Well , I was in the mood for some dumplings. I stopped in at lunchtime ... place was hotter than Haiti . I assume a/c wasn't working and 99 degree day. Even the cook brought out a fan to cool his table as staff had their lunch. At least he was cooled done a bit while sweated like steer. Well , was committed ; so too late to convert to a take out meal in my Lamborghini or someone's else's. I ordered the ribs on spinach, pork egg rice, spinach and egg dumplings pan fried . The ribs were tender, actually very good in a flavorful sauce. The spinach in the sauce excellent ... I needed a lot more spinach. The egg pork rice was freshly prepared and was very good . The spinach egg dumplings were a first time for me type experience and these were excellent... pan seared perfect fresh tasting... these would be good for breakfast with a breakfast maple sauce on a waffle and bowl of fruit...or a spinach smoothie. My ice water melted from the heat . My dumplings would have steamed themselves in the heat. This visit was much improved since a prior visit months back. Ribs were beyond my expectations. Service was fast. I wanted soup and a side app included in the lunch special. I have been to their Cambridge location and that is excellent . read more

Good food. Good service. Owners always greet me when I come to pick up takeout. Always enjoy a meal there. Ambiance is modest

I was up in the area and I was hungry and I thought this place looked pretty nice from the outside. I did try opening the door and I almost thought it was locked. The front door was very hard to open went inside. They had a really nice clean seating area . Everything was pre-done so plates and silverware. We're already on tables done ahead of time. Not sure if that's good or bad depends on how long they sit out in the open I would've liked to have ordered something that had all a complete meal together, but I missed the luncheon Specials which made or forced me to order separately. It came out very quickly all packaged in the bag cause I was taking out and I paid and when I paid, I almost passed out with the price. I'll add the slip to the review out of the entire meal. I had the crab Rangoon when I was in my car cause I was hungry. I didn't feel like staying at the restaurant the crab Rangoon were excellent waited till I got home for the entire rest of the meal. Add a whole container of pork fried rice started to have a little bit on that one and I didn't find any pork in it, but I did have some vegetable stuff in it so that was kinda OK but it'd be nice to have pork unless it's at the bottom, I haven't gotten that far The general Gau's chicken was very rubbery and it all stuck together as one clump in my takeout not sure if it would've been any better eating in the restaurant but I've had some very good takeout from other restaurants and this just wasn't it like I said the chicken in it was very rubbery and stringy. It did have broccoli three pieces in the takeout. What I really was looking for was one single container with general gau's chicken Some pork fried rice with a couple of crab Rangoon's. I'm not local, but I do travel there due to my jobs. This is one place. I probably won't make an appearance again due to the takeout quality of the meal. So if you're looking for a really good crab Rangoon, they definitely did a great job on that And maybe it would've been better as a eat in situation rather than a takeout situation read more

Big menu with lots of options, I decided to get the szechuan dried spicy chicken. This thing clearly packs a punch and not for the sensitive to spice. Chicken is great and I enjoyed it. I'd probably share it next time so I could try more but a great meal and would try more from here. Very authentic Chinese food. read more

Good spot for authentic Chinese food. The restaurant is a bit dated but clean. The service team is not native English speaking so they can give off a different vibe. Generally they are nice but focus more on being effective. They have two tv's going through out the dining area. There are two large tables for bigger groups. The other tables/booths are suited for groups of four. I recommend their salt and pepper wings. They are so good, crispy and flavorful. The other dishes are fine as well. Despite the name, I'm not a huge fan of the dumplings. I admire their other dishes and their attention to being allergy friendly. It's one of the few places we can go. read more

This is an interesting little restaurant with a decent menu- not going to please everyone- perhaps... but I liked it very much. I came with 1 other diner and we left happy; ordering pork and chive dumplings, hot and sour soup (not great, but not bad), and a lunch special- the rice was really good that came with it. The Hot and Sour soup was pasty like gravy and was incredibly disappointing. The Mango Chicken was unseasoned chicken strip with what tastes like canned syrupy sauce which was sweet but no flavor. Great place in the burbs west of Boston for soup dumplings! There were 4 adults in my group. We had soup dumplings, pan fried bao, spicy string beans w/ pork, steamed fish with scallions, & rice cake with pork & cabbage. We ordered a nice variety and had leftovers. On a Wednesday at 6:30pm there weren't many diners in the restaurant but there was a steady stream of takeout orders. A simple, casual vibe. Dumpling House is a great hidden gem in a little strip mall on Walnut street in Newton. There was plenty of parking. Restaurant appeared very clean. Staff was friendly. The menu is huge. Mostly authentic Chinese dishes. Not your typical American style Chinese food. The food tasted extremely fresh and full of flavor. I started with a small hot and sour soup with shredded pork. It was large enough for two people. Very traditionally prepared with wood ear mushrooms, golden needles, tofu, pork, scallions. It had a very nice complex flavor with a big kick that would clear out anyone's sinuses. Soup was delicious! My first appetizer was the jellyfish with garlic. This was like a salad with the jellyfish cut in thin strips with a solid but not chewy texture. The dish also had cucumbers, carrots, sesame seeds and plenty of garlic. Delicious! Next I had one of my favorites appetizers. Crispy fried pig intestines! If you have never had this, step outside your box. The outside is crispy with a texture like bacon and the inside is a soft moist delicious pork flavor. This dish is amazing! For my entrée I had to go with the pork and crab soup dumplings. These were full of soup, flavor and makes the whole trip worth it! Soooo good! If you are looking for quality food that's different from the American PuPu platter, check this place out. In a landscape of nominally Chinese food from Panda Express to various local dragon/mandarin/wok joints, this place stands out as one of the remaining locations directly related to the famed Dumpling House in Chinatown Boston. Real heritage, with snow pea leaves to die for (the true gem at the original location). After the downtown location closed just after the pandemic we started eating here and it's on our regular rotation. Typical yelp reviewers don't understand eateries like this one, and Chinese folk who know don't use yelp. This is one of those ethnic food places flying under the radar. American-Chinese dishes are not the fare to order here. read more

Very tasty Chinese place with plenty of dumpling options obviously. I found the taste of the cabbage and pork pan fried dumplings a bit peculiar but good (it might've been the sauce which seemed a bit strong). The lo mein and sesame chicken was also very good. This place has amazing dumplings and Chinese food! We had pork soup dumplings, salt and pepper fish, and pork udon noodles. Everything was amazing! The fish was fresh and perfectly fried in a light batter, then tossed in scallions. spicy seasons and garlic, which makes it very flavorful. It comes on top of lettuce. Which you eat together for amazing textures. The udon noodles were good, with shredded pork and cabbage with a nice soy flavor. One of my favorite foods is soup dumplings! It always intrigues me how the hot soup and meat filling stays in the soft thin dumpling skin until you bite into it. This place does it perfectly! I talked to the really nice owner and he says that they make it fresh every day and you can really tell by its exceptional quality. We are so glad that we came here and look forward to coming back next time we are in MA. read more

3.5 stars. Shanghai noodles were pretty standard, tasted a lot like lo mein with udon noodles. Pork buns were a little too doughy for my taste, but the filling and the dipping sauce were delish. Crab rangoons tasted a little different than I'm used to at other restaurants, but they were still tasty, and the sauce was unfortunately just a duck sauce rather than the usual plum sauce at other establishments. read more

Kenny agreed even though it was less than 24 hours advance notice and called me to check on a couple of details, which was great. They helped me get them to my car and were so nice. Used to be my go to but they DOUBLED THEIR PRICES! This happened pre-inflation. $13-14 apps, entrees soaring way into the 20s. Happy to pay for quality but this just got out of control relative to what their prices used to be and relative to other comparable restaurants. One of the great things about this type of cuisine is being able to sample so many different flavors without breaking the bank. Impossible here now. Really a shame. Can sometimes be inconsistent depending on who's in the kitchen. Dishes can taste completely different from night to night. Good dumpling variety but the xiaolongbao is only so so. Wrapper is doughy...much thicker than other places which do it better. Could go on about quality of food but this is supposed to be a somewhat negative review. Which pains me because I love this place so much. But just straight up price gouging right now and it's really disappointing. Head to Jean and Lee's in Upper Falls for similar experience at much better prices or try Chung-Shin Yuan in Nonantum. Different style but excellent. read more

My rating is not for the food, but for how a medical situation was mishandled at the restaurant. While waiting for our food order, my child was stung by a yellow jacket inside of the restaurant. He was in upset in severe pain and his hand swelled on the spot. The staff at the restaurant did not offer ice (I had to ask for it), nor did they say apologize in any way. They did not offer to discount the order or offer a gift certificate toward a future purchase. Instead, they handed us the yellow jacket in a takeout container. I was appalled. For a child with an allergy, this would have been a call 9-1-1- immediately situation. If you or someone in your family has allergies, beware. This restaurant did not blink an eye with what happened. We will not be giving them our business anymore. read more
