What a great wine bar and beer shop! We stayed nearby at the holiday inn and this place was super close. They have a really cute patio in the front and the inside is relatively big. They also have an extensive wine and beer list and food prices. We had the sparkling rosé and still rosé from Banshee (one of my fav rosés and they had it on tap!) both were a good price (I believe about $9 a glass) and large pours which always make me happy. It also looks like they have a pretty good happy hour. If you're there after 5pm, you can order food from next door and they bring it over to you. If you're there earlier and want some lunch, you can order delivery to here too! Next time I'm in Missoula I'll definitely come back on a nice day to enjoy their patio. read more

This Missoula taproom offers a good variety of mostly local beers - plus some selections from elsewhere, a few wines, a ginger beer and a root beer. I appreciated that they offered small 7oz pours so that I could try several different kinds of beer. (Including a sour from Idaho that came in the cutest tiny snifter.) Service was friendly and helpful, and our bartender checked in with us often to see what we wanted to try next. Seating was open, with an array of tables and high-tops. Customers order their drinks at the bar. There's a small play corner for children. It didn't look like they offered much food beyond a selection of chips, but they had menus for two nearby eateries that will deliver. read more

Next, walk to the Dram Shop, maybe between 5 pm and 6, not too late, with a little bit of sunset to keep things romantic and fun. Order wine from the bar and ask to see the Pearl restaurant delivery menu. They will bring you your choices directly to the Dram Shop; no need to even get out of your barstool. Something light and easy to eat, like a Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. Act sophisticated. Order the Edna Valley Albariño from Tangent, if it's on the menu. It's a great white wine, fruit forward like a Viognier but with lighter body and crispness, quaffable like Grüner Veltliner, but with less grassiness. Beer would be fine, too. Like the Strawberry Ridge loop in the Rattlesnake, for example (Stuart Peak trail to Kench Meadow, cross Spring Gulch to Wallman Trail, right on side trail 29.2 to Rattlesnake Creek). Then, head BACK to the Dram Shop, this time for a beer, maybe a pilsner or local lager, maybe something dark and brooding, whatever the situation seems to be calling for. That's it. You'll know if you and your date have chemistry, or not. You'll not have spent huge amounts of cash on an expensive meal, and you'll have done fun things and seen each other sweat, and nothing says "keeper" than than. This place is IT! Thirty-two draft lines carrying "near and far" craft brews from Montana and beyond. Sourcing local is great, but turns out, the world has great beer too. Also you can "Where's Waldo" yourself to their "junk line" which is one designated line carrying mass- manufactured, widely distributed beers like Dos Equis or Busch Lite (I find a lot of humor in this since it has a "which one is not like the other" quality to it.) A buyer's gotta have a palate but he doesn't gotta be highfalutin. Dram shop is faluntin-free and probably has a few gluten-free options to boot! Today, I picked up a 32-oz. growler of a hopped sour, which came with a tag that included helpful tips on the best glassware (a 10oz snifter) I should use at home when I imbibe. Beer in the States just keeps getting better and better, I mean a hopped sour!? Get the H outta here! Plus an educational glassware tag...details, folks, it's all in the details. In need of a date night? Pearl is right next door, so you can prefunk at Dram before getting fancy over there, or skip dinner altogether in favor of drinking your calories, or you can order mussels and frites from the bar. Save a nickel and don't deal with the uncomfortable played-out dinner date and do both yourselves a favor, keep it casual, and start with drinks. The owner Zach was in last time I stopped by. Gotta give this place props! An upscale beer and wine hangout. No food but they make some nearby delivery menus available. I ordered the beef skewers from the Pearl next door, and as always The Pearl didn't disappoint! In fact they were fantastic. The smokey aoli with the shoestring fries was great. What an awesome bar. I'm so jealous of Missoula for having this place. It has kind of an upscale casual ambiance. Fantastic, diverse selection of beers to choose from, many from local breweries. The design of the place is very cool, modern but comfortable (there's even a children's play area in one corner in the back), and it's tucked away on a side street downtown in a kind of quiet area. Seemed to have a "grown up" clientele. There was a nice mix of ages represented, including people in their 20s, parents with their children in tow, and middle-aged and older folks. It's a nice, civilized bar to hang out with friends and enjoy some good beer in a place that has a fun atmosphere without college kids getting hammered all around you. read more
