I ordered through Grubhub. The food was subpar at best. I ordered chicken chow mein. A dish with noodles as the main. It didn't even have noodles. A ton of bean sprouts. And super runny. I always love how incredibly hot our food is when we order out. It comes so nicely packaged and its never in a dirty container "sometimes take out is has grease everywhere". we have eaten at golden phoenix off and on for years. It has been steadily declining in quality while increasing in price. this last order was inedible because the meat was tough and the amount of oil in our entrees. i make better stir fry at home that is much healthier. we were also charged an additional fee for delivery, on top of the original fee and tip, AFTER we got the order. There is no mention of additional fees for distance on their website at all. this was the last straw for us. never again. read more

My wife and I went to this place a few months ago to have lunch. There were not many folks in there eating so we waited to be seated. As we waited I counted two attendants and another at the bar talking with someone behind it. After waiting almost 5 minutes I turned to my wife and said we'll go elsewhere. These people do not have any customer service at all. We have not been back since and will never go back. We've recommended against this restaurant to our friends as well and instead go to Shanghai Village off of 2nd street where you get immediate seating, a very friendly staff and the food is a lot better than that of this restaurant. read more

I went here for the first time today. The guy who waited on me acted very much like I was ruinning his day. No smile or any cordial components to his PR at all. We have eaten here for years. Always have had great service and good food. Tonight we had terrible service and when I say terrible. The guy drug his feet literally for the first 15 minutes we were there. 2 tables of people got up and left. My husband had to ask him to stop and take our order. We also her the f-bomb come out of his mouth when more customers walked in. I understand being understaffed but rude is just rude. He picked the pace up after we heard screaming from the kitchen. My sweet and sour chicken was great but my husbands sweet and sour shrimp had some grey looking shrimp and some fresh looking. Worst Chinese food I've had in my 62 years, no exaggeration. Badly flavored sauces, barely any broccoli OR beef in the Broccoli Beef dish (full of carrots, zucchini, celery, etc. instead). I was pleasantly surprised when my mom offered to take me to lunch and we went across town and found this place. We were late arriving for the buffet but had it anyway and they even restocked some of our favorites. I was impressed by the amount of food and the varied selection. Going during the busy times would have been even better. The food is mediocre. Food took a long time to arrive and when we got our food we were missing both our sides. Called to see if they would bring our sides or refund some of the meal. The lady on the phone proceeded to argue with me and call me a liar claiming she put the sides in the bag when there was no sides. This went on for about 15 minutes when she finally agreed to a refund...a $2 refund. I have never had such poor customer service in my life. I just wanted my fried rice man. Will never order again. Service? Exceptional, our waitress was very kinda and I could tell she was doing her best. The food? Absolutely f-ing disgusting. I ordered a $15 entree and I received rubber chicken from SYSCO and a pre-made sauce. My partner ordered beef. Just as rubbery. When I think about going to get Asian food and I see 4.5 stars, I'd expect nothing but (more) authentic than Panda Express. Should have just gone there instead... All of that being said, it wasn't the cooks, or servers fault. It's whomever is charging ridiculous prices for inedible food. Shame on the owner and their money hungry actions. read more

Went last night with my daughter, she was in the mood for Chinese food. Since we were on 24th we decided we'd just stop there. We should have just kept going. What is the point of saying that the dish is spicy hot if there is no spicy heat?! The crab angles were your typical wonton stuffed with a lot of cream cheese, some crab (I'm imagining) and carrots. My daughter's sweet/sour chicken was nothing spectacular. I will give them a thumbs up on the speed of the food arriving at our table, however I'm still not sure I got what I ordered! General Tso is rolling in his imaginary grave. Waitress came over a couple of times and stared out into space when asking how our food was, then walking off before you could even answer. Not too many years ago Golden Phoenix was one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Billings. I took the family here tonight and it was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. With 3 kids and 2 adults we will order 3 plates and share them. So there was variety and this review isn't based on one meal. Egg Rolls: Not sure how to describe them.. meatloaf mixed with a few shreds of cabbage and deep fried into oblivion. Definitely not an egg roll, not sure what they were trying to accomplish. Garlic Chicken ingredients: -red bell pepper -water chestnut -minimal chicken -garlic, garlic and more garlic (yes it's in the name, but seriously there was more garlic in this dish than what an Italian restaurant uses in a month) It was bland with absolutely no spice (although it is supposed to be spicy) The Mongolian beef may have been made with pieces of rubber that resembled pieces of meat. Again, no spice and a sauce that wasn't sure if it wanted to be gravy. Hot and Sour soup. AGAIN, no spice and tasted like a mix of beef and barley and cream of mushroom soup. Gross. The Sesame chicken tasted like the overly breaded chicken had spent most of the day marinating in grease. The sauce tasted like if one was to put vinegar in gravy. Horrible. Either the A/C was out or they were saving $$ because it was rather warm in there, not hot, just like being in a house with a swamp cooler when it's 105 outside. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. She seemed genuinely concerned that we did not want to take the leftovers (which was literally 3/4 of each entree) home. I will say the bathroom was clean since I had some time to contemplate that while I was throwing up (seriously). There are a few decent places to go for Chinese in the Billings area.. I would avoid Golden Phoenix even if someone else was paying the bill. read more

The best service I've ever had!! Sweetest lady reminded me of my grandma. She was helpful and always smiling. Food was excellent too. She packed our left overs up and threw in plates and silverware for our hotel room along with huge to-go drinks and ice. She was talking to table over aboit how great the owners are to her...and it's nice to here an employee brag about their boss instead of talking crap and looking like they hate working there. Disgusting! We ordered delivery for lunch at the office, it showed up 10 minutes after I hung up the phone. I guess they get a point for speed, but how fresh could the food be? I made the huge mistake of ordering their sesame chicken. It was just nasty. This was the worst meal I have ever tasted. I literally could not eat it, it was that terrible. The shrimp lo mein was dry. I have never in my life had dry lo mein.
