We came by to enjoy a quick one night and two day trip in Cambria a few months back and loved our stay at the Rigdon house. The host Christian was very hospitable and kind throughout our whole stay. He welcomed us upon arrival and showed us the wonderful amenities. The atmosphere is just perfect, and the rooms are spacious with a Victorian charm. The vibe here truly feels so homey and cozy, plus your nestled in the trees and greenery outside. So many nearby shops, restaurants, and markets in walkable distance. The check-in desk closes at 8PM, so make sure to arrive prior to that time. The house is old-fashioned, but everything looks nice. There are complimentary treats and drinks for guests in the lobby. The room is big and has refrigerator inside. One bad experience was finding that dirty towel on top of the bathtub. Was not sure the usage of the dirty towel and everyone was off work at 8PM. We have been coming here annually for about the last 7-8 years. We always enjoy ourselves. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Every evening there is a Happy Hour for alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks. Always a fire going each evening in the patio fire pit. Enjoyable experience. I didn't give 5 stars this time because of the following; *bathroom fan definitely needs to be fixed/replaced. It made a really loud racket. *pillows are too small and uncomfortable. *chain came off the toilet flap-easy fix, but the end of the chain needs to be squeezed with pliers to prevent it from happening again. *the bed was uncountable as well. The room we had was charming and quite large, with a cute fake fireplace and lovely furniture with an 1880's Victorian style feel to it (the year the house was built). Conveniently located, reasonably priced, hospitable and dog friendly. This was an enjoyable experience, the room was descent and the bed was comfortable. The hosts provided snacks, allowed access to dining area for things like dishes and silverware, coffee and tea, and the hosts didn't hover. They had a happy hour and the drinks were good. They are the closest hotel to the dog park, too, though there are ample places to walk dog. We did have some difficulty with overnight temperature control, and blew a fuse which took some time to get tended to, in the morning. We have stayed here a few times, and we love it. The first time was about three years ago. We try to come regularly. We just got back from another weekend at Rigdon House. The staff is friendly and great to chat with. We love the accommodations and the location. Our favorite places are just a few minutes walk from our room. We love: 1. Happy hour and a complimentary drink; the Cosmo is excellent. 2. The room is spacious and relaxing; we love the windows and the comfy bed. 3. The firepit is pleasant and inviting, a great place to meet other travelers. 4. The location is close to everything. 5. Parking is excellent, close, and plentiful. What we would improve: 1. The TV could be updated to a Smart TV so we can stream our favorites, like Netflix and Paramount. 2. The water pressure in the shower is lacking. The shower and the bathroom are clean and feel new; they are nice, aside from water pressure. 3. This is small, but mount the TV to the wall so the fireplace does not lean. The wife and I came for the Paso blend fest and needed a place to stay. She found Rigdon House on Travelocity and booked it because the price was right and it's super close to everything in downtown. Then again everything in downtown Cambria is close to everything else since it's only a couple of blocks long. We found the hotel easily and got taken care of by the manager, Alexa. We were a little early for check-in so she showed us around the hotel and we came back later to check in. You can tell the hotel was at one time a house and got added to over the years. It has a quaint, old world charm. Before going to dinner we had a couple of complimentary drinks in the lounge and chatted with Alexa. Then we relaxed in the back by the fire pit. The room we stayed in was HUGE! I thought maybe they had made a mistake but I wasn't going to say anything. Alexa said that our room had recently been remodeled and it showed. The bathroom fixtures were awesome. Whomever put this room together must watch a lot of HGTV or something. About the only downsides to our room were that it didn't have central heating. No problem during the day but at night it did get pretty cold in the room. The hotel did provide 2 space heaters so I ended up putting 1 on each side of the bed when we went to sleep. Also because this was once an old house you do hear the creaky floors when people walk around upstairs and you can hear the water run when someone upstairs flushes the toilet. But these are very minor inconveniences. We LOVED our stay at the Rigdon House. Unfortunately Alexa mentioned that she was going to be moving to Oregon in the near future so the hotel has big shoes to fill when she leaves. read more

I am hoping this review reaches the owner so they can make the experience right. I booked 2 rooms at the Rigdon house for one night this past weekend. When my husband and I arrived in our room, we sat on the bed as his parents took our dog to their room to unpack. As we were on the bed I pointed out a jumping black dot I thought was a flea, but because it disappeared quickly my husband was convinced it was a piece of fluff. It unfortunately was a flea and I wish I acted on it so I wouldn't have to deal with manager Natasha. We sat by the fire with Kirby, our dog, on our lap, grabbed dinner, and went to bed. By 2am we were covered in flea bites and in the morning Kirby couldn't stop itching. Sure enough we found little black dots in his fur. We left at 7am on Monday after a rough night of sleep, but not before I filled out a form letting the hotel know this room was infested with fleas, taking a picture of my legs with bites, and requesting to be contacted for a refund for our room #18 (only our room- the other room we paid for was fine.). I followed up with an email and used the dated form and flea bite photo as an attachment. Today Natasha reaches out and tells me she will not be giving me a refund because she had someone check for bugs and there was nothing so my dog must have "gotten from the surrounding forest and beaches." Even though we did not explore in Cambria. I asked Natasha for proof of the pest control check, knowing for a fact they would have to find fleas there since we found them in the bed. Her saying there were no fleas made me realize that she didn't actually check since fleas will stay much longer than 2 days. Natasha didn't send me proof, instead she insinuated that my dog was a problem because he didn't get along with another dog. I'm not sure what that has to do with a flea infested room, but I went ahead and let her know that the owner let us know before hand her dog was not friendly to humans or other dogs and so we kept them separated while we were sitting around a fire pit. My dog is very friendly to dogs - but again why did she feel the need to bring this up? Poor management skills. I hope someone with better management skills than Natasha can right this wrong and investigate properly. Even if she claims Kirby got fleas from "beaches and forests" the fleas would be in that room. That literally proves she didn't check properly. But of course, as I said, we didn't explore any areas in Cambria. Kirby didn't play with other dogs. We came to stop for dinner and rest and at 2am we were being bitten by bugs. As a responsible pet owner, I understand fleas happen. As a responsible pet owner, I immediately filled out the form so they wouldn't book someone in the infested room. But even if Kirby wasn't there we would have gotten bit because I saw the flea in the bed. I would have still have had to ask for a refund from a restless night of getting bit. I understand that fleas can happen in a pet friendly hotel, but what Natasha is doing is negligent. We should get a refund if they can't help their bug problem. I hope the owner sees this issue and investigates properly. I am appalled that this is the way she is handling this. read more

Wow what a great place! I will stay here next time I come out to Cambria. There was a very nice lady who helped me over the phone pick my room that was right for me. When we arrived Christian was busy working but quickly stopped to great use and show us around. He checked us in and we went to our beautiful room. I was very please. I am always fearful of places that may not be cleaned well. This place was tidy. What a relief. There is happy hour and on some days live music! Chairs to lounge in and different rooms to hang out- outside of your room. Outdoor hangout with a fire out. Lights strung across the sky for us to enjoy the night away. Stayed here for 3 days for my daughters Sweet 16th Birthday and had a wonderful experience! The Rigdon House was built in the late 1800's, & is located in East Village in a perfect location near shops and dining. Everything was of excellent quality! The grounds are so cozy and nice. Awesome patio out back w a fire pit. We had a pet friendly family room that was so spacious and clean. I love the snack area next to the check in lobby & library. They supply fresh fruit, teas and coffee. There was also yummy apple cider! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was very sweet and quick to help w toiletry requests. This is the best lodging experience I've had in a long time. Can't say enough good things! I will definitely return to Cambria and stay at Rigdon House again, and again. read more

Cambria, CA I'm not sure if the entire property has renovated rooms but the room I stayed in was a luxurious, modern, newly rennovated just 2 months ago in an ultra modern beautiful style. The bed and the linens were both very nice, clean and comfortable. Everything was booked in Cambria, it was very difficult to find a room. This is a small property that I had bookmarked, I believe a friend of mine told me about it, and I noticed Yelper Candice L's positive review from a few years ago which was also nice to see. Even though this place did not serve breakfast they had hot tea, hot chocolate, and coffee available at any time, some fruits, and a full bar with cocktail hour and 2 complimentary cocktails and light bites, even live music on Friday night. Christian helped me book the reservation he was so helpful. He also helped me check in and was the bartender. I probably paid top dollar for the room versus booking on a booking site, but due to the nature of my last minute reservation I was happy to get something this nice, right in town. I did not opt for a cocktail but Christian applied my complimentary 2 drinks by providing me with San Pellegrino which was iced cold and refreshing. The light bite for the evening was sliced baguette rounds with goat cheese and bacon jam. I tried one and it was very good. I also saw Christian constantly cleaning up and making sure the place looked tidy. I was very impressed with the cleanliness, the place was spotless. In the evening I returned back to the property settled in to watch a movie and then went to go make my hot tea in the lobby in their beautiful porcelain cups. I noticed microwavable popcorn in a basket. I rarely eat microwaved popcorn, but it was the Act 2 extra butter kind, so I popped some in the lobby/kitchen area microwave and I indulged in a quarter of a bag while watching my movie. I forgot to mention the room also has a microwave as well as a refrigerator and coffee maker, but I barely used any of it. I will definitely stay at this property again. Next time I will remember to ask how to work the fireplace because I would have loved to run it at night but couldn't figure out how to work it. It appeared to be a gas fireplace but maybe it was not completely working because the switch did not turn anything on. This property has someone that only stays until 10 o'clock so I found it difficult to disturb someone on the after hours number just to find out how to use the fireplace, so I just figured maybe it was not in operating order or fully hooked up. Parking is conveniently outside in a dedicated parking lot for this establishment. The property is located in downtown near all of the shops. This is a great location and the shops on North and South Main street are very accessible by foot, and it is an easy 5 minute drive down to the ocean, and Moonstone Beach. read more

This place is incredible! Had never heard of The Rigdon House until it popped up on hotels.com. Glad it did. Super friendly staff checked me in, then walked me to my two room suite room (#20). The lobby smelled incredible and she said that it was due to the bacon jam she was making for Friday night's happy hour appetizer. Happy hour is from 5-7 and includes two drinks and the appetizer of the night. The hotel is very cute, quiet and clean and right in the middle of town. What has happened to the service here. We stayed here and the front desk woman was so unfriendly. Also locks busted and someone was at our door in the middle of the night. Used to have coffee and continental breakfast and no one was there until after 10 am The bed was very uncomfortable and I think we got bit by fleas. I had one on my arm that came from the sofa. Cutest little small town hotel ever!!! I felt like I was living in a Hallmark holiday movie and I was all about it. Chose it for its location to the Xmas market but was happily surprised to find such a gem. Highlights: - Adoreable house that looks so quaint from the moment you see it - Nightly happy hour: best one I've ever had with not just subpar wine like hotels offer but made to order cocktails with a fun festive list. I was so excited for this especially cause I love a pre-dinner coctail but many restaurants in town only do beer and wine. Holiday ones included fun version of hot toddy, cranberry mule, and a pumpkin almond milk one. They even have a freshly homemade snack each night: one was a meat and cheese skewer and another bacon jam crostini. - Large rooms with super comfortable bed, pillows, and sheets. This is not standard in hotels so I fully appreciated it. - Super cute patio with little round tables and a fire pit. - Great location on the side street walkable to all of downtown Cambria, across the street from the Xmas market shuttle, and a short 8 minute drive to a lovely oceanside trail. - Precious floral tea cup and saucer collection with a box of teas to choose from. - Super friendly staff - Bunch of snacks like bagged cookies and candies at reception and fruit and microwave popcorn in the other room. - Have the Hallmark channel so I could watch it while staying in a hotel fit to be in one of those movies. Yes I'm so meta like that. Midlights: - Don't need a full breakfast but would be nice to have some morning pastries available. - No oceanside view cause it's in town but you get the trade off for being walkable to several shops and restaurants. Lowlights: - Fire pit turns off at 9pm. Would love to sit by the fire later at night--we could try and be quiet for the other patrons. - It's a 3 hour drive away from home so won't get to stay here too often. LOVED this hotel so much and would come back to Cambria just to stay here again. They plan on making upgrades next year and would love to see what they do. read more

Stunning B&B in Cambria. I booked our King Room Suite about an hour or so before we checked in on the HotelsTonight ap since we couldn't make up our mind on where or even if we'd stay in the area or drive home to LA. I highly recommend the Rigdon House. Upon arrival, we were greeted for check in and I checked out the snack reception and had a glass of wine. Our room was gorgeous and very spacious. The water pressure from the shower head is my only real complaint. Perhaps, I should have taken a bath instead :) the fire places (two of them) are more for visuals but still lovely, the AC/heat works very well for temperature control throughout the space. The bed frame was a tad bit squeaky (it was one of those 4 post canopy style frames) which may have been the reason. Located almost directly across the street from Robin's where we had a dinner rezzie and an extremely short walk to Linn's for pie and jam to bring home. Breakfast is provided even if you don't make your way over for it until 11A (check out). This property really is just delightful and so charming for a relaxing trip away. I loved the diversity of their guests and really couldn't have asked for more. Plenty of parking, lovely back courtyard area with strung lights, amazing room. I guarantee you'll love it! Absolutely charming place! My husband and I took a spontaneous trip to Cambria (thanks to our kids) and the Rigdon House was the icing on the cake! From the moment we arrived we were warmly greeted by Natasha and her excellent customer service continued throughout our entire stay. The location is ideal, you can literally walk everywhere; great restaurants, shops and even a cool saloon. I must say this place is an absolute hidden gem on the central coast! For years Cambria has been a favorite place to stop. We recently took a couples getaway and booked a room at the Rigdon House and promptly returned with our family two weeks later. We just couldn't stay away. First of all the service and the staff is impeccable. From check in to happy hour to breakfast everyone is there to make your stay more comfortable! Second, the back patio is so inviting. The fire pit is roaring and warms you on those cool coastal nights. On our romantic getaway, My husband and I really enjoyed sitting out by the fire, drinking wine and playing cards! On our family trip our girls loved the fire and we even played a game of old maid before bed time. Third the rooms are big to say the least. Our family of four way very happy in our king room. It's very nice to have a sitting area that made down into a bed for our little ones. There was a coffee pot and a fridge in the room. The rooms are well appointed with everything you need. Initially I had my doubts about staying in a place that was so old but the owners have made every effort to keep it up. This history of the house is very interesting and I encourage you to read about it in the guest services binder. Last there is a trail behind the home that leads to a serene creek. I highly recommend taking advantage of the trails and walking paths in the area. Cambria has so much to offer; great food, fairy gardens, trails and very pleasant people. I came here with a group of friends as we were passing through on the Pacific Coast Highway. Highly recommend stopping in Cambria and also staying at the Rigdon House. If I could give it 10 stars I could. Check in was so fast and Alexa was a great host, concierge, bartender, and all around great person to chat with. The Rigdon house has a happy hour in the evenings where you can get 2 free drinks and delicious snacks. We ended up with a larger recently renovated room on the ground floor with a huge bathroom and a couch to sleep the third person. There's also an amazing outdoor seating area with a fire pit which is a great place to hang out and rest. There's not much to see within Cambria, but it's such a cute small town close to a beach and nature. Definitely stop in Cambria if you're driving through on the PCH. read more

Loved this place. My family of four stayed here and we were all very happy with it. The building is a historic one and is quite lovely. The common outside area was comfortable. I loved the fire pit. Other guests were friendly. The room was clean and spacious for the four of us. Beds were comfy. The complimentary happy hour drinks from 5-7 pm were great. Christian was a Jack of all trades and somehow did everything...checked us in, made great drinks as the bartender, baked delicious bread and made tasty appetizers, set out snacks, fruits, and coffee/tea which seemed to constantly be refilled, and was very friendly to boot. Lots a great things: Location! Smack in the middle of downtown. It's near all the shops and restaurants that we like to visit when we come here. The bed was comfy, king size, plenty of room. The room had great temperature control. This suite had a sitting area with couch, and love seat, coffee table and end tables. The sitting room gets a lot of light in the afternoon. Great room. This room was bigger than my first studio apartment! Clean. There were two TVs. A large on over the fake fireplace. And a small one to watch while in bed. We never turned them on. We did partake in their wine social. They had a nice spread of olives, crusty bread, oil and vinegar, pizza. We did partake in the continental breakfast. I like eggs- we went out. Third time in Cambria and this will be the only place I stay from now on! Everything about it was wonderful! The front desk person, Leala was so nice and helpful. Every time we came back to the hotel she greeted us like family (ones that you like). Our room was so spacious and comfortable! Loved the delicate cup and saucers on the table for our morning coffee. The patio and fire pit were wonderful too especially with the string of lights. It was an easy walk to Main Street and we had no worries about our safety since everyone was wearing masks and social distancing. We had a wonderful five night stay here! The room, a king suite, was large, comfortable, clean, and nicely appointed. Alexa and Christian were great, so welcoming, and helpful... plus good bartenders! The nightly happy hours were a perfect opportunity to meet our fellow guests. Socializing in large indoor common areas, outside around the fire pit, or just hiding away in your room, it was nice to have options. Free gourmet cocktails didn't hurt! We met so many interesting people, one incredible couple we intend on visiting again with in the future! We at first looked for accommodations near the ocean, but ended up being so glad we chose a place near all the awesome restaurants, bars, and shops. Within one or two blocks you are literally within walking distance of everything you need. And the beach was only a five minute drive with free parking. read more

So disappointing! I wish I could rate with 1/2 star. First of all, it is more of a dog hotel than a people hotel...which is great if you love dogs. At first appearances, the property seems well-maintained. At check in, we shared with the hostess that we were excited about the reviews we had read regarding the breakfast. She laughed rudely and advised that there was no breakfast anymore, but we could have as much microwave popcorn as our hearts desired... Yuck. Our room was on the ground floor. The window screens were broken and our room appeared to be the only one that did not have any sort of shutter or blinds. It looked as though they had literally been torn out of the wall. The room appeared clean, but I had a dozen or so bites within twelve hours and after reading the reviews I now attribute that to the fleas brought in on the dogs. We could hear every movement of the guests and pets upstairs, the floor was paper thin and resting was almost impossible due to the dog running around in the room above us. The patio area was spacious, but all of the cushions were sun-bleached and deteriorating. While the property is under camera surveillance, I did not feel safe whatsoever leaving my windows open at night. The patio is right off of the alley and there is no security gate or fence to prevent the public from directly accessing the property. The two staff members we encountered were not guest focused and in fact were very short and curt in their tone and demeanor. I would recommend looking at another property, especially if one does not consider spending time with dogs relaxing or comforting. On a positive note...Cambria itself is a nice little town with delicious food. Just be careful and don't be fooled by surface appearances. read more

First trip ever with no destination or reservations and we stumbled upon this place when our "first choice" was booked. How lucky we ended up being! Nestled at the end of the road up against the forest, this charming b&b (they don't call it that because they don't serve you full meals... more on that later) is so serene and quiet. Innkeeper Alexa was beyond wonderful and friendly. She offered us wine and homemade pizza when we arrived and showed us to our room #25 which had a great view of the woods and we even saw 3 deer outside the room late at night. The room was huge with a full sofa in addition to the king bed. Bathroom was nice and had a great shower too. They don't call this a B&B because they don't serve you full meals but the snacks were great and they had cereal, bagels, and fresh muffins and croissants for breakfast... that was B&B enough for us! There is a great patio area in back with a fire pit and lots of comfy chairs and couches to enjoy the peace and quiet of beautiful Cambria. Their location is perfect for a stroll about this charming little town that is a throwback to days gone by. There is no doubt that next time we're in Cambria, this will be our choice! read more
