I'm sharing my experience so others can make informed decisions. Based on my text conversation with this office, I asked very detailed questions upfront before agreeing to a $500 consultation. I specifically asked whether the doctor could match or exceed my current implant size (over 1000cc), and I was initially told he had experience with these sizes and could accommodate my case. After that, I continued asking more specific follow-up questions to confirm exactly what implant options were available. Once I asked for a clear, specific maximum size for Mentor implants, I was then told the maximum was 825cc -- which directly contradicted what had previously been communicated. At that point, the information completely changed once I started asking for specifics instead of general reassurance. When I pointed out the inconsistency, I did not receive any further response. This made me uncomfortable, especially since I was being encouraged to move forward with a paid consultation before having clear and consistent answers. During my research, I also came across publicly reported legal matters involving the doctor, including allegations related to billing and procedures. While I understand allegations are not the same as proven wrongdoing, it made transparency even more important to me. For something as serious as surgery, I strongly recommend asking detailed questions upfront and getting everything in writing (text or email) so you have documentation in case of inconsistencies. A Cautionary Experience with This Surgeon I had an initial consultation with this doctor, and at first, the experience was great. I brought my husband along, and the doctor confidently reassured me that he could correct the flaws in my nose that I was unhappy with. He even sketched a visual representation of what my nose would look like after surgery, which left me feeling excited and hopeful. He also cited a study indicating that the accuracy of his drawings compared to actual rhinoplasty results was between 85-90%, which gave me further confidence. I left the consultation feeling reassured and eager to move forward with the procedure. The Red Flags Began During My Pre-Surgery Video Visit; Fast forward a couple of months--I had a scheduled video consultation with the surgeon to go over pre-surgery details and ask any last-minute questions. However, the moment we connected via FaceTime, I could immediately tell he was dismissive and impatient. His demeanor felt rushed and uninterested, as if my call was an inconvenience to him. As I began to ask my questions, he repeatedly cut me off mid-sentence, barely allowing me to finish a thought. His responses were quick, dismissive, and laced with an air of assumption, as if I shouldn't have concerns at all. At one point, I asked a very reasonable and fundamental question: "What procedure am I getting done?" His visceral reaction to this question was shocking. He immediately responded with a condescending tone, saying: "What do you mean?" I clarified: "I mean, what surgery am I getting? Like, is it a septoplasty?" He mumbled off the surgical procedure names and then said something that left me stunned: "Patients who don't have a background in plastic surgery don't need to know this information because they wouldn't understand it anyway." At that moment, I felt completely dismissed, belittled, and disrespected. I was about to undergo a $27,000 surgery, and yet, he couldn't even take the time to properly explain the procedure in simple terms or ensure that I was comfortable. I left that call feeling duped but also incredibly grateful that I had seen his true colors before committing to something so major. If a surgeon cannot take the time to properly explain the surgery, the risks, or the expectations in layman's terms, how can you trust them with your body? If they are so dismissive before surgery, how will they treat you after? Will they ignore post-op concerns? Will they even care if something goes wrong? Final Thoughts: Know Your Worth as a Patient I am sharing this to empower other "everyday patients" you deserve to be treated with the same level of care, patience, and respect. Never let a doctor make you feel small or like an inconvenience. Even if he is known for delivering great results, that does not outweigh poor communication, condescension, and lack of patient care. I received "care" at both of his locations in Newport Beach and Beverly Hills 1st post: I had a revision rhinoplasty with Dr. Jay Calvert. He promised he'd get me the nose I was asking for & talked about his extensive experience and that he's a spokesperson at events for surgeons. I came in there with specific goals to only change the shape of my nose, not the size. Not only did he not change the shape of my nose like we agreed, he made it smaller, 1 alar extra smaller than the other. Cut off tissue from an awkward place on my nose bone and left it like that, saying it could grow back on its on. My breathing is worse. Our agreement was he'd do as many surgeries until getting the job done since it's a lot of work but he's become reluctant to fix his botching of my nose and what l initially came for. He keeps extending the surgery when I finally convince him to fix his errors, from 3 months, to 6, to year, & now a year and 2 months. Every day I see him, he speaks to convince me to keep the even more botched nose he gave me and reassure me that it looks great and it'll look better in a couple of years, more like save him some time to not to do what he promised nor fix his errors. He made my nose look like a deformed pig nose. 10 months after the procedure he also admitted he'd never done nor does what he initially, and confidently promised to get done in the consultation for this procedure. $39,000 down the drain. He's supposedly going to fix everything in January, I'll update y'all on the process. Update: My update is I requested my records and on the day they were mailing me my records they informed me they were discharging me before finishing the job and hung up. I emailed to ask if they are refunding me my money and they didn't respond. I just want to share with everyone that I do not recommend this place to anyone. The surgeon knew I was extremely invested in fixing my nose and at the time of the consultation I was taking medicine to help with my emotions. The surgeon not only saw me cry multiple times at the bad results especially after he tried saying I don't need another surgery (even though he botched my nose more and deviated from our agreement), he tried to convince me that I have body dysmorphia so I don't insist he correct his error nor finish the job, and after the surgery saw me having panic attacks after he informed me that he doesn't perform nor have experience in half of the goals we agreed on. And by the way, I didn't have body dysmorphia. This experience has caused me emotional and physical suffering. The surgeon does not care. He will push you out, then convince you that he will do the job to buy time to later free himself from the job. The reason why I'm adamant about sharing my experience is because of the mental health suffering my experience with him has triggered more on me as l used to have it under control before my bad experience with him. Thankfully I have a team to help me on that end to deal with the emotional distress that has come from getting my surgery botched from him. Not everyone overcomes mental health especially when it's triggered even more from an experience like this. With that being said, I wholeheartedly will say that I would never in my life refer someone to him, especially if you really care about your results or wellbeing. An accident here and there is human, as a professional one takes accountability and fixes it. But this is too much, I had to speak up. read more

He is arrogant at best! I went in for Liposuction & mentioned I had no tip on my nose from my previous nose job, just in conversation. He convinced me 'he Loved to preform surgery more than anything' & I should also have my nose redone to add a tip. I could not breathe for months. He finally opened one side, but COVID occurred, and we had an appointment to open the other side and the day before he told me I needed a Covid test. Back then it took up to a week to get results. I have my surgery set for the 31st of July, so far so good! Dr. Calvert is a really down to earth good guy. I look forward to seeing and feeing the results of his work! 8-6 post operation week 1 - where to begin.....???? Dr. Jay Calvert is just purely perfection, he cares about his patient, he has passion for his work, and let me tell you he's very good at what he does. His communication was continuous he even went above and beyond to ensure I was doing well after the surgery. This was my second repair attempt, the first attempt was a massive fail and caused more damage to my breathing (not done by Dr Calvert) it was done by Dr Tran in Westminster an ENT specialist whom I went to see for breathing issues. He suggested lifting my tip and shaving my nose a little. In the end he demolished my nose and my left nasal collapsed, Dr Calvert had to take cartilage from my rib to repair the collapsed nasal and facia from behind my ear to fix the botched shaved job. Dr Calvert not only changed my life by allowing me to get actual oxygen into my body through my nose (no more mouth breathing) but he made my nose look amazing and gave me my confidence back. I used to sleep horrible 5 hours a night maximum and now I'm sleeping deeper and longer! He gets my highest recommendation and utmost respect for what he does. I needed a revision on my deviated septum. I went to another doctor that wouldn't touch it because it WAS a huge mess. The doctor recommended Dr Calvert as an option. Dr. Calvert specializes in the impossible cases, and he is a specialist for a reason. He not only fixed my deviated septum, he repaired a hole in my septum that he wasn't promising to fix, and did rhinoplasty on top of it. He did need to use a piece of cartilage from my rib cage to enforce my new nose, but the procedure was so well done, recovery was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. His office staff were more than professional, caring, kind, and made the whole procedure, and follow up appointments very easy. I wish I had pictures to post of my old nose, but I don't have any before pictures, because I hated my nose that much. But I can assure you, that the end result is an absolutely perfect nose that fits my face perfectly. And I have had no problems with my recovery since the surgery. The scar on my abdomen, where he took a piece of Cartlidge out is healing nicely, and overtime the scar will fade. I am completely happy with the end result, and I would recommend Dr. Calvert for anybody who has a difficult nose to repair. Particularly any nose that needs a revision. Dr. Calvert has some decent reviews and a few horror stories. I met with him twice for a Rhinoplasty. My condition is partially covered by insurance but his cash-only business will never interact with an insurance company. He quoted me $29,000 for a Rhinoplasty making him the most expensive plastic surgeon out there. Is he that good? I will never know as he is too arrogant and greedy for me to ever find out. He also bashes his competitors during the consultation. Even if he is as good as he states, I would not give a person with his character my hard earned money. I recently had a primary rhinoplasty with Dr. Calvert. I am currently 6 weeks post op and have come a long way in the healing process and I am just so HAPPY! My daughter moved to Atlanta to train for a professional sport; we do not have family or friends in the city. My husband and I flew out for a long weekend to visit her, see her train and help get her settled. Unfortunately, my daughter sustained a serious injury (of career-ending magnitude) and our weekend plunged into emergency-mode. The injury had the potential to scar her for life and we knew we had to act fast. We contacted the one of the leading plastic surgeons in Newport Beach, California, Dr. Jay Calvert, for advice. Though he was in Dubai, Dr. Jay Calvert immediately connected us to his colleague in Atlanta, Dr. John Connors. Without hesitation, Dr. John Connors asked for preliminary information to begin assessing the magnitude of my daughter's injury. The continuation of patient care long after surgeries has been done is glaringly obvious and a true blessing that cannot be measured. To reiterate, he was out of the country and potentially asleep when I called; it would have been fully justified for him to miss my call. He didn't just point me in a general direction, he made personal phone calls to create a smooth transition for speedy and thorough care. This experience has exemplified all the different ways a plastic surgeon can support you; not just cosmetic upgrades but injury recovery. I can't emphasize enough the value of researching your plastic surgeon, these are situations no one ever considers, but our relationship with Dr. Jay Calvert over the past 15 years has proven to be extremely invaluable. I got a breast reduction 3 weeks ago and Dr Calvert did an amazing job. I flew from MS to CA for this surgery because of Dr Calvert's reviews and reputation. I had minimal pain and discomfort for maybe first 3 days only for which he had given me enough pain medication. Dr Calvert was able to reconstruct my nose which was a very very difficult case to take on...working with scar tissue, bone fragments, etc. He was able to shape my nose beautifully. I have to say I love its new shape even better than my nose before my accident, as the accident had pretty much obliterated my nose. He has also been following along with my care shortly after my accident taking part in previous surgeries, as well as a very difficult case to come in regards to the corner of my mouth. I started going to Dr. Calvert to remove the liquid silicone that had been injected into my lips. It took a number of years to migrate and deform them.This was done in Palm Desert at "Lips by Lucy."
