    Dress from the shop!
    Cass F.

We stopped in just to look and walked out with the most amazing dress. The boyfriend is taking me back this week to let me pick something for my birthday. So excited! Everything is so gorgeous it's hard to choose!

The staff is as eclectic and wonderful as the amazing vintage merchandise. Doris has created a dreamscape of carefully curated and meticulously cared for vintage fashion. It's like going to a museum, but you can buy the art!

    Loris Azzaro Cardigan

I would like to share my experience with this wonderful shop. I had been watching content on their Youtube channel for quite some time, including snippets from the television series L.A. Frock Stars and I admired all of the beautiful items that were featured. One day, I saw a gold lurex cardigan adorned with gold chains titled, "60s,70s and 80s Statement Pieces"on their Youtube channel. The cardigan was featured and modeled by a very pretty lady named Vickie. The cardigan was by a designer named Loris Azzaro. Vickie was standing in for Doris, the owner of The Way We Wore, who was recovering from a serious health issue. Vickie brought in items from her personal collection to give ideas on what might look nice with not only this cardigan, but other items being featured in that particular broadcast. She mentioned that Tina Turner wore Loris Azzaro back in the 60s. I grew up watching the legendary Tina Turner and even as a young girl, was mesmerized by her energy. I always wanted this top through the years, but I could never figure out what her outfit was made of that had all this movement and shimmer. At the end of the video, Vickie presented this cardigan in all of its glory and I was like, "WOW!!!" So, I immediately went to the website, found the cardigan and contacted Doris with my interest. Doris was highly responsive. We conferred, and the first thing she did was get my measurements in order to ensure proper fit. I was so very disappointed when the top I saw in the video would not fit me. But, to her credit, Doris was not willing to just make a sale at any cost, including if the item does not actually flatter the client. But, it turned out that Doris had 3 variations of this cardigan in the shop. I was able to fit the other cardigan that had the snap closure and I immediately bought it! There was another one that was a pullover style that was also too small for me, but I knew it would fit my Mom. I put that one on layaway and was able to pay it off in time for her birthday. Both of the cardigans were sent accompanied by a hand-written note from Doris and they are in great condition, clean, ready to wear and enjoy. A word here about cost and value. Like anyone doing research, I have read a few comments that the items sold at The Way We Wore are overly costly. My purchases were not inexpensive, but I would simply offer a few things for a prospective client to ponder. 1)The shop has items at many different price points. There really is something for everyone. 2) Doris Raymond offers two different purchasing options if you just need to spread payments out--Klarna and her own in-house layaway plan. On top of that, she has also entertained serious offers. 3) I know for a fact that the items I purchased from this shop have held their value and will continue to hold their value. I am aware of a recent auction where the same style cardigan I bought from The Way We Wore sold for more than what I paid, and these cardigans are from the 60s! So, not only did I buy two very high quality items, but the value increased. This kind of return on investment is significant and bodes well for the other beautiful vintage items sold here. The Way We Wore is a wonderful oasis of meticulously curated fine goods, and where anyone can go to receive outstanding client service. There was a time when it was the norm that you would feel really confident about your purchase, knowing that it was high quality and would last--maybe become an heirloom piece to pass down. A time when the owner or salesperson was so highly educated about what they were selling that they knew the products through and through. They learned your name, your likes/dislikes and would give you, as the client, a wonderful shopping experience. It is wonderful to know that such an experience can still be had in The Way We Wore and I must say that I appreciated the one-on one service of yesteryear that I received from Doris. There are many worldly challenges going on right now (health/climate/crime) that are making some people unusually anxious and others downright cruel, and many small businesses are suffering. Remember that we want our small businesses/woman-owned small businesses to still be around after the pandemic! I highly recommend, and will continue to patronize The Way We Wore.

This place is amazing. I don't even know where to start. The store is organized by era and casual, cocktail, or dressy. They have the most selection of awesome dresses and accessories. Pricey for sure, but you're paying for items you will probably never find anywhere else!

la la love this place!! :)

Their prices are quite reasonable. Many items are up to 80% off what you would pay for great clothes and bags. They also have some nice art now and again it is all fairly priced. This is not a Salvation Army type store, yes, all items are used, but all are designer or something you may have seen in a store. They do not have a huge vintage section and that is fine. It has just really nice things that I would end up paying a lot more for new. The service is great. The staff is nice and knows what is in the store and where. They used to have separate stores for men and women, not sure if that's still a thing but it made it easier to browse depending on your style preferences. I've sold here plenty of times, and the commission is fair for what you're getting. The shopping experience is smooth, and the store offers a great mix of authentic, pre owned designer pieces. Most recently, I received an Officine Générale turtleneck that had been described as being in "Very Good" condition. It arrived with significant pilling, appeared dirty, and smelled strongly of cheap women's perfume. It was not remotely consistent with the condition advertised. What happened next was even more troubling. I contacted Customer Service expecting a straightforward acknowledgment and resolution. Instead, I received responses that repeatedly failed to address the actual issue being raised. The conversation devolved into a discussion about whether I would accept compensation based on the purchase price of the item, despite my making it abundantly clear that I had no interest in keeping it at any price. The concern was misrepresentation and quality control. I cannot recall another customer service interaction that felt this tone deaf. As someone who has worked with major organizations, including Apple and Spectrum, on matters involving customer experience and communication, I can honestly say I will use this exchange as an example of exactly what not to do. Customers understand that mistakes happen. What they do not forget is being ignored when they clearly articulate a legitimate concern. My concerns extend beyond this single transaction. As a consignor, I have increasingly questioned whether the standards applied to sellers are consistent or fair. A pair of Tod's loafers yielded a net payout to me of just $9.72. A brand-new pair of Theory shoes, still in the box with tags and obviously never worn, was graded only as "Good" condition and generated a payout of $7.00. The RealReal positions itself as a luxury marketplace. Luxury is not just a logo or a price point. It is attention to detail, thoughtful service, accurate representation, and respect for both buyers and consignors. Unfortunately, this experience failed on every one of those measures. Mistakes happen. Indifference should not.

Does Flirt Clothing live up to its name?…read more If you're expecting an inanimate building to ask your name and number, then no. And if you're expecting the employees to ask you "come here often?" before motioning the barkeep to bring you another of whatever you're having, then still, NO. Or maybe yes. Just not with me. Pffft. The clothes are definitely fun and flirty, though -- if you wear them. Flirt is the typical Melrose kitsch store -- one-offs and private labels abound. Not too many jean choices (mostly charcoal gray), and not that many T-shirts, but the ones they have will have you going gaga, lady. What's a boy like me doing reviewing an exclusively girl's store? Well, I have no intention of wearing that off-the-shoulder blouse or sundress (hmm... with the right belt and handbag, I -- nevermind), but the store is definitely a pleasant place, even if you're just waiting on girls to finish trying things on. You can stand there awkwardly listening to the early 1990s era boombox that's pumping out KISS FM all day (Lil Wayne seems determined to make me his fan), or check yourself out in the mirrors on the wall. "Oh you are quite the looker, aren't you..." Anyway, speaking of incredible, psychologically unhealthy narcissism (or not, whatever), the pink-curtained dressing rooms have matching pink folding chairs -- everything in the store has either touches or tons of pink, which sounds like a Hello Kitty nightmare but is actually kind of cute in a flamingo-pecked-my-eyes-out way. When you try things on, it's with a soft background of Pepto Bismo, but it does make that hotgasmic pair of koolats stand out in palatial, plaid glory. Sweet Heavens, but you're beautiful. Now close your curtain -- that weird tattoo guy with his tattooier girlfriend can see your thong. Hey, the stuff you're trying on is on sale, too! At least a fourth of the store is half off, so you'll have more money left over to blow on things like shoes, handbags, and rent. Service is fast, friendly, and helpful -- they'll make useful suggestions that aren't lame attempts at plus-selling. Flirt Clothing does lose one star because they forgot to remove a security tag on a $240 hobo bag. Now I'm going to have to come back tomorrow -- with receipt -- to have them remove it because SOMEBODY'S too busy (*cough* gainfully employed) to do so herself. I'm going to play like it's mine. It looks cuter on me anyway :-)

This is a nice store that carries clothing and accessories that you probably won't find at most…read moreother clothing shops on Melrose Ave. Most of the stores on this street tend to carry the same type of clothing. I bought a beautiful purple scarf with brown leopard spots on it the other day. The material was like that of a soft sweater. It was only $19.00. I could've gotten a better deal on it if I bargained with the lady there, but I didn't since the price was already low. Also, she was nice and showed me how to tie it since I wasn't sure how to wear it. I always leave scarves untied up until now. She showed me and it was easier than it I thought it would be. I really appreciated that. Also, it was great that she could actually break a $100.00 bill. Some places can't. If you're not familair with the area, you might not know that due to lots of competition, sometimes the shop owner or manager will give you a discount on clothes and other items if you ask them for one. Sometimes they are so eager to sell, they just offer you a good deal. I didn't want to appear cheap though, so I didn't bother asking. It was also nice that she didn't bug me or follow me around like a lot of the shop employees tend to do sometimes. This is a great place and I'll come back here next time I'm in LA.
