Excellent Dive bar! Moving out to NYC after undergrad, I found this as my local bar (2 blocks from my apt). It was always nice to head here after class or weekend late nights. I don't know if this is still the case but after I become more of a regular, I became privy to the fact they stay open past bar-time on weekends. I remember stumbling into there at 1am and out of there at 10am the next morning. It got slammed after about 5am, much better crowd than you would expect in Queens. Weeknight fights were common and hey, just add to the entertainment appeal. I miss Doyle's but always have a home away from home when back in the old stompin grounds. read more

Karaoke. Some people love to belt out their voices in front of crowds of strangers. Some people hate that. I feel like there are no in-betweeners that kinda like to sing bad songs in public. You either love it or you hate it. Well, I'll admit, I'm a hater...or so I think. You get enough drinks in me and I might get up there and sing Come On Eileen. Only the best karaoke song out there. But...I've got to be drunk. We're talking at least 5 drinks in... Going to Doyle's Corner for the first time, was also my first trip to Astoria EVER. I'm a newby to NYC anyhow, so it's not that strange. Walking to Doyle's, I was reminded of Boston as we walked down what looked like 'Main Street' and passed residential houses and local stores. Not that Boston doesn't have a great city (I love Boston) but it's more low key. Astoria is definitely low key. Running from pub to karaoke bar, I was like, "Where are the real bars??" It seems I've been in Manhattan for too long already... Doyle's is a bit of a hole in the wall. Low ceilings, small area to move around and a very small, somewhat crowded space, right by the bathroom so-called 'stage.' Many, many songs...just go on up and take a slot of time, it won't be long of a wait. Not much sitting room as everyone gathers around the microphone to hear how horrible you'll sound up there. Some people aren't so bad...some were terrrribbble. See, this is where I come back to being a hater...why go to a bar to listen to people with no voice scratch their way through a popular song from 1998? Unless it's your friend up there cracking through the chorus, it's just plain annoying. 3 Stars for being the average Karaoke Bar. Nothing special. read more

This place would be boss, if people still used terms like boss. OK, I've only been here once, but the drinks were reasonably priced, the place was not filled with annoying hipsters, and I could actually hear and hang out with the people I was with. The bartenders were cool, and the ones our night were authentically Irish (bonus). One was an adorable redhead (bonus). There karaoke was hilarious and we even teamed up with a quality guy with 5 o'clock (the next morning) shadow who later hit us up for same dank weed. In conclusion: It's a bar. They have booze. I'm obsessed and have been since the first time I drunkenly stumbled into this dimly lit haven of Guinness. I live right around the corner and have spent countless evenings drinking waaaaay too much here. It's cheap and Brendan and Paul are the greatest, sweetest bartenders I've ever known. I live a block away and can't believe how many months it took me to come here! It looks dingy on the outside but the interior is quite charming. We got beer and cider on tap and way too much food. Fish and chips were delicious, apps were great too. Burger was meh but that was the only mediocre element. Also the bathrooms are super super clean. They have pool and darts. Solid spot that's pretty low key, but fun enough not to be a drag like all the Irish Pubs on 31st Street. Bartenders are the best part, very authentic and entertaining. Burger is super solid too, in fact one of the best in this price point. Jukebox plays whatever you want and strong internet connection if you want to work in your own booth while you watch the Jets get smoked on your own private screen. Badass. read more

What can I say... I love a bar that I can bring my own food into. Have lived in Astoria for 5 years and have been to Doyle's a handful of times, but recently moved around the corner and have been going... probably a little too much. I love this place, always comfortable there and nice people. Cheap drinks, and I'm not sure about a buyback policy, but I have gotten a few drinks on the house. On two separate occasions strangers had a pizza delivered and offered me a slice! Extra star for that, just for being cool with having food come in. read more

First off, I feel welcomed almost as soon as I step in, so that is definitely a plus! I have had a positive experience with Paul who is such a friendly guy who makes great recommendations as well! Great selection of draft beers and many other drinks to choose from! The food here is also a big plus. Personally tried the fish and chips and I must say, delicious! A place where u go for a couple of shots of drinks before u head to clubs or spend the night away ordering from the bar. The place might get a little too loud on the weekends as it is a small place and very popular but thats how normally bars and pubs are. The servers are very nice and polite. Great bar. Bar tenders are on point and remember everyone. Drinks aren't cheap, but they're good about buy backs. Update: Forgot to mention that they now have outdoor seating in the summer time. This is great. Not many bars in the area have this and it allows for a relaxing night cap when I take my dog out. Grabbed some drinks here last night / this am. One of the staff provided excellent, table-side service - it paralleled and in fact, surpassed the service I received at Milos (a truly upscale restaurant) in midtown. Mangers Cider was fresh, Don Julio was perfect. (Some places cider is stale and tequila is replaced with non-name brand or, water, etc.) Got our waiter's name which I cannot remember now, but what a great personality. Ill-tempered and incompetent servers easily ruin a good time. No chance of that here!! :) Come buy, give them your business. Enjoy great drinks, a game of pool or pick your jams on the jukebox. I feel like this is a quintessential Queens bar. Good people, good drinks, sports on the TVs (Knicks were on when I went, nobody wants to watch the Nets in Queens!), and a pool table/darts. Went in the night before the blizzard and had a delicious hot toddy. No tea in it, but I was quite all right with that. It was hot water, a healthy pour of whiskey, lemon, and clove. It was just right and exactly what I needed. Even better, the bartender was more than happy to pour it for us. The atmosphere was not too loud, but definitely not quiet. Amazing food, superb service, great prices. A big thanks to Ciara for being the best server we've had anywhere in a long time. We found this place when I had a strange craving for fish and chips, and had an inkling an Irish pub would suffice. I did not expect the wonderful experience we had. The food was delicious, fresh, the fish nice and crisp. My husband's burger was huge, juicy, and full of flavor. We questioned why we had been wasting our money at specialty burger joints when there was such a gem two blocks from our home. We returned tonight, this time with our two dogs, hoping for a nice meal in the open air. The waitress brought out water for the dogs without being asked, she answered all of our questions, gave good advice and was all around extremely attentive. We were so impressed by Ciara. Wow. What a low rent PoS bar, but not in the good way. Too bright. Hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The crappy white and green sign (adorned with customary shamrock) is its best feature. Doyle's Corner pours the best pints of Guinness within that 2 mile radius. I can't explain it but for some reason, this place has it when it comes to Guinness. Their bartenders are friendly and attentive to your alcohol needs. I don't know about their karaoke night though...it seems to bring out all the loud and obnoxious people out. The atmosphere is homey, the food is homey, the service is great. I've been there a few times and every time was great. This isn't your typical over-crowded, elbow to elbow, waiting forever for service type of bar. The only thing about this place is it's dark inside, but then again, it's a bar...so no biggie. There are tons of screens where you can watch sports and a few booths where you can sit and chat and eat. The staff is super friendly and accommodating as well. Great neighborhood spot with very friendly bartenders and friendly patrons. After a few minutes there I felt like a regular. This is a great spot to watch a game or just to come have a few drinks. They have a solid amount of TVs, good drink prices and a pool table and dart board for added entertainment. No food, but they allow you to bring it in and there was talk of adding a kitchen at one point so maybe that will change. I used to live around the corner and this was my go to spot, if I still lived in the neighborhood I would probably be there tonight.
