I went to see the doctor because I was experiencing numbness on my ring and little finger as well up shooting pains in arm all the way up to my neck. I did 3 sessions as it was recommended at 150.00 or so a session -quite expensive.. They don't accept insurance of any kind. It didn't give me relieft after the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd session.. And I certainly wasn't going to drop any more money. For me it was a waste of money.. I went to a PT who told me about the Chin Tuck and after doing that exercise for a day the numbness and neck relief went away.. Dr. Griffin was nice but was not warm and welcoming.. I didn't realize until my visit that Katie is 1 of only about 50 directional non force chiropractors in the United States and we are truly blessed to have her here in Santa Cruz. Dr. Griffin is unusual in that she's a chiropractor that actually seems to be most interested in getting your issue fixed so you can get on with your life, as opposed to setting you up with a bunch of appointments so you can fund their life. Her technique is somewhat unusual - no back cracking or weird machines you need to be strapped into here. You lay down on her table and she gently prods the problem area to determine how you might be mis-aligned then uses subtle pressure to correct it. Here is what I like about Dr. Katie Griffin 1) She is only interested in helping her patients get well. Many in her line of work make money by treating the same patients for the same symptoms over and over again. Dr. Griffin constantly needs new patients, because her existing ones are healed. Katie quickly diagnoses what is wrong. If she can fix it, she lets you know up front how many sessions it may take and how close together those sessions should be. If DNFT treatment won't help, she tells you what treatment you need and who the best local providers are. 2) She is completely reliable, and her office runs like a Swiss watch.. Rarely have I had to wait more than ten minutes past my appointed time. Twice I have forgotten my appointment and received a call from her office a few minutes later offering me a same day re-schedule, which is amazing considering how may patients she sees every day. 3) The sessions are brief, to the point, and pleasant. Katie is highly skillful and empathetic, so I feel relaxed. 4) The office is beautiful, comfortable, and serene. 5) Her rates are very reasonable. 6) I never have to wait for insurance company approval or fill out any insurance paperwork, because she doesn't accept insurance payments. The unfortunate thing about reviews is they are often only done when someone has had a really poor experience, or a really excellent one. This is the case with ALL of the yelp reviews I see for this chiropractic. They are all 5-star, which should really be a giant red flag. Anyway, onto my review...which isn't great. Over the last year I've lost some of the side to side range of motion in my head due to a car accident and sitting at a desk all day. It was painful to turn my head, so I came to see this doctor. I had heard such GLEAMING reviews about how amazing people felt after going to see this chriopractor. I was really excited for my first visit, although hesitant about the $150 price tag for 45 minutes. I had no relief after the first visit, second, third, or forth. I personally wasted over $500 on this type of chiropractic. While I think that it *MIGHT* work for some people (placebo effect?) it DID NOT work for me. Mileage may vary, so to speak. I also found the doctor to be very unfriendly at times. Her husband, the guy who works at the front, seemed really great. Until I had to cancel an appointment and I got the wrath of hell for not calling 24 hours in advance. He made me feel guilty about not calling ahead of time and that they were "turning people away to keep my spot open". Not good business practice... read more

I've been a fan of non-force chiropractic for years so I was delighted to find Dr. Griffin and recommend her to a friend who is in a lot of back pain. After 3 visits and more than $400 in fees, my friend has had no relief. That was definitely disappointing but sometimes things don't work. I'm sorry to say but this chiropractor was 100% ineffective in helping me. Her "method" of treatment seems odd - logically it makes no sense. However the power of suggestion or placebo effect can be strong! I suspect that this is what her treatment is all about. In reality none of my symptoms went away.....no matter how hard I tried to convince myself. As others have said Katie charges a lot! However anyone suffering from pain would likely feel ok paying any amount if relief occurred. However when one is not helped it is natural to feel a bit unhappy with her high prices. As the old saying goes, "Anything that sounds too good to be true, probably is not true." That would be the case here. I want to add also that if Katie honestly thinks she has a 94% cure rate and really cares about her patients, then the supposed only 6% she does not help, she should give them at least a partial refund. Her words and actions show that she just cares about manipulating people out of their money. I really had hoped this would work and after 5 visits and $510 later I felt no improvement at all. Katie claims to be able to align you in very few visits at $95 a pop and that her adjustments hold. Since she never got me in alignment nor did I feel any improvements at all, I think I should get some sort of refund. I called her and asked for at least half my money back. She refused and the excuses why she thought she couldn't give me any money back were terrible. This is just bad business. She seems to only help minor acute problems that probably could be fixed going to an acupuncturist for a fraction of the price. This place just seems greedy and out to make money and they don't care if it works at all for you. Don't claim you can do something if you can't and if you make claims you don't live up to then refund or offer something viable. It's not like she can't afford to give me a refund. Please. I think this is just plain unethical. In my practice on the rare occasion when someone is unhappy I offer to remedy it or give them their money back. They don't even have to ask. Because I do this even the few unhappy people I work on refer people to me. People appreciate honesty and generosity. This is all I will tell you: you've found THE best chiro in town, if not in the entire NorCal region. Now, this is NOT your typical snap-crackle-POP chiropractor. Dr. Griffin employs the Directional Non Force Technique (google it) which means NO cracking, snapping or popping. (so if you're uncomfortable with someone suddenly twisting your neck where you look like Linda Blair in the exorcist, until it CRACKS, then this is the doc for you). I am not an expert at what she does, but I do know that she uses very light touches to sort-of gauge how your nervous system, ligaments and bones respond and then she begins her magic. I admit that the first few visits -though fascinated by the technique- I would wonder how on Earth can my body respond to such light prodding and 'manipulations'. I didn't really see the Earth shatter with what she was doing for those first couple of visits, BUT!!! Everyone knows that it takes a few visits for the body to adjust to its new groove and then you start realizing that shazam!, you are not feeling that pain anymore, or boom!, you can now bend without wincing anymore. Holy moly, it's awesome. I was used to having to go to a 'regular' chiro who would always do the same daggone thing on me: twist my waist (where they put your knee to the other side of Jamaica and then twist until you crack), crack my neck by snapping it, check my atlas, and then send me on my way until "next week" to do the saaaame thing over again. I didn't know any better, but I did that for years for 'maintenance. Well guess what? You go to Dr. Griffin a few times (an investment, yes, but daggone worth it) and your alignment will hold for waaaaaay longer than your typical chiro visit. Waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy longer... With Dr. Griffin, you will NEED to initially go maybe 3-6 times for her to cover and adjust your entire (I really do mean ENTIRE) body, as needed. (what's the use of just adjusting your neck, if your back is what was mucked-up; or adjusting your atlas and neck, when it was your FEET that were mal-aligned? yes, it's that detailed) She will adjust your skull, your face, your arms, your hands, your feet, your neck, your back... you get the idea. It's a full-on, complete body adjustment. Once your sessions are completed, you're on your way to not return again, buh-bye... UNLESS you have a recurring gig where someone like me, who wrestles a gorilla every day (ok, it's just a 31 pound toddler i need to care for and pick-up daily), needs to go for a re-adjustment every few months. (not weekly or monthly like other chiros). If you believe that your body has the power to heal itself with professional adjustments (and you realize that it takes more than just one visit to allow your body to truly get aligned) and you're tired of the same ol' chiropractic care from regular chiropractic technique, then I'm telling you, Dr. Griffin is your girl. She is professional, she's black & white, on-time, extremely thorough, gives you the information you need, the exercises to continue your healing, a web site with blogs and videos to support you, has a network of other practitioners in the area that can complement your healing (i.e. acupuncturists, nutritionists, etc.) she is understanding, and she takes your WHOLE into account when treating you. I'll tell you this much: I trust Dr. Griffin's technique and knowledge so much that I am considering having her become my main go-to doctor. Is it pricey? I have been going to see Dr. Griffin for many years. The DNFT method she utilizes is a gentle way to get you bones and ligaments realigned properly without trauma. She does not practice the "one move fits all" style of chiropractic. Typically I need to go 2-4 times until everything is back where it should be. This is because if you have a misalignment or subluxation, the body compensates by pushing something else out of alignment. You now have secondary subluxations and maybe even tertiary subluxations. Think of a road that needs to go in a straight line to get from point A to point B but now it curves to the right, well to get to point B it must curve back to the left somewhere along that road. you body does the same thing. For this reason being adjusted by a chiropractor is alot like peeling the layers of an onion. The Chiropractor just can't see the deeper problem until the secondary and tertiary ones are resolved. I personally have chronic upper back issues made worse by my profession and activities with my children ( picking them up). With other chiropractors I have gotten stuck in the go every week rut and barely maintain alignment. With Dr. Griffin I will go 1-2 times a week until the problem is gone, (again 2-4 times is usually enough) then I may not need to go for months or even years. Dr. Griffin really is an expert in her field. We know chiropractic can't help everyone but I am sure I have found the best chiropractic practitioner in Santa Cruz county, and I have been to 7 or 8 before I found her. When I have a problem I call, even on a Sunday, and the office gets back to me quickly. She is typically very busy but is always able to get me in within 48 hrs. On occasion when I have told her the pain is really bad, she has stayed late and fit me in after hours. She genuinely cares about helping her patients. My quality of life is so much better since I have been seeing Dr. Katie Griffin. If you have an issue that would benefit from chiropractic, she is the only one to see. read more

I first met Dr Katie Griffin about 10 years ago. I was dealing unsuccessfully with some back and neck pain, & had been seen by another Chiropractor whose methods were quite painful. Katie Griffin is effective. It's the simplest way to put it. I recently was treated by Katie for a back that flares up from time to time. I had been seeing a more traditional chiropractor for about a month and the back was actually getting worse. I was continually exhausted from the chronic pain. After the very first visit, my energy level was noticeably higher. In about 10 days, I was cured (5 treatments) and I've had no recurrence. Her technique is fairly unique but highly effective. Thanks to Dr Griffin my 18 MONTH OLD BABY now "sleeps like a baby"!!! I had friends telling me "ohhhh mine sleep through the night" and "oh yeah sometimes you just get a baby that's a bad sleeper." But after 18 months of waking 3-5+ times per night, I was exhausted (husband too!). My son used to bang his head on lots of things: couch, crib mattress, crib railing, any pillow in the house, tile floor (ouch!), my head, my shoulders...you get the point. I found Dr. Griffin three years ago and she has changed my whole life! I was suffering from painful hyper-mobile joints (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) and chronic headaches. My headaches are practically non-existent now and though hyper mobile joints cannot be cured, my pain levels are significantly reduced.
