Things that I liked about insomnia cookies: - It was fairly easy to order. - the cookies were warm upon arrival. - I appreciate that they are open until 3 am. - unfortunately, thats about it. Lol I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1, simply because of those reasons. Things I didn't like: - overly sweet, they would have better results lessening the sugar in the recipes. - some cookies were overly sweet and overly salty, like they were trying to cover the sweetness. It didnt work - chocolate doesn't taste like real chocolate. Tastes kind of cheap. And they used sweet chocolates in an already sweet cookie. - snickerdoodle is one of my top favorite 3 cookies. This was by far the worst snickerdoodle I have ever had. - Im not a fan of flat cookies, but I'll still eat them .. lol.. however, I am not a fan of oily or greasy cookies. My fingers were coated in greasiness... and my lips were too. And it left like.. a layer in my mouth that wasn't fun. - weird after tastes. I usually get that when imitation vanilla is used. Were the cookies good. Yes. They were very yummy. The icecream was also a hit. I got the Dreamweaver and would absolutely recommend it. It was just under $10 for 2 cookies and a scoop of ice cream. Here's the disappointing part. I went on a Friday night around 9:30pm. They close at 3AM. I wanted to try the chocolate chunk brookie. The lady was nice enough to ask the bakers how long the wait was for the brownie, and the response was that they 'didn't have anymore'. The store is expectant to be open for another 5.5hrs. It was the perfect treat, raisin-free and oozing with ooey gooey melted chocolate in every bite. I got a zero sugar cola from the drink display case too. Are Insomnia Cookies baked goods good? Yes, they are - both their cookies and their brownies. Are they worth the cost and effort? That's debatable. I've had some experiences that were quick and painless, and more than a few that were disappointing. A couple months ago, one employee was working alone on the day they had a promotion for National Cookie Day, which meant a long line out the door. She was trying to do her job but was clearly overwhelmed. She said her supervisor was not supposed to come in until 1 p.m. but was about to arrive at 11:30 a.m. to help. No one is forcing Insomnia Cookies to do this or any promotion, but if they're going to do it, it would be nice if they actually prepared for it. On several occasions, I have tried to use a reward I have in the app, only to get an error message. A few times it was because I wanted a special/seasonal cookie that was listed as a "Classic Cookie," but it somehow didn't qualify. I have often asked for assistance from the person working the counter, and they have politely told me that they're sorry but they do not have the ability to override the system. I have even offered to pay the difference between the regular classic cookie and the special/seasonal classic cookie, but my offer has never been accepted. If you don't want to count a special/seasonal cookie as a classic cookie, don't include it in the "Classic Cookies" category. read more

Insomnia Cookies started out in the East Coast then made its way nationwide the past 10+ years. I first tried them at Atlanta actually. They opened a couple stores in SF and now Berkeley! What a great location for college kids to indulge in a warm cookie late at night. I got the classic 12 pack ($32.50) and tried a lot of the flavors. Nothing was my favorite, least favorite was the oatmeal. Bummed out that they didn't have cookies and cream (not sure if it was that only or if they even make it at this location) If there was a universal cookie scale - Insomnia cookies are the softer side, easy to break off almost not holding its shape, a lot thinner compared to other cookies, chewy and buttery/ oily. Ordered the 12 pack, which is almost $4/cookie. Last year, placed a number of orders for the 12 pack. Then, without fail, the cookies were a decent size and, of course, tasted great. Both size and taste were consistent last year. This year, however, unless you pay a surcharge for one of their specialty cookies, the regular ones are now nearly 1/2 the size they used to be for the same price. They are shockingly small. The staff is really nice and friendly. I got their CookieMagic subscription ($10/month) which gets you a free classic cookie everyday and a deluxe cookie for $1 (1 a day for both). Considering their cookies are $3-5 each normally, I felt this was a worthwhile investment. I'm probably not going to eat 30 cookies in one month, but it does make for a nice gift to share with friends and co-workers. They have a small retail space under a luxury housing complex and right across from UC Berkeley's campus. Casual vibe and lots of flavors to try. Insomnia puts a twist on that (I think, I am still confused, must be because I am an OG?!). And that is, you pick the Cookie first, then the Ice Cream, and they put it together into, well, er, a new Cream like It's It? Confused, and an Ice Cream purist. I just ordered a cup of 2 flavors, so did my teen companion, or maybe she was just following me to respect her OGs? I did get an Ube flavor, which is definitely a newer, on the rise flava flave (for you semi-OG MTV "D" celebrity trash show watchers) popular Asian based flavor. I belong to their rewards program so I get their emails and texts of new flavors/specials. I go here once every other month. When there's a special, I'll go in. Else, the prices are a bit high for their small cookies. I think it's more affordable if you get their volume box. Insomnia cookies are best eaten immediately, warm, fresh. These cookies are better than Crumbl in my opinion, as they have a crispier exterior and are not super thick and dense. I have gotten the chocolate peanut butter cup and s'mores cookies, which were both a bit too sweet. I also would have preferred more of a chocolate taste for the peanut butter cup cookie, as it basically just tasted completely like peanut butter. Insomnia makes soft (but not too cake-like) cookies with a great crispy outside. They're not insanely huge like crumbl so a cookie is actually a serving (although they do now have a larger size option if that's your jam).
