a slice of carrot cake and a glass of wine

This is such a Spokane hidden gem. Drive past too quick and you just might miss it! Rocket Market is my favorite spot to grab a snack prior to watching the sunset on High Dr. Their selection of cake is definitely the best part in my opinion. It's the most fun activity to do with friends or on a day - grab a slice of cake, a bottle of wine and you're set for a great night! Their selection of specialty sauces, grocery items, and alcoholic beverages is phenomenal...you have to check this place out!

Been here a few times for small event gatherings. Quite enjoy the little space for small events. It's quaint. They have huge selection of wines, beer and food. Was here once for a late night concert. Had a blast. Now let's get to what I'm good at. I realize that the weather can never seem to make up its mind...but. At the least they could clean up the patio. Seriously. It's summer...ish. The patio looks like someone backyard patio. Broken @$$ tables, moss and debris all over. Get a broom. This is a great neighborhood location for meeting up with friends or having a glass of wine solo. It has potential for more and better setup. Guess I'll have to sit back and wait.

The return of the corner store, only better. The Rocket Market continues to evolve into a one-stop shop for everything good. This little oasis is nestled in suburbia atop the South hill and is actually a gas station. But don't let that fool you, The Rocket Market is oh, so much more. Sure there's great coffee and bakery bliss that we've come to expect from the well established local Rocket empire, but here at the corner of Hatch & 43rd you'll also find a bounty of fresh & organic produce, unique grocery finds & culinary delights, affordable fresh flowers, and one of the best wine selections in town. The newly opened Jupiter Bistro, located within the market offers some marvelous meals with the return to the South Hill of former Luna chef, Shilo Pierce. Gourmet sandwiches, creative salads and homemade soups make us want to re-do lunch and pick up gourmet-to-go for dinner. Wildly popular weekly wine classes from resident wine enthusiast Carl Carlsteen and the highly anticipated summer concert series make us want to move within walking distance. for What's happening at the market check the website for additions and changes. Reservations are requested. The now legendary Rocket Market wine classes are every Friday at 7pm led by Carlsteen. Our favorite re-accruing class is Carl's Picks. The Rocket Market is presented dozens of new wines every month in an effort to be added to the impressive wine selection. As the website boasts, Carlsteen carefully samples every one (damn his lot in life!) in order to determine which ones will make the cut. Carlsteen chooses the wine for his "Picks" class, and you get to try them, which sounds more than fair to us. Notice the handwritten cards below each wine for sale at the Rocket Market with his personal tasting notes, reassuring you it's been personally tried and is recommended. Check out the website under current events for a list of where in the region and the world Carlsteen will take you on his weekly Friday night wine flights. No passport required, but reservations are requested. March classes range from $16 to $25 and include 8 wines. I recently went to the market and here's our recommendations. It was hard to choose just a few with the freshly baked artisan breads, bookcase of unique organic chocolates, and decadent desserts tempting me right by the register. Here's some things to check out on your next visit: *Dillante chocolate mocha with fresh sliced orange rind *Thick cut ham, brie, green apple grilled panini from Jupiter Bistro *Carl's best wine under $10 shelf for making your house wine special. *Nutty strawberry salad from Jupiter Bistro *Knipprath Chocolate Port *Imagine brand Creamy Butternut Squash soup (which we added some ground curry to) *Lemon poppy seed bread or the infamous "Pink " cookie.

By the outside, you'd see this place as any other gas station, but then you walk inside and see the greatest, little, all-natural market and bistro. They have a large emphasis on stocking locally sourced products, which I love. The bistro inside is called Jupiter Bistro, and has some delicious and healthy meal options. Shiloh is the head chef for the bistro and creates wonderful quiche, salads, paninis and soups. Each day there are 3 soup options to choose from (look up rocketmarket on FB for their daily soups). The spicy sausage and kale soup is the best and the chicken and Dijon panini is a beautiful creation of flavors (dip it in some balsamic!) If you're into wine, oh boy do they have some good and reasonably priced wines. Matt the wine guy picks out incredible wines and hosts wine night every Friday. It's such a good and fun learning night! Speaking of drinks, they also have a very good beer selection with 4 beers on tap and local kombucha on tap, as well. Oh yeah, and you can get your gas here too :)

I got it with oatmilk and it was delicious and perfectly sweet and flavorful! I also grabbed an almond croissant to save and it was good, although I wish there was more almond filling. For our mains we got the chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs. They first brought out a smaller chicken and they told us they are going to return with the other piece of chicken and they ended up giving us a whole brand new fried steak which was huge! They didn't have to do that but that was amazing they did that for us. It was also so delicious! Loved the gravy and how crispy it was. My monte cristo sandwich was good, I enjoyed the sweet and savory mix of it and the fresh strawberry jam was delicious. I enjoyed the fries but wish they were a bit more crispy as they were kinda soggy. Overall I had a great experience and the customer service was great, I can't wait to try other menu items.

(As a side note to other reviews: we did NOT get any sauces on top of our delicious ice cream, it would have definitely ruined the quality flavor!) The service was great, the gentleman who served us; was friendly and knowledgable about ice cream and explained the process and Doyle's wonderfully. The ambiance of Doyle's is a classic old ice cream shop with lots of classic decorations all over the place. This was our first visit to Doyle's. My husband got a single scoop of mint chip ice cream. Originally, I was going to get a banana split but they were out of bananas. I decided to get a triple scoop: chocolate thunder, mint chip, strawberry ice cream. I was able to add 3 different toppings, whip cream and/or nuts. I got strawberry, chocolate and fudge. I thought strawberry, was fresh fruit strawberries. I thought the chocolate was chocolate chips. There is a little patio area, with tables and chairs behind the parlor. I was super disappointed by the ice cream I received. The sauces were overwhelming, disproportionate to the ice cream. The sauces were way too sweet. I couldn't even taste the ice cream. The ice cream was fair, not rich and creamy. I didn't finish even half the ice cream, not worth the sugar high and dry mouth. My husband said the ice cream was the same quality as the store's... but more expensive.

If I had been in town more than 2 days I would have gone more. Price: normally I don't mention this because prices are in the eye of the beholder. But compared to my native SoCal the prices here were $1-2 less per drink. A latte and a huge home-baked scone for $10? Wouldn't happen elsewhere. So bravo for keeping prices reasonable. Loved visiting Spokane and this was a key part of my experience in the South Hill.

Our waitress didn't keep us apprised of the status. Other tables, came in after us, were being served. When we asked, she said the pasta was taking a while (one of our friend's meals). I went back for the first time in about four months and had one of the worst dining experiences I can remember. I won't be returning. It was a Sunday afternoon. There were people in the restaurant, but it wasn't busy by any stretch. I had actually recommended it as a place to meet friends, and now I'm honestly embarrassed that I did. Service was terrible from the start. I ordered a glass of red wine and it took 35 minutes to arrive. I drank it, but didn't even consider ordering a second because I knew I'd be ready to leave before it showed up. Waiting 35 minutes for a glass of wine is just ridiculous. Our appetizers came out after an hour and were ice cold. Not slightly cool. Cold. We didn't feel comfortable eating them, but couldn't even send them back because our server never came by to check on us. Our entrees showed up another 30 minutes later and everything was cold or room temp. How do you mess up tater tots? Again, no check-ins from the server until we were clearly done and asking for the bill. To top it off, when we paid, the server returned the wrong credit cards to the table and had charged each of us incorrectly with someone else's bill. Listen, mistakes happen. You can mess up appetizers, food, or even service on a bad day. But I draw the line at waiting 35 minutes for a glass of wine and being completely ignored the entire time. I will not be coming back, and I definitely won't be recommending this place again.
