This place has great atmosphere, great service, and great beer. I wouldn't really go to a place like this for a gourmet meal because beer is what they do best, and they have perfected it. But, they do have food and they do it well. It's sort of a strange out of the way location that looks from the outside to be an industrial building, but step inside and it's awesome. Very casual crowd. Sometimes it's too popular and too packed even though where it is! This says everything about the place though. If you like micro brews, give this one a try and do yourself a favor. Let me start by saying that i LOVE Dragonmead. Final Absolution is one of the best beers. If i were reviewing the beer i would give 5 stars, but the service was horrible. Our bartender was absent the whole time, i waited for about 10 minutes before i was served (it was a weekday afternoon with few people there), and i just didnt like the bartenders attitude. This place used to be great. You could stop and pick up some delicious food of your choice, and enjoy some great beer with your friends in a nice atmosphere. Then, for whatever reason, they decided to team up with Lazybones BBQ to enhance their menu. Now, they don't let you bring in outside food, even if it's from Lazybones. This wouldn't be so bad if their food menu wasn't awful, or if their kitchen could handle the orders, or if they didn't constantly run out of the items on their menu. Every time I go there anymore they are out of something that I want. They also can't staff to handle their load. I was with a decent size group who dropped almost $400 worth of booze, and the service we got was abysmal. Our food took over 45 minutes to come out, and since no one was allowed to bring in food, we were starving. I think this is the last time I visit Dragonmead. I really hope they reverse their decision on outside food. read more

This is my favorite Micro Brewery. I've been going for years...it's a place I meet up with my friends, for some serious chatter, and catching up. My favorite is Final Absolution. I don't get anything else...ever....just two...and I'm a happy lil camper! This last visit was the first time I'd been since they added food..and I got some kind of hot dog, and loaded waffle fries...it was good, I honestly don't remember too much about it (hmm..maybe there were 3 Finals..lol) but you don't come here for the food...or you may in the future, I don't know, but I do know one thing, the beer here is unparalleled! read more

$&@! I said I would never go here again but a traffic jam on 696 made me very thirsty so in I headed to dragonmead. I crossed my fingers and rubbed my lucky rabbits foot that the service here would be different than my last two visits...... Apparently my good luck charms don't work. Regulars first, then people who flag down bar keeps, then invisible people, then me. I wish I hated the sin eater beer then I could write this place off for good. Maybe they should bottle it then I could support my habit from a retail store. Alas the only place to acquire sin eater is in the walls of the service less dragon. You have to try it once, but like another reviewer said, you should go back at least 2-3 times because it will grow on you. Dragonmead is the best, but you have to like and know how to appreciate good beer (and not Miller Lite). My husband and I brew beer, so we appreciate just how much work goes into having almost 100 different varieties on tap. My husband and I like to pick up a pizza/ thai food and take it in before the crowds hit (before 9PM) and have some dinner and some good beer. They will even give you paper places, utensils and napkins if you bring food in. They are brewers and that is their first priority, so they don't waste time on the food. Final Absolution is very good, but it puts me on the floor. My favorite is raspberry wheat that they have and Erik the Red. It is in a very weird location, but we hope it never moves, because those nights when we stay too long, we can actually walk home. Its great! read more

The beer here is fantastic. Sinn Eater, Final Absolution, and Under the Kilt Ale are some of my favorites. Also there aren't a lot of other places where one can barley wine or honey mead. The one single downside is the limited food options. The venison sausage is tasty, but otherwise limited even by traditional bar standards. The upside to that is of course they allow outside food, so I recommend Green Lantern Pizza to go with Dragon Meade beers. read more

Sizes available in half pints, glasses were clean, and each beer is poured into appropriate glass. Complimentary pretzels and mustard are available and even the frozen chicken fingers were good. First time here and stopped due to the name. Was out looking for local brewery's while we were traveling and was quite surprised by just how quaint it is. The atmosphere and staff were all friendly and helpful. Decided to due the flight they had on special and also the cider flight which were all excellent. Will return in the future when in the area. Service was great. I kept asking my friend "how many waiters do we have?", because so many employees came over to check on us throughout our visit and every single one of them was super pleasant. We ate the warm pretzel with beer cheese. The pretzel was delish! The beer cheese was a bit plain jane but not bad. We also both got sausages and both were yummy. Really my friend and I came for the beer above all so the food wasn't a huge focus of ours, however it was all good -no complaints! Friend and I both got beer samplers which were healthy sizes of 5 beers of our choice. I am new to beer so I can't give a detailed review except to say I honestly liked every beer I tried. The interior of this place is medieval inspired. I am happy to say it was CLEAN, especially the ladies restroom- clean clean clean! There wasn't any music when we arrived but later there was a live singer. There are TVs for sports viewing, I didn't count how many or pay attention to them but I noticed other customers intensely watching the TVs. read more

Awesome place just off 696 and just west of Groesbeck. The atmosphere was AWESOME and I am so excited to go back! It's the first raspberry wheat beer I've had in a long time that was so good, I had another round! Cannot wait to be back! If I could have given "The Mead" 3.5 stars I would have. I'll deduct 1 star for price and 1 for service. What it boils down to is this. If you're a true beer snob you'll appreciate the handcrafted selections regardless of their $5+ per pint prices. If you aren't you might as well stick to the $2 Bud Light specials at some other place. I like many of their beers, everything is very high quality, just not enough to routinely blow the budget on the place. Others will disagree. Service is hit-or-miss. You can expect to have to chase a waitress down routinely when it's busy. Hours are less than convenient. The place has always closed at midnight on the weekends and I could never understand why. read more

Pretty cool place if you want to grab a beer and some food. They brew their own beer here. It's a cool place to just chill with some friends and kick back. The waiter was really cool and helped with picking out the right beer with the food I was eating. I got some pizza while here. They do small personal pizzas. I found this brewery to be very small and crowded. We went there on a Friday night and there was no where to sit, people were standing and waiting for a table the whole time we were there. The beer selection was ok, but there are defiantly better brewery's in the area. I was disappointed that there was no mead as well (I don't know if it was just that night or what). Dragonmead has been for years my favorite brewery of them all... Not only is the décor super cool reminiscent of Avalon and Camelot, but the beers are the real deal. They are experts at crafting the best Belgian beers from a microbrewery I've ever had. Final Absolution, Dead Monk, Sin Eater, and Bronze Griffin are certainly the best in their style. Bronze Griffin is a staple of mine, and I have at least 2 or 3 every time I visit. They are also very very good at crafting interesting meads like the Gunpowder Meth. I would recommend everybody driving by to always stop for a pint!! =) read more

Visited the Dragonmead while my husband and I were in town to see family. I'm not a huge beer drinker so I called ahead to see if they served wine, which they do. I was informed that they made their own wine, meh, it was just okay. I know the main draw here is the beer, and everyone in my party raved about it so I'll assume it was pretty good.(The only reason they got 3 stars instead of 2!) My husband brought home a few growlers, some for family and some for friends and they seem to have enjoyed the Final Absolution as well. Only problem I had with the place was when I called prior to going, I had inquired at about 3pm if they had wine and they girl on the phone told me yes. I told her I was going to be coming in that evening with a group because we were in town visiting family and I guess I shouldn't have. She went on a 5 minute rant on how she had already had 3 parties call in that day and was I part of their party? If not, was I an additional party- because they don't take reservations, and they'll be very busy. So, they don't know if they can accommodate us. By the end of the conversation I was wondering if they even wanted us to come? I considered telling my party that we were going to meet somewhere else, but my hubby was excited so I bit the bullet. Overall a decent atmosphere, whoever they had playing live music was pretty good, but we felt like we had to yell over her music to hear each other across the table. Turning the volume down just a tad would have done wonders for the atmosphere. Overall, I wasn't that impressed, mostly because of my experience with the girl on the phone, by the way, they weren't that busy, we were able to find tables relatively quickly and grab chairs from empty tables. I've been here twice now and both times were great! Both times I had sampler trays, so I've gotten to try a good portion of their offerings. Lots of great meads, wines, and beers on the menu. I especially like their cherry mead. The food menu is limited, but their pretzel bread with beer cheese is excellent. Service was great, but then again I haven't gone at peak drinking hours, so it could be more crowded later in the evenings. I'll absolutely be going back to Dragonmead! read more
