They insisted I bring her for a third appointment & would not renew her medication. I had in my possession almost a full prescription but it was more than a year old. I like to keep it in my house for when she gets sick. Don't use it often, but it's nice to know it's there. Now that these practices have been taken over by corporations, it seems as though you become part of a quota they must fill. I asked to speak with the doctor & after all the years that I've used them, he wouldn't even give me the courtesy of coming out to speak to me. What a sham this has become.

I asked for an appointment on that Monday as she had been in discomfort for 2 days- they said that their schedule is full and to bring my dog to an emergency room- this costs 3K. Apoquel is known for giving dogs cancer- they wouldnt allow me to bring my dog in after the meds they recommended gave her a UTI. Piss poor management from top to bottom and not knowledgable of specific dog breeds necessities. I contacted another Vet that day who also had a full schedule and they made room for me and my dog. Do not bring your animal to Park Hills- they don't know what they're doing and you will be waiting there for atleast 45 minutes before you are seen.

Its a shame that some people have felt they were treated unfairly by Dr Selmer but I do believe that a thorough examination of your pet with full testing, even though sometimes pricey, will long term bring better results. And I have two healthy happy cats at home to prove my case. Case #1: JB February of 2014, JB, my 12 year old male cat started losing weight rapidly, eating excessively and drinking water like crazy. He went down to 9 pounds! I of course started freaking out and took him to my vet at the time. The vet told me he probably had cancer even though his blood test results came back negative. She told me to prepare for his demise in a few weeks because she couldnt figure out what was wrong with him. She was literally scratching her head with confusion. So, obviously heart broken, I started to search for a second opinion. Then I found Dr Selmer, but since he was on vacation, he referred me to a wonderful doctor at an Emergency Hospital for further testing till he returned. She did further tests and after a few weeks of waiting, JB's diagnosis came back with Irritable Bowel Syndrome which turned out to be totally manageable! Of course, all this testing was not cheap but he's my boy so I was prepared to get to the bottom of his illness. Dr Selmer then took over his care, ordered a nutritional diet and some chinese herbs to balance out his steroids. His whole concern was that JB have a better quality of life and not be so reliant on the Western medicine which can cause damage long term. As of today, almost 2 years later, JB is a healthy 13 pound tom cat playing with his toys and purring away everyday. THAT is only because of Dr Selmers care. JB does have to go in for blood work every 6 months which does cost a bit, around $700 but the results then lead to tweaking his herbs and his food as he ages and its worth it to me to have him in my life healthy and happy. Case #2: Sarah For years Sarah has scratched at her ears. The old vet would check for ear mites, and various issues but could never get to the bottom of her ear trouble. They instructed me to clean out her ears every other day, add drops, you name it. Then they thought she had an allergy to fish or plastic so there went the plastic bowls, to be replaced with glass. Then the old vet finally concluded that "Some cats just get gunk in their ears". Case closed for them. But yet still no relief for my suffering cat. Took her to Dr Selmer after the great results with JB and he asked if he could run tests on her ears for an infection. I of course said yes and then wondered why the other Vets didnt check for that. He said it was because of the cost of the test which was about $300. I agreed to it since we had no other answers and lo and behold, infection was the cause! He put a dissolving ear medicine into her ears which melted after a few days and BOOM, Kitty has no more ear scratching! That was done in February of 2015 and she's been infection free ever since. An integrative approach to Veterinary care is not inexpensive. And it can be time consuming. But for me, the results are what speak volumes. JB was basically left for dead from the old vet. Sarah was finally given up on as well with her issues. Dr Selmer is thorough and gets to the bottom of the issues and it does cost. But if you want the best, sometimes you just gotta pay for it.

I took Summer, my 7 year old Labrador mix to get checked for back pains. Dr.Selmer quickly got to the root of the problem and made a great difference with his remedies. Now Summer is back on the path to her usual lively self! Summer's coat is shinier than ever, and she can go on walks without any issues. Needless to say, Dr.Selmer is a very caring and hardworking doctor. I recommend him to anyone considering visiting him.

West Babylon Animal Hospital & Animal Hospital of Elmont…read more Our cat was brought to Dr. Maddinen at West Babylon Animal Hospital, his ear was bleeding from inside the Ear Canal. Dr. Maddinen did a Biopsy and it came back with Cancer. We were told that he has a "Board Certified" Surgeon that comes in once a week to do Speciality Surgeries. The doctor was Dr. Shaik of Animal Hospital of Elmont. We called Elmont and was told that he was a Board Certified Surgeon, which is not true. Dr. Maddinen told us that our cat would need an Ear Ablation/TECA that Dr. Shaik would remove the Ear Canal (TECA). One year later after the surgery a Tumor the size of an apple grew practically overnight on the side and bottom part of the ear that the Ablation was done. We took our kitty back to Dr. Maddinen in which he gave us Prednisone and Mirtazapine (Appetite Stimulate) he basically told us that there was nothing we could do and the cat would die in 2 months, he threw in the towel and offered no help. Well, thats not what we do with our loved ones. We told him we were going to get a second opinion and needed all the Surgical Notes, Blood work and Cytology reports..he gave us all except the Surgical notes and said that we didn't need them, we told him that we wanted them anyway. After many requests Dr. Maddinen never got them for us. We called Animal Hospital of Elmont and demanded the notes from the Surgery, which they said to call West Babylon Animal Hospital.,actually the notes were never done and Dr. Maddinen wrote them that day, without any doctors names on them, unbelievable and unprofessional. We went for the second opinion to a Credited Board Certified Surgeon and we were told the Ear Ablation, performed by Dr. Shaik was done completely WRONG. This was a botched Surgery by a backroom traveling Surgeon, unqualified to do an Ear Ablation or any other complicated Surgery. We are writing this review to prevent things like this to happen to other Pets by this doctor. Choose wisely for who you want to care for your loved ones..

This weekend he suddenly had a large amount of rectal bleeding and became weak with difficulty standing. His primary vet was closed and the emergency vet in West Islip charges a fortune and I've had terrible experiences there in the past. I recently moved to the area and I'm very thankful this office is so close to me. When I saw they had emergency hours I called and explained the situation and the lovely receptionist (I'm sorry I can't remember her name) quickly told me to come right in. I was there in less than 30 minutes and she took me right into the exam room and helped do the paperwork. The vet and tech were in moments later and took away the suffering my poor boy was going through. They were very caring and compassionate, and I'm so very grateful for how fast they were able to handle everything. I would highly recommend them for general care and for emergencies

Dr Lewis always takes the time to explain everything to my parents and is always gentle with us. His staff is always friendly and gentle too! My brother and I get our check ups and shots and even had our teeth cleaned at All Friends. Poor Antrim had some teeth pulled but he was well cared for and woke up from the procedure ready to go!! If you have a dog or even a cat or maybe something else you should bring them to All Friends so Dr. Lewis and his staff can keep them healthy. Their the best!! Oh and Mini Schnauzers rule!!

Dr. Dave exudes confidence. He gave my wife and me the impression that he knew what was best for…read moreour cat. We trusted him. That was our mistake. He performed a lipoma surgery (a procedure for removing non-cancerous fatty tissue) on our cat, but did not provide any antibiotics or post-op followup to check on our cat's health. The only post-op appointment he scheduled for us was to remove the sutures, which was scheduled for 14 days after the initial surgery. We were surprised, but trusted his process. Moreover, the size of the incision was considerably larger than the impression Dr. Dave gave us for how large it would actually be. The stitch work was mediocre at best. We got a hold of Dr. Dave once we noticed our cat's health declining a few days after the operation. He would not take any responsibility for our cat's post-op condition. For context, our cat's bloodwork was perfectly fine prior to the operation. But after the operation, the bloodwork was alarming. Dr. Dave got very defensive and started speaking disrespectfully. He demonstrated no intention to guide or help us unless we would pay him for additional services. We had already paid him $1,650 for a dental cleaning and what was supposed to be a preventative surgery, which he highly encouraged and insisted would add several more years of life for our elderly cat. Long story short, our healthy cat ended up getting infected with jaundice and dying six days after the surgery. Six days. Think twice before trusting Dr. Dave. His office staff, by the way, were nice and friendly--they were very patient as we tried to find a date for removing the sutures. A+ service at North Shore Veterinary Hospital! My cat was…read morehurt by another cat late night so we couldn't call until the morning. They told us to bring him in any time. We had him there within the hour and they fit us in to the schedule. The people at the front desk were awesome as were the vet techs. The doctor was also amazing and did a great job fixing up my big boy as well as reassuring my daughter who was very upset at the time. I know that the staff probably hear the same things from the people who bring in their pets but they all listened and treated us with kindness and as individuals. I recommend this office to anyone who is looking for a place to bring their pets. We will definitely be back.
