My son finally found a hair stylist that suits his preference. He's very meticulous about his hair and ended his search at Drew James Aveda salon! Not all hair stylists are created equal and he found the one! Lol After many trial and error salons and barbers, we stumbled upon Autumn here and she's amazing. First time cutting his hair, pictures were viewed, styles were discussed, suggestions were made, her skills and expertise made the hair perfect! Layers and a flare look was what my son was looking for and Autumn delivered. Lovely location with easy parking and many seats/stations available. Clean and Nicely organize with all their hair care products and easy to make an appointment with a simple call. Everyone is friendly, helpful and very personable. read more

I called last minute for a toner and they immediately were able to fit me in. The hairstylist was on time and professional. She worked very quickly as well. I was in and out in less than an hour. The location is very clean and very spacious. They also have a coffee station, which is super cute! Very clean bathrooms as well. The only complain I have is that after washing my hair, I still had toner being washed away and when I dried my hair with the towel it stained it. Not sure if this is normal or not, but my towel is now ruined. read more

I have been to several Drew James Salons -- Hollywood, Pembroke Pines and Plantation. I had amazing stylists at two of them -- Plantation and Hollywood. On my last visit to the Hollywood store, I had no issue with my stylist or the service but asked the receptionist as I was checking out about the discriminatory price structure that charged a 3 or 4 times greater cost for cutting curly hair vs straight hair. I was told stylists had to get special training to cut curly hair that is not taught at Aveda schools and therefore they charged more. I asked didn't that essentially amount to a race-based tax for patrons of color who typically have curly hair. I took a picture of the price menu and the outside of the salon and made a personal social media post about it on which I tagged Aveda and Drew James. It wasn't rude; just objectively noting the facts and asking the question and asking them to reconsider the practice and its consequences. No one reached out to me to address my concerns. Since that encounter, I had not been to a Drew James salons in quite a while -- years -- but needed a quick color retouch so I recently called the one close to me to make an appointment. The number didn't work. I called over two days but couldn't get through and, because the salon was so close, I drove over to make an appointment in person. I had also texted but got no response and asked when I walked in if the number had changed. They confirmed it had not. They confirmed that three stylists could see me this afternoon and because it was just a retouch I selected the least costly one. About 10 minutes later, I got a call from the salon apologizing that they had made a mistake and that the stylist was actually not available at the time slot they scheduled for me. So, I asked to just be booked with one of the other two stylists who I had just confirmed had availability. Then I was told none of them were available. I asked how could that be the case in the 10 minutes since I left the store and then the story changed. She told me I'm sorry but we can't book you because it's not a "good fit." I asked if she could tell me what she meant as I had been going to the salons over two decades. She said there was a note in the system that they could not service me, but she wouldn't tell me what it said. I recounted my history with the salon and said I had never had or been made aware of any issue with a stylist, I had paid for all my services so I couldn't understand why I would be banned. She said she would ask a manager to call and, hours later, I've heard nothing. The only thing that could be an issue is my questioning the discriminatory price structure. So, not only are Drew James salons okay with practicing racial discrimination but now apparently they have a retaliation policy and practice as well. If you go to a Drew James salon, take note and see if the practice is still in place and consider whether this is the kind of company you really want to do business with, or,if you are employed there, if it's the kind of company you want to work for. I have been debating on whether or not to make this review.. but after months of struggling to grow out my hair and being completely insecure about my hair to the point that I have my hair up 24/7 I decided it was time. I decided to get a haircut here for my birthday, unfortunately that was a huge mistake. As I called and booked the apt. I was told it was going to be an extra fee since the lady was a "master stylist" , I said no problem. When I arrived,I showed her a picture of what I wanted hoping she would deliver. But , unfortunately that was not the case. I got the worst haircut I could have received. My hair was completely uneven. Before I left she had styled my hair with waves and showed me my hair with the waves-which looked fine. But as soon as the waves fell- it was horrible . I will attach pictures for reference. It looked like someone cut my hair blindfolded and for the amount I paid and the extra for it to be done by a master stylist was insane. I called the next day and asked them to fix it and see if another stylist can fix it. They refused and made me see the same one. She ended up just making it shorter and more uneven. I am not the type of person to ask for a refund or anything but I do expect to receive a good service especially for the price I paid for. I just ended up leaving completely frustrated. It's been 6 months and my hair has barely grown and is extremely embarrassing to the point that every one that sees it points it out. I suggest to get a hair cut else where. Please don't make the mistake. It's so frustrating how my hair looks. I can't even put my hair down or anything. read more

I will say the service is great and Jessie is so sweet. She did the color for my hair well. But after sitting in the chair for 4 hours and my flat iron not lasting no more than I was in the chair, I'm highly disappointed. Especially after spending $200 with a Groupon included. I rarely get my hair done and using go to a black salon due to my texture. Im reminded why. Having to fix my own hair the same day even though the only time I was outside was while walking to my car, kinda sucks. Especially after spending all that time and money, I could've just stayed with All Dolled Up and spent that amount with my straight hair lasting 2 weeks - not 4 hours. read more

After reading the response from the owner, i was slightly confused as half the stuff she mentioned is false. All the staff members also noted the attitude of that stylist that day. Regardless, I wanted to call Camille and clarify because like I mentioned to Camila, my intention was never to offend or hurt anyone. I even mentioned to Camila the day of the treatment that I would call her and not speak about it in person because I respect the salons privacy and each stylist deserves a second chance- again we are all human. She agreed and offered that I come back and give them another chance which I agreed to. She very efficiently booked me down for another day and said if anything were to change to give her a call back. I called the salon on 3/5/2024 at 12:36PM to change the time and date to my blow-dry that was offered by Camila. The receptionist put me on hold, came back and said I was no longer allowed to make any appointments or come into the salon until further notice. She said someone would get back to me and let me know. The fact that a negative review after the 1st visit can ban me from going back to the salon is COMPLETELY BIZARRE to me. This whole situation has been so over exaggerated. Readers, we are allowed to have a bad experience and it's okay for someone to mess up. It is okay for us to guide our fellow friends of our bad experiences so they can learn from our mistakes and decide how they would like to proceed. But, what is NOT okay is to over react over a negative review and not correct your fault. Like you see Camille has not responded to any of the other negative reviews. Somehow only my one negative review caught her attention.... Im not sure if this is a matter of discrimination at this point or just poor customer service. I had my hair cut with Alyssa and she took her time to create a perfect textured bob. She was very neat and precise. Even the blow dry was excellent, she carefully styled it. I will be coming back! Salon looks great and the front desk associates are nice. However, I've apparently been put on a "walk-in basis only" after having to reschedule and finally cancel an appointment last minute (from what I've been told). I was never made aware of a policy like this in the first place and my account with them was basically blacklisted with no warning. This is the only time I've experienced this going to a hair salon. I feel embarrassed because this past year has been hard for me and it was going to be the first time I'd get my hair done in a very long time, and I can't even schedule an appointment? Going to a hair salon should involve making customers feel good about themselves vs. punishing them for their lack of knowledge of salon policies. I'd be more understanding if only they'd have at least given me a heads up about their policies and what would happen if I cancel last minute. I never write negative reviews but I felt I should share my experience before it happens to someone else. Any public business should be open to honest criticism by their customers, and I'm just being upfront with my recent experience with them. I've been going to Frenzy salon instead since there's been no issues with them even if I run late. And who doesn't run late to a hair appointment or have to cancel every once in a while?? I've worked customer service jobs before and I've at least been trained enough to avoid potential issues with customers, maybe the salon associates need more training? Or to be very clear with customers who run late about what the policies are? Still, I'm not going back after I called them last time and the manager wasn't there to deal with this issue. Instead I spoke to a young woman who although was very nice, had no control over my account or these polices so she couldn't do more to help. I'd give one star but I'll give two instead because of that associate. read more

Let me start of by saying THANK YOU ALYSSA! Alyssa completely understood what it was that i wanted and gave me the honesty that every customer deserves. She took it within herself to make sure that we conducted the safest process in getting the color that i wanted. i do want to add that i had red and black hair which are the hardest to treat, and even then she was so patient in keeping the density, volume and texture of my hair into consideration because i have beautiful natural curls.
