I'd argue that this is one of theeee best old fashioneds in Missoula (that I've tried!) and we've tried several in multiple places across the state. Just a perfect balance of sweetness and strength. We've been to this beautiful spot a few times when we visit Missoula-- it's a great place to have a delicious cocktail before heading out to your dinner reservation somewhere else downtown. It's seat-yourself, then you order at the bar--very relaxed, and somehow upscale and casual at the same time! There's a zero-proof menu for those in your party who don't drink. This most recent trip I ordered a Boo's Berries from the zero-proof menu because I was in the mood for a summer-berry flavor. But the menu invited guests to add the distillery's famous vodka to this particular drink if they wanted, so I did. It was sweet and delicious, and exactly the summer flavor I was in the mood for! My husband and daughter each ordered a Honeybee Highball, which they said was very good -- not too sweet, but citrusy-tart, with that hint of rosemary. read more

I've been walking by this place for years and never went inside. I think I was afraid that it would be too posh for me. Recently someone asked me to buy them gin from Montana and I thought of Montgomery. I'm so glad I finally went inside because it's nothing like what I expected. It's not posh, it actually has strong Missoula vibes. The drinks are an amazing price for these post-inflation days at $10 a cocktail. In cities these days, cocktails are double that price. A bottle of gin was only $35, a steal for a boutique gin. Montgomery Distillery has something for everyone. I saw people working on laptops, on dates, drinking solo, you name it. We stopped in here twice during our trip to Missoula and loved it both times. It has a small bar area where we tried a few sips of the different alcohols before moving to one of their larger seating areas. The vibe inside is super welcoming with bits of western charm but also dark and vibey. The service was quick and friendly and I loved both cocktails I had (the gin one that was green and the drink with the chamomile tea). The Mama Tried rye was our favorite and they give you a free cocktail if you buy a bottle. read more

Best drinks at such good prices! Had a cocktail with watermelon purée and it was dangerously good. Whatever my husband ordered was good too! Such a cool vibe inside. I love that they have a little section in the back where you can buy merch. If you get hungry, call Notorious PIG down the street and they can hand deliver the food to your seat! I came here on a Sunday at around 3pm for some drinks before leaving Missoula and this was the one place I was interested in checking out. My first drink was the porch swing ($8) which was sweet and floral from the lavender syrup and tart from the lemon and lemon bitters. The soda makes the whole drink refreshing and great for the summertime because it's so easy to drink. My second drink was the honeybee highball ($7) which is very similar to the porch swing in terms of being a refreshing summer drink but is more tart from their homemade shrub. They distill their spirits right underneath the bar and occasionally have tours, and they use their spirits in the cocktails as well. Apparently there's a Montana state rule that if you distill your own spirits in house you can only serve a maximum of three ounces to a customer per day. Because of that you're only allowed two drinks per visit which is a buzzkill to say the least but those are the rules. I wanted to try more drinks but I had to close out which means I'll have to come back again sometime in the future to try their other drinks and take a tour. read more

We didn't take a tour, so we didn't get the full distillery experience. But we did sit at the cool, old-timey-feeling bar for a few cocktails! The cocktails are both pretty and tasty; it was hard to choose when each person is only allowed to have two drinks! And our bartender was very friendly and helpful. I was already getting out the pool bags and cleaning up the mess. As a 31 year resident of Missoula those sidewalks that businesses put tables and chairs outside, well human fecese , urine, and puke including animal everything is on those sidewalks the businesses don't power wash for your benefit. Don't humiliate disabled persons because they take a little longer to do the do. Instead ask yourself why a place that charges bougie prices for bougie drinks does not invest the money to clean up the sidewalk that your seating and tables are on. read more

My first time in Missoula definitely did not disappoint. That is in part due to the fabulous nature of Montgomery Distillery. [Star1] Drink quality? It's honestly a shame that state laws prohibit you from getting more than 2 drinks because there were so many I wanted to try. I ordered the "Dooley's Good Time" (very good time indeed) and the "Smoke Tones" which was my favorite of the two. Both tasty and refreshing cocktails - solid star here. [Star2] Price Point? Coming from LA and normally paying $15 for cocktails, these were pretty cheap to me coming in at $7-9 per drink. Another solid star. [Star3] Service? Our server was super attentive and checked in on us often to see if we need refills. Star. [Star4] Ambiance? Cool crowd/eclectic mix of people. When my boyfriend and i got there it was pretty chill and quiet so we were able to talk and play card games. By the time we left it was packed! Star. [Star5] Would I come back again? Absolutely. So, when I saw that they had their own rye whiskey, I casually asked if I could get a Manhattan outta that. So glad I asked. It was terrific. It was exceptional. I had the joy of visiting Montgomery Distillery at the end of July when I was in Missoula for a concert. I really enjoy craft cocktails and have tried quite a few over the years and their drinks are honestly some of the best I've had! All spirits, bitters, tinctures, shrubs, liqueurs and syrups are made in house. The cocktails featured some unique and complex flavor combinations but were all very balanced. I tried these 4 House Cocktails: Mystery Train, Iron Tusk, Seahorse Whisperer & Night Burner. I love cardamom and the Mystery Train with cardamom bitters was AMAZING! Oh and did I mention that all House Cocktails are only $8 or $9! A fantastic price for such well-crafted cocktails! The ambiance was chill with a relaxed decor and friendly service. As others noted, Montana state law limits how much distilleries can serve: 2 cocktails per person, per day, so I only had 2 but they were so great I wanted to have a few more. Fortunately, I was able to go back a second time before leaving town - yay! Will definitely be coming back the next time I'm in MT! read more

So I was spending the day in Missoula prior to a weekend of glamping at Paws Up. I was walking around downtown and came across this place. It was only noon but I figured it's 5 pm somewhere so I strolled on in. There was only myself, the bartender and one other person at the bar (and I think she may have worked there too). Anywho I browsed the menu and told the bartender I like sweet drinks. He recommended the Porch Swing which is wild because that's what I was considering. So.., I ordered it. And was delicious. So I finished it up and figured I must have something else. Since my first drink was a gin based drink I decided I'd stick with gin So I had the mystery train. More deliciousness. So after my two drinks I decided I should probably eat some food so I headed out for lunch. So all this was on a Thursday before Memorial Day. Fast forward to Memorial Day. My glamping trip is over and I'm back in downtown Missoula for one day before I fly back to LA. This time I brought a friend with me. I'd already told her when we were glamping that we had to come to this distillery. So we eat some lunch at another restaurant. I only drink water. As we are leaving she asks "Are we going to the distillery?" I say hell yeah. We stop and get cookies on the way. (Cookie review coming later). So we get here and my friend gets the porch swing. I want to get something different so tell the bartender I don't know what to get. He says "Weren't you here a few days ago?" And he even remembered the first drink I got. I say yep that was me but I want something different. So he recommends an amaretto sour. Yes..a classic drink but they put rye in theirs. It was great. Once I'm done with that one I decide to have an Iron Tusk. It was soooo good. I definitely recommend this place. And here's something else. These are craft cocktails but the most expensive drink is $9. I live in LA where the drinks they make here would run boy about $15 bucks or more. If I'm ever back in Missoula I'll definitely return. read more

This is the type of distillery you want to go to if you have a more polished standard! The decor is delightful and welcoming. It sets the tone for a sophisticated evening with a low key aspect. The staff is quite pleasant and the drinks are outstanding. I only wish the laws would change so that you could enjoy more than the two drink limit. The gin drinks are superb! I'm looking forward to going back here and trying something new. MD keep doing what you are doing! One tip; use more street signage to pull in more foot traffic! First time hanging out in Missoula. Really cool place with a great looking drink menu. The drink was delicious! I can see why most reviews of this place are positive. The waitress that worked on 8/3/21 was so terribly rude and unsuited for the service industry that it is unfortunately enough for me to have zero desire to go back. It's was a bad representation for the bar and the town. I went on to visit some great places that night with my friend but we found ourselves pausing through the night to reflect and say, "She was the worst!" I hope this business thrives because it deserved to but a hire like this is one step closer to an out of business sign hanging from the door. read more
