2/5 STARS ~ upon entry to the front office, I was greeted with a person speaking abruptly and unkind voice. I told the person that I was here to check in to our room. He told me I cannot check in until 3 pm, and it was 2:45 pm. We left and came back. The next person at 4 pm on Saturday, July 4th, told us we could have our room cleaned and when we would like to schedule the room cleaning for Sunday. I told the person at 1 pm. When we came back after being away for the day, our place was not cleaned! I went to the front office and asked to have our place cleaned. The person at the desk, at the time 2:30 pm, told me we did not request the room cleaned because we were not on the hand written lined paper list. I told him that was not true as the person grabbed the paper when we checked in and wrote our room and time to be cleaned. The pool, not working and empty. The hot tub had too much chemicals and my skin itched like crazy. I stayed here many years ago and was always greeted with a friendly voice and granted early and late access even when I would pay. This property is located on Moonstone Beach, and therefore, has an exceptional location. However, that is shared with a number of other, similar properties. This property is owned by a company that owns at least four other properties on Moonstone Beach, and shares with them poor customer service. Examples from a recent stay include Wi-Fi that was frequently nonfunctional, and when complaints were made, we were told either that the problem couldn't be fixed, or couldn't be fixed until the next day because no maintenance staff were available. The rooms, lack decor and character, although the bed was very comfortable. When we asked that the waste baskets be emptied at the beginning of the day, we were told that since we did not make that request the night before, it could not be accommodated because of insufficient custodial staff. When I made this request to the manager on duty, she gave me a look as though I had asked her to donate a kidney. We emptied the baskets ourselves. The property has two fire pits, both of which were essentially nonfunctional. Also, the pool was closed. When they ran our credit card on check-in, they actually immediately charged the entire fee for the stay at once. This is an unusual practice, since most similar properties assess the actual charges for the room at checkout. If you were looking for a place to sleep, steps away from the boardwalk on Moonstone Beach, this will fit the bill, but there are a number of better options steps away from this property. read more

We would not ever return to FogCatcher Inn. The place was very rundown, the windows would not stay open, it looks like it has not been renovated in a decade and the place was overall filthy. The man at the front desk at check-in was also super rude. We would never return there again. read more

Quality of service was lacking on latest 4-day/3-night stay. We were forced to endure stay without a working room phone. Request for housekeeping service was never communicated to housekeeping. Window shade would not lower; when communicated to front desk, was never addressed. Also... In the multiple of August, the pool was unusable. There were two bottles of body lotion, but no hand soap, in the bathroom, and no bar soap. read more

This hotel was ok to stay in,.. but expect dirty uncleaned/unmopped floors if you like to be barefoot or have babies and kids barefoot. Best wear sandals at all times. Pretty dirty chairs near the windows, had to drape towels over. Was gonna ask for a mop and broom at one point since babies feet were black after walking around the room. We stayed the weekend and also a Monday which i assume is not normal cause once Sunday checkout happened for basically the entire place, they shut down our cards to unlock the room as well, even though we had 1 more night. Not the end of the world but we had to wait during the staffers lunch to be over to get the keys situated..we also had a baby with us so it was a bit inconvenient since we had all of her food in the room for her. Just a little fussy baby. But the time went over their lunch and still no one in the office, so we found a house cleaner to unlock the room again until they were back from lunch. Besides it being close to the beach...STAY AWAY!!! Room is hot and stuffy. There is no AC. You must leave the windows open but if you close the blinds, you get no ventilation as the curtains have a cover blocking the air circulation. Also the dust caked on the window screen wouldn't allow it either way. In order to get any air circulation your have to leave the curtain up allowing anyone to look into your room...DANGEROUS AND CREEPY!!Customer service is almost non-existent... I went 3 times and each time they had a note stating they would be back. Phones don't work so calling isn't an option and WIFI barely works. For as much as they charge a night, i would at least expect a fan and a working refrigerator. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY!!!! read more

Always stay here whenever we visit the captivating town of Cambria because we like the fact that this hotel is only steps away from the beach and located near to 2 of our favorite restaurants (walking distance) : 1. Sea Chest and 2. Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Room is not big but feels comfortable and clean. Hotel has an outdoor pool (last time we went in September 2025, the pool was under construction). Parking is free. Room has a fireplace, a table by the window with 2 chairs, a work station, tv, coffee machine, refrigerator, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, & lotion. They used to serve breakfast but now has partnered up with the restaurant Cow Tipper about 0.5 mile up the road. So you can scan the barcode inside your room to order your breakfast for delivery or pick up. Or do what we do, we go directly to Cow Tipper. read more

This is a terribly managed and dirty motel. We made our reservation weeks in advance, but upon arrival the desk clerk announced that our room was no longer available, cavalierly stating after our long drive with two tired children: "Oh yeah, the manager was supposed to have called you." After informing him that this was unacceptable, we were given another room, although it could not adequately accommodate our children, who instead of sharing the queen bed we reserved had to sleep on a small and very uncomfortable (you could feel the springs in your back) and ratty pull-out. Additionally, the bathroom stank like sewage. After complaining to the manager (over the phone, since he was never on site), he apologized and told us that we would be refunded for one of our nights within the next five business days. Two months and many phone calls later, and we still have not received this promised refund. read more

This place is a real bummer!! It's not clean, everything is outdated and dumpy and everything seems to be broken. The customer service is dismal, the WiFi is barely functional and that's even more of a problem because there is no phone service at the inn. There is absolutely no air conditioning, at least in the room I stayed in, fine, but there is also no ceiling fan so the room is hot and stuffy, so you must sleep with the windows open and on the first floor, that seems a little sketchy. Great location if you're looking for a place to crash and be right on the beach, but otherwise, this inn is a dump and should be avoided. This inn needs a serious overhaul and clearly they are just relying on the fact that it's a good location so they don't seem to care that their inn stinks. read more

Located on Moonstone beach The motel/ inn has some good views from the parking lot. Located near the Sea Chest made it a great location us. We like being able to walk to dinner. You have easy access to the board walk across the street. We made our reservations on line with some difficulty as our original room selection did not confirm and we need to change rooms. Discounts are available through AARP AAA and to Pacifica membership. We received countless reminders several days before day before and day off. Many were offers to upgrade room late checkout earlier checkin for a fee. We checked in at 4pm . The desk was not professional they failed to mentioned a temporary hold of 50 dollars on my card above the room rate. We asked about an extra blanket and were told it was in room. It was not. They showed me the ice machine but it was non working. We had a partial view if you leaned next to the ft window and could see through the cars/trucks. The room was quiet except for a running toilet which masked the sound of the surf and a maids cart rolling by our window in the early morning so it would be ready for checkout time. We returned from dinner and found are toilet would not flush it was we felt to late to call the desk and we did not want to stay up to see if and when they would repair. I was able to fix the flapper my self. I advised the desk of this at check out and got a lecture on guest should not do repairs. Instead of a thank you for letting us know. ( I should not have to fix a flapper valve. They should not have a running toilet in an area with water restriction). I did get a text in self checkout but did not want to use as I had a possible fifty dollar overcharge . I had already been advised that if they overcharged I would not get it back ( I had been concerned that my reservation which disappeared would show back up. ) Large TV but no Channel guide. Yes they have WiFi but my ATT cellphone did not work in area. The bed was ok Pillows fair. No pressure in shower and the diverter valve switch fail off . Coffee maker with coffee and one bag of tea. You could get a water for 5 dollars a bottle. Chips available for sale in the lobby. The property does have a pool and fire pit. Would I stay here again I think not. I feel there are better options in town. read more

For almost $300 a night, you could do better. This room was overpriced, not too clean, and so outdated. Don't take the bottled water sitting on the table, they'll charge you $10. Also quite an inconvenient walk to get ice. I won't do this again. Almost forgot, windows are from the 80s, top panel will not lock into place. Also old shades that you have to secure with the cord and a hook on the wall. Don't expect hot water either, luke warm at best. read more

I stayed here by myself during a solo getaway! I love the location and it being right near the water and I could hear the waves from my room. Plenty of parking in the parking lot. I didn't know if there was breakfast provided and if there was I wish I took advantage of that, but they didn't tell me when I checked in. The room was nice with a fireplace and tv and full length mirror and the bed was super comfortable. The room smelled a little weird when I walked in, so I sprayed some room spray I had in my bag and the smell went away. Good price for location, room, and amenities. read more

We wanted to love this place so much despite the reviews we read. We wanted a place that had an ocean view from the room and the option to have breakfast delivered sounded great from the website and welcome email and we were looking for a place with a pool. But this did not happen. I will explain more below. We decided on an ocean view room and stayed Thursday-Sunday. The price was a lot higher than other rooms we had stayed at on Moonstone Beach Drive, but thought it made sense for the ocean view. When I went to check in the lady at the desk said we had a reservation for a partial ocean view so this surprised me. She also said there was a crack in the pool and it would not be available for our stay. This bummed me out since this was one of three reasons we picked this hotel. When we went to the room and I confirmed on my email that we should have an ocean view not partial, I called the front desk and she said she had misspoke and it was the ocean view. This was confusing once we brought our stuff in because there is a huge tree obstructing the ocean view. The lady from the desk did come and show us a different room, but that had an even worse ocean view. We also thought we were getting an outside sitting area and we did not. We decided to just figure it out and deal with the room. The room itself looked fine at first glance, but overall cleanliness was not great. When we walked in we wanted to open the blinds which was not easy to do. While moving the chairs to figure the blinds out, there was so much stuff under the chairs. We cleaned up a little and continued to unpack. We wanted one extra blanket and pillow and there were none in the room. We called the desk and they said it was in the closet. The closet in fact had nothing extra and we explained this again. We headed downstairs to get the pillow and blanket from the office. The shower was hot, but didn't have great pressure. The bed was nice and the pillows were good. The sound of the waves was the best part. In the morning we wanted to order breakfast but the hotel website said we should scan the QR code. We could not locate a code so we called the office. A girl told us that we would need to call the restaurant, Cow Tipper because if there wasn't a code other guests may have taken them. I said no problem and called the Cow Tipper. They said we have to use the QR code and that the hotel should have them. I explained what they told me and they said they would reach out to their manager to bring more QR codes to the hotel and they would call us back. We never received a call back as they said and the hotel also wasn't worried about it. At this point we just said let's go about our day and grab something in downtown Paso Robles. We know from experience that Cambria has older places and they don't have a lot of amenities, but it also seems like the FogCatcher Inn is banking on the location only. We love Cambria and we will continue to return since this is where we got engaged in 2020, but it will most likely not be at the FogCatcher Inn. read more

Nice ocean-front hotel in Cambria. We stayed in a king suite with partial ocean view. My husband and I took the bedroom and our daughter slept on a comfortable pullout bed in the living room. Decor was tasteful, ocean themed and relaxing. Bathroom had a huge mirror with fantastic lighting around the rim. Husband enjoyed the free fresh brewed coffee from the lobby on one of the outdoor benches. Just cross the street to an amazing walkway along the ocean cliff, with steps down to the beach. That evening we walked to a nice restaurant about 2 minutes down the road. Views there were equally beautiful. Would definitely stay there again! read more

We were coming down from Monterey Bay after a stay at the intercontinental. My son wanted to make a pit stop at Cambria and stay the night. Why not? We love Moonstone Beach. I tried looking at prices on Booking.com but the area doesn't have signal so I tried a few inns before we found availability at Fogcatcher inn. Price: $400 for a standard queen room and not worth the price point. Mind you that's the same price we paid at the intercontinental but vastly different standards. Room is incredibly outdated. It smelled humid and musty when we first opened the door. We opened the windows and noticed the mesh screens were ripped and broken. Refrigerator was old and dirty. No caffeine free tea options, no honey available for tea. The sofa chair in the room was stained and we definitely did not sit on this. In room water available at $5 a bottle. The door to the restroom would get jammed. All in all this room shouldn't be more than $200 even on Friday/Saturday busy season. Simply old, outdated, dirty and poor amenities and accommodations. read more

This inn was cute as it reminded me of a little cottage. It is located right across the ocean. The setup was very similar to the other inn we stayed at when we were at Pismo Beach as they were part of the same hotel group. This inn does need a little bit of an update. The lamp handle on the desk was broken and couldn't turn on. But they were able to replace it with a new one. There is a small fridge and microwave inside. The water in the tub took a long while to drain. I think the tub and the pocket door needs an update. Otherwise everything else was okay. Parking was right in front of our room and there were some tables and a fire pit in the middle of the property. There is only one person at the front desk and they usually take a lunch break. If you walk right across the street, there is a boardwalk where you can walk along the ocean. Great location! Cell phone Reception is horrible there. read more

Location was good. Other than that, this hotel has a lot of problems /room for improvement. Not handicap accessible as requested, & agreed upon by hotel, had 5 stairs to climb carrying heavy medical equipment. after a 5 Hour drive, we arrived at the room, laid down on top of the bed and it smelled like man's body odor, like the top bed cover had not been laundered. Building was old, unkept and needing repairs/ paint in some areas. No landscaping outside our room, just unsightly dirt. No air conditioning in rooms. It was only comfortable if there was an ocean breeze blowing in the open windows. If there was no breeze coming in through the open windows it was about 80°+ in the rooms, with 91% humidity it was uncomfortably hot and humid, which was most of the time during our 5-day stay. Water-spot stained windows. questionable stains on the fabric chairs. Minimal water pressure in the shower. Terrible dark-green low lighting over the bathroom mirror, difficult to see & not suitable for applying make up. Some of plugs in the room didn't work, with others looking like they were from the 1960s and not up to code, and the tray that was on the table was stained and unsightly. No guest information books in the room, offering information on local attractions, restaurants, etc. Unlike the photographs shown/ advertised on Yelp, NO breakfast of any kind offered, (Continental or otherwise,) and no food delivery from local restaurant(s) during the week (as advertised.) Although the man that checked us in was very nice, courteous and helpful, the woman that we talked to at the front desk on 7/16 Wednesday morning was curt and rude with us when we asked about the "food delivery from the Cow Tipper restaurant" that they advertised /verbally recommended and that the phone number listed on the your restaurant book in the front office was incorrect, she replied"Of course they don't deliver on Tuesdays!" (as if we were supposed to already know that) and "Yeah i know" about the phone number to the restaurant being wrong on your office directory. This room/hotel we were in needed some serious upkeep and upgrades. I would not recommend this hotel until after some changes are made. read more

The staff very friendly, a really nice room with vaulted ceiling., great coffee. I could actually see the ocean. Came here 4/2025 for my Mom's birthday. We had stayed here 30 years ago and not much has changed - which was charming initially but quickly went sideways. We booked via booking.com. Wanted a place close to the beach and dog friendly. Paid to check in early but ended up arriving late. Person at front desk wasn't the friendliest but she was dealing with problematic guests who were looking for bathroom. Finally checked in and room was quaint and looked like it did 30 years ago...We went to bed but around 9/10pm there were weird sounds from the bathroom. Loud clanging/banging. Thought it was the neighboring unit using the bathroom/tub. It turned out to be far worst. At 4am we were awoken to a loud and scary noise. Sounded like a burst pipe. We ran into the bathroom to see a virtual pond. Water was everywhere. Luckily it didn't leave the bathroom (my dog was in her crate, right outside the bathroom). We used all the towels to stop the water. There was no one onsite. At 8am, I went to the office to report this. I was told they would report it to the manager. They had limited office hours. About an hour later I told a maintenance worker about it and he came to the room. He was shocked and was back with the assistant manager. The water in the shower was also not draining (standing water). Turns out either pipe burst or a part (pump?) in the water tank was missing/defective. They ended up moving us to their other property because the room wasn't safe. Instead of moving us by 10am, we didn't move until 4pm. The staff said that if we booked via property directly, we would've gotten a full refund. I was told to contact booking.com. They (booking.com) said they'd love to give full refund but this had to be done by property. Basically they pointed fingers at each other. We couldn't sleep all night and then basically lost the next day moving to another property and room. The Asst Manager tried to make it right, but was limited in what he could do. The new room had stairs on one side and our original room was ADA - replacement room was not. I wish the property would make this situation right. read more

Absolutely RECOMMEND!! Fantastic location, right across the street from gorgeous Moonstone Beach and minutes from Cambria downtown. (Which is such a beautiful and lovely downtown with shops and restaurants that are so good). The property is so beautiful. The rooms are just so quaint yet elegant. No A/C, just a beautiful electric fireplace. The beds are SUPER comfy, the pillows too! Like; for real, so much I thought about asking to buy a pillow. The towels are soft too. And the shower head has a strong stream! Genuinely this place is just amazing! I want to come back today!! read more

Excellent value, perfect location and very comfortable beds!! The room also had a coffee maker, fridge and microwave - which were handy to keep/reheat the very tasty leftovers from local restaurants! Extremely helpful, professional, and pleasant staff. The only negative was that it had the worst bathroom sink setup we may have ever encountered. There were 3 adults in the room (108) and there was only enough spaces for all our toothbrushes - balancing makeup and skin care items was very frustrating. The mirror was VERY dimly backlit so again, putting on makeup was a challenge. Also, the soap holder was a bamboo tray that held water and the soap adhered to it tightly so it was always a soggy mess. We discovered it helped to set it upright on an edge, making it easier to pickup without getting a lot of soap-goo under our nails. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and will come again - but ask for a different room. We may even bring our dog! read more

Here for our 26th wedding anniversary. We visited Hearst Castle and we chose this hotel to stay at. They do have plenty of free parking which is always a plus. The beach is located just a few steps out the door.They also have a pool. Although, the weather was cool we did see people enjoying it. The room is a very nice size. It had a nice fireplace that operated just by turning the switch on. Our room had a refrigerator and a microwave. The bathroom was a great size with all full size toiletries. The bed was nice and comfy with great pillows. They also have lamps on each side of the bed . The lamps have plenty of outlets on there to charge your devices. Overall, a great experience and hopefully we will come back in the near future. We literally had no complaints and we enjoyed our short visit. read more

The place was beautiful, location and price great! Comfy beds, unique place. The only thing there was no EV charging stations, I just don't know whey I assumed there would be. I looked up chargers and there were a lot.....but all of them were if you were a guest at another place. Hopefully they get a charging or even just a plug, I had to drive 35min to the super charger, which was super inconvenient. So we'd stay agin if they had a charger/outlet. read more

Falling asleep to the sound of the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean and it not just being some YouTube video, but instead real life is why I highly recommend staying here. The Inn was fairly priced and offers a tremendous location. It's not some 5 star ritzy place, but it's charm and staff more than make up for it. Many times I went to the front desk for advice on food places and more and they were so friendly and helpful. There's bonfires, a pool, and a hot tub as well. Moonstone Beach is literally right across the street and there's a great wooden walkway to take a sunset walk on every evening. I can't wait to come back! read more

We took a trip here over the weekend for my birthday. The location is great -- it's right by the beach, which was a big plus. We stayed in room 604, which was cozy and even had a fireplace. The bathroom seemed pretty clean at first, but when I removed the bathtub mat, there were hairs and dirt underneath. The worst part was taking a shower and realizing the water wasn't draining properly. After that, we decided to relax in bed and watch TV, but the bed was awful. We sank right into the mattress and could feel the springs digging into our backs. After about 15 minutes, we gave up and went to watch TV in the living room area instead. I have back and neck issues, so I ended up sleeping on the couch, and my husband slept on the floor next to me. We got up at 6 AM the next morning and decided to check out early. For the price this place charges, you'd expect better maintenance, working plumbing, and at least a decent mattress. The pool wasn't even working, there was no free breakfast, and a single bottle of water cost $5. Definitely not worth the price. The location is the only redeeming quality. read more

We booked an ADA room with a roll in shower, when we arrived it was a tub and the reception said they had no other rooms. I asked to cancel and the said I had to cancel through the third party Pacifica. I called Pacifica within the time allowed to cancel and they said it had to be reviewed. Extremely disappointed with Pacifica rentals and apparently they now own most of the hotels on Moonstone in Cambria. Our recommendation is to book independently. read more

We found this place because it was one of the least-expensive hotels in Cambria and we were so surprised. It is charming, impeccably clean with top amenities inside a 1950s-era Cape Cod building. Our room was a suite with a fireplace, with amazing ocean views even though it was called only a partial-ocean-view room. Front desk staff was very welcoming. We received champagne to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the general manager David Pulliam gave us a fabulous dinner recommendation. Across the street is a pristine beach with driftwood forts. There is so much to explore in this town, we will be coming back for a longer stay next time. read more

Night one: As we entered our room a strong smell of musty hit our noses. Like there's a water leak somewhere. First stop was the bathroom because we just did a 4 hour road trip. There's hair on the towels... ok kinda gross. Base boards are dusty, kids toy from some other guest left under the bed along with a thick layer of dust , garbage paper towel roll by the couch, couch cushions put back sideways making the couch look worn down by the way the cushions were bubbled up and squished down. Fire place didn't work so we called maintenance out and they got it fixed. It doesn't put off heat FYI... I guess it's only good for ambiance. There is no heater or air conditioning which I already expected from other reviews but I thought the fire place would put heat off somewhat but it barely does anything. Night two: We wanted to sit out side in the common area with the fire pit going to watch the sunset but it didn't work. After watching the sunset somewhere else we got back to our room, had some adult fun time and at 9:00 pm maintenance walked in our suite. My husband and I had literally just finished hanky panky and were in bed naked. Guy claimed to have knocked twice but we didn't hear anything and the bedroom door was open. Glad our sexy shenanigans didn't end up in the living room area! I was so creeped out! I called the office to verify that it was actually maintenance that walked in on us. The front desk said yes they had the fire place work order from yesterday and thought it never got fixed. ... ok first: knock louder, second: maybe call? It was 9 o'clock at night dude. Check out morning: our fridge was turned down so low the soda we had in there exploded. Check your fridge temps if you rent here and plan on putting cans in there. Over all I wouldn't recommend this place. I guess I just expected more. We paid almost $600 for 2 nights and I guess I thought it wouldn't feel so worn down. Our suite could definitely use a deep clean and the hotel staff need to fine tune the way they do things. It was absolutely not ok to walk in on us at 9:00pm. Use some common sense. read more

Very clean and roomy with large bathroom. Queen bed was comfortable and bedding was lightweight soft and kept us warm. Electric fireplace in the room warms the room up pretty quick adding ambiance after coming back from a strut along the moonstone boardwalk while gazing at the ocean and easy access to the sandy beaches as you search for rocks and driftwood. Close proximity to restaurants within walking distance so you can enjoy your wine and make it safely to your lodging. read more

As someone who's loved and traveled to Cambria for decades, the hubs and I decided to make an anniversary trip to visit an old favorite on Moonstone Beach, The FogCatcher Inn. Cambria, the Pacific Ocean, the quaint downtown and good food. What's not to like? I frame this review by saying two things - I'm a native Californian and I understand the weather this winter and spring has been inhospitable. Winds remain strong and gusty, and the rain saturated ground is muddy with evidence of slides everywhere. The combo means all trees are suspect. Large broken limbs hang from standing trees, dead drought-stricken trees dot the landscape, and horizontal living trees, root balls exposed having been torn from the ground by wind, are not an infrequent sight. It will take a long time and many workers to clean this up. Unfortunately, this is the post-Covid era when "many workers" is a rarity. With this as context and a compassionate visitor in me, the FogCatcher Inn is an example of neglect. Neither Covid nor recent storms caused our experience. The storms did cause 29 of their 60 rooms to be uninhabitable, and apparently the lack of labor seen throughout CA is contributing to delays in fixing the damage. But we were in the "best room in the house," as pronounced by the desk clerk upon our check-in. There we found long sun rotted blinds that would neither open or close. The position they were in when they broke is the one they were in when we arrived. Blinds that won't open in a premium ocean view room kind of defeat the purpose. The mirror in the washroom had integrated lights but the fluorescent bulbs didn't all work. Apparently this was known to staff who told us they were sorry but removing the mirror to replace the bulbs "takes three people we don't have to do the job". They have one handyman who was ill with food poisoning. I know how to brush my teeth in the dark. It's less easy to remove contact lenses and apply make-up. At no time was the room tended. No bed making (which was ok with us) and no offer of fresh towels. The pump bottle of lotion next to the sink was empty. No replenishment of coffee though they boast "gourmet coffee and coffee makers in every room". The worst was the cute little fabric, drawstring bag for the spare roll of toilet tissue. When we retrieved it there was some biohazardous material on the bag. Just plain gross. With the exception of that last violation which occurred at the end of our visit, we brought issues to the desk where someone already quite familiar with all of them listened nicely and gave us a bottle of wine and $50 credit. She tried. But she couldn't address any of it. Nothing was made different or better, and the fact that the corporation sent us an email prior to arrival offering to upgrade us to this "best room in the house" for the low, low price of an additional $77/night, knowing the problems therein, was the biggest violation. Actually unconscionable IMO. Other properties on Moonstone are owned by the same corporation including The Cow Tipper (a restaurant) which offers breakfast delivery to your door - except their espresso machine was broken when my husband popped in for coffee this morning. California's central coast is one of its crown jewels says this native. But we will not be visiting any of the properties owned by this corporation again. I will jettison this last experience from memory. Instead I'll hang onto the FogCatcher Inn of old - a quaint, cosy, welcoming place we saved for special occasions. read more

We only stayed one night here. Wish it had been 3-4! Location is superb, right across the street to a boardwalk and then the beach down the hill. Hotel is very dog friendly, but the beach is not. Only service dogs allowed. The grounds of the hotel are lovely, and there are multiple areas to sit and enjoy the view. Our 2 rooms were clean with lovely clean crisp linen on the very comfortable bed. The furniture is nice but showing signs of wear and use. Showers were nice with low water pressure. Front desk was super friendly, but not always there. Overall, I give it 5 stars because although not perfect, it is a very fun, well equipped and relaxing place to be. If you are picky, picky, picky about the small stuff, then this might not be a place for you. read more

We stayed at FogCatcher Inn on September 7-8, and it was subpar at best. There were no screens on the front windows. Since we couldn't open the windows to let some air in the room was stuffy. The property doesn't have a ceiling fan or air conditioning which didn't help the situation. We had to ask for a table fan which was dirty. The $75.00 pet fee is outrageous. On our way up to Carmel on September 4, we stayed at the Sea Otter Inn. Their pet fee is $25.00. In Carmel-by-the-Sea, we stayed at the Cypress Inn. Their pet fee is $30.00 Both properties also offer a complimentary breakfast to their guests. We didn't stay at the Sea Otter Inn on our way back to Los Angeles because they didn't have a King room available. I've sent an email as well as a message to the property but no one has responded, which is not good customer service. For anyone traveling with a pet to Cambria, do yourself a favor and stay at the Sea Otter Inn or any other hotel that doesn't have an exorbitant pet fee. This isn't the Ritz Carlton. read more

Zero amenities...the proximity to ocean is all they have. Probably a 2 out of 10 and only because the bed was comfortable. Not accommodating...request for two glasses...NO! This operation really needs customer service training...,not to mention Some upgrades..wow!!! read more

No Stars.........Unfortunately, Mr. Taylor K's reply is very misleading as The Fog Catcher Inn has failed to inform me that they reversed their decision to honor my request for a refund and has made no effort to contact me or inform me that an OTA refund was forthcoming as of 02/28/2025. I have not received any more communications from them about this issue. read more
