I enjoyed my stay 3 night stay at Dreydon House. Janis and Bill are kind and friendly hosts. The price is very reasonable and includes a tasty homemade breakfast. The room was comfortable with private bathroom. It is in a quiet residential area and a ways from downtown. read more

Bill & Janis were absolutely wonderful! We booked via Air BnB and they immediately messaged me to confirm. It was easy to communicate with them regarding our stay. Once we arrived, Bill greeted us and gave us a tour of their adorable home. My gfs and I were very comfortable during our stay. Everything was clean and very homey. There were TVs in each room. They even have a huge variety of DVDs had you choose to stay in for the night. There's a mini fridge and microwave in the room with the twin beds in case you wanted to eat in as well! Very accommodating and made our stay that much easier. In the morning, Bill and Janis made us the CUTEST & delicious breakfast. We learned so much about them, Cambria, and some fun trivia about Hearst Castle. Bill even helped us obtain discounted tickets! This was everyone's first experience at a Bed & Breakfast and it was great. I would recommend staying at the Dreydon House to anyone!! read more

A friend and I took a women's weekend away to Cambria and found this little gem of a B&B. For a VERY reasonable price, we stayed in Bill & Janis's home. In fact, we each had our very own room and private entrances. When we came home after a day of exploring, we found bags of popcorn and fresh waters in our fridge, right next to the home's wonderful DVD collection. The service couldn't be better, as husband and wife team Bill & Janis are multilingual, sweet, and very concerned with their guests happiness. The details in the home's decor are amazing. Breakfasts cooked by Bill are delicious and start your day off right. If you travel with 2 children, this home is an amazing value, as Mom & Dad can share the queen bed and the kids can have a twin bed each in their own room. Why not 5 stars? Both my friend and I were disappointed in the quality of the mattresses we slept on. They were much too soft, perhaps older. If they got new mattresses, we would go back. Otherwise, our backs can't take it. Other than that - we were very happy with all other aspects of our stay. read more

This b and b is pretty much as good as it gets! We have stayed in fancy places extra rooms in family homes, and prefer the latter. This home is the best of both, with gourmet cooking, wonderfully caring hosts, and both space and privacy As to the mattress issue: this is highly personal. The fanciest mattresses are impossible for me to sleep on. This (queen) mattress seemed noisy to me but I am not used to sleeping on a box spring. @ Felicia J who posted immediately after our stay: we experienced NO mold smell, NO "old nosey [sic] people" and certainly NO "mediocre cooking. Since she states that children are "upstairs often" I presume she's stayed more than once-- why, if it's so awful? I have to question the motivation of this post. We heard about the grandchildren, but only because we asked after seeing the family pictures. It's my understanding that they live out of town. When we left, we had made new friends. My only hope, as word of this gem spreads, is that we'll be able to get reservations again before too long. I really wished we had known about this when our kids were teenagers; they could have had their own room and we could have had privacy at the same time. For anyone with kids old enough to sleep alone in a room with a slider to a wonderful porch (3+) I think this would be a wonderful, memorable experience. read more

I've always wanted to stay in a B&B. Staying in Bill and Janis' home was my first experience with that. The little garden in the front of our entrance is lovely! The decor and care in which they set everything up is wonderful. You can tell they take great pride in their home and their service to their guests. Breakfast was beautifully set and delicious! Bill and Janis are extremely friendly and it was great to chat with them during breakfast. They have every type of accommodation you would dream of needing. It's a beautiful area and home and Bill and Janis just made our stay even better. I would HIGHLY recommend staying here and will definitely come back again. read more

This place is scary!! The lady who runs it is nosy and doesn't really do anything but bother you with questions. It smells like mold, and the beds squeak and are horrible. If you like old nosey people and mediocre cooking then this is the place for you. There are children upstairs often as they babysit their loud grandchildren. The laundry room is right by the bedrooms and with only one bathroom there is no true privacy. read more

this cozy b&b is highly recommended. bill and janis have created a comfortable spot for singles or for families. two separate rooms, one with 2 twin beds and a TV and a sliding glass door to an outside patio and one with a queen size bed, a nicer/larger TV, and the main front entrance. they speak many languages and know a lot about the hearst castle nearby, as they used to be tour guides. they'll cook a homemade and filling breakfast for you and then sit and chat with you while you eat - a great way to start your day. they encourage you to make yourselves at home and even to not worry about making too much noise. they have coffee makers/cups and coffee, and wine glasses, in the room. the price is very reasonable and overall our group was very pleased. if you stay here, make sure to eat at black cat bistro in downtown cambria and to go see the elephant seals just south of piedras blancas! dec/jan is the best time to go because it's pup season so you can see the baby seals! also, of course go tour the hearst castle. mozzi's is a fun bar downtown too, and sweet offerings has great candy and sweets. read more

I am going to try my best to write a balanced review, because #1 we love Justin Wines and are…read moremembers of the Wine Society, and #2 overall we had a good stay and staff were friendly. If there were a 3.5 stars, I'd do that. We were in the Isosceles Suite, which is lovely. You are greeted with a bottle of wine which is also lovely. In addition, you supposedly get a free tasting at your meal (more on that later). FYI - each special thing that you receive is a one-time only - regardless of how many nights you stay. That includes the cheese plate, which we devoured on Sunday night because the restaurant was not open. Since we were also there the next night with no restauant, it would have been thoughtful and appropriate for the Inn to supply a cheese plate again. The woman who took care of our room was very helpful and pleasant. The bedroom was comfortable and the beds were good. The bathroom was spacious, but the large and oddly shaped tub was just plain awkward and a bit dangerous. The shower was such that you had to stand in a very narrow spot (I wish I had taken a photo of this) and the soap and shampoo and conditioner were all in very heavy ceramic jars with wide mouth lids. If you dropped one of those on your feet? Trust me, I made sure I didn't. Also, the water got into the jars despite trying to avoid that (sorry for nitpicking here but a room that goes for $720 a night should be perfect). Few outlets near the bed, although they are sprinkled around the room and very poor wifi. Breakfast. You had better not be fussy. The chef makes some wonderful dishes for breakfast, but there are no options, not even a side of toast. For example, I had a delicious chorizo omelet, but it was on top of avocado toast, which I dislike. The side of fruit and yogurt was the only option. The first morning we had a very tasty small quiche along with the fruit and yogurt and OJ. Again, no toast, bread, etc. By the second day we knew enough to bring back some baked goods from town. That shouldn't be necessary. I know others have criticized the kitchen but we didn't use it except for coffee. If you stay on any of the 4 nights that the restaurant is not open, be certain that you bring food from town or are prepared for a very dark and windy road back to the Inn - if you go out to a restaurant. On Sunday, we ordered extra food from lunch, only to discover that what we ordered (the flatbread) was so greasy we threw it out and we ended up devouring the cheese plate which was pretty small for 3 people. We happened to visit when the area was having major rain storms. Our bad. When we left in pouring rain it seemed fine, however returning (thankfully before dark) we found a tree that had fallen and was blocking the road that led to the Inn. No cell service, no wifi - the navigation system thus not helpful - and only because I remembered seeing some small roads on a map did we (with luck and no further fallen trees) get back to the Inn coming from the other direction. The staff told us the next day that they were shocked we had gone out in the morning, but no one thought to call to see if we got back at night. No one was staffing the Inn. Regarding the "free" tasting that you get at the restaurant. It is free if you do the non-reserve tasting. If you choose the reserve tasting, and I would guess that most Wine Society members would indeed do that, then you are charged the full $80 per person. If the $40 tasting is free, then shouldn't the $80 tasting be $40???? It not only makes no sense, it is a bit insulting. Based on the excellent wines we'vepurchased from Justin over many, many years, I would have expected to leave a 5 star review plain and simple. I will admit that all three of us were a bit disappointed. Small things can make a real difference. Love the wines (most), but the Inn, not so much.

Martin who is the owner and purchased this vineyard in 2005, he built this winery literally from the ground up. He is a native from New Zealand and brought the Kiwi culture into this unique winery which is 1 of 300 wineries in Paso Robles. Julia was very helpful & kind, and an excellent wine pourer. I purchased the 2023 Kapua (white blend) for $36 and a short sleeved t shirt for $26. This being our first stop on our "Wine Line" tour was worth the views and ambience, great tasting and full of the Kia Ora spirit!

The property is located in the rolling hills not far from the main road but tucked away enough to feel away from it all. The price point for the rooms is below the value received. There is not a restaurant on site, but they do provide a daily delicious breakfast in an indoor lovely setting that was included. They offer an extensive Sunday brunch for $39.00. Parking is sufficient for the number of suites and an EV charger is located in 2 stalls. The staff is accommodating. Allegretto vineyard and winery is just down the way with a lovely upscale restaurant if you don't want to go downtown which is 11 minutes away with a plethora of choices for dining and shopping. Can't wait to return to this gem. I did have a problem with booking through a third party service, so I would suggest booking directly to ensure your room is available.

When we checked in and got to our room, the property felt completely empty. We were the only guests we could see, which made the whole place feel eerie and uncomfortable. We walked around the entire property and saw no one. There were only three cars in the parking lot, including ours and the front desk employee's car, yet we were told they were "fully booked" when we asked about moving to a larger room. The room itself was not great. The bed is extremely hard and squeaks with every movement. On top of that, the AC does not work. We told the front desk before leaving for dinner about the AC and were told someone would come fix it. When we returned, the room was even hotter than before & it felt like walking into a sauna. The windows don't open, so the only way to get air in is by opening the doors, which obviously lets bugs in. The "free wine tasting" was also frustrating. At check-in, we were told that we would get complimentary tastings at the tasting room. When we went to the tasting room, we were told they were "too busy" for tastings and that we would need to buy glasses of wine instead. We didn't want to make a scene, so we ended up purchasing a bottle and a glass, which came out to $85 & we never received the tastings we were told were included with our stay. Overall, this has been a terrible experience. Between the uncomfortable room, broken AC, lack of guests/staff on the property, and being denied the complimentary tasting we were promised, I would not recommend staying here. Do not let the 4.6 rating fool you.

mission ranch was on every single carmel-by-the-sea itinerary that i had come across, so i knew i…read morehad to visit at least once! we came around 4 PM for the early grazing/cocktail menu and were seated right away with a front view of the ranch. we mainly came bc we wanted to see the sheep grazing, but we were unfortunately seated behind a giant fireplace and weren't able to see any sheep during our meal... it was also cloudy we went, so the views weren't as nice as i had seen in pics with the sun, but that couldn't be helped ofc! moving onto the food, i'd say that it was overall good but nothing outstanding that would make me come back solely for the food. i think mission ranch is definitely best for the views! - crispy calamari: had a crispy batter, and the calamari was soft with a good chew! - bbq beef ribs: these were really tender and fell off the bone! the sauce was a good sweet & salty balance. - clam chowder: this was okay, but it was missing some depth and clam flavor personally. there were definitely better clam chowders elsewhere in monterey bay and carmel. - garlic bread: good and crispy, but it was just bread LOL it was yummy dipping it into the clam chowder tho! - orange sunrise: this cocktail was kinda expensive for how little alcohol was actually in the drink, and it tasted alright. nothing memorable i'd say. overall, mission ranch was a fun place to visit for the vibes! i think it's a good place to visit at least once during your carmel trip.

It was tender and came with veggies and a baked potato. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the veggies were cooked. I'm not a huge fan of squash but I really enjoyed it. I had left overs because of how big the steak was. We also had a basket of garlic bread which was good. It wasn't the best garlic bread I've had but it was and they gave us a lot. I tried both the bread pudding and affogato which were delicious. All were made in house including the ice cream. Overall, it was a great experience as the ambiance was amazing. It was like three different sections: outside, inside, and closer to the bar area which got really packed. I want to return to experience the Sunday brunch.

The inn is located on the state beach access road with the other small inns. This location is only two floors and we got the 2nd floor in the middle. The lobby is cute and offers complimentary coffee in the morning and tourist information (where to go and what to see). Our room is nice. It came with two queen beds with a mini bar/kitchen. We have a Keurig machine and complimentary cookies and water bottles. There is no central air but a ceiling fan to cool off the room. There is a faux decorative fireplace to warm up the room and to make it a bit romantic if you are staying with your significant other. Bathroom has a shower and is pretty good in size just like the room. There is a complimentary breakfast each morning and you can order one meal from the selections. Anything extra is an additional $5. Food is good and service is quick. If you are here for a couple days or just spending the night, this is the place to. Be. You are conveniently across the street from the beautiful ocean and there are some cool and popular restaurants a few doors down like the Sea Chest. Plus, it doesn't feel like one of those big chain hotels and feels like a home away from home. Happy staying!

We enjoyed our stay and all the front desk employees were extremely polite, helpful and accommodating. The room was very clean. The fireplace is easy to use and extremely effective. However, I would like to make a few suggestions on how to improve the experience of staying at Moonstone Landing for all your guests: First, please provide your guests with 3-ply, SOFT toilet paper. The cheap, one-ply toilet paper this hotel uses was horrible to use. If you're asking guests to pay premium prices for these rooms then at least provide them with decent toilet paper. Second, please consider investing in NEW, comfortable outdoor patio chairs with accompanying foot rests. The chairs you have now feel cheap and uncomfortable. Third, I would jazz up the "average" continental breakfast. It's the one thing hungry guests look forward to every morning and the pastries provided leave one underwhelmed and still hungry. Linn's cheese danish pastries are delicious but the other two muffins were "meh". The boiled eggs are fine. I think adding a variety of cereals would be appreciated. Maybe provide granola bars? Fourth, I know renovations are costly. But at some point you'll have to redo the stone flooring in all the bathrooms as the long cracks in the stone initially make a bad impression. Again, we enjoyed our stay and I would recommend this hotel. As a long-time patron, I'm offering my insights in the hopes you'll make the necessary changes to stay competitive and continue to draw in new guests.

The upper campground - Washburn is further from the water but with nice views of the mountains. In between is nice too, just avoid the high hundreds numbers - 131. 132,133 for wind. Beach access was cool. Lots of green rocks and driftwood for kids to build with. They also had an amphitheater and we saw a ranger talk on great white sharks. Also a nice home base to go your Hearst castle or do wine tasting. Cambria and Harmony are cute nearby towns to see.

I also bring moving blankets to layer the tent floor. The condensation that builds up in the tent will make the floor wet. My set up was tarp, tent, moving blankets, air mattresses. Slept great. The bathrooms up here are pits but the toilets are decent enough and the buildings are handicap accessible. You can drive down to San Simeon and use the showers. They take tokens (if the machines work but luckily we found a shower that ran without tokens). The negatives: Ground squirrels. Dozens and dozens with zero fear. Keep your food secured in totes or in your car. The crows and squirrels will get into your plastic bags. It can get breezy in the afternoon. Secure your tents and canopy. Cell service? Spotty if at all but that makes the charm even better. Bring a book. Games. Take a hike. Hikes; this is tick country. Wear long socks and tuck your long pants into them. You e been warned. Fire pits (with a cooking grate) are nice. Nice concrete picnic tables. It's roughly 10 minutes to Cambria, 10 minutes to Hearst Castle, 15 minutes to Cayucos, 25 minutes to Morro Bay. I'll stay here again for sure.

April 15-18, 2025 - San Simeon State Park…read more There are two campgrounds at San Simeon State Park: San Simeon Creek Campground and Washburn Campground. Washburn Campground is a primitive campground located approximately 1 mile inland from the beach on a plateau overlooking the Santa Lucia mountains. The campground is accessed through the entrance kiosk at San Simeon Creek Campground. There is a short portion of the road that leads into the campground that is unpaved. We had no problem with it in our motorhome. There are 68 campsites. Facilities include a fire ring and picnic table at each campsite, water spigots, and chemical flush toilets. Token-operated showers, an RV sanitation station and RV water fill-up are available nearby at the San Simeon Creek Campground. Washburn Campground is the more remote and quieter of the two campgrounds. The campsites are fairly spacious and level. We stayed in site 212; but next time I will choose a site not at the corner of the roadway, because there was too much traffic along the rough unpaved road alongside our campsite. We had a beautiful view, though, of the mountains. Saw deer in the distance.
