We had almost lost hope. The Chinese restaurants in Billings were so bad. A friend suggested the Dagon Palace on W. Main St. in Laurel. My friend said it is not the most fancy place but the food is amazing. She was right. The place was not fancy, but it was comfortable and amazingly clean. The smell upon entering was heavenly. The woman who greeted us was so friendly and made us feel instantly welcome. I ordered the Sesame Chicken and my husband ordered the Happy Family. The Crab and cheese wonton had pieces of actual crabmeat and both entrees were wonderful. The meals seemed a bit expensive until you saw the size of the portions. We could have split an entree and had leftovers. If you want fancy, don't go. If you want great Chinese food in a clean, comfortable atmosphere, by all means go to the Dragon Palace! If anyone thinks this is good Chinese food, they don't understand good cooking. The food is not fresh, it's bland and greasy. I have never had such horrible food. Both the previous owners and the new ones do an "American" version of Chinese cooking and it's terrible. Mitchell SD has a Chinese restaurant next to the Comfort Inn called Twin Dragons. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and I was disappointed that they were out of duck, but the supply chain is an issue everywhere. This place has the best egg drop soup ever. I really enjoyed the slivers of water chestnut in the soup. I had an individual combination dinner with moo goo gai pan, an egg roll, crab angel, and fried rice. It was all good. OK, my daughter and I call this the scary lady Chinese food place however I think that she can be nice. She is just so busy(?). Anyway we like the food here, surprising to have a Chinese restaurant in a small town like us. My favorite(s) are the Aromatic chicken or shrimp. Sometimes her husband comes out and he is just a doll, even when she is chasing him back into the kitchen. LOL Yes the place could use a good cleaning or maybe removing of some items. Laurel Montana, right? Traveling from Indiana who would have thought we would end up in a Chinese restaurant, but we were in the mood for something other than burgers or steak. I love Chinese food and have eaten my fair share, and this might be the best I've ever eaten! I had the Kung Pao Shrimp combination dinner, and it was so good. The worst experience, for us, by far was stopping here. The restaurant was just dark and dirty. Slow service and rude waitress/ owner. She embarrassed one of my boy's because he didn't order fast enough. Food was tough and bland and cost $70 for the 4 of us to leave and go somewhere else. Soup was lukewarm, everything was swimming in a nearly gelatinous sauce, including the "plain" lo mein noodles we ordered for the kids. I went to order food here for the 11th time since moving to montana and wanted to try the almond chicken. When I received it it was not what I was used to, it was kung pao chicken with almonds instead of peanuts. I was very polite and apologized to her and told her this was not what I was used to, could I please select a different item, she started screaming about how she was from california and this is how they do it. I told her I realized this, but could I please have something else, she continued to scream at me in public about how she has been doing this 15 years, I had to repeatedly try to hush her without yelling to calm her down. She refused to sell me food anymore, gave me my cash back, and asked me to leave her restaurant because I wanted something else, and had asked her to please stop yelling. Decided to give Chinese a try on the way to visit family in ND. This is with my wife and four kids 2 yrs to 10 yrs old. Seemed like a safe enough bet being a smaller town and having a group of Montana license plates parked outside. Upon entry... We notice that there was no "special" posted anywhere- a trademark of most of the Midwest and small restaurants. Also, notice that things don't appear to be very clean or contemporary. Not filthy just kinda grungy. Prices seemed a bit more reflective of what I would've expected in a more metropolitan area(and fancier restaurant) not central Montana. The main waitress (owner? Chinese lady), seemed to severely lack personality and could easily be described as just plain not nice. She seemed impatient and had demeanor that put me feeling like she really could care less about us as clients. The soup order was messed up (we didn't say anything), the soup was at palatable temperature but almost for sure below the required 140 degree holding requirement. I almost never not finish what is put before me, but the soup just was not very good. The rest of the food arrived quite quickly, and was only what I would call "ok". Rice seemed to have an off flavor, orange chicken, and another chicken dish rather bland, seemed to be deep fried then smothered in sauce as an attempt to bury a deep fryer off flavor. Redeeming food component was a beef and rice noodle dish that was fairly tasty. Food quantity was decent but probably not as much as some of the other Chinese places we frequent. The tab was calculated wrong (that or wrote so badly we couldn't tell the difference), I paid cash with a more generous tip than they deserved; just so we could leave quickly. Right after the rudeness we felt during the order placing, we contemplated getting up and walking out; kinda wish we would have. Subway or PizzaHut would've been better. We will for sure pass this one by next time thru. read more

My family has eaten at the Dragon Palace for many years because we love the food! It's one of the best Chinese restaurants around as far as the quality of their food goes, and definitely one of the best restaurants in Laurel. Plan to take some of what you order home, because you get lots of food! The wonton soup is wonderful, and the sesame chicken is amazing. "Miss Amy" (the owner, along with her husband) can come across as abrupt at first, but she is a crackup -- and very sweet -- once you get to know her. read more
