Beers were good, root beer was a little flat and didn't shout out with the flavor expected of a craft brewed root beer. We went there for the bison burger that is reportedly one of the best in Missoula since it was a couple blocks from our hotel so no driving or parking required. The French fries were outstanding and the side salad was very nice. The bun was ok, toasted with nothing on it (no butter, just dry) but the big disappointment of the night was the burger. I ordered medium and there was not a bit of pink. It was dry and mostly flavorless which was a huge let down. We could have sent them back but it was at the end of a 13 hour travel day and I would have eaten almost anything at that point and couldn't wait another 10-15 minutes for a re-cook. I debated between 2 and 3 for this one but tie goes to the restaurant. Nice people, good fries and beer but a major letdown on the burger. Having spent time in SoCal, since I came back home, I have been on this hunt for the perfect fish taco. I have found some that ranked really close, but I gotta say this one is really really good. I've been to brunch in the past at this establishment, and had a wonderful meal, so I was expecting much more than what we got. My first disappointment came when I saw there was mostly just high carbohydrate and meat options. Other than potatoes, there weren't any sort of veggie options, so clearly this isn't a good pick for vegetarians unless you are one that eats a lot of carbs. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The serving was huge, which I suppose some people equate to being great food. Personally, if the quality of the food isn't that great, in my opinion, it doesn't matter how much of it you give me, I'll still think the same thing. The waffle was quite flavorless, even with the butter and syrup that was provided. The butter didn't melt, because the waffle had already gone cold by the time I got it. The syrup was extremely thick and gooey. The fried chicken was decent but still lacked flavor and wasn't served with any other sauce. (I don't like syrup on my chicken) My friend had the eggs benedict, which had thick bacon instead of ham. She couldn't cut through the bacon, so she had to remove it from the benedict. The hash browns that came with it were actually large fried potato wedges, so more of a fry. She did not eat them, so I don't think she liked them. All in all, we probably won't be back for brunch. We came in to try the famous nachos and sat at the upstairs bar. I am not sure if it was because of it being mid day or what but there was no bartender upstairs for 15+ minutes. A lot of us were sitting and waiting in the upstairs area but we saw people milling around downstairs too so I am wondering if they were understaffed and the bartender was working both bars. I wish we had known that perhaps the top bar was closed so we didn't wait so long to order drinks. We did try a flight and then got the half size of nachos. The nachos were the star of the show- the half size is enough for 4 people to have and they hook it up with the sour cream. Great chili and chicken on top too. Tamarack Brewing Company was yet another brewery that I got to try when passing through Missoula. I got the brewery's version of an Apricot Ale known as Sip N'Go Naked. This was a pretty good version of this Ale and it's a type I am usually very fond in getting. The flavor profile to look for when enjoying this beer are fruity, Apricot and sweet. The beer is very smooth and light bodied which as I have said before in previous reviews, something that Steve and I both enjoy experiencing and strive to get the light bodied types whenever we can. So first thing, we have been going here forever. we even moved to Alaska and when we come home we make sure to stop at Tamarack. Well the last two visits in 6 months have been disappointing we normally order the half nacho with tequila chicken. in previous years the chicken was flavorful. and layered perfectly with cheese and meat inside the chips. the last two times just a hump of overly shredded chicken is lumped on the top. it's grossly large and very dry meat and the chips and other topping and just drowning In it. it' made for a very disappointing date. we thought we'd come back as maybe it was a mistake in chefs. but no. I'm not sure what's going on tamarack but please bring back the layered goodness of premium nachos. I tell everyone I know about these and the last two times I almost want to not recommend them because of the dissatisfaction. Make the extra effort!!! We still love the artichoke and spinach dip. We walked in on a Saturday at 12:30p and were seated outside (our choice) right away. Our server was attentive, efficient, and friendly. She was working really hard as she had the whole back porch. The place is big, so we were glad to be seated on the porch. We ordered the Pork Carnitas Quesadilla, which was good except the pork was dry, and the Brie Chicken Sandwich. It was a very substantial sandwich. The chicken was juicy and there was a very large piece of brie. For us, it was too brie forward, but if you like brie, this would be a great order. She thought it needed some horseradish or some other condiment to add some flavor. She called the roast beef a 'brick of meat' and left almost half her sandwich. We picked Tamarack as we were hankering for burgers and tasty beers after a long day of driving. We chose wisely on all fronts. Tamarack's beer selection is somewhat limited in that it leans heavily towards the IPAs and hoppier craft ales. But for us lovers of tasty lagers & pilsners there are good options. But it was the bison burger was the real star of the show. It was tasty and juicy: a well balanced burger topped with caramelized onions and sharp cheddar cheese, exactly as ordered. This was one of the best burgers I have enjoyed for some time. The bison despite being lean was flavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The brioche bun was lightly toasted and maintained its structural integrity. In an attempt to be slightly healthy, I opted for the side Caesar instead of fries. This was an excellent choice: the dressing was light and the salad was crowned by real shaved Reggiano parmesan. I could not finish the salad despite loving it. Service was attentive, friendly, and efficient. Tamarack was a great experience which I will repeat when next in Missoula. read more

This is my son's favorite place in Missoula. He has been here many times but this was my first time. We parked in a lot behind the restaurant. It was paid parking but not expensive. There were 3 of us and we decided to go to the top level and were seated right away. We loved the decor...I liked the upstairs best as it was bright with lots of windows to see the great views. We had a wonderful young man who was our waiter. He was professional yet friendly and helpful. The same time he was waiting on us he had a huge table (birthday party) about 35 people. He handled it all so well. One of us had wings that were awesome. I had a bison burger with a side salad. Wonderful..great dressing too on a fresh salad. My daughter had the Cobb salad and really enjoyed it. It was a big salad and she said it was very fresh. The table next to us got nachos. Oh my goodness....huge!
