The 1/2 order of Keg Nachos is absolutely massive! It could easily feed four people. There were only two of us, and it barely looked like we had even made a dent in the plate. The nachos are ginormous and loaded with toppings. The flavor was pretty good, which it should be considering the price, and there was definitely no shortage of food. Service was also pretty good during our visit. The restaurant was fairly quiet and almost empty while we were there, so it's hard to say how the service would be during a busier time. Overall, a solid experience and definitely worth knowing about if you're looking for a seriously oversized plate of nachos. read more

The place was fine, overall. Didn't feel extremely clean, but not filthy. We were there later in the afternoon about 1 1/2 hrs to close, and service was friendly but we felt rushed. Especially near the end when I wanted a drink but waitess said bartender was downstairs. Weird. Food was decent. Nothing special, but just the kind of stuff you'd expect to see at a brew pub. Looking for a good brew pub to take the family to while on vacation and this place was highly recommended. Stated they had a river view deck and we were in. Got there and the deck was very small and when we rearranged the table to fit five people they told us that the fire department wouldn't allow us to change the arrangement. Ok.. so we sat inside and many of the tables were filled with used dishes. We found a clean table and sat down to enjoy the advertised good food. Staff were ok but we waited a very long time for our food. Food was good but definitely not worth the wait. Too bad because it seems like a good place to have lunch but we were less than impressed. First the Tamarack Brewery does not have a river view to look at to enjoy your meal and it never has, which is why we chose to dine there. Very disappointing and nothing to look at while eating in their patio but a parking lot. The inside was nice but it was so cold in there it was uncomfortable to sit inside. Why do restaurants do that?The servers were awesome and even they know the Tamarack Brewery has never had a river view. So we did not appreciate the false advertising. Took a long time to get the food and not very many people there. The food was decent, however I ordered fish and chips and the coating on the fish and chips was greasy and very very dark brown which means they have not changed their oil in a very long time So I had to pull the heavy greasy dark breading off the fish to eat it. Would never eat there again mainly because they lied on their website about a view of the river which has never been there And. Dry cold inside. Very disappointed read more

The people were very nice and service was quick, although the food took a while probably because it was cooked "to order." Beers were good, root beer was a little flat and didn't shout out with the flavor expected of a craft brewed root beer. We went there for the bison burger that is reportedly one of the best in Missoula since it was a couple blocks from our hotel so no driving or parking required. The French fries were outstanding and the side salad was very nice. The bun was ok, toasted with nothing on it (no butter, just dry) but the big disappointment of the night was the burger. I ordered medium and there was not a bit of pink. It was dry and mostly flavorless which was a huge let down. We could have sent them back but it was at the end of a 13 hour travel day and I would have eaten almost anything at that point and couldn't wait another 10-15 minutes for a re-cook. I debated between 2 and 3 for this one but tie goes to the restaurant. Nice people, good fries and beer but a major letdown on the burger. Very quick service my server Michael was amazing, the fish taco I got the special. Their tacos are so big. The special one was perfect. It was huge. The food was really really good . Having spent time in SoCal, since I came back home, I have been on this hunt for the perfect fish taco. I have found some that ranked really close, but I gotta say this one is really really good. If they added lime and cilantro to their chipotle sour cream sauce, that would elevate it to almost perfect status. read more

We came in to try the famous nachos and sat at the upstairs bar. I am not sure if it was because of it being mid day or what but there was no bartender upstairs for 15+ minutes. A lot of us were sitting and waiting in the upstairs area but we saw people milling around downstairs too so I am wondering if they were understaffed and the bartender was working both bars. I wish we had known that perhaps the top bar was closed so we didn't wait so long to order drinks. We did try a flight and then got the half size of nachos. The nachos were the star of the show- the half size is enough for 4 people to have and they hook it up with the sour cream. Great chili and chicken on top too. The flight we got was ok - the first issue was the glasses were quite warm, making the beer warm up quickly. The ones we tried weren't bad but weren't something to write home about. read more

I've been to brunch in the past at this establishment, and had a wonderful meal, so I was expecting much more than what we got. My first disappointment came when I saw there was mostly just high carbohydrate and meat options. Other than potatoes, there weren't any sort of veggie options, so clearly this isn't a good pick for vegetarians unless you are one that eats a lot of carbs. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The serving was huge, which I suppose some people equate to being great food. Personally, if the quality of the food isn't that great, in my opinion, it doesn't matter how much of it you give me, I'll still think the same thing. The waffle was quite flavorless, even with the butter and syrup that was provided. The butter didn't melt, because the waffle had already gone cold by the time I got it. The syrup was extremely thick and gooey. The fried chicken was decent but still lacked flavor and wasn't served with any other sauce. (I don't like syrup on my chicken) My friend had the eggs benedict, which had thick bacon instead of ham. She couldn't cut through the bacon, so she had to remove it from the benedict. The hash browns that came with it were actually large fried potato wedges, so more of a fry. She did not eat them, so I don't think she liked them. All in all, we probably won't be back for brunch. What an AWFUL experience sitting at the downstairs bar at 2 o'clock today. I'm kind of speechless. We began by getting our beers and telling the bar tender that our beers were piss warm because we saw him grab the hot glass out of the dishwasher. He then told us yeah the beer is warm here. We both just stared not knowing what to do. We then got our food and he never even checked in on us as he talked at the end of the bar w a coworker. That didn't bug us really, beside us being 1 of 2 groups at the entire bar, but we had to flag him down twice to get more beer. He then he just disappeared. We sat and waited w empty plates and glasses at an empty bar. Eventually I had to get up and find someone to close us out cuz literally there was no one there. He literally clocked out without even closing our tab. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE. After being a regular for the happy hour for years, I am dumbfounded by this experience. Just AWFUL. Came in there for bison burger and I GOT bison burger. The burger was absolutely massive, tender, and juicy. All of the toppings on the burger complemented it well! The fries were terrific as well. They absolutely loaded us up on bleu cheese for the fries and it made such a difference taste-wise! The staff were extremely friendly and quick with their service. I often saw them carry several full plates or cups so they are talented at what they do! Ambiance felt like a typical bar but still family-friendly and had quiet spots. Very lovely place! Tamarack Brewing Company was yet another brewery that I got to try when passing through Missoula. I got the brewery's version of an Apricot Ale known as Sip N'Go Naked. This was a pretty good version of this Ale and it's a type I am usually very fond in getting. The flavor profile to look for when enjoying this beer are fruity, Apricot and sweet. The beer is very smooth and light bodied which as I have said before in previous reviews, something that Steve and I both enjoy experiencing and strive to get the light bodied types whenever we can. It's because it doesn't sit as heavy in the stomach and with summer right around the corner light bodied beers are highly desired by us then! read more

Pretty cool spot in Missoula. We were coming from Idaho on a road trip with a 3 year old and this spot looked great since it was close to a park. Nice menu and big place. It was easy to get seated and get service. Their beer was OK, not great, but definitely was hoping for better after a 6 hour drive. Food on the other hand was excellent. The burgers were great and cooked correctly. The bun they use for the burgers are really unique and they hold up well to the massive size of the burgers. I was shocked that my onion ring stayed crispy to the last bite. Nice kids menu too. Good spot to get a bite and a beer. read more

So first thing, we have been going here forever. we even moved to Alaska and when we come home we make sure to stop at Tamarack. Well the last two visits in 6 months have been disappointing we normally order the half nacho with tequila chicken. in previous years the chicken was flavorful. and layered perfectly with cheese and meat inside the chips. the last two times just a hump of overly shredded chicken is lumped on the top. it's grossly large and very dry meat and the chips and other topping and just drowning In it. it' made for a very disappointing date. we thought we'd come back as maybe it was a mistake in chefs. but no. I'm not sure what's going on tamarack but please bring back the layered goodness of premium nachos. I tell everyone I know about these and the last two times I almost want to not recommend them because of the dissatisfaction. Make the extra effort!!! We still love the artichoke and spinach dip. We've been to Tamarak before and it was great food & service. This time (July 7 around 5pm) we were very disappointed. Sat in the lower part of the restaurant. Ordered 1/2 plate of Nachos with the ground bison and NO beans. Waitress repeated the order twice so we know she heard us. About 1/4 of the way through, we started finding beans. Waitress came to check how things were tasting. Mentioned we had found beans (about 10 by this time), her comment was "for that few they shouldn't have bothered". We let it go. About 1/2 way in, under the bison, started to find lots more, picked out about 1/2 cup then stopped eating. Waitress again comes and asks if we are done and if we want it to go. We said no to-go because of the beans. She brings the check, with no apologies. Husband makes comment to her as she brings the change "we did order with no beans, and you didn't even offer to fix it, so we won't be back". Her only response was "That's understandable ". We walked in on a Saturday at 12:30p and were seated outside (our choice) right away. Our server was attentive, efficient, and friendly. She was working really hard as she had the whole back porch. The place is big, so we were glad to be seated on the porch. We ordered the Pork Carnitas Quesadilla, which was good except the pork was dry, and the Brie Chicken Sandwich. It was a very substantial sandwich. The chicken was juicy and there was a very large piece of brie. For us, it was too brie forward, but if you like brie, this would be a great order.
