was kind of hoping for more cauliflower, but it ended up being about 5-6 florets along with 4-5 baby potatoes in a gravy (not dry). Complex taste, salty and sweet and spicy at the same time. Took quite a while to get our food both nights even though there weren't many other customers, but worth it! read more

Chicken tikka marsala with rice $16.99, portion is small, 6" diam. x 2" high ramekin with 7 pieces of chicken were not tandoori but seem like boiled dry breast meat that varied in sizes 2" or 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" thick. The sauce was tasty on a slightly sweet side but overall the sauce was very good and rice 3-1/2" dia x 2" was ok, warm but not hot. Chicken momo's $13.99 were large enough, not to our liking and quite a few. Too bad we didn't care for the taste. I don't know how to describe the flavor but seemed to be reheated in the microwave. I thought it would be served in a soup type bowl with lots of heated sauce. The faux boiled momo were served with a cold side sauce on the side. Butter naan $2.99 portion was good/ok 6-8 pieces but on the heavier side. Not airy. They promptly provided a plastic covered water square water picture and plastic cups. The place is relatively small with 7 small wooden tables with 2 chairs each. The dining area is fairly clean for a college type takeout restaurant. The floors were faux wood which match the table tops and metal wood chairs. There were scuff marks on the white walls and the wall divider separating the cooking area and dining area was covered in a plastic coating which had the logo of the company was mis-applied and peeling. Afterward, I went to the restroom and after seeing the back area I thought it was very vey dirty. The exterior sink floor trap had food piled in it. Overall I don't think I will go back. The only redeeming part of the meal was only the tikka masala sauce. It was a miss on cleanliness and overall food and quality. read more

Very interesting flavours! A solid four. The atmosphere from the outside looks like a nice little place, almost like a funfair type of ambiance. Once you go you get a mixture of scents of Nepal.. Such a sturdy and well-built smell Nepalese food has. The two staff members work very hard and they're pretty much the ones in there that are running the show. Yes, the service was slow but it's understandable, plus I think the flavours of my food was worth it, I was there very early too. Looks very clandestine of a place. I ordered the chicken dumplings and the fried wings with chili. The fried wings with chili were very nice in taste. Very savoury with strong sparks of sweet tang. The veggies especially the onions were so crunchy, I do feel the veggies were a bit overcooked. The sauce is very watery, which was upsetting but fine because the flavour is the star of the show here, I think. I made some rice at home and with that leftover sauce, it works very well. The chicken dumplings were perfection. The exterior of them was nice dark golden brown, some varied by shade but all looked welcoming. The inside seasoned very well and mushy with all the excess put into it. The sauces that came with my food were very tasty, especially with the dumplings. There was two, I am not knowledgeable but it was a smaller dark sauce (bit spicy) and the other seemed like a tangy orange colour tomato sauce looking. The food was pretty good, it wasn't too spicy and I'm someone who can't handle more than a mild level of spice unfortunately. It's a good choice if you like onions, bell peppers, and oily food generally but would prefer something that has more of a kick and less creaminess than paneer tikka masala or shahi paneer. The food was finished early, which is great for me to not have to wait for placing the order or picking up the food, but also made me hope they are getting enough business. I had no clue flavor town was an actual place, but this meal of mixed chow main and cheesy fried chicken MoMos took me on a journey that was absolutely life changing. The intricate flavors of the spices, freshness of the herbs, and the delicate differences of textures had me doing a happy dance. Each dish was piping hot and oh so tasty! The cheese pull on the MoMos was like no other and down right epic! They make it easy and have multiple options to order like over the phone, or online.
