So I get emails from time to time when this tea room holds special events and I really wanted to try the hobbit theme tea party and so glad I did! I took my daughter and mom and the experience was quite enjoyable. The tea room has changed a little since our last visit....more tea room setting, theme music was playing in the background and the food was excellent this time around. Everything we had was delicious and we all really enjoyed the tea we selected. I would have given 5 stars but my dad couldn't join us due to pain in his feet (he's elderly) but I still had to pay for his portion which was fine since his portion was packed up but he didn't get any of the cheese we got nor did he get the biscuit with the jam and cream.....really disappointing since I did pay for everything on the menu for 4 people and my dad would have really enjoyed those items. We came to this restaurant for an (Elevensies) birthday tea to party. We made reservations in advance and everything was ready when we arrived. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was very friendly! They helped us with our tea questions and we were surprised at the amount of food there actually was... not just good food but DELICIOUS food (Cottage Pie). The portions looked small, but with so many nibbles we actually found ourselves with leftovers (which we took home). The Hobbit theme was carried through to the staff who wore elf ears... nice touch! Adorable! This place is just so cute, and offers something unique to our area. We stopped by for breakfast; I had the avocado toast with poached egg and my friend the eggs benedict. She declared her dish the best EB she's had. My egg was also poached perfectly. We both ordered scones as well, as they looked so good, and we weren't disappointed. They come with two sides and I got the clotted cream and honey to complement my mocha almond scone. My masala chai was lovely, and my friend really loved her white tea. Update: my mother and wife attended the tea room today. Their experience was very different from mine. Based on conversations with others in town and other reviews here I have come to believe that the woman who snubbed me is the owner of the establishment. Her incredibly horrible service stands as an example to her employees of what not to do. However. Mom, wife and five-year-old daughter had a delightful time at the tea room. They praised both the food and drink as well as the exceptionally warm and friendly service offered by one of the younger members of the staff (fortunately they did not have to interact with the owner). They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would absolutely repeat it. I'm still only giving this place two stars because I'm still really upset by the way I was treated by the business owner. But it has definitely redeemed itself slightly in my opinion. End of update --- Hope my guests have a better experience than I did. I ordered two gift certificates online, then called ahead to make sure it was ok to stop in during the Mother's Day weekend (I called as a courtesy because I knew it would be busy). I was told that this would be no problem so I headed right over. When I walked in I was immediately given the sense that I didn't belong there. I was not greeted or asked if I needed help. I took it on myself to approach the closest person who appeared to work there. I told her that I had come to pick up the gift cards that I had ordered online. The first thing she did was look me up and down as if I had come in off the streets without showering for a week. I was wearing work clothes, definitely not dressed to be in the space but I was on my way through in a hurry--and still a paying customer. I've rarely seen someone actually physically turn their nose up at me. In the theatre we would call that a contrived reaction but this lady no joke looked directly down her nose at me. Next, she said "I didn't get an email about any order." So I pulled out my phone and pulled up the confirmation email that I had received and showed it to her. She looked at it for a couple seconds before acknowledging that it was legitimate. I now had the distinct feeling that I was being vaguely accused of trying to steal $50 from this place. Ugh. Then she says, "did you want me to make them out to these people," indicating the people for whom I had ordered the certificates. Understanding that I was taking up time during a busy holiday season, I replied "I can fill them out if you'd like. Or you can, whichever is easier for you!" No response. She took my phone with her and filled out the certificates. Then she handed them to me with a simple and unconvincing "thank you." I said, "thanks so much, have a good day!" She just looked at me without a response until I left, just as uncomfortable as when I had walked in. I get that I don't maybe fit the type that would normally walk into this kind of place, but boy oh boy what a disappointment in terms of customer service. I'll be back to update after my wife and mom have used the gifts that I purchased them. If things go well for them I'll be sure to let you know. If not, I'll have a lot more writing to do read more

This is the absolutely worst example of a tea. The concept is there. Cute decor, but, the food was horrific! Tea sandwich bread was dried out. Flavorless egg salad, bitter, lifeless, cucumber fillings. Scone looked and tasted nothing like a scone. Undercooked, flat, pale..awful! As for the desserts...it only gets worse. Bread pudding, hard, cold, looked more like a meat pâté. Tasteless. Shortbread cookies were completely wrong. And, there were some blueberries with pieces of stems thrown in, and soggy, chopped strawberries. The service was unwelcoming, although we had a reservation, with a credit card guarantee! This place is quaint and cute! There is an assortment of different loose leaf teas to choose from including house blends. Many of the teas are packaged ready to take home too! There are also many adorable tea related items for sale (teacups, pots, mugs, etc). Reservations are required for participating in the "course meal" (tier server). The website states you don't need a reservation if you're coming in to order from the cafe/tea menu. However, when I came in today, there was no staff, only the owner who limited the menu options to pots of tea and desserts (totally understandable). The tea I ordered came at an appropriate temperature and was flavorful. The dessert was delicious and was presented well. The dining experience I had was OK. It was very relatable to some of the other negative reviews left here- complaints about the server (owner). I hope she reads this review and considers this observation/advice: I understood that she was short staffed and had to take it upon herself to do 4 jobs all at once. Maybe that's why she wasn't so friendly. Maybe serving isn't something she normally does, but had to. I saw the hiring sign on the door and on the website. I also read the "no tip notice" on the back page of the menu. That should be reconsidered. The page said something along the lines of assurance that the staff is getting paid enough and instead of tipping, leave a review. I have worked in the food service industry and can say from my experience, I can't imagine the owner can afford to pay an hourly wage worth working there for no tips. Maybe that's why there is a staffing issue. There needs to be that incentive to motivate staff to have the extra "pizzazz" customers expect. Also, I was not a fan of the Christian music in the background. I expect a teahouse to be playing classical, instrumental jazz, or music having to do with the monthly themes. I believe changing the music would add much more to the ambiance. I will come here again for the monthly themed tier server experience. I had such a lovely time at the Narnian themed tea in January. The food was delicious and the selection was outstanding. Everything on the menu was truly yummy. Judy offered both traditional items (scones, egg sandwich) and non-traditional items (sardine bruschetta and Turkish delight). $26 seems hefty, but we left full and happy after spending special family time together, and that's worth it to me. The only thing I wish they had was more options for those with dietary needs. If you like milk in your tea but do not drink dairy they do not have dairy free milk alternatives. Such a cute little place. They ask that you don't tip as their employees are adequately compensated and should reflect with the service. My sister is vegan and we had mentioned it twice. We gave her a pass because she was busy sampling tea for us and may have forgotten in the process. I had mentioned it once more after she set our pots of tea on our table. Once the goodies made it to our table, she pointed out only two vegan choices out of all of the treats. I chose to patron this business for a long time. I thought it was such a great addition to the community. The employees gave me some of the best service. As time went on I could see how exhausted they seemed to be. Clearly understaffed every time I went in, usually on weekends. Often there was only one person working up front and someone from the kitchen who came and went from helping in the front to the back. Despite this, they always tried their hardest to give the best service they could, although being clearly overwhelmed. I became friends with a couple of the employees and came to find out that they're missing paychecks spanning all the way back to June of 2019. One employee mentioned that they are missing 9 (nine) paychecks. I also found out that another employee was fired because they refused to serve moldy meat that had been pulled out of the trash and had mold cut off of it. I am writing this as a PSA for anyone considering eating there. For your health, I recommend avoiding this place at all costs. read more

They do not respect their posted hours. We arrived at 3:10 PM, after driving 20 minutes just for this stop. The sign on the door said "open.' The posted hours said "10-4." There was a woman behind the counter... but the doors were locked and she avoided eye contact. We watched from our vehicle writing a review and as we watched, she flipped the sign to "closed" at 3:24pm. My fiance and I want to start having an evening tea as a way of winding down in the evening and having a bit of social time that is scheduled and not interrupted by screens or phones. We wanted to ask questions about types of tea and brewing, purchase a kettle and some strainers for loose-leaf tea, and try a few tea types as recommended by the staff. We were willing to pay a bit more for some expertise and a nice tea set that we could take pride in. In fact, we talked about this the entire trip over.
