My friend ordered an oat milk latte and I chose the hot chocolate. It tasted fine, but I'd say it was warm rather than hot. I also tried the sticky bun, which was pretty good. While we were sitting at a table in the corner, the power went out, and a few minutes later, everyone was asked to leave. It was a perfectly polite request and they did explain that it was for safety reasons; still, I think it would have been a nice gesture if they had said "here's a voucher for a free beverage of your choice" next time.

While La Farine has a smaller pastry selection than its neighboring bakeries on College Ave., it has an impressive variety of baguettes and sourdough loafs. I ordered a mini kalamata olive loaf, which was the perfect size for snacking. Service was quick and efficient, and I took my bread to-go to enjoy at home. I appreciated how the loaf is baked with more olives per square inch than any olive bread I have ever tasted. The sourdough had a good chew without being too tough and was soft and fluffy on the inside. The tangy sourdough and briny olives needed little else but were enhanced with a pat of French butter. On my next visit, I'd like to try La Farine's other sourdough loaves and baguettes.

It was early in the morning and cold, so we thought coffee would be perfect--we ordered online through their site (Square), then walked a couple of minutes over to Highwire. Once we got there, we waited only for a little bit before they called our name and handed us our coffees. The drinks were both good and I'd love to be back to try their other coffees, as it seems like plenty of other people have said good things about them. Thanks for helping us warm up!

But consistently? Maybe that's what they mean by Ain't Normal. My bigger issue is the service. Maybe I've caught them on off days, but the staff has consistently come off with a bit of attitude. Nobody needs a parade when they order coffee, but a little warmth goes a long way, especially when you're charging specialty coffee prices. At the end of the day, the coffee is good enough that I've come back more than once. I just wish the cups were fuller and the customer service matched the quality of the drinks.

Whether you need a matcha fix, a caffeine boost, or are craving something sweet or savory, they have something for you. Side note: I've been waiting for their "Corn Cloud" drink to return.
