Went in for May fest an early version of Octoberfest. Wanted to go grab a couple of beers since I've been cleared to do so by my doctors. I had the Brothers Kolsch and the Back 9 Blonde. Both really refreshing and smooth. I'm a fan of both types. I had a sausage with kraut on a very soft bun. The sausage was excellent the kraut was prepared perfectly, not soggy at all. I had a side of German potato salad and red cabbage. German potatoes salad was good, but the red cabbage was the star it was mixed with small pieces of sausage. The cabbage still had a little snap to it. The service was very good. Our server was very attentive. Nice spacious dining area with a long bar. Can't wait to attend Octoberfest. read more

We came for the winter solstice party. We have been going to the party for the last 10ish years. This was our first time going to this location, we usually go to the Warren location. I liked that it was not as crowded as the other location and they have food that you can order. The band started at 7 and was WAY too loud. We could not hold a conversation and our ears hurt when we left. The server was quite slow (30 minutes to get a drink). Husband enjoyed the drinks. We ordered the pickle fries, which were amazing! I also got the chicken fingers, which were a huge portion and also good. But overall we had a good time with good friends. We will be back next year. read more

We arrived Saturday, June 6th around 12:30 after my grandson's HS graduation. This restaurant was his pick. There were 9 of us hoping to enjoy a nice lunch together to celebrate his achievements. The appearance of the place leaves the impression they are going out of business. The parking lot is horrible, the patio is neglected and the inside as well. The air conditioning is lacking and no shades on the window to keep out the sun. There was one cook and one bartender, that's it. We were told that it would be at least an hour before we could even place an order. This was not what we were led to believe when we called the day before, to make sure our party size would be not be an issue. We left and went elsewhere. We will most definitely not be back. read more

We stopped in today, a Saturday around 12:30pm. The service was awful! The place is so outdated inside and out. The front "patio" had broken down equipment that was awful to look at while trying to have a decent meal, at the front door from the parking lot also had trailers parked, and the parking lot is atrocious. We even called to make sure they were open this time of day and the kitchen was open. The waitress said she would submit the orders as she could because the cook was overwhelmed and if she put in our orders the cook might walk. She also told one table that an order of mozzarella sticks would be about an hour wait. We asked her what the chance was of her taking our orders and get served within an hour. She said probably not. We weren't saying it to be rude, just if not we were fine going somewhere else. One server and one cook, that's it. We have now been there twice, and nope, not again. We took our business down the road. This wasn't a server issue, she tried, but she could only work with what she had to work with. Shame on management for running their business this way. Beer selection is good but beer is a little warm though. The food i received today was absolute swill , had the 20$ poutine last time which was good, got the "pit beans" this time. Looks like Dog food, its lukewarm, very skimp on meat and tastes like it just came out of microwave. I'll probably be back for a beer but not the food Service is ok , bartender is at least happy but did not ask how I liked my food. Not surprised. Ambiance is non existent with TVs off, barely any music and just empty room. I feel bad because I do like and patronize this place but I am very disappointed in the food offering. Worst customer service of our life. It was slow and the waitress never checked on us. We had to flag her down. We asked the cook what was good, and didn't answer. We came here to eat and sadly it was not that good. The meat was cold and not well seasoned, my side of broccoli was two florets. The portion size overall was small, or maybe the plate was so big. Our starter a pretzel with sauce was actually the best of what we had ordered, next time just brush it with real butter and bake it a tat bit longer so it's crisp on the outside and soft in the center. Driving up and entering the parking lot, the place kinda looked like a dump. The windows are all clouded and dirty, and the curb appeal was nil. Walking in, it felt like a greenhouse in there, hot, stuffy, and thick. I was kinda grossed out. We went on Tuesday, for the free comedy night, which starts at 8. We got there about 7:30, and was bombarded by this older woman who threw her hands up in the air and was yelling "We're at capacity! We can't possibly fit anymore people here! There is only 1 bartender and 2 servers!" Hubby and I looked around the place, and saw several empty tables and even seats at the bar, so what the heck was this lady talking about? A server walked by, Roxy, and said she could sit us in her section. Thanks Roxy. It took about 10 minutes for Roxy to come back, which is understandable since apparently there were only 2 servers in the joint. When she came back, we ordered 2 waters and 2-20 oz beers. About another 10 minutes later, she came back w/ 2-14 oz beers, which were warm/cold-ish, and no waters. I asked "Are these 20 oz?" She said no, and she would make sure we weren't charged for 20 oz - I would hope so! Meanwhile, while waiting for our warm beers, we saw the hostess lady freak out and everyone else who walked thru the doors. There were 2 priests, and a guy in overalls, and she scared them away. Not good business. Next, the comics were terrible. The first guy, the MC/host/opener, just bragged on he was 40 something, dating a 20 something hottie, and how hot is girlfriend was. Unfortunately, it seemed more desperate than funny. The next guy made fun of disabled and gay people. My Hubby was actively booing him, and his set, along w/ the warm beer, terrible service, rude hostess, and hot as Hades room temp, made us realize there was nothing worth staying for. I was surprised that I have never reviewed Kuhnhenn! This has been a go to spot for us over the years. It's very large so finding a table is never a problem. We can usually find a spot at the bar as well which is our preferred location. I lived near the Warren location and enjoyed going there often. They don't have food at the Warren location, however. When this location opened I was excited to give it a try! We have been coming here ever since. We have mainly come for the trivia though. The only thing about their trivia is that the sound system is terrible. Al it is hard to hear the questions. They put them up on a screen which is helpful. It's a bit of a drive for us now, but worth it. They have a huge variety of beers, mead, and wine. They also brew their own root beer! The food is very good as well! I ordered the chicken quesadilla (which I mean you can't really mess that up) and he got the corned beef Ruben. Both were really good. The bartender was attentive and very personable. But he also kept the service up to standards. Some bartenders that are chatty don't keep the service end up. But he did! It was a very fun experience and we left happy! Oh! And I got my tag. I had one from before because we collected tagabrews a while back but sort of stopped about 4-5 years ago. So now I have to get the tags I had again. This is the second location I have been to, the first didn't have great service. Off a busy main road, large lot. Inside is a large bar wrapping around a corner, and an open room. The brewing area is visible, but not very visible and doesn't seem to be a showpiece. There is an outdoor seating area but at the time we went it was used to store tanks on pallets. Everything is clean and modern looking, the staff is outgoing and friendly and give good service. The food is good. The beers are very good. read more

I go as the DD for my hubby who loves the beer choices. I like the food. I saw on an older menu option they had chicken and waffles and I wish they would bring that back. I get their corned beef sandwich which is really very good. I had the onion rings for the first time and they were excellent. Service has always been excellent even if there is only one server. It may be slower but she is never rude and always prompt to get what we request when she comes by. Now what I like is I can get Sprite. They finally got Coke products!! read more

Always have a great beer selection, with creme brûlée java stout being my favorite. This is a great place for a large work outing or big group. Also good to come for a few by yourself, haha. They have a limited menu selection, but what I did try was pretty tasty. The beach is and pretzel bites were good and large portions. I wanted to like this place. I wanted to give grace for the challenges restaurants are facing during these times. Straight up, one of the worst experiences I have had in quite some time. Walked in to watch the staff behind the bar look at us and look back down at there phones. We waited. Finally my wife went up to them and asked if we should seat ourselves. The waitress said that she didn't know what we wanted. Then they sat us in the sun so we couldn't even look up. Ok, staffing is tough but this is service 101 here. The food...Bavarian Pretzel to start. Why is it covered in butter in a butter soaked pizza box? Nothing Bavarian about that. The burger...the tell tale shape of the burgers you get in the frozen packs at the grocery store. Flavorless and overcooked. The Turkey Ruben...bland and the toasted sandwich was burnt. The duck fat fries - very mediocre. The beer, hard to screw that up. It is a brewery with product in retail. The atmosphere...so much to be desired. Pass. read more

When we walked in we stood at the host stand for about five minutes while the bartender glared over at us. Not knowing if we were supposed to sit ourselves or wait to be seated, I walked over to the bar and asked what the deal was. The bartender said, "oh, I didn't realize why you were there." Strike one. Then, when we finally sat down, we had to flag down a server after sitting for 29 minutes in order to get any help. Strike two. Finally, our order was taken and our food came. The food. Over cooked burgers, over buttered pretzels, over looked in the window for too long before it got to our table. My plate was scalding hot and the on the side tomatoes for my burger were cooked because it sat in the service window for so long. Strike three. Basically, waste of money and waste of time. Wow! This place is awesome. I had heard of it before but only vaguely, and since I live in Troy I don't make it out this far East usually, but I went here tonight to meet someone. We split an order of the duck fat fries and the coconut chicken tenders, and he had some sort of lamb sandwich too. I got a wine and mead flight, and surprisingly my favorite was the peach chardonnay, with the pomegranate wine coming in at a close second. The only one of the 5 samplers I didn't like was the orange mead, actually. The place itself is huge and even though they were busy, it still wasn't super loud, which was nice. Hidden gem! Duck fat fries were fantastic. Delicious dark Penetration Porter beer. ENORMOUS Stadium Pretzel so big it comes in a pizza box. Served with beer cheese and mustard. Surprisingly good. A solid, laid back brewery. I think food can be hit or miss at breweries, in this case it was a hit. I was there during their winter solace celebration. Due to the event they were only offering a limited menu but even so, it was a good menu. We ordered venison strew in a bread bowl and sweet potato waffle fries. Everything was great. The interior space is large and there was plenty of seating. While we were there, They also had an outdoor, enclosed tent. Besides beer they also offer a small selection of wine, cider and mead. We ordered at the bar and then went back to pick up the order once it was ready. I'm not sure if this is the norm or just during this event. read more

Our friends have kept telling us to try Kuhnhenn's and we finally made it over there. O.M.G. The chicken tenders and fries were to die for. I think they were the best ones I've ever eaten. Our service was fast and friendly, the waitress knowledgeable about the beers. She helped us choose a flight and we tried the DRIPA, Creme Brulee, Sol Invictus, Grapefrit Wit, and the Khunewerzen. I was a fan of the Creme Brulee and the Grapefruit Wit, my better half loved all of them. I also tried a mule, which was good. Not mind blowing, not terrible. Went here recently for a friends birthday-it was on a Sunday around dinner time but it was pretty slow. We were 1 of maybe 4 tables, so the server was pretty attentive. Our table shared a few appetizers: spinach & artichoke dip, duck fat fries and the soft pretzels with cheese dip. I also shared the coconut chicken tenders entree, a bit dry. Portion sizes are definitely big enough to share. The spinach and artichoke dip was the best from the appetizers-the bread served with it is buttered and toasted. Went here on a busy Friday night around dinner time and received great service, food and drinks. Been here plenty of times, my go to beer is always the creme brulee. Of course, there is nothing wrong with a flight of beer, as there are many good choices. For food I got the chicken wings with quack fries (a play off of hop cat's crack fries) with ranch and bbq. I liked the crispiness of the wings and the fries were good. As my wife and I entered, I held the door for what seemed to be people leaving. I said "please, come on out". The woman closest to me "no, come on in. We actually can't leave now because you guys are coming in." I didn't really understand until we got through the doors and realized all three of the women attempting to come outside were all of the FOH employees there. Once we entered, one of the girls grabbed two menus and said go ahead and pick wherever you want to sit and I'll bring you these menus. We sat and she brought us menus, and greeted us and said something about needing to "go outside for a few minutes" - which was what all of them implied they were going to do, but couldn't, because my wife and I walked in. We didn't get a drink order in at all, and she walked out the front door to "go get some air" with the other two employees. We waited 7 minutes for her to come in and just get our drink order, then waited another 10 for our drinks to arrive. How in the world could this take that much time? When the drinks arrived, I asked to cash out. I left a tip of course. But Nearly 20 minutes for a cocktail after the staff dismissed themselves is obnoxious. There were FOUR other patrons. With THREE FOH employees. And 20 minutes passed. I mentioned the word cocktail, tho both orders were nothing but a pour out of a spout. The PG was effing delicious. read more

Like their Warren location, the new Kuhnhenn tap room offers a wide variety of beer styles to sample and enjoy. The interior is modeled after their Warren taproom with the floors, bars, tables etc... being made out that familiar hardwood. With that being said, the main floor is massive and it feels more like a restaurant, but that's not a knock on the business at all. The service has gotten better at the Warren location, and I'd say that the service in Clinton Twp is good; we've not had any complaints since it's opened, even during busy times. This location offers an expanded food menu and we've sampled from it once or twice. The giant pretzel is awesome and a must have, the fries are a bit over rated, and the sandwiches were average. I can't say that the food has been bad, but I'd prefer to come here just for the beer and pretzels. I can't say that I've had a beer here that was not available at the Warren tap room, but they may do exclusive releases at each spot; I just don't know if that's the case. I also don't know if all the beers are brewed at one location or not, but the great news is the beer here is the same quality of the other location! Kuhnhenn continues to brew some of the best beer in the state, so come on in and get your DRIPA! I'm really glad that they're able to sustain two great locations, and I look forward to their eventual completion of the production facility on Groesbeck which will hopefully mean wider distribution. read more

Loved this place! Nice ambience (though a little loud, but that's to be expected in a place like this). Service was excellent, wish I could remember our server's name, because she was on point. Had a delicious strawberry white merlot to drink, and my boys enjoyed their house made root beer. We just ordered apps - the giant pretzel with cheese, coconut chicken strips, duck fat fries, and the meat/cheese board. All were delicious! Prices are reasonable, too. Was tempted to give a 4/5 rating, but that'd be a bit nit-picky. First, the beer... it's Kuhnhenn. The beer ain't cheap, but you get what you pay for -- some of Michigan's best. The service was outstanding. The bartenders were talkative and helpful without being overbearing. One recommended the Chorizo Cubano 'wurst (or whatever it was called) and I enjoyed it. Not super spicy, but tasty... the McClure's pickles, I think, are what makes it. Parts of the sausage were slightly dry, but not at all like the Lamb and Fig 'wurst... that was almost "take it back!" dry. Also, it didn't taste so much like lamb as it did a bunch of all spice. The place also looks awesome... wood is everywhere, and the brewing equipment is in clear view through glass on the right side of the building. While the food isn't the greatest, it's still pretty damn good. Especially the duck fat fries. They don't taste all that much like duck fat, but the crispy beer batter totally "makes" the fries. read more

My wife and I have been here twice in the past month and the service has been questionable, at best. Both times I have sat patiently for over ten minutes with an empty beer in a nearly empty brewery. I've actually had to flag down a server to get service. Now, I understand, and accept, slow service when a place is busy but when it's damn near empty? Tonight was possibly the last straw. We waited 45 minutes to receive two very cold and unappetizing appetizers, fried pickles and pretzels, that must have been sitting in the kitchen, forgotten, for about 35 minutes. This is a shame because the beer is fairly good and so is the food, when it's fresh and hot, but until Kuhnhenn can fix the spotty service we won't be back. read more

This is one of my favorite breweries in Michigan. The family cranks out an amazing selection of offerings. Mead, cider, wine, beer and more. The location is big and unassuming. The ambiance is casual and comfortable. One of the biggest sites to see is the column at the entrance. The staff is friendly and professional. Where they clearly shine is the libations.
