Cancun Mexican Grill is located in the Gateway Commons strip mall next to a bank. The menu is a small spiral binder because there are so many menu options. I ordered the Birria Tacos because it was only beef tacos in the Taco section of the menu. The birria tacos are made with slow cooked beef. It was a little chewy and my corn tortillas were falling apart. I had to resort to eating them with a fork. I later ordered tacos for a friend to-go and I was shown the ala carte section at the back of the binder with ground beef tacos for purchase for one or three tacos. I believe those were better than mine with hard shells. The service was fine. They were very quick in bringing our food. We started out with chips and salsa. I would have liked individual saucers for the three of us so we weren't continuing to dip our chips in the same bowl of salsa. The restaurant is a nice size. They have plenty of seating options - booth, table & chairs and a bar area. Tip: Look for coupons in the local paper for $7 or $10 off.

Upon walking in I was charmed by the staff who were VERY nice (and offered me lots of gelato to sample as I waited for my order!). LOVED both but my favorite was definitely the calzone. If you're a fan of a gooey, cheese situation you're gonna love it too. Also the portions are HUGE! I got both for us but we could have split one of them. Each was double what I expected and we had leftovers for days! The gelato was also excellent. They offer several sizes, including pints, perfect for taking home and stocking the freezer. They didn't have the flavor I wanted pre-scooped in the cooler (the cherry stracciatella) but they kindly hooked me up. So good!! Speaking of coolers, they also have another cooler stocked with a ton of beverages, including some fancy imported Italian sodas (many I had to look up while I waited since I didn't recognize them). They also have a few dry goods. Not a ton but a few some bonus goodies like pasta sauces, olive oil, jarred preserves, etc, to pick up when you stop in to grab dinner or dessert. Actually, 2 days in a row I had that pizza. I also enjoyed the Vanilla Latte from the cafe, and for a normal latte -- it was way better than I expected it to be (South Lyon isn't known for its coffee) .
