Silver Creek Horseman's camp has about 80 sites offering primitive camping. 10 of the 80 sites are…read morereserved for no horses and almost all are shaded. The camp offers 320 acres of camping and trail riding on the park grounds. Since there is state land adjacent, there are many more additional miles to keep you busy for days. The camp offers pump water and pit toilets but Silver Creek also runs through the park so it easy to take the horses down to the creek to water. Some of the sites have high line poles for 3 horses but most only have poles for two (feel free to email me if you want to know which sites have three). You are definitely not allowed to tie to trees. Portable pens are allowed but they must stay in the high line area. The park is very clean and sites are checked after each person leaves. If you don't clean up your site, you will receive a fine in the mail--which I love because I get sick of people not picking up after themselves. Fees are $10 per night and reservations can be made on the website notes in this posting. There is also a day staging area and there is a trail fee of $2 per horse. There are a lot of wonderful opportunities for activities that go on at the park. WHAM puts on a judged trail ride that is a ton of fun and there is also the Cancer Ride which is a benefit ride. Sites are usually gone way in advance for the cancer ride. This is truly a wonderful place to camp and it is the best place to pass the fall, summer and spring! Say hi when you get there. First, the location is awesome. Across the street from a Lake Macatawa access (our balcony had a lake view) and down the street from the Holland State Park Lake Michigan Beach (perfect to watch the sun set). We also hiked Mt. Pisgah a couple of days (just down the street too). We stayed in the Newport (sleeps 8, 4 in beds, 4 in sofa beds). We loved the unit from the decor to the multi level layout and fully stocked kitchen. If someone in your party has trouble with stairs I might pick a unit that has an additional first floor kitchen/bar. There is a jet tub in the master bath and a private patio with a grill off the back of the first floor bedroom. There is also an outdoor grill with patio table seating right off the pool deck for entertaining. The salt water pool and hot tub (mostly the hot tub) was my fav, especially after climbing all those stairs at Mt Pisgah. 8 minutes to downtown Holland and 20 minutes to Saugatuck. Just down the street was a kayak and paddle board rental place. Additionally you get privileges at the Macatawa Golf Club which was very nice. It was worth every penny and we hope to go back again!

The owners are incredibly nice, and the property is beautiful. I loved the koi pond and landscaping. It was wonderful sitting on the balcony with my coffee listening to the sounds of the water and birds singing. We enjoyed cooking out a few nights, making s'mores, and relaxing in the hot tub. We were a short walk from all the fun of downtown Saugatuck, so we split our time between exploring the town jumping off our home base to do things like kayaking in Montague. None of us wanted to leave, and we will definitely will be back!

There wasn't many options close to downtown that were available or reasonable. I found Beachway for $150 a night compared to $300+ for a room just across the water. After reading lots of reviews, I booked and crossed my fingers. We arrived and were greeted by Cathy at the front desk. So sweet and informative! Walked me through everything we needed to know - front desk hours (she was staying the night so would be available for emergencies and ring the bell if needed! So sweet), breakfast area with coffee, donuts, and fresh fruit, and all the amenities they had - games, movies, snacks, etc. They walked me to the room to make sure I knew where it was and to show me around. I had left a note in our reservation about it being our Anniversary and the staff left us a bottle of Prosecco and some nuts - SO sweet and totally unexpected. The room was small - as was described - but very clean and well maintained. The bed, two nightstands, small dresser, TV, and shelf with hangers was in one area of the room and the other half had two chairs, small table, & the sink area outside of the actual bathroom. The sink had a hand towel, makeup towel (black so not to stain easily from makeup - great idea), blow dryer, 2 bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner, and 2 makeup wipes. (no lotion). The bathroom has a door and was recently remodeled - toilet and small shower with a curtain. The renovation was VERY well done, but the shower is pretty small (but tall). We did not use the pool but it appeared to be heated - we hardly saw anyone using it but it appear clean and well maintained. There are lots of decks with ample seating to hang out and watch the activities across the channel. The location is great! short 8-10 min drive to downtown Saugatuck or Douglas. Chain Ferry is a block away and super convenient - and charming! Oval beach is a short 5 minute drive away (walking distance but very hilly and no sidewalks - it's mostly through the woods) My ONLY complaint about the Beachway is the fact that there is no individual temperature controls in the rooms - it is an older establishment that looks retrofitted into individual rooms so everyone must be on the same run. It got a little stuffy in our room, so we opened the windows at night. It was cool outside but the cool air didn't' seem to come in at all. There also is no fan in the room to move the air. So, I would recommend bringing fans if you can. We were on the floor above the lobby so maybe other areas don't have this issue. I did see comments in other reviews about paper thin walls and hearing everything - while I would agree, we didn't find it to be an issue as there didn't seem to be many guests. Out door didn't close flush so at night you could see light coming through from the hallway - even with that we didn't hear people out and about. Overall, this is a charming place that we definitely said we'd bring our kids back to! For a couple traveling for their anniversary looking for a place to just lay their heads, it worked out extremely well!

You cannot control the room temperature , and there were no additional pillows or blankets available. The furniture was old, outdated and uncomfortable . Find another place to stay .
