Recommended by my regular plumber Sent a not-too-experienced young man who immediately set up roadblocks for why fixing the problem would be too hard to even try to accomplish. Sent a pic to his boss of my (admittedly old but functional) pipes. Heard the boss on the phone whose exact words were to "get out of there". Offered no other solutions. basement laundry sink ("slop sink") completely clogged with poop! Matthew worked on my 1/2-old house(1855) cast iron sewer line (2 family dwelling- One exit to main sewer line) completely filled with "wipes" from other side! AND worse! Somehow a roofing tool or some yellow handled tool had fallen into the sewer line and was embedded diagonally in the cast iron drain pipe about 7 " from entrance where both house pipes connect to main sewer line out. Matt had to go get a smaller eel drilling snake thing. Some of the wipes were hung about the tool like an odd ghost. Matt was Was very professional , highly recommend . A day later Clogged, the sink and washing machine in basement close to sewer exit pipe ! Our rating is for their logistics/dispatcher, not for the service itself, as we were unable to schedule. After our movers clogged our basement bathroom toilet and flooded our basement on a weekend, we called our plumber, who kindly suggested Drain Doctor as he was out of town. This was Sunday evening. We called, and they scheduled use with one of their overnight techs. The tech was friendly and informative, handled a complex flood story well, and mentioned his hours ran overnight until 8am that morning, so what we should do is . . . stay up overnight through his shift, and he'd be in touch over text. And if we _never heard back from him_, to call at 9am and _start the process over again_. The process of 'we'll get to you if we can, but if not _start at square one_' isn't ideal, but one of us is a night owl and the other an early bird, so that was fine. He gave us his number to text. We texted once in the evening answering a question he'd had (what water/appliance usage caused flooding). A couple hours later around 8pm, he said he was "going to see if he could get someone else" since the job he was on was taking longer than expected. We texted back to acknowledge, and double-checked that the 'someone else' was a Drain Doctor employee (as we try to avoid subcontracting if we can). No reply, which was not a big deal. Several hours pass. Still no reply. We call the company itself, just to see if we can get an answer on whether we should keep staying up or assume we'll need to call back at 9am. The answering service puts us on hold, and then TEXTS THE TECH WITHOUT ASKING US TO. We explained to her that we did NOT ask her to text the tech, and expressed concern as this then meant we'd essentially texted him or had him texted three times on his shift. The early bird between us gets up at 9am and calls Drain Doctor . . . who now tells us that they're _too busy to help us_ and we should find someone else . . . and then added that we had _texted them too many times_. We understand that the tech was busy with the job he was on itself. That was fine. But we're pretty unhappy that a text or two to answer the tech's question and check on who he'd send out instead, and a text we DIDN'T ASK FOR from their answering service ended up with us labeled as a badgering customer. We would have appreciated it if they'd let us explain. read more

The plumber came right away which meant a lot since its hard not to have a functioning toilet, especially when you're 81. He fixed the toilet in a manner of minutes and gave me a $50 senior discount. So now life is back to normal and I'm so grateful. Great job Drain Doctor! read more

The tech showed up and was nice. He cleaned the pipe with a snake which resulted in the pipe in the basement cracking, spilling the clog throughout the basement and on our dryer. He left, came back, plugged the hole with epoxy, and handed me the bill. I had to pay $170 which got the drain clean but left me with cast iron plumbing that needs to be replaced, a dirty drier and sewage in my basement. The clean up is going to cost $150 and the plumber easily $500. Only after the service was I informed they aren't liable for any damage. The contract should have been presented first but it wasn't. Save yourself the time and if you have a big clog get a plumber in there to replace the pipe if it is old. read more

The tech Patrick did an amazing job in diagnosing our home. Our main sewer line appeared to be clogged (but was actually damaged by recent construction). We called their hotline and they came within the hour. I tried a bunch of tools but couldn't seem to get the main line to drain. Patrick took his time to try every tool in his toolbox/truck. He took his time to do a thorough job and explained everything he did while I was able to observe. Although the job required the underground main pipe itself to be replaced by the city. Patrick provided a video inspection with clear and professional diagnosis on tape to forward to the city and contractor responsible for the problems that helped to get it resolved quickly. Our kitchen sink backed up. Tried Drano. Nope. Tried a 25 foot auger from the sink and two access points further downstream. Finally found the issue where 1.5" drain pipe took a 90 degree turn downward into 3" main drain to septic. Called Demelo Plumbing near me in Hudson. They informed me this would take specialized tools and referred me to Doctor Drain. What more can you say about any business. Great service at reasonable price. The office asked me specific questions and assigned Sean tonthe job. He called me at work to say he was on the way and an estimated time of arrival. I explained the issue. When he arrived and went to the basement and examined the situation, he callled me once more to confirm. After he completed the job, he called me to tell me the issue (sludge buildup) and that he fixed the issue. The charge was $230 for several hours work. I had a massive plumbing explosion in basement- prob happened days before I noticed. Called my plumber, he referred me to Drain Doc first. They were SO helpful and responsive- had someone out within a couple hours. The man who came was SO SUPER NICE. Totally knew what he was talking about, was very upfront and honest, and had a great personality to boot. He did the best he could w our mess, and ultimately referred us back to our plumber w the correct diagnosis. The plumber fixed the problem and referred us back to the Doc to finish the job. Same man came back and did a fantastic job. Same great personality, was quick efficient and clean, and had everything completed perfectly. No problems since. And both times he showed up, he let me know honestly all the problems and what the best course of action would be. He was dead-on right, and even gave some advice to save me some SERIOUS money!!! The Drain Doctor was wonderful on the phone and quick to respond. They kept us informed as to when the technician would be arriving. Nick was so methodical and professional in dealing with a clogged sewage line. Before he began he asked me to call the DPW to make sure there were no problems on the street. I was impressed that he knew about water and sewage issues in town. The Watertown DPW arrived and together they checked the town's street drain. We certainly didn't need any blow out back up in the basement. He also had to call for assistance given a very old, rusted, odd size clean out plug in the clogged line. A colleague brought a new one. Drain Doctor was among the least courteous businesses I've had the displeasure of working with. The person who came to service our toilet was rude, blamed us for the problem in a very accusatory way, broke the cover to the tank while removing it, and ultimately did not solve the problem. When he later returned to try again, he yelled at us that we should have called earlier, became visibly frustrated when we offered additional information, and stormed out of the house in the middle of the conversation, slamming the door behind him. We will not be calling them again, and we recommend caution for getting their help in anything but the simplest of clog situations. read more

I found this company to be very unorganized. I was having reoccurring clogs and they sent different service people out who did not relay issues to me or the other service people. They also admit they file their invoices late so that notes are difficult to find and makes trace sourcing an issue extremely difficult. Upon finding out from the Boston Sewer commission that I needed a lateral inspection. I attempted to schedule this with Dr drain, not only did I come to find that the dispatch person had no clue what that was but he also would not schedule a specific time an used the phrase "we aren't a Drs office and don't schedule appointments". I received my first legible invoice about 3 months later with a bill that I thought had been dismissed due to all the hassle and confusion. Please don't waste your time with this company and call Wayne's Drains. They are all around awesome. read more

I've used Drain Doctor a couple times to fix a clogged drain and to clean grease traps in the restaurant I work at. The first time I used them, they showed up about an hour late and took their time doing the job with no sense of urgency. The job got done in the end and the work was satisfactory. The second time I attempted to use them, I asked them to show up between 9 and 1. Two-thirty rolls around and no one shows. I called the office to let them know and a guy named Tim told me there is no excuse for them being late, which eased my mind at first but it didn't change the fact that they caused my place of employment to lose money and wasted our time. Tim refused to make the situation right and I most definitely will not be calling Drain Doctor ever again. Time lost, money lost. read more

My bathroom sink had been going downhill. My building is barely 20 years old, but I'd had trouble in the past and had another company out here. Not only was the problem not rectified and came back, but they broke the stopper on my drain! Lately my bathroom sink hadn't been draining or I would brush my teeth, and it would take an hour to drain. My sink wouldn't stay clean, so I had enough and called Drain Doctor. I was expecting to get an appointment for MONDAY (today is Friday), but I was told at around 3:45, that someone would be here in about 30 minutes. Not even 30 minutes later, a really nice and cheerful man was at my door. He was careful with all the makeup and junk I have around, as well as to not make a mess in my bathroom (and he apologized for a little splash, even though I told him earlier to not worry because I had waited to clean the floor). My sink now works perfectly AND he made my bathroom cleaner than it was when he got in there - less work for me to do is always good (I HATE having a 100% white bathroom!). Highly recommended: professional, quick, and pleasant. We called Drain Doctor after two days of trying to fix a drainage problem ourselves. We cleaned traps, tried snaking (unsuccessfully), used solvents and plunging, to no avail. I called at 9:30am and scheduled an appointment between 1-3 the same afternoon. The office called at noon to ask if I was home for an earlier visit--I wasn't, but the attentiveness was much appreciated. The technician, Eric, showed up at 1:15. He was courteous, friendly, and super efficient: when he left 45 minutes later, not only was the problem fixed (power snaking did the trick, and lots of flushing the system), but he reinstalled the drain plates we had removed before his visit, and he left the tub clean--where gross water had been backing up, leaving nasty bits and film all over. This was above and beyond in my opinion. I wouldn't say the service was cheap, but I don't have anything to compare it to, and frankly it was worth every penny. I didn't ask for a quote up front and one wasn't offered, but I'm sure they would have obliged. The service was also warrantied for 90 days. They were able to come out the same day and very quickly diagnosed the problem-- Nothing was stuck. We needed a new toilet.
