This place is my go to place when I worked at BI and BCH. This place markets their food by vigorously giving out free samples. They have decent food for a chinese food in foodcourt. Their orange chicken is mostly sweet but if you want more savory taste ask for their spicy chicken and the non spicy chicken. Their beef and broccoli are excellent too. They also sell noodles from their former neighbor, noodle king. Noodle king has excellent noodle/ramen for 15-16 bucks. The servers and staffs are very friendly and have good attitude in general. Before I get started, I think this review needs to include a bit of history. In the past, Dragon Bowl had a storefront and right next to it was a storefront for a place called Noodle King (check it out at https://www.yelp.com/biz/noodles-king-boston). It seemed that they were two distinct restaurants, but when you ordered for Noodle King, you ordered at the counter of Dragon Bowl. Fast forward to now and Noodle King's storefront is shut down but their menu is still available to order at Dragon Bowl. So this review is specifically a 5/5 for the food from the Noodle King menu that is now served at Dragon Bowl. I did not eat the food-court style american-style chinese food at Dragon Bowl - I ordered at the counter and got the items in my photos using the menu also in my photos. And when I did, I saw there were a good number of other people who had done the same, all giving each other silent nods and "it's a bit of a wait, but it's worth it" comments. It did take about 5-10 minutes for my food to come out of the kitchen, and yes, it was worth it. I got the Spicy Xi'an Hand Pulled Biang Biang Noodles with Pork and they were amazing: Spicy Xi'an Hand Pulled Biang Biang Noodles with Pork ($15.98): The price may seem a bit high for a food court, but it's well worth it. The braised pork is melt-in-your-mouth and falls apart into absolute heaven when it enters your mouth. The bean sprouts are nice and crisp, and the bok choy gives another nice crunch to the dish. The noodles are a mix of thin silky noodles and thicker bouncy ones, and they definitely look hand pulled as they have a lot of inconsistencies which makes eating the dish more fun. The sauce is a chinese vinegar based sauce with soy and plenty of chilis and garlic - it was quite spicy but still really tasty and balanced. The portion size was also huge - I eat a lot and I still had a bunch of leftovers (not for a second full meal, but for a filling snack). If you were to enter the Longwood Galleria, you probably won't be able to avoid the staff at Dragon Bowl trying to give you a sample of their food. If you haven't already, I would suggest giving it a try! Dragon Bowl gives hefty portions of their dishes with their combos and is always pretty good. Do they compare to an actual restaurant? Unfortunately not, but considering that they are a stall in a food court, their options are pretty good. I've tried a variety of their dishes and my favorite has to be their fried fish. This place is like a slightly more expensive Panda Express but with more authentic Chinese options alongside the typical "orange chicken" type entrees. They have a special combo which lets you choose between fried rice or lo mein, orange chicken or teriyaki chicken, and it comes with sauteed mixed vegetables. The styrofoam container gets packed with food and it's about $8. The rest of the menu is food court style where you can choose between the number of entrees you want and pay based on that. I tried the combo described above, and everything was what I expected of a food court Chinese-American station. It may be that I ordered during peak lunch hours when the food on display had a more frequent turnover, but I was honestly super impressed by the vegetables. They were extremely fresh and crispy. The other items were nothing special. The orange chicken was drenched in sauce and oil, and the fried rice just tasted like oily soy sauce. Having visited the Galleria for lunch many times, I'll have to say that if you're looking for Chinese food then you might as well try Noodles King next door. Their menu, although pricier than Dragon Bowl, is more authentic and they make most of the dishes to order so you're guaranteed something fresh (instead of being served something that has been sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long). I've been coming here for almost 8 years, I always order the same thing (mapo tofu and noodles), and I don't understand why this place has such bad reviews. Sure, it's in the Longwood cafeteria (which is kind of gross), but I've always been impressed with the mapo tofu. Spice level is low, but there's authentic peppercorn in there... you can feel the numbness, and that signifies that there's a decent level of care that goes into making the food. I have been going to Dragon Bowl for years. Located in the Longwood Galleria food court, it's right next to Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. If I'm in Longwood between classes or in a rotation and craving food court food, Dragon Bowl is my go-to stop. The food is standard Chinese food court food. Greasy, salty, and covered in sauce. Their flavors are pretty tasty though, and they give you a good portion size for around $6 or $7 - I can usually split it into two meals. Their orange chicken is one of my favorites - crispy and covered in sauce. I also love their pork belly dish that comes with mustard greens over rice. They give a lot of slices of tender pork belly (probably around 10 or so) that has a good ratio of fat to meat, and the sauce soaks into the rice and vegetables to give a nice flavor to the entire dish. read more

Considering it is in a food court, Dragon Bowl is not that bad at all. I actually quite like the spicy chicken with green beans and the eggplant. Have also tried the korean chicken, orange chicken, beef and broccoli. Meat is tender and flavorful and veggies are quite good too. I ordered last night for a party of five before we headed out for the night for NYE. Let me begin by saying, if I had simply checked Yelp before ordering, that would have save me more than $80.00. Never again, folks, never again. The only silver lining to our order was the delivery service. I ordered through Foodler and they were stellar. Even sending me an email today asking what was wrong with my order (since I gave each item such low ratings). First, the restaurant falsely advertises that they have 2 liters of soda on their menu, when in fact the place doesn't carry sodas at all. Not entirely clear if that was just because they ran out (which I think is very odd) or that they just don't carry it at all. In any event, Jose from Foodler called me first to let me know the restaurant didn't carry 2 liters (as they list on their menu). He edited the order with two 20oz bottles. But then, Eduard, the actual foodler delivery person, upon picking up my order discovered they didn't have any sodas at all. He was kind enough to either stop on his way over or supply me with seven cans of soda out of his supply in his car to make up for it. This is why I gave HIM five stars. My main issues with the order was that the restaurant charges you a lot of money for the actual portions and quality of the food you get. I've had better quality food from some hole in the wall places that have gone out of business around the corner from my place. There was hair in the house fried rice so we threw it out. The crab rangoons were gross. You only get four per order and they weren't crispy at all. The coverings were strange, more like an empanada rather than a typical crab rangoon (crispy wonton). The filling was 95% cream cheese, very little crab and tasted like fake sweetener. I requested extra hot mustard packets (because we all love the chinese hot mustard) and got four tiny packages. Really? They gave us much more soy sauce and weird duck sauce (which was a waste because we threw that all out). The egg rolls were slimy on in the inside and tough as hell on the outside. They tasted like they had freezer burn. So we threw them out. The sesame chicken wasn't horrible, but it lacked flavor and lacked any crispiness to it at all. Most chinese take out places give you an entire rectangular take out tray of food and give you the rice in a separate small take out box. This place cheats you by serving you in a split rectangular take out tray where they give you a lot of rice. The boneless spareribs were mostly fat, very little rib and tasted old. We threw them out. Beef with eggplant mostly had eggplant and very little beef. And again, this place cheats you by serving you in a split rectangular take out tray where they give you a lot of rice. For the prices, you pay, you do not get what you order. I ordered enough food that, from all other chinese restaurants, would have fed five folks with definite left overs. Sadly, none of us were satisfied and we left for a new years eve party still hungry. I'd hate to say this, but thank goodness for burger king! In any event, Foodler did nothing wrong here. The service from foodler was terrific, but it must be embarrassing for them to carry this restaurant in their options. DO NOT DO IT folks, DO NOT DO IT. read more

Well, yes, I realize it's a food court's Chinese food eatery, so my review takes that into account. Generic name that has some overused "Chinese"-stereotype word (red, emperor, lotus, jade, dragon, lucky, etc.)? Check. Food that makes your arteries want to roll over and die? Check. No MSG, though (I think, so don't quote me on that). And don't give me the line about "healthy options," such as steamed rice, steamed vegetables, and a bottled water. If you want "healthy options," why are you at a grease pit like this? Employees who barely speak English yet get you through the line at lightning speed, all while trying to upsell you despite the fact that the portions are huge and you can't finish it all? Check. It's pretty interesting watching the line here. Many of the customers are patients/family of patients. But a lot of the customers are clearly hospital employees or other people who work in health care, and some of them have the decency to look slightly embarrassed or stare at the floor so people don't recognize them. Just man up and say, "I live in America, land of free will and choice, and I choose to indulge today." Compared to similar Chinese eateries located in food courts (yikes, the fact that I can even say that phrase makes me wonder if I have been to way too many), the food is not that great. I suppose the best way that I can describe Dragon Bowl is with the Rihanna/Ne-Yo song "Hate that I Love You". I patronized Dragon Bowl for lunch the first week that I began working in the area. And yes that means every day that week, Mon-Fri. I was drawn to their $7 2 entree combos with rice or noodles. Definitely get the noodles. Sure it's greasy. But then again you're in a good court... So deal with it. Getting your own food is very streamline: you get in line (which is always long) and have paid after 6 minutes. I will say outright it isn't "good food". I don't dream about Dragon Bowl chicken when I'm going to bed, nor do I smell their kitchen every time I think about chinese food. Chances are you're at Longwood food court by necessity, and Dragon bowl just happens to be a good option. Be warned. Their food is obviously not healthy, so don't be fooled by the number of people in scrubs waiting in line. I'm pretty sure I gained a pants size after my first week. Pretty good sized portions, but still rather expensive for my liking: a two-dish combo (with rice) and a bottle of water will set you back around eight dollars. The orange chicken can be very tasty on some days (not so much on others), but I find the rice to be kind of dry...although duck sauce fixes that problem quite easily. Beef and broccoli, egg rolls and chicken fingers are all solid but standard affairs. The miso soup was really yummy, and I want to make my own really badly now. :3 The tofu dish was a nice size, but like I said.. celery? Strange!
