These really are the best donuts in town. My son and I have been going there since he was in preschool, and we call it "fluffy donuts" because that's what we knew it as until we found out the real name. I also like the breakfast burittos on a savory day. It's fun to sit outside and watch people going into supercuts, and then peek into the tale of the yak - always something weird and interesting there across the street - even a metaphysical bookstore. I smell these donuts cooking from my window every night in Elmwood and it makes me salivate. They open at like 4 in the morning which is awesome for when you're still wasted from partying that night. My sister works up the street from here and raves about how good everything is. I thought to myself, "how good can a donut shop be?" and was pleasantly surprised when she brought me here last week. First off, it's not just a donut shop. They have a pretty extensive menu that includes breakfast sandwiches, burgers, fries, and other food items that are made to order. The best thing about their breakfast sandwiches are that you can get one made on a bagel, croissant, or whatever the third carb option was. I ended up getting a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich that was amazing. The fatty in me also wanted a donut so I ended up getting a French cruller. I have a soft spot in my heart for good, simple donut shops. I drive by every day on my way to work and kept seeing people walk out with those pink boxes. I sit at that light and there is an assortment of fresh donuts lined up on trays in the window to entice you. I finally stopped this morning to grab a box for coworkers and I paid $9 and some change for a dozen donuts. Super delish, fresh and made my coworkers super happy! If you go in the morning, parking is easier to find and you don't have to pay until 9am *check signs first* I was lucky to grab the one directly in front of the door. Very friendly staff. I go there for the breakfast and it never disappoints. Decent (not stellar) eggs any way you want it and sausages. Tasty and affordable. The overhead TV is always tuned to some silly soap opera which adds to the charm. read more

These are some solid donuts. I think the sugar and french crullers are super light and fluffy. They also aren't overly sweet. There was a tad too much glaze on the crullers, but to be fair I tend to like less sweet + less glaze on food in general. The apple fritter was gigantic, about a size of a softball if you were to smash the softball down, but it was a bit too oily for me. French Crullers cannot be found at King Pin. French crullers are moist in the middle and crispy on the outside. Unfortunately the times that I have stopped by Dream Fluff later in the day they have not had French crullers. However, when I went by last Sunday in the morning to ensure french cruller attainment I found out that they also sell super cheap breakfast (diner style stuff, eggs, bacon, pancakes, hashbrowns, etc.) among other things. A little on the greasy side but it's a given when it only costs $5.50!! French crullers are .85 btw. I am going to be super sad if this review increases the demand for french crullers and Dream Fluff doesn't increase its production but I couldn't not write this review when the owner was super nice and really polite about answering my boyfriend's questions and giving us change. read more

This place finally lured me in with is pornographic display of sweets in the window after having driven by it on a daily basis to get to work in North Berkeley. Also, who wouldn't dig a place called Dream Fluff Donuts (sounds like a plastic barbie mall add-in) Between 8 and 9, I have always been lucky enough to park right in front of the place. I began with bringing in a dozen of the biggest, tastiest, freshest donuts and pastries for an office treat. The scones got really high marks, how can something that big still taste so delicate? I made the mistake of noticing the breakfast sandwich menu board (seriously over 50 sandwiches, most are around $3...So, next time I got one (well, three, 2 for the bosses). We were all hooked and now I have to go in every Friday on my way in and get these beauties. Try anything on a croissant, light, buttery, flakey and HUGE. Today (Tuesday) I went in and they had already started making the normal Friday order for me. I told her I was just getting pastries for a meeting and she had to pop into kitchen and call off the order. The service is nice and genuine, but she will finish up one order before taking the next one. I've seen people who wish her to drop everything to help them upon their entrance to the door. Be patient people, I've never seen anything take more than 5 minutes once it's your turn. Prices seem very reasonable for what you get...I am really tempted by the case of freshly fried chicken and one day I will indulge in a piece...I also see they have waffles and I'm thinking that may be just the thing to eat it with. Final words - Great location (Ashby at College), friendly, competent service, great selection which is definitely better the earlier you go, there s something for everyone in the food department and it is all pretty well priced as well as fresh and delicious. We tried an apple fritter and a chocolate old-fashioned. The latter was the better - a not-too-sweet chocolate frosting, and nicely craggy surface, resulting in a greater surface area for frying, of course. The apple fritter had a good glaze, a paucity of both apple and cinnamon (resulting in a bland fritter), and was too dense. It's not BAD, but I definitely prefer Bob's. The coffee was exactly what you'd expect from a donut shop - I was afraid they'd only have half and half, but then the regular milk was pointed out to me (phew!). I normally don't care too much about the atmosphere of a place, but even I found the haphazard displays of various aspirin/tylenol/gum/chips of all kinds/etc to be kind of odd. read more

Cash only! I love this donut shop! I went around last week visiting donuts places in Oakland, they were all pretty sketchy, below average taste, and had bad selection. Dream Fluffy Donuts is in a great location and has a great selection. My favorite are the chocolate French twist and blueberry cake donuts. I took my friend here and she really liked it as well. The ladies who work here are super nice and friendly.
