Then why in the HECK do parents let their kids act like idiots in an establishment like this at an event like "high tea". I get it the location cannot control people but put some rules in place for what's expected. Also why in the heck do you have a play area in a room where people are trying to enjoy a relaxing event? Very disappointed. I was there a couple years ago and thought it was cool. Decor is starting to get shabby and not shabby chic. One teabag for the whole pot of tea. Had to ask for an extra cup so we had a cup for everyone. Had to ask for sugar and cream. Sugar served without tongs or other utensil. Speaking of utensils we didn't get any. This is such a cute spot ! You can have your tea time right here in Atlanta. The pricing here is not bad! We ordered a set that was $20. It came with a pot of tea of our choice (many to choose from, we choose Peach Blossom), egg finger sandwich, pimento cheese finger sandwich, broccoli quiche, chai scone, brownie, clotted cream , and jam. If I could give 0 stars in here I would. My experience at Dr. Bombay's Underwater Tea party was beyond disgusting. I scheduled a tea party for 8/17/24 and I discovered rat droppings in the room that I paid over $600 to rent. I informed the shift supervisor and he said that he'd have someone contact me, but as I understand it, their policy is all sales are final and I cannot receive a refund. However, a rat infestation is where I draw the line! I could have taken that same amount of money and had a cleaner and more upscale experience at a number of places in metro Atlanta, but I liked the fact that Dr. Bombay's supported a worthy charity. However I cannot in good conscience support a place that puts its customers at risk with such uncleanliness! This was meant to be a birthday celebration for my 16 year old daughter, but it was marred by the discovery of the filth in their establishment on top of serving us pots of water (there was no tea), and stale pastries. Also, this was supposed to be high tea but there was no service. They just left trays and cups all over the table and didn't bother to check how many guests would be in the room. This was beyond unacceptable and certainly not worth a penny that was spent! Please stay far away from this place for your health! read more

I have never seen a place like this in real life...from the wall art to the Asian style hanging umbrellas on the ceiling to the vintage style decor. I found this place by searching for the best coffee shops in Atlanta and this joint was highly rated and now I see why. I mean even if the coffee wasn't good it would had still been an experience, vibes were immaculate. Funny thing is I didn't even have coffee but instead a nice cup of peach blossom white tea and I'd have to say even though I'm not much of a tea drinker this was so tasty and delicious. They were have a tea party and one side of the shop was reserved so I didn't get to go to the outside area but I will be coming back for more tea on my next visit to Atlanta. Fun, casual and chic! We came here for High Tea - they have fixed times and reservations so I would suggest you plan ahead! No reservations are needed however, if you just want to get some tea/coffee and are ok finding any unreserved table (scarce during High Tea times). For the High Tea party, they had tables set up with a name card to know which table was for who. They can accommodate some large groups - during our time, there were 3 large groups (7+ people) in addition to 2 smaller groups. Don't expect fancy and perfect - this is quirky and casual. Our table had 2 cookies, jam and water waiting for us, until they started service. For 2 people, they provide one tea pot and more for larger parties. We looked at the menu and there were a lot of interesting options. We decided to opt for the Strawberry Chocolate tea. The tea was out first, and I have to say it was lovely. No sugar, honey or milk required. Tea gets cool very quickly so don't pour a full cup so that you can enjoy it slowly. Immediately after that, we got a tower of sweets and snacks: pimento cheese and egg salad finger sandwiches, chocolate scones, red velvet and matcha vanilla mini cupcakes and chocolate brownies. It was a lot but we managed to get through most of it. My favorites were the pimento cheese sandwiches and the chocolate scones (which goes perfectly with the whipped cream). The food was not too heavy (or greasy) and went perfectly with the tea. Moreover, it was freshly prepared... For $17.50 it was totally worth it. Part of the money goes towards women's education and empowerment in India. They have a books for sale, ice creams a la carte and many of the High Tea snacks for sale. Interiors are fun and make for a good overall enjoyable experience. Highly recommend for a low key tea party. I casually mentioned I wanted to go to tea and my sweet bf scoured the interwebs to find this gem. This place is super cute! Bookcases line the walls and umbrellas and lanterns hang from the ceiling. Parking was a little tricky but we ended up with a spot right across the street because someone was leaving. We shared a pot of orange mint tea (I can't remember if it was herbal or white, might have been jasmine, I really can't recall). Regardless of the exact type it was delicious. We were served the traditional tiered feast of finger sandwiches, scones, fruits, and desserts. My bf doesn't normally like scones (I know he's a monster), but he kept remarking how much he liked them here. He also doesn't like pimento cheese (just a bad southerner), but ate the small sandwich with gusto. During our visit the owner and baker came around to ask us how we enjoyed everything AND gave us a sample of ice cream that was so good and refreshing on a hot Sunday. We were stuffed and didn't even touch the top tier which included mini cupcakes, lemon bars, and brownies. So, soooo, so fun for a girls day! High tea is such a cute, different thing to do for an early afternoon celebration or get together. I think it cost between $15-20 per person, which came with a couple pots of tea, lots of little snacks and finger sandwiches. I didn't even eat anything and the experience was entirely worth it! This was pre-covid, because the entire experience was about the venue itself. There are books and bobble and decorations all over the place. It's so cute and eclectic. Honestly, I don't know what the hype was about. We did the high tea and it was really just "meh" to the max. Seriously, I realized I ended up loving the idea of high tea more than the actual experience of it here. First, the place was crowded on a weekday afternoon at 4pm. There were a bunch of people studying on their laptops, and we were seated at a SHARED a table with another party. That already makes it kind of unprivate and wrecks the ambiance a bit. The decor itself was cool on the website, but when you go inside it feels kind of weird. The upside down umbrellas have an effect of lowering the ceiling and being claustrophobic, and the torn up umbrellas make it feel a bit shabby somehow. It's mostly dark inside too, and has a old, musty library atmosphere. What I liked: 1) the tea came in a pretty pot, tasted good and is refillable 2) the plates were cute and eclectic yet clean 3) the clotted cream was plentiful What I didn't like: everything else. It truly was "meh" as nothing elicited a "wow" from me at any point. It was more like, as the food came out, I thought silently to myself "omg, that's it? for real?" The food was a MAJOR disappointment actually. For what we were paying, I expected to be at least filled up. But not only were the portions kind of small, it felt like they used the cheapest possible items to fill the platter up. The cupcakes and brownies were TINY, and looked like they could've come from the bulk discount shelf at Krogers. The quiche was small and tasted microwaved. The egg and pimento cheese sandwiches: Costco could've done way better. The bread was like someone bought off the discount bakery shelf the 50 cent sliced baguette and dumped on a dollop of premade egg salad and pimento spread. Lastly, the scones. Ours came overtoasted and really, really dry. We didn't eat it and kept waiting for the server to come around. Finally when she did, she was nice enough to agree and swap in some less toasted ones--but even those really did not taste all that good. These were the worst scones I've ever tasted, in fact. It wasn't worth the calories to me. Panera and Starbucks had better scones, seriously. And finally, the sherbert at the end was disappointing! They gave us a sample-sized plastic cup, the kind you see at Costco sample booths. Except even Costco gives bigger samples than these. We were offered boxes but neither of us felt it was worth it to take anything home--and I rarely feel that way about food anywhere. I'm always for saving food, and yet here I was done after 1 bite of each thing. If you prioritize patronage of a worthy cause (sounds like they donate some of the proceeds to benefit a women's scholarship program in India) over a quality high tea experience, this might work for you. Like if you've already eaten lunch and don't mind being hungry, you're just doing it for a friend, or just going along with some other ladies who are dying to have a weird high tea experience, go for it. Or I don't know, if you feel sorry for this place and its dry scones, maybe check it out and make a donation to keep it running. This IS the only place I could find in Atlanta that will get you high tea for $17.50. But you get what you pay for. And in this case, I'd even wager to say we didn't really get good enough for what we paid for. In hindsight, I would've just opted to pay more to get high tea elsewhere in the $20-$30 range than settle for a subpar experience. read more

I treated my coworkers here for a team meeting and planning session. I found this place on Yelp and made the reservation conveniently on the Yelp app. My team are tea and coffee drinkers. Previously we had a tea themed meeting at Urban Tea in Alpharetta and loved it. Since we were in midtown this week we decided on Dr. Bombay's. Parking was a slight challenge since they didn't have a private parking lot. Eventually we all located parking on McClendon or side streets. Because we reserved the high tea service, a table was already decorated and reserved for us. The dining area is really charming!! We loved the space and decor! We ordered a variety of teas which were served with steamed milk and sugar and simple syrup. The teas were delicious! The food arrived on a pretty tiered platter with which included mushroom quiche, egg salad sandwich, pimento cheese sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and preserves. The top tier had cupcakes and cookies. It was a lot of food and our group had leftovers to eat later. Service was friendly and the price per person was reasonable. I can't wait for a rainy day to come back and curl up in the back dining area with a book, some tea and a scone. We loved this place!! read more

My favorite Sunday spot! I absolutely adore this place- from the eclectic portraits hanging on the walls, the antique floral china, to the shelves filled end to end with used books, to the cozy feel of the worn upholstery. The tea menu is extensive! Seriously, any kind of tea- they have it. Best part is, it's all categorized on their chalkboard menu, so you aren't left overwhelmed by the flavor options and instead can narrow it down- whether you want herbal, green tea, white tea, black tea etc. My favorite is the vanilla almond tea, followed by their chai tea latte. You can either do tea by the kettle, or by the cup. I opt for the cup usually, as I like to try several different kinds during my visit. Their pstry selection isn't huge, but they are sweet and delicious nonetheless! The outdoor patio area is also really quiet and charming. The whole place caters to passerby stopping in while out and about in Candler Park area, those that have reservations for high-tea, as well as those coming to socialize or study. Snack shop, cafe, reading room... what is this place? Even after visiting I still can't figure it out. I'm not even sure I want to at this point. I came with my best friend and her bridal party for afternoon tea and it was a less-than-stellar experience. We were crowded at a little table in the back and it was difficult to really enjoy ourselves because this dark and musty little place appeared to be more of a cafe/reading room instead of the tea house some of us were expecting. I couldn't help but feel that our revelry was disturbing the people around us who were reading, studying, or otherwise in a less festive mood than we were. In fact, one passive aggressive patron seated right beside our table made it a point to huff and sigh loudly every 15 minutes or so... Petty patrons notwithstanding, this was the worst afternoon tea I've ever had. We were served pots of lukewarm tea in cups that had a strange odor to them. Moreover, the tea had obviously been sitting a while, as clear water ran out upon the initial pour. We made our server aware and she said that she would go back and "steam the pots". None of us had any clue what that meant, but we insisted on new, fresh pots of tea. I don't know why that would not be intuitive to bring your patrons fresh, hot tea, but I digress. We ordered Elderberry, cinnamon cardamom, Ginger mint, and another flavor that I can't recall. For the most part everyone was pleased with the tea, once it was served at the proper temperature. As for the snacks, the offerings included egg salad sandwiches, brussels sprout and swiss cheese quiche, pimento cheese sandwiches, chocolate scones, chocolate cookies, brownies, and strawberry cupcakes with vanilla icing. The snacks offerings were okay. Just okay. I felt that there were way too many chocolate desserts. What's worse, one of the people in our party is allergic to chocolate. She asked if there was anything else that could be prepared for her, and the server brought her out a couple slices of cold white bread. When I say cold, I mean it had been pulled fresh from the refrigerator. I'm not sure what else they may have had available in the kitchen, but it was obvious that the server appeared to have better things to do than try to accommodate a guest with a food allergy. As a self-appointed afternoon tea aficionado, I personally don't feel that it's really afternoon tea unless you have both smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches. I made a concession because we were in the South, but I could not get with that pimento cheese thing. Ugh... gross. The quiche was the best offering, I think. The scones were okay, but they were saturated with chocolate chips, in addition to being incredibly dense. Between the heavy scones and the rich chocolate cookies, I had already had enough chocolate to last me the rest of the year...and I hadn't even made my way to the brownies yet.(mind you, I'm a chocoholic...and if I say it's too much chocolate, you know there's a problem). The cupcakes were flavorless and the vanilla icing was painfully sweet. This was a far cry from an authentic afternoon tea experience. Unfortunately, the lack of professionalism at Dr. Bombay's ruined a bridal shower that was booked months is advance. When we arrived for our event on October 15th, the tables were filled with dirty dishes and leftovers from the previous large party. The contract agreement stated that all items would be prepared and ready when we arrived. We bussed one table ourselves to make sure the bride had somewhere clean to sit. The servers did not serve water until 30 minutes after the event start time (without glasses), served our food trays 45 minutes into the event (without napkins/silverware), and served the tea one hour and 15 minutes into the party. The restaurant has been unresponsive and unhelpful since the event. read more

Had my first visit this morning, and it seemed like one of the team was not on time to work, so I give them a little slack because I was one of the first customers in and they both might have been flustered. I don't normally review, but if you're coming to this shop, I think there's a few things you should know: They have an automatic 20% tip which includes any items you purchase in the shop. They did not let me know that 20% was included so I tipped on top, which brought my total tip almost to 100% of my food purchase. Just something to keep in mind as a customer. At least for my visit, their clotted cream is whipped cream. Anyone who's had tea service before knows that clotted cream and whipped cream are different things. Paying $0.50 for an ounce of whipped cream is very pricey. The scone and shortbread cookie were not to my liking, but that is probably just my taste and not to be counted against them. The cup of tea was excellent. I got the cinnamon plum black tea and added a little honey. And the tea towel from a local artist I purchased is very cute. The shop does have a funky look to it, and when they can open again for tea service it will probably be a cool place to go for others. read more

TLDR/Warning: DO NOT BOOK FOR AN EVENT! This was escalated to the events team and they have not responded. They have shown they do not care about their customers or customer service. I do not like leaving disparaging reviews but this was so unbelievable. We booked the piano room for a private bridal shower and the experience was categorically unprofessional, resulting in a disappointing afternoon for everyone involved. I can confidently say I have never experienced this level of sloppiness and lack of care. Guests traveled from all over the country to partake in the celebration, only to be met with an utterly embarrassing and poorly executed event courtesy of the staff and management. Our event bore no resemblance to the photos of events on Google and Instagram. We arrived 35 minutes prior to 2pm so we would have ample time to set up for the event. When we arrived, we were told that the room was still not cleaned from a previous event but would be cleaned shortly. At 1:50, I had to remind the employee to clean the room. At this point, the hosts of the party began to bus the tables and dirty dishes  ourselves so we could at least have one clean table. At 1:55pm, there were still dirty dishes on the table and high tea was not set up. There were also still patrons in the piano room. Based on the event policy, "ALL HIGH TEA TRAYS WILL BE READY AT THE START OF THE PARTY ON ONE TABLE FOR GUESTS TO TAKE AND SIT WHEREVER THEY FEEL MOST COMFORTABLE." This was the expectation we had for the event - we did not plan to have to bus tables and wait for our event to be set up until after it began. We didn't get water until 30 minutes into the event (had to ask for this), the trays did not come until 45 minutes into the event and the tea did not arrive until an hour and 15 minutes into the event. The most comical part of this was they brought out the utensils and cloth napkins once everyone was done eating and about 30 minutes until the end of the event. We did get a kick out of that. Mind you, all of this was supposed to be set up prior to our arrival. As an "apology" for the inconveniences, the employees offered an extra hour for the event. While the thought was appreciated, that was not a realistic resolution. There were attendees who flew in from all over the country who needed to make their flights home. Mothers had to go pick-up their children from babysitters. Our expectation and desires were to have all services and offerings available within the two-hour window we had reserved for the room as described in the rental agreement. I absolutely loved this place. It's cute, quirky and cozy!! I enjoyed all of the finger sandwiches and desserts. The scones are excellent with the clotted cream they serve with it! The pimento sandwiches are to die for. Now for the teas I loved each and every cup. We tried 4 flavors: lemon chiffon, raspberry, Coco Almond and chocolate peppermint. My favourite was the peppermint chocolate. The place is small so I would not recommend showing up with a group expecting to get a seat if you don't have a reservation. I'd also limit the group to no more than 8. Parking is free on the surrounding streets. I love this place and will be back. read more

I've been to Dr. Bombay's for regular coffee shop visits and it's a fun ambiance as it's uniquely decorated with lamps and umbrellas. I'm no coffee connoisseur so their coffee tasted okay to me and their pastries as well (gotten a slice of cake from the window before). I wanted to make afternoon tea reservations at a hotel but places are mostly serving special Mother's Day brunch instead of afternoon tea that Sunday. Therefore I opted to give Dr. Bombay a try. I made the reservation through the ResDiary http://www.drbombays.com/reservations/ link on their website. I didn't see the time I wanted on the site so I emailed EVENTS@DRBOMBAYS.COM two weeks before my desired reservation date to see if they had any other available slots not listed on the website and no one replied to me. Therefore I picked a available time slot from ResDiary for a very late afternoon tea @5:30pm. I also called their number wanting to confirm the reservation and make edits to my reservation but you get a generic voicemail directing you to their site or facebook site for messaging or their email. No one responded to my facebook message either but I did receive two confirmation emails from contact.resdiary.com which made me feel better. I kept my original reservation as is. When we arrived at 5:30pm, our table was set up with a pretty table cloth and the table setting with a card that had my name on it. I did put in the "Special Requests" field on the online reservation I had wanted one gluten-free option. I was glad when my server confirmed that they had prepared one gluten-free option afternoon tea set (which was a $5 surcharge I was informed of at the time of payment). For the three of us, we got to choose from 2 teas. My favorite gluten-free treat was the cranberry scone, although the brownie was also good. The gluten-free bread was a bit too dry for my taste but the pimento cheese and egg salad filling were delicious. Our server was very nice in the beginning but didn't come back to check on us when we were needing a water refill for our tea pots. When she came back, we were ready to grab our check. Overall we had a good time having afternoon tea at Dr. Bombay's. Definitely more of a hipster vibe compared to Astor Court at St. Regis but it's a more affordable option at $17.50/person compared to $40/person at St. Regis. read more

Finally came back to Dr. Bombay's Underwater Tea Party and it's just as cute and eclectic as I remember it! I'm so happy to see this business still up and running during the pandemic and I need to come visit more often. Los Guidry's Thoughts and Recommendations: - COVID precautions are ok. The staff wears masks, they provide hand sanitizer, and enforce social distancing. My husband and I were here only briefly picking up a to-go order and noticed there were folks in the back room just talking wearing no mask. - Seating inside is available! I don't think this info is on their website. I asked the girl on staff if all the space was open for seating (including the outdoor bench) and she confirmed. She did mention though that if the back room is reserved for a bridal shower or special event then all the tables would be off limits. - Love the Picnic Box To-Go! My husband stumbled upon the picnic box online and we love the concept! For $16 we got tea for 2, 2 tiny sandwiches, a scone, a muffin, slice of quiche, and 2 mini cupcakes. Everything is cute and dainty perfect for a tea party on the go. My husband ( a hungry man) was a little disappointed with the portions LOL but nevertheless enjoyed the experience. NOTE: You must place the Picnic-Box order atleast 2 hours in advance! Like I said before, I'm so stoked Dr.Bombay's is still open. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable sitting here considering a mask policy is not enforced but I'd happily stop by to pick up tea or another picnic box. Hope this helps! read more

This was my first high tea party... and a good experience. Dr. Bombay's is located close to Candler Park and has a small inconspicuous store front. Once inside the shop has an eclectic feel to it. With walls of books, lanterns, paper umbrellas The store isn't too big and sat 3 parties of 6-10 and 2 parties of 2-3 people for the high tea. They also continue serving al-a-carte beverages, food and ice cream during the service time. We came for the 5pm high tea( they usually do 11am, 2pm and 5pm high tea). The tables were already set with mismatched tea set and silver ware and we were seated as soon as we got there. Services starts promptly at 5 pm with some yummy butter cookies. Our server asked us to choose a pot of tea from the choices provided. We got the strawberry chocolate which pretty much had both the strawberry and chocolate flavorings. The eats that came with the teas... oh so divine. Egg salad sandwich, pimento cheese sandwich, chocolate scones, brownies, matcha tea cupcake, red velvet cupcake. All the delicacies are handmade at the store and truly delicious. My favorite was the scone! I could have eaten a dozen of them! The egg salad sandwich was a close second. What I didn't like was how busy the small shop got between their al-a-Carte and high tea parties. It took away from the high tea experience. I wished they had the tea parties at a separate area so as to avoid being disturbed by the other shop patrons. Also, it wasn't as upscale as high tea parties offered usually( in D.C, Boston). This felt very causal with the mismatch silverware, torn table cloth. The food and price made up for this but I felt it took away from what high tea is all about. Overall: a good experience but I doubt I will be back for a repeat. read more

I've had Dr Bombay's bookmarked for a while now and I finally got a chance to check them out. The tea room looked exactly like the pictures online. You feel like you're walking into an old library or an antique shop. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get the full experience because things have changed quite a bit with covid. The group I was with ordered three different teas (vanilla almond, mint green tea, and jasmine jasmine green tea) we thought they were going to bring out big teapots for us to share, but it turns out they were individual teapots on separate individual trays with a chocolate chip scone. I don't eat chocolate so luckily I was able to change to a pumpkin spice scone. I had to wait 30 minutes for mine since they were frozen and needed to be warmed up. I must say I was a bit disappointed in the scone it didn't taste like pumpkin spice at all. The jasmine jasmine tea was really good. I can't say I will be in rush to return. read more

I love tea, I am a self-proclaimed tea snob. Although, I wouldn't say they have the highest quality of tea, nor do they serve it at the correct temps, they have a nice variety and they tasted fine. I went for mother's day with a group of mother-daughter duos. It is tough for me to separate my emotional experience of the day/event from the actual establishment,but I will try my best. As far as the establishment goes, everyone has accurately described the decor, vibe and parking. The service my group received was phenomenal. They were more than willing to answer questions, check up on us and be our photographer. There aren't any vegan options included and very few for sale, but they do offer many gluten-free options. I love what this business does and stands for, but I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the place. The carpet under our table was filthy and littered with crumbs. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Bombay's for special occasions. But probably not as a regular place to chill and drink tea. read more

My friend made a reservation online for 7 people for the high tea well in advance, and she tried calling three times over multiple days to add 2 people to the reservation. The extra 2 showed up anyway because she couldn't get in touch. The server was SO RUDE, even though they agreed to order a la carte. She refused to put out place settings for the other two, and she only put out six even though seven were on the reservation. When the girl without a place setting went up to the counter to ask, the server SWORE she put out seven. We then heard her yelling at someone in the back about how we were"claiming" she only put out six when she put out seven. Like we were hiding the plates and cups under the table? Wtf? I'm not sure I've ever seen a server be that rude to guests. Things got better because the owner came over and offered to add us to the reservation. We apologized for the inconvenience. Unfortunately I was in a bad mood after the issue with the server, so I didn't really enjoy my food or take any pictures. The cucumber mint and almond coconut teas were delicious; and the scones, sandwiches, quiches and little desserts were alright; but the experience was definitely not worth $21(with pre-included tip+tax)/person. I'd say the best thing about the experience was the decor--there are books everywhere and umbrellas and paper cranes hanging from the ceiling. There is also a $1 book rack outside. I saw a sign that said the business sponsors scholarships for 11 girls in India, which is awesome! Too bad their service is so poor. My friend really wants to have a tea party for her birthday, and I thought this would have been a great place to bring her to. Guess I'll have to find somewhere else! read more

My sisters brought me to Dr. Bombay's for an early birthday celebration. I had been wanting to have a high tea experience and was very excited. Our waitress was very patient with us, as we were new to the experience. She explained which teas were most popular and how certain teas fit in the category they were in. I do not remember which teas we chose, but the 2 teas we got were delicious! I am not a tea person but i finished 2 cups each of the 2 teas we chose, which was very surprising. The finger sandwiches were mediocre and the scones were a bit too dry. The quiches were very delicious and the brownies were pleasantly sweet. Later all the waiters and waitresses surprised me with a birthday song with a candled cupcake! They were all so sweet and made my first experience of high tea special. I will for sure come back when the perfect occasion for high tea comes up! read more
