There is also a playground that feels like a mini version of Magical Bridge Playground. The indoor science museum is full of hands-on, interactive exhibits. Everything is designed for kids to touch, explore, and play with, so they can easily spend a long time here. In the back, there is also a beautiful view of the bay with telescopes to look through. If you have a membership from another participating zoo, you may be able to get 50% off admission. There is an $8 parking fee to enter the park. There are lots of picnic tables nearby with a great view of the bay. You can watch the boats on the water and planes flying overhead while having lunch. Definitely a great place to spend a few hours with kids!

Instead of a large setup with lots of different animals competing for attention, this gave the kids a more personal, hands-on experience with the bunnies. They were able to slow down, interact with them, and really enjoy the experience in a way that wouldn't have been possible with a traditional petting zoo. From the very beginning, the booking process was seamless. They responded quickly to my inquiry, answered all of my questions, and made everything incredibly easy. Their website clearly explained the different packages, and we chose the smaller package, which still included 10 adorable bunnies--more than enough for our party! The staff was absolutely wonderful with the children. They were patient, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the rabbits they care for. They shared fun facts about each bunny's personality and habits while encouraging the kids to gently interact with them, build trust, and bond with the animals. They made each child feel special by pointing out when a bunny seemed to like them, which really boosted the kids' confidence and made the experience even more meaningful. They brought everything needed for the setup, along with a huge variety of bunny-safe treats that kept the kids engaged throughout the event. We increased our knowledge of the animals and of the farm but also got to feed them. We also had the opportunities to get close and personal with them for pictures. They were all friendly and fluffy. I recommend this unique experience for all because if you do not just break your usual pattern to stop and smell the roses or to pet and feed an Alpaca, life will pass by before you know it. We stayed in touch over the next several weeks before settling on an August date. We braved the high temps and winding roads to arrive at the ranch. It's a beautiful space on a hillside and you can see the herd and their guardian llama as you pull into the parking lot. We learned a lot about the alpaca life cycle, fed the boys, and my daughter got to hold and carry a cria. We bought two cute alpaca shaped soaps. I didn't experience any of the negativity others have complained about. It is a working ranch so it's not a petting zoo or a tourist attraction. Go with the flow and you'll have a great experience.

SF Zoo makes for a surprisingly fun date day…read more We arrived right at 10:00 AM opening, and I highly recommend going early. We caught several animals around feeding time, and by the end of our visit, we had seen probably 90% of the animals that alone made the admission worth it. For two adults: $31 per person -- active duty & veterans qualify for resident pricing $20 parking $82 total for admission + parking Skip the $1 online convenience fee and buy tickets at the entrance. There's also free street parking along Sloat Boulevard if you don't mind walking. The Dinosaur Exhibit is an extra $9 per adult and definitely worth it. A little childhood nostalgia and fun for all ages. We spent about 4 hours exploring. The zoo was clean, easy to navigate, staff were friendly, and the animals we saw were active and appeared well cared for. You can also bring your own food, so next time we're packing snacks. My only confusion was the $20 parking. When we left, the exit gate was already open and our ticket was never scanned.

There was a line at the ticket booth on Saturday afternoon, but it went fast. Interaction with staff was minimal during my visit. Zoo admission is pricier on the weekend, plus they charge extra fees for special exhibits like the current Dinos Rule, which is geared toward kids and made up of animatronic dinosaurs with minimal movement. I was disappointed to find that the Australian walkabout and entire section of the park was closed off (except for an enclosure with a single koala), as this was where the temporary dinosaur experience was located. In addition, some of the animals were missing from their habitats including the snow leopards, komodo dragons, and wolverines. Even the family farm was closed while I was there. Luckily, there was still plenty to see and explore. Checked out the ostriches and a group of giraffes up close feeding on some plants, the gorilla preserve (there was not much action in here), madagascar lemur forest, the chilean flamingos, amphibean alley with axolotls, california red-legged frogs, and a california tiger salamander inside, western santa cruz giant tortoises, western pond turtle, magellanic penguins with a lovely setup on penguin island (the cute creatures posing for visitors), sleeping lions, giant anteater, pelicans, rhinos, american black bears yogurt hunting in grizzly gulch, grizzly bears in a separate space munching away on romaine lettuce scattered around, a sloth, green jays, and several species of parrots in the south american tropical rainforest & aviary, mexican gray wolves, horses, a bactrian camel, and bornean orangutans. There was also an insect zoo on site, a small stuffy room with creepy crawlers on display including a desert hairy scorpion, mexican rustleg tarantula, hissing cockroaches, and more. Took a break and grabbed a beverage in the Leaping Lemur Cafe, an easy transaction at the self-order kiosks. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating here. I was happy to find an outlet near the tables inside to charge my phone. Besides viewing the animals in their environments, there were other activities and offerings at the park like animal statues in the sculpture learning plaza, a playground and exploration zone for kids, a carousel, animal rescue center, caricatures, face painting, train rides, a giant baobab (tree of life) replica, the national tree of Madagascar, and beautiful artworks including The Jane Goodall Singing Tree of Love mural, part of a peacebuilding project portraying the connection between humans and primates. Other things to note... there were seemingly just as many strollers as there were animals in the park, so be prepared to navigate your way around these. Also, there weren't many food vendors on site. I just saw two cafes and a small ice cream cart. This zoo is not as engaging as it used to be, but there was still a lot to appreciate during my time here.
