We absolutely loved Doyle's. We loved the quality of the ingredients and the ice cream. We had the toasted coconut which was amazing, the butter brickle excellent and the chocolate flavors, all were delicious! They even let us do half and half in our single scoop serving! (Which another shop in Spokane refused to do) The single scoop was a fairly large scoop. The house made waffle cone was also incredibly delicious! (As a side note to other reviews: we did NOT get any sauces on top of our delicious ice cream, it would have definitely ruined the quality flavor!) The service was great, the gentleman who served us; was friendly and knowledgable about ice cream and explained the process and Doyle's wonderfully. The ambiance of Doyle's is a classic old ice cream shop with lots of classic decorations all over the place. They have 1950's and older, Coca-Cola signs, collectable toys and figurines and Star Wars Toys all over the walls. Oh, they have a very nice little patio on the backside of the store! Doyle's has that retro ice cream parlor vibes, quaint and lots of character. There are lots of wall decor and collectibles. The gentleman serving us, was friendly and helpful. This was our first visit to Doyle's. My husband got a single scoop of mint chip ice cream. Originally, I was going to get a banana split but they were out of bananas. I decided to get a triple scoop: chocolate thunder, mint chip, strawberry ice cream. I was able to add 3 different toppings, whip cream and/or nuts. I got strawberry, chocolate and fudge. I thought strawberry, was fresh fruit strawberries. I thought the chocolate was chocolate chips. There is a little patio area, with tables and chairs behind the parlor. I was super disappointed by the ice cream I received. The sauces were overwhelming, disproportionate to the ice cream. The sauces were way too sweet. I couldn't even taste the ice cream. The ice cream was fair, not rich and creamy. I didn't finish even half the ice cream, not worth the sugar high and dry mouth. I so badly wanted to love this place, but I ended up being shockingly disappointed. I sampled the butter brickle, which was so outrageously sweet that I couldn't stand it. So I went with a single scoop of chocolate on a waffle cone. I thought, "You can't go wrong with chocolate." Well, I was wrong. The chocolate ice cream was completely devoid of the taste of chocolate. Then I thought, "This house made cone is going to be epic." Well it lives up to the hype, meet the owner and his father wonderful, friendly human beings. When we arrived my wife was advocating to go somewhere else. The exterior of Doyle's looked a little old, but based on the Yelp reviews we decided to give it a shot anyway. After a few samples our group ordered butter brickle, Carmel apple, cookies & cream, and a fruit flavor (sorry, forgot the name). They were all amazing! The Butter brickle was crowned the best we've ever had, ever. And the Carmel apple was absolutely delicious. It was by far my favorite. Each flavor I tried was ultra creamy. About as old school as it gets. No frills, no seating, limited flavors, but what they do they do well. Really creamy, fresh ice cream and house made waffle cones you smell when you walk in. I had the caramel apple which was unique tasting with a great sour apple flavor. Very unique and great flavor. There's very few of these types of places left in America! The ambiance is great, the toys are epic, and the antiques and honegrown nature of it bring back one's childhood nostalgia. All this being said, the exterior and the interior could use a little bit of remodeling. The menu could also be more organized. However, the customer service is great, and I like how they're maintaining the old-fashioned nature of something that's probably more than 70 years' old. The ice cream is not near as sugary as a lot of places you're used to. It's also not as creamy. However, I particularly enjoyed the maple nut. Their homemade banana was also pretty good. For years I have been saying I was going to stop and try this place. I finally made it! The shop could use a bit of updating and made to look a bit "fresher", but the owner was nice and the ice cream was GOOD! I think with a bit of marketing and a bit of a facelift....this could go back to being the popular spot it used to be. Kendal Yards may be a ways down the road...but people would definitely stop by if they saw a few upgrades. The "bowls" were really cheap paper and everything looked a bit rundown. I hope the owner can keep making it work now that he took over for his uncle. My husband grew up going there and we enjoy introducing our kids to this delightful corner store. Because of Doyle's size and the amount of its typical transaction, it doesn't take credit cards or checks. Doyle's is also open only a few months a year. They have no phone number. Check its Facebook page for hours of operation. They're really good about keeping it updated. Doyle's makes old fashioned ice cream in kid friendly flavors like bubblegum and black licorice (my favorite), and nostalgic flavors like maple walnut and rum raisin. But they churn in small batches every week, so flavors do run out and are rotated. Scoops are large and milkshakes are generous. They also serve up sodas, floats and sundaes. Doyle's has a vintage soda fountain and is home to a large collection of vintage toys and Spokane memorabilia. Our family loves Doyle's Ice Cream and hope it never changes. read more

From the outside, it looks like someone took an old house and repurposed it to sell ice cream. Since we arrived to visit our family, all we heard was, "Doyle's! We need to go to Doyle's! I want some Doyle's!" This was not coming from a small child. Upon setting foot in Doyle's, the first thing that stands out is the collection of toys in the front. The three or four display cases span a century. The space age is a particular highlight. But, this review isn't about a toy museum. We lined up to get our cones. Everything at Doyle's is handmade, with the cone makers currently in use to prove it. Mint chocolate chip, two watermelon and Reese's. It was all good stuff. Doyle's is cash only, so be prepared.
